Amazon.com Review

As light and compact as the original, this LED version of the Itty Bitty book light rules out the possibility of a bulb burning out during the crucial last chapter. Its two tiny heat-free LED bulbs provide adequate reading light for a grand total of 100,000 hours--enough to keep you reading through decades of use. Clipped to your paperback or hardcover book, the light shines directly on the pages instead of on your sleeping partner. In addition, it carries its power source inside--four AAA batteries (not included) keep it going for up to 14 continuous hours. You can also purchase an AC adapter separately for steady, more economical use.

Designed for easy portability and minimal weight, the light collapses to 4-1/2 inches, extends to 7 inches, and tips the scales at a mere 2-1/2 ounces. The bulbs automatically kick on when you extend the telescoping arm, and the lamp hood revolves for perfect placement. A sturdy carrying case is included for storage and travel. --Emily Bedard ... The Volume 2 Itty Bitty book light by Zelco is a welcome refinement of agreat original. By scaling back the footprint of the clip, the size of the light's hood, andthe heft of the materials, Zelco has made this lamp sleek, compact, and practicallyweightless. The bulb, mounted on anadjustable telescoping arm, switches on automatically when the arm is extended and offwhen it retracts. Clipped securely onto the cover of your book, it shines only on thepages, not on your sleeping bedfellow. 5-0 out of 5 stars Light Sleeper Rejoices!!
This item is a true life-saver! As an extremely light sleeper, I (of course) have the luck to have an avid nighttime reader for a mate. The bedside light used to drive me CRAZY, but this product has made life easier for both of us. Money well-spent, without a doubt!

2-0 out of 5 stars Pathetic choice of light bulb
Well, when it arrived from Amazon.com, it didn't work. I didn't have time to deal with it, and so it wasn't until 31 days after it arrived, that I tracked down the problem: the bulb. That's too late for Amazon to have any interest in helping out, so, I was on my own.

Next step was to try to get a replacement bulb. Seems that the only ones on the face of the earth to sell this bulb is . . . Zelco. Don't bother trying to buy it anywhere else, you won't find it (even stores which specialize in selling light bulbs).

Now you might ask yourself, why did Zelco choose a bulb which they, and only they, sell? Simple: it's a built-in monopoly. They control the price, and the profits. Never mind if that makes it inconvenient and expensive for the consumer. What's more, I doubt that the life of these bulbs is very long at all (maybe 15 hrs.?). Quite a cash cow for Zelco.

I recommend the Phorm Light Voyager Book Light instead. It produces good reading light, and the fluorescent light bulb is rated at 10,000 hours. It also folds up into a nice little 'package', and is even a little cheaper than the Zelco.

2-0 out of 5 stars Itty Bitty lasts itty bitty time
I have had both the original and the volume 2 book light. Both lights developed shorts in the wiring that cause the light to flicker --- very annoying. The light will not stay upright and flops down to the page. Have the same problem with both lights. I am looking for a new book light without an arm to flop or wires to bend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke right away
It would have been nice to use this, but it broke before my husband even got a chance to try it out. The light just didn't come on after few openings more than occasional flashes, then that ended too. It has a contact problem. Hubby said he'll try to fix it, but now a year later, it is still in a box waiting to be fixed...couldn't return, we tossed the original packaging, now it's too late anyway. We'll buy a new one at some point.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great light, poor reliability
This is a wonderful light. The light quality is good. It is lightweight and clips easily to books and magazines. However, mine broke after 2 years of infrequent use. Loose wiring connections make the light flicker and I can't fix it. Also, the arm keeps falling down, which is pretty annoying, and I can't fix that either. It seems to be designed to be thrown away after moderate use. ... Read more

For the book lover who thought they had everything, this may be the perfect gift: a dictionary that draws its 130,000 definitions from the American Heritage Dictionary (4th edition) and is small enough to serve as a bookmark. The Zelco Bookmark Dictionary II’s ultra-thin, flexible keyboard pad clips onto the page of a book for easy reference. Other functions include a measurement converter and a calculator. Date and time are kept with an internal clock.

