With the high expense of electricity, it can be costly to turn on a full-size oven for quick toasting and browning tasks. This toaster oven is a simple answer to keep electrical costs down. Use it for toasting bagels that don't always fit in a conventional toaster, or for melting cheese over a favorite sandwich. It can even be used for browning the tops of individual meringue tarts. Standing 13 inches high by 9 inches wide by 8-1/2 inches deep (including the handles), it obviously doesn't require too much counter space. It lets you select the specific elements--there are three: bottom, middle, and top--needed for a particular task. The oven also comes with a 15-minute safety auto shut-off, which is helpful for the busy and easily distracted teenager who maybe preparing their own after school snack. As a precaution, the oven should always be unplugged from the power source when it's not in use or when it's being cleaned. --Teresa Simanton ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good at what it does
You won't be turning out layer cakes or creme puffs from this little appliance, but it's very good for toasting the business sides of a cut bagel or a couple of pieces of garlic bread. Team up with a microwave for interior cooking and use this toaster for browning, and you can save time on a lot of different dishes. Unfortunately, the space constraints of this model limit you to rather small scale executions.

Cleanup is no better and no worse than any other toaster oven, with the exception of the sealed quartz elements which are much easier to wipe clean than the usual exposed tungsten elements.

Considering its low price and its small footprint on the counter, this toaster oven makes a versatile and economical contribution to a small apartment kitchen or a second kitchen used for entertaining.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Toaster, Recommended
1) I love the design of the toaster. It's vertical with two trays on top of each other. This helps save counter space for those with limited room. And personally I like the unique design. 2) It heats up fast and you have the option of heating up just the top rack, just the bottom, or both at the same time. 3) It's reliable and seems well built. 4) Price-wise it's a great value.

Update Feb 13, 2003: I've had the toaster for around 3 months and the oven is in good working order. My only complaint is with the "cookie sheet" pans that go in the oven---they flake easily. Like the surface of a non-stick cooking pan that's gotten old, these pans started flaking shortly after. One of them I left in the sink and my guess is that the continued exposure to water caused it. Whatever the reason, they're pretty cheap pans. Overall, I'm still happy with the way the oven performs.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a toaster, not a toaster oven
Save your money on this one. All it does is toast. It does not have any other temperature, not really very good at reheating. buy a regular toaster instead of this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't expect 4 slices
I bought this toaster oven with the intent of toasting four slices of bread. It won't happen. It is very good at melting cheese on thick sandwich halves though, as long as the bread slices are not too long, like on a round sourdough loaf, or an Italian bread pizza. But hey, it can't do everything.
It is hard to clean the interior because the racks cannot be removed the whole way for cleaning. They do slide in and out with the door opening/closing, which make it nice to retreive your bread without burning hands on the elements inside. It doesn't take up much counter space which is good, however note the height because if you intend to put it under a low cabinet there may be a problem. The outside gets very hot. The unit doesn't have to be slid back and forth across the counter like most toasters either. The pull open front glass door makes it easy to see what's going on in there.
It should also have a control that allow just the middle and bottom elements for toasting just one slice. All three elements seem like too much for one slice. You can use just the middle element for bagels, just the top or just the bottom elements, or all three.
All in all I like it for what is intended. If it was 1 inch wider it would accomodate 4 slices of bread, and then it would be perfect.

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing
I bought this toaster oven because it seemed so practical in design, and I do like the fact that it takes up very little counter space. However, it will not toast 4 normal slices of bread at one time without overlapping the pieces, which I could not anticipate from the picture, and it toasts darker on the bottom of the bread slice than on the top. Also, there is a learning curve for setting the dial to achieve the amount of toasting you want, and the toaster does not turn off automatically when the door is opened. If you over-estimate the toasting time you want and have to pull the bread out before the oven is finished working, you risk burning yourself on the still hot elements. ... Read more

With its unique top and bottom infrared heating elements, this 1200-watt electric roaster cooks quickly and thoroughly, without the need to turn food over. Because the oil and juice drips away from the food that is cooking, the end result is crispier foods, which are not soggy from sitting in juices during the roasting process. Its built-in ceramic filter virtually eliminates odors and smoke while grilling fish, vegetables, and other food items. The unit’s convenient, built-in, 20-minute timer rings when cooking time is complete, while an auto-shutoff safety system prevents overheating. Cool-to-touch handles and base make the unit safe to pick up, and for quick, easy cleaning, the lid, grill, and drip pan are removable. For instructions on how to get started, a multi-language manual is included. --Catie Unger ... Read more
