5-0 out of 5 stars Brews the perfect cup of gourmet coffee or tea!
This is by far the best coffee system I have had the pleasure of owning. The numerous, high qualtity gourmet coffees and teas that are available in the K-Cups are wonderful. The cup of coffee or tea that you brew with this system is superb and the Keurig brewing system also looks great on my kitchen counter.I have owned one of the other pod systems and it does not even compare to the quality, ease of use and care of the Keurig.I am very happy with my investment in this system!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee/tea maker, couldnt be more pleased
When I first saw the Kuerig brewer in a car lot's lounge I thought it was the coolest thing ever.I love to drink coffee and tea, and this machine allows me to easily switch from drinking coffee to tea without having to clean a pot or basket.I thought it over for several months before buying this machine, but ultimately I decided to splurge and go for it.I couldnt be happier with the quality of the machine and the ease of use.

My only complaint is this- in the mornings I like to fill a tall travel mug with coffee or tea to take to work with me and drink in the car on the way.To do this I have to use 2 k-cups which to me really stinks.I think that the machine needs to have a 3rd size setting for larger cups for commuters!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good coffee, easy to use, convenient
The Keurig B50 makes a decent cup coffee in seconds, with almost no cleanup required. The coffee selection is the largest of any of the single cup brewers, and all the varieties I've tried have ranged from satisfactory to good.Making coffee is not going to get much easier:fill the resevoir with water, pop in a K-cup, press a button, and voila, you have a hot cup of joe.

But how does it taste? The Keurig is very consistent:I have yet to encounter a single bad cup (and I have consumed about 50 cups so far).Generally the K-cups don't produce coffee as good as from my local coffee shop, but it's better than the coffee at my office and better than the coffee in many restaurants.I can also brew better tasting coffee at home by buying freshly roasted, high quality beans, and using a traditional brewer.

So why do I like the Keurig, if I can brew a better cup?Even though it's possible to brew better coffee at home, I almost never did.You see, I'm a one-cup-a-day coffee drinker and an infrequent shopper, so keeping a pound of coffee -- or even a half pound -- from going stale before I finish it has been a challenge. And no matter how nice the beans were at first, when they go stale, the result is undrinkable. The individually sealed K-cups give me fresh coffee every time.

Flavia is the only other single cup brewer I tried. The machines are similar in many ways, but I recommend Keurig because the selection of coffees is much wider and I enjoy the variety.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best one cup brewer
Trust me...I tried them ALL!

I live alone...and was constantly making a mess...and throwing away leftover coffee...stale grounds...etc.

I saw the advertising for Phillips Senseo and decided I would try that thing out.Yuk.I thought it might be defective so I tried two different models. Both stunk.

Then I tried a Mr. Coffee pod/espresso combo machine...figured it might be better since Mr. Coffee's been making coffee makers for so long.Coffee was okay...but the machine was a MESS and had no auto shutoff...and would just keep getting hotter until the plastic melts and possibly starts a fire.No thanks.

Okay...(you're probably thinking I need to get a hobby at this point)...I went to the FANCY department store and got the Keurig. That's the winner...hands down.Coffee is not as good as a really great coffee shop...but it's usually as good as regular home-brewed coffee...sometimes better. The pods vary WIDELY.If you like strong coffee...go for the Green Mountain Roasters French Roast or Dark Magic. If you don't...go with pretty much anything else out there...because it's all pretty mild.

Good luck!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money......taste suffers
We ordered one from the Keurig website, very excited about the propect of such convenience with a wide selection of coffee to choose from, and were very disappointed. We returned the item (it was worth the $12 shipping to send it back via UPS) because ultimately the taste was not very good. The machine is convenient and performs as described but the coffee tastes awful. We tried several varieties and the coffee always has a plastic/chemical taste to it. Don't waste your money. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Braun Electric Kettle
We were recently in England and saw friends using an electric tea kettle that was different than any we had ever seen in the U.S. I had to have one. When we got home I found this lovely Braun electric kettle and purchased it immediately. It does all we expected. It has a large capacity so you don't have to refill it constantly. It boils very, very quickly and shuts off so I don't have to watch it. I love being able to take it to the sink to fill it without dragging the cord. It's very easy to clean because it detaches from the base. I like the large handle grip and the water window on both sides. We use it for everything instant including soup. How did we get along without it?

5-0 out of 5 stars Clean Design, Very Functional
I got this after destroying a ... Alessi kettly by accidentally letting it boil dry until the plastic parts melted...

I was about to spring for one of the Zojirushi megabuck dispensers, when I spotted this unit. I have always liked Braun (more consistently good than Krups or Cuisinart) for their design and ergonomics. This pot doesn't fail to impress. This baby is FAST; It boils water at 1 minute per 8-oz cup (or faster, if you start with hot tap water). For a single cup of tea, this is about as fast as you can select a teabag and prepare the cup! BTW, this actually holds 7 cups, not 6 as described.

The design is very nice and clean-looking. The base is especially well-designed, since you can put the pot on rotated in whatever way is convenient. This is apparently a big win over the Krups kettle. The "mineral filter seems like overkill, but it does prevent splashing of the boiling water, and causes pouring to be very smooth. Cleanup is brain-dead simple (pour out the excess water after use, and flip the top open to allow evaporation). Pot itself does not get too hot to touch, and the handle stays completely cool. Automatic-off features work under all sensible scenarios: when it reaches full boil, when the top is opened for any reason, when lifted off the base, or when the pot is empty.