The keyboard features slightly raised touch buttons, with additional, alternate key functions that operate during calculator mode. The LED screen features relatively lar.ge 1/2-inch-tall figures for easy reading. When the dictionary is clipped to a page as a bookmark, the screen sits above the book.

Use a small Phillips-head screwdriver to change the CR2032 3-volt lithium battery. The Zelco Bookmark Dictionary II measures 3-3/4 by 5-3/4 inches, while the display screen at the top is 3-3/4 by 1-1/2 by 1/2 inches. Zelco offers a one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and labor that occur during normal use. --Garland Withers ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Looks like a waste of money
after reading 2 negatives on this contraption, I don't see the need to waste my money on a electronic toy that does not work.

I would rather buy a CD and load it into my computer from an American company any time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent word tool
This is a very useful device for the avid reader! It is thin, easy to use, and by far the most convenient dictionary around. It fits on a book jacket and is ready for any new words that pop up while reading. Range of words is extensive - only a few words looked up that not in it so far in use for over a two months.

It has been well received by my teenagers - saves having to jump up to fetch yet a another book. Particularly useful in travel situations like an airplane or a car trip where toting around a standard dictionary is impractical.

Only draw back (and reason for a one-star deduction) is that it requires reflected light, which makes the text a tad it difficult to read when in low light situations. Could be enhanced with a small backlight feature - maybe in version III.

Definitely recommended. No problem with functionality mentioned by another reviewer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended!
I received this bookmark dictionary 2 weeks ago, and it's already broken! The upper left portion of the key pad has stopped working, and the buttons that actually do work need to be pressed hard in order for the letter to register! I definitely DO NOT recommend this item. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money.
I have had this book light for about 4 years. I use it almost every night for 1 - 3 hours. I have replaced the bulbs about 4 times (replacements were bought at Wal-Mart for about $2.00). The only issue I had with this product was with the AC adapter. I went to turn on the light one night and it wouldn't light. I checked the plug and found that the plastic had melted a little where the plug and the power cord meet. This was most likely my fault for leaving the light plugged in 24 hours a day, so I don't fault the product. But since then I have been using the battery pack, and I get about 2 months of operation from the 4 C batteries. I have taken this light on vacation, I have dropped the light and the battery pack, I have even stepped on it. The light has never broken. I would recommend this to any one looking for a book light.

5-0 out of 5 stars In Love with an itty bitty Book Light
If you love to read in bed, then you know how difficult it is to read when you not facing away from the lamp/light. I'm a serious reader and I want to see the page when I'm in bed. I had purchased other book lights with batteries attached to the actual light unit and found that you could really only use them if you were sitting up in bed. I like to be snuggled down in the covers reading to my heart's content.

This has been the best solution I've found. So far after a few months, I've been very impressed with this light. You can also read in bed without disturbing your bed partner. When you turn off your bedside lamp, you can still see what you are reading.

The light clips to any back of a hard or soft cover book. It is super lightweight. The cord is also really long and you have the option of an outlet or battery pack which uses four "C" cell batteries. Of all the book lights out there, this one seems to be the most versatile. You can use it in bed, in a car, on a plane or even in a tent.

This item also features a "thermal fuse" that will automatically turn off the lamp if it reaches between 120 -130 degrees. This is a useful feature if you fall asleep while reading and if blankets or sheets cover the light and it overheats, it will turn off automatically.

This light was a winner of three international design awards and is the only book light that is ETL approved. It has a heavy gauge wire and a failsafe rotary switch to give you years of use. Of course they recommend that you turn off the light before going to sleep, but it made me feel a bit safer since I've been known to fall asleep when reading at night.

Replacement bulbs are available in 2-bulb packs and if you can't find them, you can use their mail order option. There is also an option of ordering a compact pouch to keep the light safe while traveling.

