This waffle baker really works. Pour in the batter, close the lid, and flip once--either sideways or front to back--and in five minutes two thick and fluffy Belgian waffles are ready. It's amazing. The flipping creates an air pocket in the center of the waffle that's pure chemistry. There are also several features that make using this device almost foolproof (though there is a slight learning curve). A well-written recipe book is included that provides some delicious waffle recipes and great baking tips, even if you're using a prepackaged mix. The indicator light is also great: it turns green when the baker is ready for the batter, eliminating guesswork. And the nonstick surface is super--when your waffles are done (five minutes is a good benchmark, and the lid should lift easily), they peel off the grid smoothly. Cleanup is easy, too. A covered hinge and a batter channel prevent messy spills, and the nonstick surface wipes clean with a sponge or a soft brush. Best of all, the waffle baker stores upright. All in all, this is a dandy addition to any kitchen. --C. Whitney-Ward ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars really very good
Only have used it a few times, but its easy and almost foolproof.
I'm only using Aunt Jemima or Hungry Jack pancake mix for now. Tried adding 2 small bananas to the basic recipe. For that, I needed a spray-on oil, like Pam. Little booklet does warn you that recipes with extra sugar may require spraying.

Wish it had a timer, like some more expensive ones. But maybe a timer wouldnt really help. Depending on what's in the waffle, it might take a different amount of time to cook. With bananas thrown into the most basic Aunt Jemima mix, I found the waffles required a bit more time. But u cant wait til the steaming stops before removing these banana waffles. I guess the bananas will keep on steaming , long after waffle is already quite golden. Even tho I've experimented a bit, there's nothing about this machine that's gonna fool u much. It stores upright, everything is basically good.

The booklet does tell u to start with simple stuff and experiment later. If u have a huge family, maybe u would be better off with an iron that makes 4 at a time. Anyway, overall, I'm quite pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Waffles!!!!!!!!!!!
I was a bit apprehensive about buying a waffle iron that suggested "flipping" the unit for the fluffiest waffles. Actually, the process is very simple and the finished product is great. Waffles are evenly cooked and are a perfect golden brown. Indicator lights seem to work very well. The non-stick finish makes clean up a breeze. I would highly reccommend this appliance to anyone looking for a waffle maker which allows them to make wonderful restaurant quality Belgian waffles at home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for a crowd!
I used this for the first time this weekend...I used belgian waffle mix and they turned out great! No sticking, no guesswork, and my guests liked the ability to eat the "stix" rather than a huge waffle if they just wanted a little bit more. It cooked consistently and the waffles were very easy to remove. This one is a keeper! Even a guest was interested in getting one for her own home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Waffles, Great Price
We have had this for about 6 weeks now, and used it 4 times. Each time it has worked quite well. The recipe book is very helpful, both with new kinds to try and general hints for making the waffles. We make double and triple batches so we have plenty for quick breakfasts out of the freezer during the week. As has been previously posted, make sure you understand this does not have a timer or indicator light for waffle completion, so you will have to time it yourself, and watch for the cessation of steam as an indicator of "doneness". It is not hard to use, and turns out a light, fluffy waffle every time you follow the directions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Waffles, Easy to Use
The signifigant other has deligated all waffle making to me since I got this Flip 'n Fluff baker. I have not had a problem with sticking as I have used a very light application of Canola Oil spray from the start. On occasion the waffle will fall off the top plate before the lid is all the way open. Otherwise a slight nudge with a plastic fork works.

I have been using Bisquick & the waffle recipe from the box with minor modification. I substitute melted butter for the oil & add one teaspoon of Vanilla Extract for flavor enhancement. The box recipe is for 12 standard waffles, I got 8 belgian with a little batter left over. Now I tripple the recipe & store the extra batter in the refrigerator. Allow the batter to come to room temprature before use. Ihop & Denneys eat your heart out.