As for the Zojirushi dispensers? They may be useful if you want a lot of water (up to 5 liters for the big ones) held at a controlled temperature. But for most home uses, this need is rare, and otherwise deosn't justify the ... price tag.

For me, the Braun is one of those are kitchen appliances that took a while to see the need for, but now I couldn't live without. A real time and hassle saver!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply a better kettle
Not only does this improve upon the standard stove-based kettle, but it improves upon the previous generation of fixed-cord electric kettles.

The separation of kettle and corded base allows the former to be taken to the sink (or refrigerator if you're boiling pitcher-filtered water) without bother. It makes pouring at the table or in another room easy, as well. The cord can be wound inside the base so that only the needed length is exposed - neatening your countertop. The base has a "360-degree rotational connection," which means that you don't have to align the kettle in any particular way when replacing it. No buttons to press, no connector to snap.

The handle and kettle shell stay cool, obviating the need for a hot pad when picking it up, and the single control is as simple as can be: press it to start and it turns itself off when the water boils. If you forget about it, you needn't worry about boiling away all the water and leaving yourself with a burnt pot. (It will also turn off automatically if the pot is empty, the lid is opened, or the pot is removed from the base!)

The anti-calcification filter reduces scaling and thus the need to run a vinegar solution to clean out the buildup (something most people never do with their stove-based kettles). The design allows you to easily see the entire inside of the kettle, so you can keep an eye on things.

For those who regular drink tea or other beverages made with stove-boiled water, an electric kettle is a real convenience. This Braun kettle is about as convenient as they come.

1-0 out of 5 stars short and not so sweet!
I TRUSTED THE OTHER REVIEWS HOWEVER WITHIN 4 MONTHS THIS POT SMELLED OF ELECTRICAL SMOKE. AFTER THAT CLEARED IT SLOWLY BUT SURELY CEASED TO WORK ALTOGETHER. TOTAL SPAN OF USEFULNESS? LESS THAN A YEAR! VERY DISAPOINTED.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just About Perfect
We got this as a summer substitute for the Zojirushi hot pot that keeps boiling water always available, because our airconditioner didn't appreciate the constant heat (although we continue to love the Zojirushi "in season"). The Braun is perfect. A full pot of 7 cups boils in 5 minutes and then shuts off. It's light, not ugly, and has a red light indicator on 2 sides. Best of all, the platter is perfectly designed, so that you don't have to orient the pot one way or another when you sit it down. The whole thing pretty much stays out of your way; even the cord length is adjustable. Perhaps the only thing missing is a bell or ring-tone that tells you when it's done. Small detail. ... Amazon.com Review

Lots of folks dislike the burnt flavor that coffee gets when it sits in a glass pot over a heating element. To avoid this, coffee shops often brew right into large thermal pots to keep the coffee warm without it becoming overcooked. The Zojirushi Fresh Brew does that, too, but in home-sized batches. It looks great, too, with a glossy black body and stainless steel carafe and brew basket.

To brew, lift the lid and swing the water outlet spout to one side while the filter is being loaded; the spout will return to its proper position when the lid is closed. A small red ball in the water gauge makes it extra simple to read. And an electronic clock module also serves as a timer that will start the brewer at a specified time. The carafe's lid is designed to be on during brewing, with a small cap to help keep the heat in after it's ready. The Fresh Brew also has a pause-and-serve function that stops the flow for 30 seconds while a cup of coffee is served.

To clean the brewer unit, use a solution of white vinegar and water, following the instructions in the accompanying booklet. The unit is not immersible. The exterior can be wiped with a damp soft rag; do not use abrasives or scouring pads. The filter reservoir is removable; clean with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. The coffee brewer measures 15 by 12 by 9 inches (includes carafe handle when unit is completely assembled), and it uses #3 cone-shaped disposable paper filters. The Fresh Brew comes with a detailed instruction booklet. Zojirushi guarantees its products with a one-year limited warranty. --Garland Withers ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This makes very good coffee and keeps it hot for several hours. A quality product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Coffee Maker
The design of the carafe on this maker is good; the mouth is a bit wider than most, but you will still need a bottle brush to really clean it. There is even a secondary carafe lid to prevent air from entering the carafe after you have brewed a pot.

I bought mine at Costco for less than Amazon, and the latest revision of this model (Model EC-BD15BA) states that you can use the readily available #4 cone filters. I think Zojirushi realized that #4 filters are easily found for the American market.

The unit is easy to program for timed brewing, and the water level indicator is easy to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another quality Zoji product - just what I was looking for!
I was looking for a coffee maker with a large capacity, unbreakable carafe, auto-shut-off, pause-and-serve, and a programmable timer. I found everything I wanted
with this Zoji.

It has a stylish, brushed stainless carafe that stays cool to the touch and has no breakable glass liner like some carafes have. The base has an easy to read water-level display, with markings up to 10 cups, but it has a larger capacity than my old 10 cup Braun. It also has a cute little elephant on it!

The 1.5 liters works out to approx. 51 ounces, or just over 6 (8-ounce) cups. My old "10 cup" coffee maker held about 5 8-ounce cups. I never have quite figured out what counts as a "cup" in coffee terms, but it seems to vary between 4 and 6 ounces.