What I really like about this light is how the light really can be adjusted to any angle. Need light focuses on a certain part of the page? No problem. Move the arm back and forth or rotate the light left or right to position the brightest light possible on the page you are reading.

Nifty Packaging, you can store your light on the shelf with your favorite books!

Seriously in love with this book light!

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep on looking
I got this book light as a gift and really wish I would have returned it and found something else. It works, but only in a time span of 45 minutes then it goes out and will not come back on. I am totally disapointed with this product!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars others
instead of buying this one, opt for a Rayovac booklight...they've got one with a pillow bottom, and another that had a string for around your neck...much better than it's itty bitty alternative

1-0 out of 5 stars Needs reengineering
I hate to admit it, but over the years I have bought 3 of these lights simply because there aren't a lot of good alternative choices out there. Each Itty Bitty light has been a problem, from failing switches to thin wiring breaking to problems with the A/C adapter plug to the hood falling off the light, not to mention the extremely short life and high expense of the bulbs. If you can find an alternative I would buy it rather than this. BEWARE! ... Read more

Great for use in a tent or around the picnic table, this compact lantern not only glows brightly but repels mosquitoes to within twenty feet. Two switches operate the lantern: one for the light, produced from four tiny but strong LED bulbs that never need replacing, and one for three different mosquito-repelling settings. Switching among the three settings every 15 minutes will increase the lantern’s effectiveness. Since only female mosquitoes bite, the lantern uses two ultrasonic tones to mimic the (undesirable) male mosquito, thus keeping the females away. The lantern also provides a setting for audible tones that mimic the dragonfly, a natural predator of mosquitoes. The light and repeller can be used either at the same time or separately.

When the lantern is extended for use it measures 6 inches in length; pushed together for storage, it measures 4-1/4 by 2-1/2 inches. The case and the clear light chamber are made of durable plastic with two metal rods for extra support. Four AA batteries (not included) are required for operation. A small semicircular ring flips up to allow the lantern to be hung from a nail or tent loop; to facilitate hanging, a cord will need to be tied to the ring. The lantern, which should not be left outdoors, is covered by a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

By emitting a low-frequency, ultrasonic sound, thislightweight, portable light repels mosquitoes while simultaneouslyilluminating a 20-foot-square area around an outdoor barbecue grill orpicnic table. 5-0 out of 5 stars All-around just plain great!
First you and J&R Music World (supplier) were terrific. I ordered the light on Monday and recieved it Tuesday morning!!!Not only did I pay less than retail but the light is extremely attractive and works great! As a customer, you don't need more than that. Five stars to everybody.

1-0 out of 5 stars doesnt work
The bug off bbq light doesn't work.
The mosquitoes don't seem to be affected by this!

5-0 out of 5 stars Away skeeters!!
Nothing worse than being outside and being eat up by skeeters.

This works ok. I like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Let there be light (and no more burnt meals)
My BBQ Grill was in complete darkness before I had the Zelco Bug-off BBQ light. This light is very effective. It has a toggle switch for bug repellent (off, one bug type noise, another bug type noise, and then a dragon fly repellent noise). If you extend the arm, the light automatically turns on, with or without a bug repellent noise. This means you don't need to hear those high pitched noises (and you can hear them) if you don't want to.

My grill has no place to clip this on, but that is no problem. With the weight of the 4 D batteries, it sits securely on the side of my grill. In order to use the clip on though, you will need a totally flat ledge on the side of the grill.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Book Light I've Owned
I've owned many different book lights, including the original "itty bitty" book light, and this is by far the best. I would have given it '5 stars' if it wasn't for one little quirk that others have noticed. The fact that it doesn't come on everytime. I did the battery switching, etc. to get it to light until I found out the secret. As long as it is in a lighted room when you switch it on (the brighter the better) it will come right on without a problem. If the room is completly dark it will not come on. I sent an email to the tech staff at Zelco, asking about this, but they never answered.

