5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Pasta and more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I wanted a colander that drained ALL of the water from my pasta, greens, etc. It does the job - better than my other colanders anyway. It doesn't fit into the ULTIMATE colander category - but it is right up there. I recommend it - especially for the price. The non-stick surface and rubber handles alone are worth the price, plus - it's very nice looking. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product.
My wife loves these colander (bought 2 for her). Beautiful colander with fine craftmanship. Definitely recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Functional
This looks wonderful hanging from the pot rack. After several washings, it has retained its bright silver appearance. It strains fairly fine particles, is easy to clean and seems durable. Unlike the plastic ones, it's not going to melt or break, and it has a nice enough look that you can set it on the table with your drained noodles if you like. Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars wowzers
It's not cheap, but it's gooood. Whether you need to drain pasta or filter out the mind control rays from the orbital satellites, this one'll do the job for a long time. Very solid. A little bit heavy, but that's the tradeoff--sure, you can get lighter (and wimpier) colanders, but why run the risk of having your mind being subverted by the CIA because they jack up the power a bit?

Seriously, it's a very good colander. You'll never need another one. The handles are welded on so there's no rivets to fall out, and it's about the right size for the typical pasta mess. Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice drainer, easy to clean
I have only used plastic drainers in the past. They always end up cracking or staining. I have been using this stainless steel drainer for a few weeks and it is wonderful. It is easy to clean and use. I think the quality is pretty high and the piece appears to be very sturdy and durable. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Because of their constant contact with water and other liquids, colanders made of stainless steel are exceedingly useful and long-lasting. Beyond the superior metal, this model also has a superior look. With rows of leaf-shaped holes, this colander will add to the beauty of what's happening in the kitchen. Leaf-shaped holes also prevent small, round foods from slipping through the colander. This colander measures 10-3/4 inches in diameter with 1-inch-high base, and is dishwasher-safe.--Rhonda Langdon ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Is there any difference?
I've seen a lot of colanders and personally, they're all about the same. What makes the Amco Colander better than others is that it uses standard sizes and they're known for their high quality steel. This is one of those where you can substitute for a cheaper product but if you got the money, go for it. =) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, and should last a lifetime
You don't need anything fancy to drain pasta, but this colander is a beaut, and its steel construction means it'll last forever. It's also quite large; if I had known how large it was, I probably would have opted to buy a smaller (and slightly less expensive) one. If you're looking for a nice "splurge" kitchen item without setting you back too much dough, this would make a nice choice. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The glossy and colorful enamel finish on these two colanders gives them a fresher and fancier appearance than standard stainless-steel fare. Plus, the enamel coating is no more difficult to maintain than stainless-steel--as it doesn’t retain food odors or alter food’s flavor and is highly resistant to scratches, moisture, or oil.

The two colanders in this set include: a miniature 1-quart size for straining the water from a single serving of cooked tube- or shell-shaped pasta, mixed vegetables, or lettuce and a bigger 3-quart size to handle larger quantities (for two to four people) of the same foods. Perforations on these colanders are about 1/4 centimeter in diameter--so the colanders are not useful for draining cooked spaghetti or other skinny noodles as they’ll slip right through. Metal handles on either side of each colander are designed to hold up over time. These colanders are safe for the dishwasher but should not be used with metal utensils as it can damage the enamel. --Cristina VaamondeWhat’s in the Box

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Practical
I didn't experience any of the strange problems mentioned above, nor have I had any problems with any of my copper pots. Did they remember to de-laquer the colander? Are they using copper paste to clean it or dish soap? Did they soak it in lemon juice? I'm sorry they had such an horrible experience, but copper hasn't been used for cooking utensils since time immemoriam because it doesn't perform as good as it looks. Something this special requires special care, but its worth it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks great, performs terribly!
How can a colander, a simple kitchen tool, not do its job properly??? Well, this is a beautiful shiny copper colander that is very decorative, but as soon as we drained pasta in it, the colander became horribly discolored and stained. Despite repeated scrubbings and polishing, it still has slight stains. Now it is a large ornamental item on my pot rack. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars doubles as a drying rack
This is great for rinsing fruits and veggies, draining pastas, even staining the water from frozen spinach BUT what i use if for most is to air dry my dishes, knives, even pots. It is extremely sturdy, as i have piled many a things in it - and i have had it for six months

5-0 out of 5 stars Tough enough to handle pasta
I regularly use this strainer for pasta, produce, you name it, and I've never questioned its strength. I used it on Thanksgiving and all my relatives oohed and aahed. I'll be purchasing some as gifts! It's my favorite strainer, hands down.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Necessity I Didn't Know I Needed!!
This is my favorite wedding gift so far, if you can believe that. It's so handy! Now I don't have to worry about my food getting in whatever yuck happens to be lurking in the sink! And no more worrying about it tipping over either. It's a must have!

5-0 out of 5 stars very handy and attractive
I just bought mine this past weekend and put it on a shelf in the cupboard. The next day I brought it out and used it to wash grapes. It worked great. Then I put it away. A little later that day I pulled it out again to wash pears, peaches, strawberries, and apples...and it's still sitting there with the apples in it, acting as a fruit bowl. It's great because it keeps the fruit up out of the sink, more at hand-level, and it's big enough to handle a whole bunch of grapes or a dozen+ apples at one time. It's not plastic so I don't worry about leaching chemicals into the food or trapping air and rotting the fruit, and it's a nice small mesh so nothing really slips through but the water. It's even rather attractive, sitting there with apples in it. The adjustable part is loose enough to slide easily but not so loose that just bumping it will readjust, so it's very stable there on the sink. It also allows you to place it on the sink even if you have a built-in vegetable sprayer or a dishwasher Air Gap. It just fits right over it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love It
I only use this for rinsing produce, so it performs wonderfully. It doesn't seem durable enough to use for heavier items. I would be skeptical of dumping a large pot of pasta in there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this if you like pasta
This is a neat tool.

What makes it nice is that when you drain your pasta, it holds the pasta up above the surface of the sink without using a second hand. If you use a large pasta pan this can avoid burns and pulled back muscles.

If you have used other colanders that have feet to do this, they don't have them high enough to keep the drained pasta water from backwashing over the pasta again before it goes down the drain... Yuck.

The only negative, is that it is a pain to store, due to it's shape and size. However, if you are like me, it goes from use to dishwasher to use again, so it's official storage place never gets used.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product- Good Price!
I recently purchased this product from a high-end kitchen store for about 25% more $$ (before Amazon launched their kitchen store) and I love it! It is like having two extra arms when trying to cook pasta, sauce and bread all at the same time!

2-0 out of 5 stars great idea, poor design
i'm disappointed in this over-the-sink colander. several of the little rubber coverings over the feet fell off right away, leaving sharp little feet that can scratch up my kitchen. equally irritating, the silver band at the top of the colander can trap small items, such as rice i've been rinsing. this not only makes it a pain to clean, but forces me to scoop some contents out with a spoon, rather than simply pour them out. i wouldn't repurchase and am tempted to toss mine and find one with a more sensible design.
on the plus side, i like the relatively fine mesh and the shape. the large area lets me spread items across the bottom, simplifying rinsing and inspecting them.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Invention
Hey this was my invention, a great one by the way. I guess I didn't seizer the moment soon enough. Oh well I just know that it is a great idea, and it will work wonders for people who love to cook.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed
I had the same experience as another reviewer, the little black rubber end covers fell off immediately, food get caught around the edge in the space between the mesh and the metal rim. I too am going to toss this one, and get a better designed strainer bowl (it doesn't have to be over the sink, either). ... Read more