This is a pretty tall (15 inches) coffee maker, and you have to lift the lid to add the coffee and the water. Since steam comes out of the top, I pull it out from under the cabinet when it's running. If you have shallow counters, this could be a little tricky.

The only down side, in my opinion, is that it uses the hard-to-find #3 filters. I've gotten around it by cutting about 1 inch off the top of my #4s. I also had a little trouble getting the lid off the carafe when I screwed it on too tight - I had to put a towel over it to get a good grip. Those minor details aren't enough to cost it a star, though.

I'm not sure how long coffee stays hot in this carafe, because we drink so much coffee around here it doesn't stay in there very long. I did sleep in one morning, though, and the coffee that was automatically made at 6:15 was still hot at 7:30.

Overall, I am extremely happy with this coffee maker. I have hot coffee ready for me whenever I get up in the morning, and I never have to wonder whether I forgot to shut it off when I leave the house. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dark is best
I found the mild was undrinkable and the medium barely tolerable. But the dark roast is quite good. Its on the Starbuck-type bitter side, but not as strong. None of these single serving coffee machines will taste like fresh ground. That is why you get some one star reviews for the Senseo.

I keep the Senseo in my office for hassle-free single servings and it is great for that. Even the dark roast is really not strong enough to qualify as espresso, so I suggest you just use the double packets and make a large cup.

Here is a further hint. Use a 10 oz cup, not a standard 8. Then put your milk in the cup and microwave for 30 seconds BEFORE you make the coffee. After coffee is make make sure to stir with a stirrer. Stirring is important and is actually recomended by Philips.
As long as your expectations are down to earth you should enjoy this product. The machine itself has been flawless and doesnt seem flimsy at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why I couldn't live without my Senseo Machine anymore?
Simply because I always get up late and need a fresh cup of good strong coffee to get me started. As I'm always in a rush, this machine, that brews one or two cups of coffee in abouyt 90 seconds is a life-saver. The coffee tastes great (especially the Dark Roast) and has the frothy cream layer I always liked so much from the Cafe-creme they serve in Europe.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding coffee
The coffee pods are a bit pricey, but Douwe Egberts coffee is indeed the best. The Senseo machine and the dark roast Douwe Egberts is the best cup of coffee I have ever had at home (and about as good as any I've ever had at Starbucks). Great coffee machine and great coffee. Just hope the price of the pods go down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, creamy coffee! I'm permanently buzzed...
I just bought my Senseo coffeemaker yesterday at Target. I got a free $10 gift card with it. I have already enjoyed 6 cups - nice big American mugs, not wimpy little European demitasse cups - of the BEST coffee I have ever had. The creamy head is WONDERFUL! Others have commented on the low height of the spout, but my mugs seem to fit under it just fine. Yes, it's a little noisy when brewing, and the water reservoir is a bit small, but the convenience of brewing one delicious creamy mug at a time is worth it for a single guy. I have already ordered a larger water tank from another retailer - not in stock yet. I used to throw away a nasty half pot a day - no more! I use two pads to brew one mug (I drink it straight up black), but I like my coffee more like espresso than the watery brew most Americans prefer. There is a permanent filter on the web with mixed reviews, but I can't seem to find anywhere to actually order it. Hopefully, someone will figure this out soon and offer a reasonably priced permanent filter. Meanwhile, I am going to try making my own pads using Starbucks French Roast - HOOHOO!

4-0 out of 5 stars Make Your Own Pods At Home!!
I really like my new Senseo maker, but I found that with one pod the flavor was too weak and with two it was too strong. So I found a way that anyone can make their own pods at home on another website.
Now I make my very own coffee pods with my favorite brand of coffee. It costs a LOT less and the flavor is EXACTLY right. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the 10-cup stainless steel, double-wall insulated thermal carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I purchased the thermal carafe version 10 cup
- previous was the typical old plastic type with glass carafe

Good Points:
- much considerable improvement in coffee taste now
- the thermal carafe with autoseal until poured keeps coffee hot and no stale or burnt taste, it is double lined with stainless steel
- auto shutoff of heating element immediately after brewing prevents burning of coffee and electricity bills
- the 1-4 cup extra heat excellent idea
- the built-in grinding process
- choice of using paper filter or gold filter basket
- beeping tells you when coffee is ready
- does not have that ugly water level marker, it has a built-in marker where you pour water, a 3-D step ladder sort of speak
- does not expell any heat or humidity from unit, well sealed
- nice design and looks

Bad Points:
- cannot tell amount coffee left in carafe
- pours out slowly from carafe
- carafe autoseal feature requires you to pour at a steeper angle to get faster flow output which still isn't fast enough for me
- grinder howls for about 30 seconds when running, it does not adjust grind-time for amount of coffee beans inside, it defaults to a 10 cup grind, solving this would require some clever engineering idea
- I find I have to clean more than my old machine, I clean the grinder and lid, basket and basket lid, ... the grinder does create a lot fine coffee dust which does get packed into every nook and cranny

4-0 out of 5 stars Was skeptical, but I love it.
I bought this Cuisinart instead of the DCC-1200 because I wanted a thermal pot, not a glass carafe. I wasn't too keen on the grind feature, but after using it for a week, I LOVE it.