It does use batteries up quickly, but a AC adapter (or battery charger)will solve that problem. The origional "itty bitty" used up bulbs like mad, which were much more expensive. It lights entire pages, of the largest books, with a light that is very easy on the eyes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good light, problems turning on
This light is very good once it goes on. I've used a few book lights so have a basis for comparison:

Pros:
- Brighter than most, fine for reading in dark space
- Well directed light, so won't wake someone else in bed

Con (and its a big one):
- It doesn't turn on consistently. Once its on, it stays on and is great. But fluorescent bulb technology has a high start-up power need, then it runs on low power very well -- creates low heat too, very efficient. They just spec'd the thing wrong in its battery power. So it irritatingly won't turn on. Sometimes I just leave the switch on and a few minutes later it comes on. Other time jiggling. Has nothing to do with fresh batteries.

Note that the most positive review comes from someone who also recommended the AC adapter, which I suppose overcomes the problem.

Overall, take a pass.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY
Have tried to puchase both the fluorescent and the incandescent light and they both fail after about 8 weeks. The fluorescent's batteries get sucked up in a matter of days when they should last for a month. The light NEVER turns on the first time you always have to shake the casing to re-align the Batt's. The reason for the light in the first place is to not disturb your parter whilst they sleep. The incandescent one was even worse with all of the above mentioned problems with an electrical danger as well. The transformer in the wall adapter actually melted and it was plugged into a properly working Kingston surge protector. The light will not even turn on as the contacts wore out in just 7 weeks. Seriously, go with a normal flashlight and save yourself the money. These unweildy, unreliable, overpriced dangers should not be allowed to be sold.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, But Not Great Book Light
This product appeared to be nearly perfect at first. However, the batteries don't seem to last very long and the light doesn't always come right on. You usually have to jiggle the battery case, or rearrange them. It makes it difficult to know whether you need new batteries or not. However, when working properly, it's a very nice soft light. I like the idea that the bulb will last a very long time, but I doubt that the whole apparatus will have as long a life. I hope they try to perfect this one just a bit more.

5-0 out of 5 stars perfect for the reader in you
Quickly became an indispensible part of my late night reading routine. I found it to be sturdy, bright, and able to handle soft and hard bound books of any size. Tip: get the ac adapter! ... Read more

The information available on the website does not specify where the electricity comes from: wall outlet or cigarette lighter.

Amazon.com Review

Zelco's X-Changer currency exchanger is ideal for the traveler going into multiple countries and using foreign currencies. It's really easy to use. First, enter the currency exchange rate and press the "M" button, then press the "=" button. Next, enter the amount of foreign currency being converted and hit the "=" button again. Voilà! It displays the amount in your currency. Once those steps have been completed, the X-Changer is programmed, which means the first two steps can be skipped until entering another country or using a new currency. It's very small, measuring 4 by 1-1/4 by 1/4 inches (height by width by depth), and very lightweight, so it won't take up a lot of space in a day pack. The X-Changer comes with a battery, neck lanyard, and key ring. --A.J. Rathbun ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Change! Nothing stays the same...X-Changed!
So, there I was--my first trip to Amsterdam, and I'd forgotten to properly estimate just how much cash to bring. Being the stereotypical "ugly American," I was unsure of the going exchange rate for certain services I wished to pay for, and certain items I wished to buy.

You can't exactly blame me; I doubt YOU know how many Dutch Guilders or Euros are the equivalent of a wad of folded-over American singles.

Mmm. That makes me think of Kraft cheese slices. Man, those things are GOOD.

Anyway, I wouldn't want to hand a stack of foreign currency to a Dutch girl (or a Russian one, for that matter), only to realize later that I'd mistakenly given her a thousand bucks U.S.! Or, just imagine accidentally paying double for a tab!

That's where this little beauty comes in. I learned my lesson and picked up the Zelco X-Changer. Once you've programmed the exhange rate, simply plug in the U.S. dollar amount, and the X-Changer quickly computes the sum for any transaction you can imagine.

