5-0 out of 5 stars Breadman Fan
I love my Breadman Ultimate. It makes perfect, fluffy 100% whole wheat bread from the recipe in the book -- so perfect that even people who don't like whole wheat bread like this. This is no small thing, as whole grain bread (the only kind I want to eat) tends to be dense and sometimes a chore to eat. I like to make my own bread so that I know what is in it and so I can eat healthier. I love the dispenser for seeds, as I don't want to hang around and try not to miss the beep. I like that I can choose the loaf size, so when I have company I can make a larger loaf, instead of having to make two, and can make smaller loaves the rest of the itme so the bread is always fresh. I read some other reviews that say they have had problems with the bread pan and with ambient temperatures affecting the bread. All I can say is I have had none of those. I have had the machine for about three years and lived in a drafty house on the Canadian border and in a tight modern apartment in Michigan and have used it weekly for much of that time and see no problems. It is a little workhorse that gives consistent results. I recommned this machine highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great bread machine!
I've had this bread machine for about a year and a half. It really does a nice job and is quite easy to use. We use it fairly often, especially with colder weather coming on, whenever a hot, fresh loaf of bread is desired! We've tried several of the recipes in the instruction manual and have enjoyed them all. I noticed one reviewer complained about not being able to order replacement parts. I accidentally tossed my kneading paddle in the trash and was able to quickly reorder one using the number in the manual for $8. The customer service rep was very kind and helpful. I'm planning on buying one of these machines for my parents for Christmas this year and would recommend the Breadman to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced, quality machine.

1-0 out of 5 stars 3 machines later and still NO bread
Imagine a home with two accomplished cooks. Imagine the convenience of a bread maker. Imagine eight months and three replacement products later. Imagine a Catch-22 between the manufacturer (Salton) and Amazon denying responsibility to refund our money. Imagine our outrage. Imagine the smell of warm rosemary wheat bread with English butter on a lazy Sunday morning. Well, keep imagining... we've got the third in a series of defunct Salton Breadman Ultimate setting on our kitchen counter, useless to us as anything but a paperweight. Spend your $99 USD on cooking classes and enjoy the comfort that comes from proofing your own dough.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great bread machine!
Breadman really makes a great product. I should know since this is the third Breadman I've had. The first two are still in use and being enjoyed by their new owners. I used each machine a lot (1 or more loaves a week for years) but eventually decided to step up to a newer model. This new one is really great.
I don't think the product description really does this product justice. For me there are a lot of improvements in this machine that weren't available when I bought my last Breadman 6 or 7 years ago. In addition to making a horizontal loaf this machine has many other great features such as: a hopper for dispensing nut or raisins (not just a beep to let you know it is time to add them), a pause button, power failure backup, bake only cycle, and the ability to program 5 custom bread cycles. The price is great too.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love making homemade bread again, more than ever!
I love the breadman. The best part is sitting watching tv and barely hearing it make wonderful bread that we will be smelling some time towards the end of the movie. I used to make bread myself. Fresh whole wheat bread and I even made a lot of sourdoughs which I must start up again with this machine. The best part is that you just stand there and watch it. No more work kneading or even wrestling with dough hooks like I used to with my Oster Mixer. It made good bread but it was difficult kneading heavy whole grains plus I had to be there 3 to 4 hours every step of the way - by hand. I have owned this machine now for almost a year. It is very easy to clean and is a high quality product. It also does have a stop/cancel button contrary to the review of a previous person. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars nightmare of a gift
I have one of these machines and have had no problems with it. HOWEVER, I sent my 86 year old father one for his birthday (he had used a Panasonic for 11 years but it gave up the ghost! and he bakes bread like three times a week!). Anyway, he has done nothing but turn out "bricks" with this machine. Trying to help him over the phone has been frustrating, especially because we live 1,200 miles apart. Would I give this Zo bread machine as a gift again? NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm so frustrated!
I can't believe all the glowing reports I've read about the Zojirushi breadmaker model BBCC-V20. I have yet to make a good loaf of bread. Today I tried using an expensive mix from the store where we bought the machine. It is a flop! I do like using it for mixing and rising and then removing the dough to finish the bread outside the machine. My husband has talked with the sales rep, but her suggestions have not helped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Bread Machine!
Just received my Zo X20 after using a West Bend bread machine (it died from overuse) for 5 years. I am delighted with the horizontal loaves and beautiful texture. The bread pan releases the loaf easily and I can't imagine having trouble with warping as the pan is quite substantial. I would like more recipes in the instruction manual but should be able to find some online. I'm surprised some people have had a bad experience with the Zo as my family and I have been very pleased.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time, money or ingredients!
If you have reached this page looking for a reference to the Zojirushi, here is my delima: I purchased this machine and wish I hadn't.
It looks and seems like it would be a good purchase, but when I got it home and tried baking several loaves, they were hard as a rock and wouldn't release from the pan. I called the company and they sent me new blades. That helped with turning the loaves out, but they were not eatable. The crust was very hard and the bread was so terrible, I gave it to the birds. I kept calling the company and they finally said to contact the sender and get my money back....thank goodness, I returned it and by recommendation of one of the South Beach forums, was advised to purchase the Breadman Ultimate. I hope this saves whoever reads this some time and aggrivation! Happy Shopping!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Toast
The journey to a perfect piece of toast begins with a ZO cx20. Out of the box, with recipes from the manual, one can be an instant able baker. The ZO turns out bread with a wonderful texture, nicely crusted outside with a tender interior. Perfect with a dab of butter when hot out of the loaf pan; great toasted with jam or cinnamon sugar the next morning. Not being of the baker persuasion, I purchased the Zo - after much web research - following the traumatic closing of our neighborhood Jewish bakery. I have experimented conservatively beyond the supplied recipes and have not been disappointed. The ZO's cost may seem steep to some at first, but in our house we are now eating better, but less, bread. Going from three modest to two large loaves a week, I figure the break-even (3x$2.50 purchase v. 2x$1.25 ingredients) will be less than a year. In about 10 minutes from this writing we will be enjoying just-baked slabs of white/wheat bread with good strong coffee. The prefect way to start a Saturday morning! ... Read more