Brewing from fresh-ground, high-quality beans is definitely the way to go. And it's so simple -- dump the beans in at night, wake up to a great cup. As for cleanup: big deal. When I have time, I wash out the grinder. If I'm in a rush (which is most mornings), I wipe it out with a paper towel. Small price to pay for really tasty coffee.

Cuisinart must've redesigned the carafe, because mine is absolutely drip-free. After reading the negative reviews below, I tried to get mine to drip/spill, and I couldn't.

The only reason I'm not giving this machine five stars is that the DCC-1200 looks so much cooler (though this model does look pretty good in my kitchen).

5-0 out of 5 stars They must have fixed problems of previous reviewers.
Several older reviews indicated a lot of problems, so I was reluctant to purchase one, but family members love theirs, so I took a chance. I love it! After a month of use, I've had no leaks on the counter, and this is the first coffee carafe I've ever had that actually pours correctly! And it actually makes HOT coffee! There are a lot of parts to clean(7, if you count the carafe and lid separately) but you get used to it. It's worth it for the rich, very hot coffee it makes! A word of advise: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING! and expect to spend a half-hour learning to use it. You'll avoid the "coffee on the counter" problem cited by other users.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Customer Service!
We purchased this coffee maker from Foley's around Christmas. It was the previous model DGB-500. Our grinding basket jammed and it took some work to get it out. When we removed it, we noticed that the seal between the grinding blades and the basket was damaged. Long story short, we called Cuisinart (on a Saturday, no less!) and got a customer service agent immediately. We simply gave the serrial number of the coffee pot and model number and they sent us a new grinding basket! It was that easy. By the way, THE WARRANTY ON THIS COFFEE MAKER IS is 3 YEARS! We previously had a Melitta Mlll and Brew. The heating element failed, and we attempted to get warranty service for it. The customer service agent refused to allow us to send the coffee maker without a receipt. PAY THE DIFFERENCE AND BUY THE CUISINART, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
Don't buy this coffee pot! I can't believe Cuisinart made a piece of junk like this. Here are a few cons:

1. The built in coffee grinder doesn't let you grind enough beans to make 10 cups of strong coffee. Either you have to grind it separately, defeating the whole purpose of this model, or you can only make 6-8 cups.

2. The steam from the coffee soaks the grinder, turning it into a muddy mess you have to clean every time you make coffee.

3. The grinder often leaves whole beans inside, clogging up the spout.

4. When you pour the coffee, the carafe leaks, dripping a puddle of coffee onto your counter top.

5. On several occasions I've set the timer only to wake up to coffee all over my kitchen floor! Yes, you read right. The coffee often doesn't even make it into the carafe. Rather, it leaks over the lid and ends up all over you counter top and kitchen floor. Not what I had in mind when "waking up to the smell of coffee."

Do yourself a favor and pick a different model. This one is a lemon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can you say WHEW HOOO!
After 3 Mr. Coffee coffee makers dying on me in the same amount of years I decided it was time to invest some money in one that might last me longer then 6-8 months! The design of the Bunn is simple and easy to use and who can complain about having HOT coffee in about 3 minutes time! The other feature I am THRILLED with is that my boy friend and I work different schedules which requires him to be up at 4am and me not until around 7am. With other makers, you normally have an automatic shut off after 2 hours and I refuse to reheat coffee in the microwave because I want the taste of fresh brewed as well. (yeah so I'm spoiled!) In the past I would always throw out whatever he hadn't drunk and brew my own. I was pleasently surprised to find that when I went for my 1st cup several hours after he had already been at work, the coffee was still hot in the Thermal Carafe and not nasty tasting after having sat on a warming plate for hours. I recommend this maker to anyone that likes coffee and wants it fast, tasty and hot! Well worth the money!

4-0 out of 5 stars Smooth Coffee, Hassle in the beginning
I just retired my Cuisine Art Grind and Brew after slowly died for 4 yrs. My husband wanted another one, but he was not the one who had to clean it everday. I am now a stay at home mom with an infant and a 2 yr. old. I NEED GOOD COFFEE AND I NEED IT AS SOON AS I DRAG MY SLEEP-DEPRIVED BODY OUT OF BED! I get up a few hours later than hubby, so I wanted a thermal carafe as I was tired of drinking scorched coffee. I also wanted something attractive and easy to clean. THE MOST important thing I wanted was EASY and EXCELLENT Coffee.