I'm not wild about the conspicuous light blue color, since I make some purchases out on the street, but the small size allows me to take the Zelco X-Changer into any establishment I choose. And the handy neck-lanyard allows me to keep it close, even when my hands are otherwise occupied!

Wham Bam! Oh, Amsterdam! Yeah, yeah, yeah... ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A terrific companion for readers, students, and writers, thisnifty device is a 50,000-word electronic dictionary that's slim enoughto be used as a bookmark and also functions as a clock/calendar,calculator, and schedule or clock alarm. Lightweight and measuring just5-1/2 by 3-1/4 inches, the device consists of a power unit with a1-3/4-inch screen and a flexible keypad the thickness of a credit card.In dictionary function, the power unit searches for a word keyed ontothe screen and displays the word's definition on the screen. Itprovides spelling help, too. Pushing the "?" key for an uncertainletter in a word permits a search for the correct word.

The keypad sets the clock/calendar and manipulates the calculatorfunction. The alarm function is especially useful. It can be set as aclock alarm (anytime over 24 hours) or as a schedule alarm (on aselected date at a selected time). In either case, when the alarmsounds, the screen will also display a message keyed in--perfect as areminder for, say, a dentist appointment. A 10-year lithium battery(included) powers the unit, and an automatic shutoff preserves thebattery if the on/off button is not pushed after a couple of minutes.--Fred Brack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
This product held so much promise but failed to deliver. 50,000 words might seem like a lot but the really tough words, the ones you really want to know the meaning of, are not in this dictionary. Also, one must spell the word they want the definition for nearly perfectly to get any definition at all. Even if the word is spelled perfectly, if that word is not in this dictionary, it will give you the meaning of any other word that has some of the letters in the word you want to know. I think that the idea is great, the gadget is easy to use and it makes a good bookmark however, it is a poor dictionary due to its very limited vocabulary.

3-0 out of 5 stars May be helpful for some readers, but not for me.....
As a 50,000 word electronic dictionary, I couldn't expect the world of this device, but I had hoped it would be more handy that it turned out to be. About half the words I needed definitions on are not to be found in this dictionary. Based on the words I have found, all of them common usage, I have decided that I think it best serves someone in junior high or elementary school, and is possibly helpful for the high school student, and of very little or no help for the college student or college graduate. I have an old Oxford Minidictionary (approx. 0.5" X 3.5" X 5" in size) with 50,000 words in it that has served me far better, so I have brought it out of retirement an put it back to use.

The Zelco Bookmark Dictionary definitely cannot serve as a bookmark, since all you have to do is pick the book up, and it slips right out causing your place in the book to be lost --- annoying. At least it's small enough and thin enough to fit in a pocket.

The liquid crystal display is big enough to read, but is not as clear as it could be, and needs to be read under bright light. When reading definitions, I found it rather hard to read the entire definition as you scroll through it, as the font gets kind of blurred.

One thing that is good about it is that if you aren't sure of the exact spelling of a word, it can pull up words that have similar spellings, if it doesn't find the specific word itself.

The calculator function is something you might only use in a pinch, since the placement of the numbers is not great.

The clock and alarm functions are handy.

Overall it's great idea that needs more work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Zelco bookmark dictionary
The concept is great-while you read you can quickly check the meaning of unknown words. However, the read-out area is very tiny and difficult to read. It should be made larger. Also, I thought there would be a hook on the underside of the book mark to grab a page. There is not. This causes the bookmark to just slide out when in transit due to the slippery material it is made from. The manufacturer could make this a better, more functional device.