Ideal for dinner parties of two or four, this breadmaker produces aromatic, piping hot fresh bread in 45 minutes. Compact enough to easily fit on a countertop (or table!), the appliance produces loaves that are 3-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches and 4-1/2 inches tall, just the right size for intimate dinner parties. The oval bread pan gives the loaves a distinctive shape and a little dimple. Operation is as easy as putting the dough into the breadmaker and pressing two buttons, and several recipes are included, such as sunflower oat wheat, Swiss-jalapeño, and feta cheese--and nutritional information for each recipe is also included. The directions are extensive, complete with a troubleshooting guide. The breadmaker's viewing window is especially nice, and lets you watch your bread take shape. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fast little breadmaker
This was an impulse buy - after reading all of the positive reviews here I decided to give it a try. When it arrived I was surprised at how small the bread pan was and was considering sending it back. But then I did 2 things - I looked at other larger breadmakers and realized they take anywhere from 3-5 hours to make a loaf of bread (this one takes 45 minutes total, including the knead cycle) and I made a loaf of bread and discovered it actually can serve 2-4 people with a total of around 6 decent size slices. My first loaf came out a little small and dense so I read the troubleshooting guide and decided it was too little water, so next time during the mix cycle i knew what the dough looked like when it was too dry, added 1 tablespoon of water and the bread came out perfect. This breadmaker doesnt have a timer feature but since it is done in 45 minutes, you dont need one! Other things I like: prep is easy - about 5 minutes (basic bread requires bread flour, salt, sugar, milk or water, butter or oil and yeast), the pan is non stick and very easy to clean and since the loaf is not big you don't end up pigging out on bread. My only 2 very minor complaints: the bread gets cooked around the kneading blade and can get stuck to the bread making it a little hard to remove the bread from the pan and if you lose power, accidentally unplug it or shut it off during the rise or bake cycle the bread machine has no memory so it starts over from the knead cycle (the book does tell you how to finish baking in a regular oven though and this shouldnt happen too often). Overall, I'm very satisfied.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Machine!
I received a larger breadmaker as a Christmas gift, but the other had questionable reviews on this site (it's a Breadman TR444), so upon reading the sparkling reviews of the Just For Dinner, I ordered one the next day. I liked the fact it was compact & took up less counterspace& made bread in 45 minutes. It is a smaller oaf, but as others pointed out, does have 5-6 decent sized slices. It's perfect for a single person, and the loaves are small enough to eat by myself in 2 days tops, before they go stale or the bread has to be thrown away. Note: You do have to use bread machine yeast/rapid rise yeast in this machine- regular active dry yeast won't work, because apparently the loaves don't rise enough before baking. I wonder if that was the problem with my other machine on the Rapid cycle- I was using the wrong kind of yeast....