The initial set up was kind of a hassle. I don't like leaving the coffee maker plugged in and turned on all of the time. It has a vacation switch and Bunn recommends using this if you are not going to use it for 3 days. The coffee is SMOOTH and EXCELLENT. It stays hot for about 2 hrs, but after 3 it is lukewarm. I was hoping it would stay hotter longer. It is so easy and fast to make a fresh pot, I am willing to put up with it. Overall, I am very pleased with the taste of the coffee. I am amazed how the taste is even better than my Grind and Brew delivered.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best!
My mom always had a bunn coffee maker, for as long as I can remember. When I got married 7 years ago, I received the same coffeemaker. It is still going strong today. When my brother got married, it was the obvious wedding gift. They love their's too. It is a great long term investment. The lid certainly does not leak-as another review stated.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great buy!
My mother - and my grandmother - had been at me for years to buy a Bunn coffeemaker, but I'm stubborn... When my last coffee pot died, I decided to give in and buy a Bunn from Target. But I didn't buy the same model... I bought the thermal carafe brewer (for an updated look!), even thought it cost a bit more. <br /> <br /> I absolutely LOVE this machine!! I cannot believe how fast it brews the coffee. And the thermal pot keeps the coffee hot for hours, without the use of a burner, so the coffee always tastes fresh. I love the fact that I don't have to keep the pot with the machine - I can sit it on the kitchen table when company comes, because the bottom always stays cool. <br /> <br /> I like this machine so much that I'm encouraging people at work to get one as well! It is well worth the investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only one complaint
Well, technically, I can't complain. It does what it's advertised to do -- make a piping hot cup of coffee in about 90 seconds with foam on the top. Changing coffee brands took some getting used to. For a company that's been in business since 1753, Douwe Egberts has a few things to learn about coffee. It has a sour taste that always makes me wonder if my cream has gone bad. Folgers Home Café makes pods about the same size. I never thought I'd be drinking Folgers, but it tastes better than the coffee designed for the machine. Were someone to come up with a reusable coffee pod, I'd go through the extra bother to get an excellent cup again. My one gripe with the Senseo is that the spout is fitted too low to accommodate any of my coffee mugs. The spout should be adjustable to provide an extra 1/4 to 1/2 inch of space if needed. I looked at the two cups that came with the machine only long enough to judge their weight and balance so I could sail them across the kitchen into the trash container. I found just one mug in my kitchen short enough to fit under the spout, so now I drink my coffee from my son's Winnie the Pooh Happy Birthday hot chocolate mug. He stopped drinking out of that mug 10 years ago. (sigh)

5-0 out of 5 stars Time for a coffee break worth every sip
Let me stress that I don't work for the manufacturer or for Sara Lee!

I received my machine on 9 April 2004 and brewed a cup within a few minutes (after flushing the machine as recommended). Even the medium roast tasted richer than most coffee I've made with traditional coffee makers. My wife likes a milder tasting coffee, so the mild roast is perfect for her. The dark roast is the closest to espresso you'll get without spending hundreds on an espresso machine. The coffee is nice and hot and the "crema" layer on top completes the experience!

For those who gave this machine poor reviews, make sure you wash the pod holders and water tank and flush the machine before the first use. If you don't use it for more than a day, flush it before use with fresh, cold water. Be sure to use the correct pod holder and press the correct (4 oz or 8 oz) button. Place the pod with the flat side up(has the Senseo logo printed on this side). Use fresh, cold water (probably the most important ingredient in coffee) and don't reuse the pods! I tried this and the second cup tasted like "coffee from a can" coffee. Finally, and most important: give the coffee a stir before drinking. The bottom layer contains most of the good stuff.

I hope that other coffee roasters are reading these reviews and will offer pods. My only concern at this point is that there aren't any alternative pods from other roasters yet available. The Douwe Egberts brand coffee is excellent, but the availability of a variety of blends and beans will be demanded soon, because sales of this machine are sure to take off!

Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars European coffee at its best
This is a great coffee maker if you like strong european coffee, which I do. The cup sizes are smaller than what most americans are used to, but the coffee tastes great, and more is not needed. I've been looking for something like this for ages. Glad I found it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks Good, Tastes Lousy
This machine looks great on the counter and you can't beat the convenience. You'll have 4 ounces (1 pod) or 8 ounces (2 pods) of the most mediocre and expensive coffee you could hope for in less than two minutes--from a cold start. Maybe it's not the coffee, but the process that turns out this cup of...whatever it is. I don't know. <br /> <br /> Maybe some other models make a better cup of coffee--and a real cup, not this dainty 4 oz toy cup. Try before you buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yeah BABY!!!
I got a Black & Decker home cafe for my birthday in September. Great coffee...well due to reviews on this site I kept the box and receipt (it was from Target..of course :). Well it worked <br /> for about 6 weeks...and then started spewing water everywhere. <br /> I boxed it up and took it back and decided I could be ok with <br /> my drip coffee maker...well here I am 1 week later...I was <br /> making my sorry drip coffee this morning and...long story short. I couldn't deal...so I went to target this afternoon <br /> and used my gift card (from the Home Cafe return) to purchase <br /> a nice black senseo. <br /> <br /> I have just finished my first cup of coffee from the Senseo and WOW. AWESOME. There is no contest between the coffee <br /> from the senseo and the coffee from the home cafe. The home <br /> cafe made lukewarm coffee...the senseo made coffee just slightly too hot to drink right away...PEFECT IMHO. I like <br /> my coffee to be good and hot when I first drink it.<br /> <br /> Also, the senseo is most certainly of higher qualite' than <br /> the B&D machine. It doesn't feel like it's going to fall <br /> apart when you touch it. I did take the advice of the <br /> reviewer who said to thoroughly clean and soak all the pieces <br /> before using the machine and I don't notice any strange chemical-like taste. <br /> <br /> Anyway, major thumbs up. I thought the home cafe would be <br /> nicer because you can get a 14 oz cup of coffee..but honestly <br /> 8 oz is PLENTY and really if you wanted 12 you can just <br /> brew an 8 oz cup and press the 1 cup button again and get <br /> your 12 oz. It would be nice if you could fit a travel mug <br /> in it...but I did get quite a large mug that I have under <br /> the spout so this isn't that big of an issue. <br /> <br /> I also find that one pod is enough even with 8 oz of coffee. <br /> It was quite strong (course I am an American and all so not <br /> used to drinking straight up espresso)....and just about <br /> perfect for my taste. <br /> <br /> Anyway, just wanted to let you all know I think the senseo is <br /> a great buy. Now if the pods would come down in price I'd <br /> be REALLY pleased. :) ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Satisfy a roomful of guests calling for caffeine with the Jura-Capresso Impressa S9, the luxury automobile of home espresso centers. Both beautiful and powerful, the machine grinds, tamps, and brews delicious shots of espresso in 50 seconds and steams or froths milk without a wait. It's built with a dual 1250-watt ThermoBlock heating system, a forceful 18-bar power pump, and a distinctive emphasis on choice. You can steam milk manually or automatically, make drinks with or without foam, and grind for light or dark roasts. You can tailor your drinks' strength (5 to 16 g of coffee), size (1/2 to 16 ounces), and temperature (regular or high). You can even adjust the machine for water hardness, raise and lower the coffee spout, and regulate the separate hot water spigot.