5-0 out of 5 stars Neat Little Item
This item is a neat little useful tool.. Easy to use and read...
Functions as a calculator, electronic dictionary and a book mark. I loved it so much I bought a few for Christmas gifts...for friends and family.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dictionary for Dummies
I thought this was a great idea - a portable dictionary so that you don't have to get up to look up a word while you're reading. The problem? As far as I can tell, it only has words that are already pretty common. Some of the words we looked up that it didn't have include gelid & eidetic - okay, those aren't exactly easy words. Some others, though, like merlot, were surprisingly not there. It became a quest to find words that the thing DID have. We came up with one: onomotapoeia, and then gave up. I think this would probably be a great gift for a young reader, but for most avid adult readers (there were 4 of us), it just doesn't cut it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Great for grilling on the go, this compact, barbecue utensil set comes in a suitcase ready for impromptu beach barbecues, last-minute camping trips, or outdoor parties--wherever grilling expertise is needed. A 13-1/4-by-8-inch hard plastic case contains all the tools, and is super sturdy--so if it gets thrown in the back of a truck or on the lawn, there’s no damage to the utensils. Packed neatly inside are four barbecue essentials--a pair of tongs for lifting meat, a two-pronged fork for picking up or holding a steak for carving, a 3-1/2-inch square slotted spatula for burgers, and a 7-1/4-by-4-inch slotted spatula for fish, chicken breasts, or longer meats. A pair of plastic salt and pepper shakers with tight-closing lids are also thrown in for good measure. All utensils have 18/8 stainless-steel heads that retract into plastic heat-safe handles for storage and extend to 17 inches long. The heads are also fully-removable from the handles, and easily wash clean in the dishwasher. These utensils are fairly lightweight and are probably best reserved as a backup set used solely for traveling. This kit is covered under a one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

James Joyce and Thomas Pynchon won't seem quite so intimidating with a Zelco bookmark dictionary on hand. This is a great idea but it's poorly executed. There are no words in the dictionary. Everything we tried to look up was not in it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Zelco Bookmark Dictionary
Beware! The contrast between background and letters is very poor. This makes it difficult to read the words on the screen. I feel this is a manufacturing flaw. Please try to use one before purchasing. Company (Zelco) does not accept returns, even from their retailers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, but a poorly designed product
Being an avid reader I was really excited when I found this, but the following features were far too annoying to continue using it: It is top heavy so it constantly falls out of the book losing my page; I think it needed to be narrower and longer to hold it in place. It beeps every time you press a button, annoying anyone nearby. Many words I looked up in it were not in there. Scrolling to read the entire entry is cumbersome. The buttons are so close it is a little difficult to press only one letter. When using the timer you always have to type in the entire time and date for when you want the alarm to go off; you can't just have it go off in a half an hour. I think this bookmark dictionary was a great idea, but a poorly designed product.

Some words I did not find in the dictionary: spoonerism, polygot, clemency, eschew, equivocate, stasis, forfend, alacrity, skulk. ... Read more

Lightweight, compact, and portable, this titanium-coloreddevice is a three-in-one workstation that goes from office to school tohome. It functions as a lighted bookstand for reading hands-free, aclipboard for taking notes, and a storage pocket for notepad, pens, paperclips, etc. In the kitchen, it's great for reading recipes from abook because the book rest lifts up and locks in at various angles, while clips hold pages in place and a bright, shadow-free light extendson an adjustable arm to illuminate text. It's also useful as aclipboard for jotting down recipes in front of the television. A sidecompartment large enough to accommodate a letter-sized notepad (oneincluded) slides out of the right side, just below a soft-touch gripfor use when the folio is being used as a clipboard. 5-0 out of 5 stars Theatre techie tool
This folio is a great tool when working in the theatre. As a Lighting Designer, this folio is excellent. I use it primarily when taking notes during run-throughs. It's very easy to flip the light on and off & helps from being distracting.
During focusing & channel checks it's great because once you focus a few lights, it often gets hard to see with spots in front of your eyes. . . this little baby throws light where you need it; on your paperwork!
Also holds paper, pens/pencil, etc.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work as a book stand
I bought this item to use as a book stand. It does not work for this purpose! What a waste of my time and money. If you have a book that will stay open when you lay it flat, then that book MIGHT work with the stand. Paperback books, of most common sizes, will not stay open when placed in the "stand". If you want a book stand look elswhere -- I will. ... Read more