I have so far had good luck with my Breadman, on the regular cycle anyway, and do plan to keep and use both, but it is nice to have an option for a smaller, quicker loaf of bread! Sometimes waiting 3 1/2-4 hours for a loaf of fresh bread is okay/ you have a larger group, but sometimes you just don't want to wait that long, or need that much. If you're looking for a smaller loaf of bread in less time, the Just for Dinner just might be for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just For Dinner Anymore
West Bend should definitely change the name of this wonderful bread maker to "Not Just for Dinner Anymore". My husband and I use ours most often to make warm breakfast bread, yummy! The aroma makes our house smell wonderful. Add some fruit and breakfast is served. Leftover bread makes great sandwiches, too. The machine comes with easy to read instructions and a good assortment of recipes. It only takes about 55 minutes from start to finish including kneading and baking time to make a loaf. I measure carefully as recommended and have not had a flop in the three months we have had our machine. The Raisin and the Honey/Oatmeal breads are our favorites so far but we haven't as yet tried even half the recipes. We no longer buy store bread at all, I make two or three loaves every couple weeks and that is plenty for the two of us. If you like great homemade bread without much fuss, we highly recommend this breadmaker to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best thing since sliced bread!
We purchased this since we were tired of going to the store every night for french bread. We were a little concerned about the size, but the loaf of bread that it produces is perfect for our family. It serves 3-4 adults and 1 child perfectly. It is quick, easy and a snap to clean up. We had to toss out our previous bread maker because the bread pan lost its coating and was too hard to clean. We have used a variety of bread mixes and all have come out perfectly. We love this machine - it is worth every penny!

5-0 out of 5 stars That's a wonderful little machine!
Based on the reviews (actually the reviews are really helpful too), I finally made a decision to purchase this tiny machine as I had two of the normal size bread machines before and they took more than 3 hours to have a loaf of bread and somehow it turned out with some problems and the breads were really awful occasionally. Those were the main reasons why I donated both eventually but now this little stuff is so powerful and all breads turn out beautifully within an hour. I even made my fresh pasta and cookie doughs recently. It is really great! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best So Far
This is the third bread machine I've had so far and after several weeks I've had good results. My main criteria in a machine was a 2-pound capacity. The machine has a good, heavy-duty pan that is deep, even for a 2-pound capacity, that reduces the mess that flies out and collects in the bottom of the chamber during mixing. It's been very easy to clean and is quiet while operating. My only complaint is the extremely long basic bread cycle (3 hours, 40 minutes) which produces a nicely textured loaf but required much experimenting to find the right amounts of yeast and flour to make a loaf that wouldn't fall. However, the dough cycle is short (1 hour, 3 minutes) and the extra features such as a setting to make your own butter are appealing, though I haven't tried them yet. Not a bad machine--the best I've used yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yum
While there are a lot of good bread machines, one feature of this model made it stand out to me: It bakes one, one-and-a-half and two pound loaves equally well. I prefer to make small loaves more often so that it's always fresh. It's practical to do so with this machine because it's simple to use and easy to clean. Also, sometimes when my husband gets especially creative, one pound is plenty. I cannot recommend, for instance, augmenting a bread mix with canned tuna, and grapes are not simply "fresher than raisins". For satisfying, fresh bread just toss a package of mix into The Breadman TR888. It knows how to make good bread every time so you don't have to. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Noisy but works fine...
After using a friend's Oster/Sunbeam breadmaker for a couple of months, I got hooked on the idea of making my own bread. Since I didn't need a full-size 2lb. model, I decided to try this 1.5lb unit. What appealed to me at first was the compact footprint and the oversized viewing window.

The burn-off issue described here and elsewhere on the web is pretty accurate. My package included a correction sheet for the manual that clarifies that the pan should be in the machine when you run it dry the first time. This may explain why some people reported that the dome window was melting. Anyhow, I ran the machine outside with a bit of water in the pan and that worked out fine.

After that, it was time to try my first white bread. The machine is pretty noisy compared to the Sunbeam model I'd first used. Unless your bedroom is far enough from the kitchen, you will hear this sucker if you decide to use the delay timer for morning fresh bread.

The first loaf I made was a failure since Fleischmann's active dry yeast (unlike others) is not suitable for bread machines. The granules are different sizes and do not dissolve fast enough. So I bought instant yeast which has very small granules which should have done the trick...but it looks like it was old! I had to use double the amount to get the bread to rise to a decent height. Anyhow, now I buy yeast in large vacuum packs. It is very reliable, last forever and is labeled "instant" or "quick" yeast.