Backing these options is a professional-grade, solid steel conical burr grinder with six settings and an aroma-saving design. A pre-infusion cycle conditions grounds for maximum flavor and the CLARIS water filter removes impurities for improved taste. The S9 also includes an illuminated coffee area, cup-heating deck, separate funnel for pre-ground coffee, and automatic indicators on the water tank, grounds hopper, and filter cartridge. The bean reservoir holds 10 ounces--enough for 40 shots--and the water tank holds 96 ounces. The unit also features auto shut-off, auto-on, self-rinse, and self-cleaning. The programmable control panel uses a two-line display with simple instructions in seven languages.

With its dual-tone bronze finish and chrome accents, the Impressa S9 is undoubtedly a looker. It is also designed to fit under kitchen cabinets, measuring 14 by 14 by 15-1/4 inches with a retractable power cord. Jura-Capresso includes an instructional booklet, video, and CD-ROM, plus a full one-year warranty for home use and a six-month one for offices. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars At last: the coffee achiever's dream machine!
Setting up the Jura was simple, taking about 10 minutes. After adjusting the grind setting and quantity of ground coffee per cup, we had flawless espresso shots in less than 30 seconds each, with the creamiest, most flavorful crema. The espresso non-drinkers in the house can have their "regular" coffee by pressing the "Special coffee" button, which dispenses up to 16 ounces of coffee at a time. Great for the big "go-cup". I set the Jura to power on at 5 am, and trust me, at that time of the morning I am in no shape to grind beans, measure coffee and fill water tanks. Now, all that's history. All I do is press a single button to run the rinse cycle, press a button for either a single or double shot, and in no time, I get the most flavorful, richest espresso I have ever had. We bought our machine at a local retailer, where we were told that they can't keep the machines in stock. I totally understand why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the best, BMW of Espresso Machines
If there is such a thing as the BMW 750 of coffee machines, this is it! A beautifully enginered machine that produces professional results every time. I have had earlier versions of this flawless coffee maker, but this really delivers better coffee than most coffee stores. Cappuccino, Latte, Double Espresso is produced perfectly. Others in our family use it to produce hot water for tea, soup mixes, cocoa, but one may preprogram this for several personal choices of coffee brewing and it comes out perfect every time. I really like this machine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome
If you like all types of coffee and complete ease of use, you will be thrilled with this machine. It has been & is used a lot! It tells you exactly what to do and when to do it in order to keep in it top condition. I thought my husband was nuts when he spent so much money for a coffee maker for my birthday, but after 3 years of almost continual use, I can't imagine using anything else. Everything about it is easy, easy, easy. The coffee is hot & consistently great tasting, it is fast, and the Capresso machine is super easy to clean. Friends come over just for the coffee. Whether you need one cup or two, whether you use beans, ground coffee, use frothed milk, and/or steam, whether you use a large cup & your husband uses a smaller one, the Capresso machine easily adjusts with each cup. Minor issue -- I'm not in love with the manual. It's not hard to use, it's just not great. I think it could be laid out a tad better. The video that came with our Capresso made up for that. It's the perfect coffee center for anyone who is very discriminating in their coffee taste.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee - Be aware of long-term maintenance costs
I purchased this machine's predecessor, the Jura S90, about 4 years ago. Since no one's owned an S9 for that long, it's hard to say for certain what the maintenance costs for the S9 will be, but I thought those considering buying it might appreciate knowing that it will likely require a certain amount of annual or biennial maintenance.

The S90 has one part that needs replacing after approximately every 2000 shots, which in my house means about once every 18 months. There are also seals and similar parts that again will need service periodically. This machine appears to be mechanically very similar to the S90, so it will likely have similar maintenance characteristics.

Over the last 4 years, I've had the machine serviced twice by Jura, and once by a local repairman. The cost of repairs was around two hundred dollars including parts each time... My front panel switches are also starting to misbehave, though, so the next repair may be more expensive.

This machine costs enough (and is good enough) to be worth repairing, but if you're expecting a machine to last the ages without any repairs, you'll likely be disappointed.