As the stove is not being used, I put a small amount of water on the plates, stack them, place in the microwave for 50 seconds & have hot plate centers with cool rims for handeling, dump the water in sink, wipe & thay are ready for the waffles. ... Read more

For those occasions when every family member clamors at once for aBelgian waffle, this inexpensive waffle iron meets the challenge, turning outfour at once. Then it quickly heats up again (a green light shines when theperfect temperature is achieved) and makes four more, each 4 by 4-1/2 inches andblessed with the deep indentations that hold so much butter, syrup, and fruit.Because the grids are nonstick and the exterior is hard plastic, the waffle ironcleans easily. It also stands up for compact storage until the following weekendarrives and waffle appetites again reach their peak. The 1,200-watt waffle ironmeasures 11-1/2 inches wide, 5 inches high, and 12-3/4 inches deep. It carries atwo-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Heats unevenly
The waffles are not a good as the ones from the commercial waffle maker found at Sunday buffets. The bottom of the pockets would be crisp and the tops a little soggy. It does heat up quickly. We later purchased the Villaware waffle maker and are happier with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive waffle iron works well
I purchased this waffle iron recently at Target for less than $$$$. I was willing to buy a more expensive unit, but reviews of the expensive units weren't that great, so I decided to give a budget-priced unit with high wattage a try. I've been very surprised with how well it works. The 1200 watt unit heats up within a few minutes (a green light turns on to indicate when it's ready). I give the grids a very light spray of Pam before filling with batter each time and never have any sticking. Each waffle takes 5 minutes to bake and they come out crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It doesn't have an indicator to tell you when the waffle is done, but I just set my timer for 5 minutes, no problem. Between waffles, it heats up instantly, no waiting to pour another waffle in. I downgraded it slightly because the design makes the waffles flatter (not as tall) as they are in restaurants. The unit is very sleek and pretty as well. ... Read more

If you're heading off to college, renting a small studio space, remodeling a kitchen, or just love waffles or grilled cheese, the Meal Maker Belgian waffle baker and sandwich griddle is a great stand-in for a full stovetop. This sandwich toaster not only makes fancy panini-style grilled sandwiches in minutes, but also batter-based items, such as pancakes or omelets, as well as turnovers or French toast. What's more, by switching the grill plates, the appliance becomes a waffle iron, providing even more meal options. The Meal Maker's indicator light turns off when it's ready to cook, and, once a sandwich or batter has been put onto the plates, the cover latches shut to keep batter in place or sandwich edges crimped. The nonstick grilling surfaces wipe clean with a damp sponge or paper towel, or they can be removed and washed by hand or in the dishwasher. The whole appliance can be stored either horizontally or vertically, depending on space limitations. --Julija Gelazis ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great little appliance
I have two of the Hamilton Beach 26290 Waffle Baker/Sandwich Griddles and use one of them very frequently. It is perfect for one or two people but when the kids are here (they love grilled cheese sandwiches) it is not really big enough. I have no trouble making two sandwiches at a time on each unit and the cleanup is a breeze. The concept of two appliances in one is great for it saves storage space.

2-0 out of 5 stars not good enough
I would have preferred a waffle/toaster that could also grill meat. It takes too long to heat up and cool down to facilitate cleaning.
The cost is a little high for what you get and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I recall having a toaster similar to that in my youth and it recieved a lot of use, this item won't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Waffles every morning!
The way it cooks, ease of use, and quick cleanup is the reason I give this Hamilton Beach Waffle Maker a five star rating. I've been having waffles for breakfast every morning since the first time I decided to give it a try. I use it for waffles and grilled cheese sandwiches, and I am very pleased with the results. Cleanup is a breeze because the plates pop out for washing. It is especially ideal for a single person on the go.

4-0 out of 5 stars I would recommend this appliance.
I received this waffle iron/sandwich grill for Christmas. While the grill side could be bigger, I can make two full-size sandwiches on it. Maybe we use smaller loaves of bread that other people, but it works for us. It does not, however, have enough grill space to fry pancakes on it. Still, since it is just my husband and I, this appliance is a nice size. It doesn't take up a lot of storage space, and the cord is attached so we don't have to look for it each time. All you do is plug it in and wait for the light to indicate when it's hot enough. The waffle and grill inserts remove easily and wash up well in the dishwasher. If you are cooking for one or two people, this will fit the bill - and it's easy to clean. Go for it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Does 2 jobs, but only half as well
I was thrilled to find the waffle maker/sandwich grill I remember from childhood -- but what a disappointment to discover that the grilling space is barely large enough for 1/2 a normal sized sandwich. The sandwich area is rectangular, measuring roughly 4" x 8". Even a slice of basic Wonder Bread is taller than 4", so unless you cut off the crusts or grill your sandwich already sliced in half this appliance will NOT make an efficient sandwich -- even for one person. My search continues.... it appears Black & Decker may have something that is larger... ... Read more