So far, I've made over a dozen breads, mostly whole grain or variations of "healthy" breads. For a small family or couples, this unit is a great value. I've used stone-milled and unbleached wheat with success, although I never add the egg that almost every recipe in the book uses. Pizza dough recipe was good, but I cut down the sugar and yeast to get a thinner crust. If you like it doughy, follow the recipe as stated.

The only caveat is the crust colour control...never set it higher than LIGHT. On my machine at least, the MEDIUM setting caused the sides to almost burn...and I've never tried the DARK setting because of this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!
I have had this machine for about a month, and have made seven or 8 loves in it. All I can say is that to it makes incredible bread. Perfect horizontal loves in three hours. My only complaint is that the initial burn off, and the first loaf of bread - made an intense plastics smell while cooking. This ceased to to be a problem after the second loaf. Otherwise, a truly wonderful machine. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just got one of these
After reading a recent review of bread machines which stated that they basically all function the same, I purchased one of these at a local department store. It is out of the box and almost done baking its first loaf (3 hrs). So far, no complaints other than the noise (its louder than I expected, but for $40 can't complain). My friend, who has a 'fancier' (and much more expensive) brand of machine, is very intrigued with this little guy. I look forward to trying out its first loaf of bread tonight and proving that $$$ don't necessarily buy you a better loaf of bread. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is my first breadmaker... I don't have a true basis of comparison against other machines. However, I did my homework and bought a machine with the features I wanted in the price range I could afford. I've had the machine about 3 weeks, and have made about 15 loaves of bread. So far I have had fairly good outcomes, however, most loaves collapse. I have tried adjusting the ingredients as I have read in the book that came with the machine and on several websites, but there seems no rhyme or reason as to why the tops to cave in. Raisin bread came out great twice, and I made a loaf of Country White that didn't collapse. Other than that, every loaf sank, but I must say that even though they weren't exactly attractive, they tasted good. They weren't "bricks," they were just flat on top. I am not going to give up; I enjoy using the machine, I am an experienced breadmaker, and I know how to find and use resources. I believe I will be successful.

As for the machine itself, I find it easy to use and to clean. So far I have had no problems with the machine itself, only the recipes. (That's what I believe, anyway... I don't think it's the machine causing the tops to cave in, but the ratio of ingredients.) I could recommend it for anyone who has the time to stay with the machine and adjust the ingredients while the dough kneads. I haven't tried the delay timer or the ExpressBake features, as I thought it best to keep an eye on things while I'm still a breadmachine beginner.

By the way, this model appears to be exactly the same as the Oster 5838, but they call it Inspire and only sell it through Target stores.

1-0 out of 5 stars big mistake
I was the proud owner of a wonderful Oster bread machine which produced bread that would rival the best of breads. Although the bread was next to perfect, the machine was incapable of making a 58 min. loaf. There was no question that in purchasing a new breadmaker, I would first turn to Oster because I was so pleased for so many years. I purchased the Oster Expressbake machine and it was a horrible mistake. The machine doesn't mix the dough well, pieces of unmixed dough clings to the crust, the consistency of the bread is mealy and the crust is extremely tough. I am in the process of trying to return the machine. As for my old machine, alas it got so busy mixing dough that it took a dive off the counter top and had to be put to rest. My heart is broken, but I don't think I can replace such a dear old friend because I don't think that bread machines are being made the same way today.<br />

5-0 out of 5 stars Great machine, great results
We have been using this gem for many, many loaves of bread. It far surpasses our first "Welbilt" brand breadmaker we used to its 'bitter end'.

5-0 out of 5 stars it works well...
I have this machine for one month and have used it four times and it works well. English is not my primary language so I am very careful when measuring the ingredients and I am also using a digital scale... so far no problems, the bread tastes good and I am happy with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now I'm a breadmaker
I've had my Oster for over two months now. I wanted to give it a good trial before offering my opinion. After researching the net about bread machines, I knew a practical person could expect some trial and error with any bread-baking endeavor. I didn't anticipate I would hit a home run my first few times out and I didn't. My personal goal was the *tastiest, healthiest bread recipe ever* for sandwiches and toast. (So, please keep in mind, I haven't tried any other kind of bread, in case you are looking for another viewpoint). It seemed to me that the recipe was the key and it took maybe four less-than-stellar loaves before my research led me to my dream recipe. Every week since, I've batted .1000.