I can't really fault the machine for needing periodic maintenance, though. You could get a commercial machine with heavy-duty parts for 2-3 times the price, and that would need periodic maintenance, too (though the parts would last longer). Just be aware that by buying a high end machine, you've moved out of the "disposable" machine range and into the "pay to fix it" range. "Never needs fixing" doesn't exist.

As to the quality of the coffee, I've tried this one, and the quality is the best I've tasted from a super-automatic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Hint
A couple of previous reviews complained about blockages that quickly developed in their machines. I had the same problem after less than a month of use, where the brewed coffee would drip out very slowly, threatening to cease altogether. I told my wife she should return the machine, but she called Jura's customer service number, which is printed on the cover of the instruction booklet. The representative gave her a fix which is not mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the manual. It's difficult to describe, but it involves removing the grounds tray, poking a finger up through the chute and finding damp grounds that are stuck by a screen there. They can be wiped away with a paper towel and that should clear up the problem.
Otherwise, I recommend reading fhimas88888888's review for realistic advice, especially about the lifespan of a machine. This is my second super-automatic espresso machine, as a Saeco awaits repairs before becoming an office machine for my wife. They make very good coffee and espresso with relative ease and convenience. They're also great conversation pieces, although by now I find it tedious to demonstrate the machine for awed guests. If you love espresso, lattes, etc., the price of a super-automatic machine is worth it, although you can find one for less than half the cost of this Jura. I give the machine four stars because I wouldn't want to live without it, but I'm withholding a fifth star because I suspect competing machines are virtually as good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love'in this machine!
After a few weeks of researching a REALLY good coffee/espresso machine I decided on the Capresso C1300 because of the combination of features and price. I recently took a trip to the Netherlands and at the hotel I stayed at they had a Super Automatic coffee center at the breakfast buffet (unknown brand or model, but definitely industrial). Anyway, when I got back Monday morning I immediately starting researching "Super Automatics" (they have a hopper to store the coffee beans and grind the beans on a per cup basis, have a holding tank for water... then when you push a button they grind, tamp, brew and dispose of used grinds automatically).

Well, earlier this week my new C1300 arrived with much fanfare. I picked it up at the post office, brought it to my office and unpackaged and inspected it. I was in perfect working order. I started with the included "quick start guide" and set the machine up per instructions. I had it up and ready to brew in less than 15 mins. The owner's manual was easy to understand and I had my first cup of coffee crema in less than 45 seconds after hitting the brew button. (For you coffee junkies, this machine makes a wonderful layer of crema on top of the coffee/espresso EVERY time!) The machine makes wonderful coffee and espresso. I spent a day or two tweaking the grinder settings and finding the right (according to my tastes) water settings per cup. I have several people come by my office daily to behold the wonder of my machine, at first out of curiosity but now for the great cup of coffee. I really have nothing bad to say about the C1300. In the morning it heats up very fast and having FRESH coffee anytime of the day at the mere push of a button is wonderful! ... Read more

Elegantly bold with a stainless-steel tank and black decor, this hot-water reservoir-style home brewer makes 10 cups of cafe-quality coffee in less than three minutes. The coffee brewer's specially designed stainless-steel inner tank, with its 800-watt heater and internal thermostat, keeps water at an ideal temperature for maximum flavor and fast brewing. A vacation switch is provided to completely shut off all electrical components when the unit is not being used for three or more days, but safety features, designed into the coffee brewer, make the daily use of this switch unnecessary. Whenever the brewer has been shut off or unplugged, the filled tank takes about 15 minutes to heat the water to the proper temperature before using. While coffee is being brewed, the newest water in the tank is heated to the proper temperature and held until needed so that hot water is always available. The unit's convenient sliding lid makes it easy to add water, while its custom spray head insures optimum coffee-flavor extraction. Brewed coffee is kept hot with the unit's durable, porcelain-coated, scratch-resistant decanter warmer, which is controlled by a lighted on/off switch. The only routine cleaning required is rinsing the brew funnel and decanter after each use and occasionally wiping the outside of the brewer with a damp cloth. For more thorough cleanings, the brew funnel and decanter are top-rack dishwasher safe. We received this coffee maker as a wedding gift. My husband thought it was crazy that anyone would spend this price on a coffee maker when you can get one for $20. After tasting one cup of coffee from this coffee maker, he changed his mind! Because the coffee maker holds a reservoir of hot water, the coffee when it is brewed comes out hot. Most of the time with regular coffee makers, the coffee comes out luke warm and you have to nuke it in the microwave. Not with this one. We absolutely love this machine. No problem with set up or anything. We highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the way to brew coffee
Over the last month I have purchased four coffee brewers and returned them while searching for the best machine I could find. When I received my Bunn, I was impressed with the quality and design of the machine right off. Once I made my first pot of coffee I knew this was the one I had been searching for. While this is the latest Bunn design for home use, it functions very similar to the more standerd version. The initial setup takes a bit of thought and preperation because unlike other brewers, the Bunn alsays keeps a pot of hot water ready to brew. So you first have to fill up the storage tank, then add another pot and only then turn on the machine and wait about fifteen minutes for it to warm up. Once you have accomplished the initial setup, making a cup of java is as simple as one, two, three. Just put your coffee in the filter, and place it in the holder, add the water and close the swivel top. Almost immediately you have coffee flowing into your pot. Ten cups in less than three minutes. Want another pot, just one, two, three again. Here are some of the things I noticed. Compared to other brewers, this one weighs more. I suspect that is do to the fact that unlike the cheeper brewers it is not all plastic, but rather has a stainless heating tank etc. The light which indicates the warming pad is active is lighted and easy to see from anywhere you roam. The unit comes with a Three Year warranty from the manufacturer. The pot has a wide mouth which makes it easy to clean. The warming plate is coated for easy clean-up. It is made in the good old U S of A. SUMMARY: If you want a well made, simple to use, coffee brewer that makes great coffee in less than three minutes. If you want to make a statement that you know about coffee and how to brew it. If you insist on quality, then this is the one for you. If on the other hand you want a bright red or blue designer piece of plastic, with little lights, a clock and timer. Perhaps even something that lets you know when the coffee is finished, then perhaps this is not your best choice. ... Read more