Homemade waffles do not have to be reserved for the weekends with this quick and easy Belgian waffle iron. The compact, circular waffle baker makes one perfectly round, light and fluffy, four-quartered waffle. The appliance heats up upon being plugged in and a red indicator light comes on while the waffle baker is heating up. The light goes out when the Belgian waffle grid has heated to the right cooking temperature; you can proceed to pour your batter onto the grid and lower the cover. The waffle baker has a sliding temperature control switch with five settings so you can cook waffles to your desired level of doneness. The highest setting cooks crunchy, brown waffles while low to medium settings produce softer and more golden-toned waffles. The lowest setting keeps a formerly cooked waffle warm until you are ready to sit down and enjoy it. Waffles generally are done in about five minutes when using packaged mix and recipes from scratch only take a few minutes longer. The appliance has nonstick grids so no butter or oil is required for cooking and cleanup is a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth. The waffle baker has a plastic handle on its cover that remains cool during cooking. However, the chrome lid gets very hot--adults should exercise caution when prepping other food near the plugged-in appliance and children should not be able to reach it at all. Hamilton Beach covers this waffle iron under a two-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Love the thought of hot, steaming waffles, but as a diabetic not much hope.....please offer items which are not food related. Otherwise, I won't be able to be able to partake of your wonderful offers. thanks otherwise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased
I have used my Waffle Iron three times now and love it. The waffles are cooked perfectly, come out with ease and best of all, they are voted by my family as the best waffles we have ever eaten. The waffle iron is so easy to clean, use and store. It is always nice to buy somthing, and be happier then you expect when you use it. When I make waffles I always make a couple extras and put them in a ziplock, and throw them in the freezer. My son puts them in the toaster oven, for a before school breakfast

Making a perfect waffle should not require Betty Crocker, or Martha Stewart. This product is designed with simplicity and practicallity in mind. Even though it has the good looks of a fashion model, it is as easy to use as the girl that you wouldn't take home to Mom. If you want flawless waffels at an economical price, and without much thought, this is the one for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars This waffle iron was disappointing.
I had high hopes when I purchased this waffle iron. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. The iron made an annoying rattling sound every time I closed it. I also had great difficulty cleaning it (though I do have arthritis). Finally, the waffles had an unusual odor. I will not use this product again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Good Looks and Peformance to Match
If you have the counter space, you'll probably want to leave the Hamilton Beach Belgian Variable Heat Waffle Baker on display where it can be seen all the time, even if you use it only once a week. If not, the iron tips upright for space-saving storage.

Either way, you get a waffle baker that turns out consistently tall, consistently baked waffles with 5 minutes of cooking time. The variable darkness control lets you lighten or darken the waffle to your family's preference, from light blond to dark mahogany, with the outer crispness following the darkness. It's also handy for compensating for different batter recipes without having to calculate a new baking time.

The circular grid bakes a plate-filling 4-section waffle that can be enjoyed whole by hearty eaters or broken into quarters for those with smaller appetites, as the base of a waffle sundae dessert or even as the foundation for an out-of-the-ordinary strawberry shortcake. Serve 'em in half to leave room on the plate when you're having oven-fried chicken and waffles for dinner (try it some time!).

The lower grid is surrounded by a black plastic outer case that stays relatively cool, so overflows won't bake onto the outside of the iron. The upper grid, however, is sheathed in chromed stainless steel that gets very hot to the touch, so be sure to exercise due caution when young children are present. On the plus side, a squirt of Windex and a wipe with a paper towel (when the iron is cool and unplugged, of course) are all that's needed to make the outside case shine like new. Go ahead and use Windex on the plastic parts, too. Just remember to never, never, never, EVER wash the grids. The nonstick surface makes the Hamilton Beach Belgian Variable Heat Waffle Baker perform like a family heirloom that's been seasoned with generations of use, even when it's brand new, but washing the grids will only mean having to re-season the grids when it's not necessary. Just allow it to cool, brush out any crumbs and wrap the cord around the storage reel in the bottom of the iron.

One minor design aspect that only poses a problem if your waffle batter tends to be too squirty is the channel in which the darkness control rides. A cascade of batter over the front will get inside the channel. Once the iron is cool, you can easily remove 2 screws on the underside of the iron and take off the bottom cover of the control channel to clean out the gunk. Adequate practice in pouring the right amount of batter will overcome this.

Aside from that, the Hamilton Beach Belgian Variable Heat Waffle Baker comes close in performance to a professional Belgian waffler. And it looks great, too. ... Read more