Once you have a good recipe, this machine couldn't be more enjoyable or easier. I can't give it a higher recommendation.

I have one suggestion that differs from most directions you will ever see. If you are seeking a fabulous whole wheat loaf, use the regular cycle. Add a couple tablespoons of vital wheat gluten and use the regular cycle.

Bottom line: I love my Oster. If it was practical, I'd make you some toast right now.

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not mix well
I'm sorry I can't recommend this machine. It simply doesn't mix the ingredients well. For raisin bread, most of the raisins wound up stuck to the outside bottom of the loaf, and several raisins were simply lying loose and burnt in the bottom of the pan. When making whole wheat bread, I had to continually scrape the flour from the side of the pan while the machine was mixing so that it would be included in the dough ball. Even then, not all the flower was picked up in the dough ball. I've used a bread machine for several years, so I'm pretty experienced at this. I would pass this one by, folks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Steer Clear of This Machine!
I had an old WellBilt bread machine, probably ten years old, that made perfect bread nearly every time. The only thing I really disliked about it was the round loaf pan, so this Oster caught my attention.

I've only had it a week, but in that time I've attempted to bake four loaves of bread, and none of the four have turned out well. Two collapsed, and one never really got off the ground since so much of the flour stuck in the corners of the rectangular pan.

I plan to return it this week and hopefully find something that will work better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply wonderful
I've had my breadmaker for a couple of weeks and i couldn't part with it.I have made some of the most delicious bread, and pizza crust, and dinner rolls.I'am looking forward to trying the jam recipes next.Very easy to use,and compact.

3-0 out of 5 stars Oster Bread Maker Review
Well, I am from Bombay India and probably the only member of my family that was as excited about getting a new bread maker at home for that Fresh smelling bread. I managed to get an Oster
breadmker last month. The only drawback I have is that here in
Bombay we dont get readymade flour for the bread. So I have to
get the flour, salt, sugar, butter, yeast and mix them in the pan.
I have tried baking a whole wheat bread 5 times. The 1st 3 times it was a total mess. The 4/5th time I got a very good looking bread which was perfect to eat while it was hot but became a rock hard WEAPON once it became cold the next morning.
Could someone please tell me where am I going wrong with the
Whole Wheat? I have followed exact instructions from the OSTER

The white bread was a great success all times but I mixed and matched the ingredients as per my own intuition and DID NOT
follow the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic !!
This is a bread makers dream. This is a bread maker that is high tech., yet simple to use. It has many features not avaiable on other makers, (and I've gone through two others). This machine allows you to customize the bread you want to make, various types and batters, sizes and crusts...and more.
It has a hard crust feature to replicate the European crusts. It even does bagels that come out as bought at the deli.
Sultan, the manufaturer, has another great product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfultool and great buy!
Pros: Price, ease of use, recipe book, delay timer and fast bake cycle.

Cons: None worth mentioning READ THE MANUAL!

After reading reviews here I bought this unit instead of a Kitchenaid mixer to replace my aging Welbilt bread maker that I used to nmake basic bread and pizza dough. I found this unit for less than $50.00 locally and am on my second 25# bag of bread flour.

I found that my bad loaves were a result of not having read the manual, using my old recipes or measuring improperly.

A basicbread maker at a great price. ... Read more

I just love this quesadilla maker and can't say enough about it! It is wonderful to make your choice of recipe combinations by simply sandwiching cheese, chicken, beef, scrambled eggs, beans, a dab of salsa or what have you between two ordinary flour tortillas. The finished result compares with and beats the quality possible in many restaurants for this easy appetizer and snack.

A certain amount of common sense caution is in order since this appliance's heat plates get as hot as a waffle iron and the other surfaces get almost as hot, hot enough to cause a serious burn-use oven gloves or pot holders as mentioned in the user's manual and be wary of the hot steam that escapes when you lift the lid after the quesadilla is through cooking!

If in your enthusiasm you decide to stuff your quesadilla with more cheese and other ingredients the hot contents WILL leak out the sides in addition to reaching the detachable collection scoop at the front of the unit, so it's important to rest the unit on maybe a cookie pan for easier cleanup and to minimize the mess that can be created from over-stuffing.

This quesadilla maker would make a great gift for anyone who loves quesadillas and great for those looking for a nifty way to make appetizers or a quick snack.

Happy cooking! ... Read more