Just got my Senseo yesterday. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread. just pop in the pod press a button and you've got a great cup of coffee in 30 seconds. Perfect for this busy New Yorker that is always on the run!! =)

5-0 out of 5 stars Bye, Starbucks!
Why would I spend five bucks per latte (and take my chances with the barista's skills) when I can make my own cup of foamy happiness in less than a minute, and for so much less? Answer: I wouldn't. At least not any longer. The Medium Roast coffee pods will satisfy you whether you drink it black or take it "regular" (with milk & perhaps sugar). I like to use one Medium pod and one Dark Roast pod for my first cup in the morning...it makes a nice, fragrant cup that packs a jolt. I'd highly recommend buying a few bags of the Medium Roast and the Dark Roast at the same time. If you're like me, you won't want to run out-your mornings just wouldn't be the same without your Senseo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sensational Senseo!
After spending 2 weeks in the Netherlands last year, I was hooked on Douwe Egberts coffee and found one place in all of Dallas/Ft. Worth that sold it. Finally! America gets Senseo! The coffee I woke up to for 2 weeks and loved. The medium and dark roast are my favorites. Douwe Egbert is excellent coffee. Once you've tasted this high quality Dutch coffee, you'll never go back to American/Columbian nor that burnt stuff sold in those bookstores. Hopefully prices for the coffee will come down. For now, it's cheaper for my friend to ship me Senseo coffee from Holland (package of 18 pads there is less than 2 Euro) than to buy it here in the States or online. Now I will celebrate SENSEO DAY, the day I received my Senseo machine (tho it arrived without the free coffee cups) every year!

2-0 out of 5 stars Get the dark roast instead!
The Senseo machine shipped with two 18-pod samples packs, light roast and medium roast. Excited about my new machine, I brewed my first cups of coffee only to be disappointed, not by the machine itself (awesome!), but by the quality of the coffee. The light roast was so-so, and the medium TERRIBLE. I quickly ordered the dark to compare, and can now HIGHLY recommend the dark roast over the other two options. The dark also works the best in espresso-like brewing mode, using two-pods with the 1-cup setting. It's still not the best coffee out there, and I'm looking forward to comparing with the upcoming podhead.com pods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Fresh Ground Coffee Imported From Belgium!
Douwe Egberts makes some of the most delicious European coffee. When the Senseo Single Serve Coffee Maker was created, these single use, disposable coffee 'pods' fit together like hand in glove. 5,000,000 European coffee lovers cannot be wrong...Senseo Douwe Egberts is outstanding, fresh tasting coffee, and each imported 4 pack, (72 Single-Serve pods), comes attractively packaged in a resealable pouch.

Medium roast is apt to be a particular favorite for American coffee tastes. It has a rich, full-bodied flavor, neither bitter nor astringent. The Senseo coffee machine can make 1 4 oz cup, 2 4 oz cups, or a single 8 oz cup at a time. The self-contained pods use a tea bag filter-type paper and are approximately 2" in diameter.

Right now, the price averages 25 cents per 4 ounce cup. The Senseo makes it with a bit of frothe on the top, and this medium roast coffee is fine straight up, or try it with a little sweetner and a dollop of Hazelnut creamer as I do.

I do envision the price point coming down a bit, as the Senseo system becomes the US equivalent of the European sensation. Douwe Egberts recommends using your pods within 2 weeks, however, I've had good luck storing the extras in the freezer section of my refrigerator with no dicernable flavor change. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pulls perfect espressos shots every time
I was a little dubious about spending so much for a coffee machine, but this little coffee robot is like a new member of the family. When I go to Starbucks, I get a decent double espresso one out of every ten or so times. This wonder pulls them just right every time and fits under the cabinets. The smooth stainless steel exterior matches some other kitchen appliances and was a big deciding factor for me since I wanted a machine with some style.

The reconditioned one I received had no scratches or other problems, and seems to be running fine!

5-0 out of 5 stars No need to go to Starbucks anymore
I purchased the Italia at Starbucks 2 years ago (for a lot more money) and have been using it daily. This machine is easy to use, and easily adjusts ground to water ratio to get the perfect espresso. Frothing works great. The newer model has a swivil steam wand that can rotate in and out and not just left to right like this model AND an additional rack on the top cup warmer to keeps cups from falling off (not worth the additional cost-I never had a cup fall off).I save money every day by not buying a Venti from Starbucks since I can make a more consistent quality coffee myself.ENJOY! ...
