Amazon.com Review

Great for commuters, office professionals, and one-coffee-drinker households, this personal coffeemaker brews 15 ounces of coffee directly into a stainless-steel travel mug. The mug has a rubber handle for a safe grip and a lid to keep coffee hot. It's tapered to a 2-1/2-inch-diameter bottom, so it fits most vehicle cup holders. The coffeemaker itself is designed for an on-the-go coffee drinker. It has a permanent filter--no messy disposable paper filters required--and shuts off automatically after brewing. The mug, filter, filter basket, and mug lid are dishwasher-safe, and the coffeemaker can also be used to heat water for tea, hot chocolate, and instant foods like oatmeal and soup. Made of gleaming black plastic, it measures 9-3/4 inches high, 7 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, andcarries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee With No Fuss
I read the reviews before ordering this personal coffee maker, and since some people had 'overflow problems' and some talked about coffee not being quite hot enough, I almost didn't get it.

Glad I went ahead. First, I put a small tray under the coffee maker in case of an overflow...I also always use a No. 1 size Mellita Filter in the basket, which makes it easier to clean and may help with the overflow problem, since I have never had that happen.

I use Folger's Classic Roast and use one and a half scoops with a regular size coffee scooper..I fill the cup within about 1/2" of the top and pour it in...put the cup in place, click the switch and ......perfectly hot, full bodied coffee every time with no problems at all so far...have used it about 20 times.

It makes a great large cup of coffee and the mug has a very comfortable feel to it. This coffee maker comes in handy when you don't want to mess with a full pot and it is very fast. I couldn't be more pleased - well worth the price!

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb performance at a great price
I read the other reviews (some negative) that claimed that this coffeemaker has overflow problems. When you have such an easy Brew n' Go model, why not fill up the coffee mug with water to the level you want and dump the water in the top? I did just that, added my standard 1.5 scoops of coffee grinds, and it performed flawlessly and tasted great.

Although it doesn't come with the best cup on the market - for example, it's not spillproof, but it definitely serves the purpose well and is very nice looking. Although you can smell the plastic cover while you drink - especially when it's new - the taste is not affected as was mentioned by others.

And a permanent filter which is so easy to clean is a major benefit!

I have absolutely no complaints, but rather compliments about Amazon's quick service (5 days ahead of the planned date) and a great product at a great price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy & Great
I love this coffee maker. I ususally walk down the street for coffee everyday. But, this is easier and I only have to make one cup at a time. The best thing is that I don't have worry about running out of filters! Awesome!

4-0 out of 5 stars very useful
This is great if you don't drink alot of coffee. Ours lasted a year and we're ordering a new one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Convenient Coffee Maker
I love this coffee maker, its convenient, fast and conserves coffee, as I am the only coffee drinker in my home and making a regular size pot of coffee just for myself is wasteful, with this it don't sit on a hot plate and roast and the remainder of the coffee gets thrown out, so I'm able to make a single cup when I want one. I'd reccommend it to anybody, and I have. ... Read more

Perfect for preparing coffee at home before dashing out the door, this coffeemaker brews through the lids directly into either one or both of the 14-ounce travel mugs accompanying the machine. The stainless-steel mugs have rubber, nonslip grips, fit most vehicle cup holders, and are 6-3/4 inches high, with 2-5/8-inch-diameter rubber bottoms. Lids keep coffee hot in the mugs and are deeply indented and sloped toward the drink hole to contain spills. Both mugs and their lids are dishwasher-safe. The coffeemaker uses disposable paper filters (two included), automatically shuts off after the brewing process, and can also be used to heat water for tea, hot chocolate, and instant foods like oatmeal and soup. Made of gleaming black plastic, the coffeemaker measures 13 inches high, 5-1/4 inches wide, and 8-1/2 inches deep, and carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Too many coffee drinkers don't spoil the pot
We have 4 coffee drinkers who rise and set at different times. This little coffee maker fits the bill for a good hot unspoiled cup of coffee at any time (I'm not dumping stale pots down the drain much any more). You don't have to toss the regular coffee maker, it is still good on weekends, but when you want a cup at 12 midnight, and if someone else happens to want a brew as well, the decision is brainless. It uses readily available cone filters and makes a great tasting "big" cup.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yum!
Love this coffeemaker. It brews quickly and makes one or two wonderful cups (cups at 14 ounces each.....) I have actually unplugged my "big" and expensive coffeemaker. Have used this twice to three times a day and so far no problems. I am very picky about the taste of my coffee, want a flavorable coffeehouse brew and this little Two To Go unit delivers consistently. I like this so much I just ordered another unit for my son-in-law for his birthday!

Hopefully this little coffeemaker stands the test of time and holds up because I really like it! The cups hold the java at a warm temp for longer than I expected and have been very useful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Stick with a regular coffeemaker
I've tried this coffemaker a few times and I just don't like it; the coffee comes out weak and bitter-tasting. So then I said "well, I'll just use the travel mugs". The bad taste comes from the cups ... I take a great cup of coffee and pour it into the travel mug to go ... instantly bad-tasting. I've washed and re-washed the mugs to no avail.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you love coffee, don't buy this one!
This coffeemaker is compact and handy for making fresh single cups of coffee. However, I had one for about a year at work and it always added a very bad plastic taste to the coffee. I cleaned it several times and used my own mug, and the taste got a little better over time. But it still made the coffee "plastic". I finally got a basically free brewer from Gevalia and my coffee tastes great again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete Disaster
My brother introduced me to this coffeemaker and I liked it so much that decided to pick up one for myself. I set mine up, filled the reservoir for two cups and water immediately started gushing out of the base. Before I knew it half of the water was all over my counter. I hadn't even had a chance to plug it in and turn it on. In retrospect my snaillike pace at unwrapping the tie wrap from the cord probably saved me from being electrocuted. I'm sorry I ever deigned to cheat on my trusty low-tech french press. It's back to the middle ages for me. ... Read more

Virtually unbreakable, this lightweight, vacuum-insulated thermos travels to work or recreation easily, and for hours afterward, coffee, tea, or broth will still be hot. Or lemonade, iced tea, or a sports drink will still be chilled. Tapered toward the top and slim enough (11 inches high, 3 inches in diameter at bottom) to safely pour with one hand, it slips into a briefcase or backpack. Pouring is a snap--twist off the cup, which holds 6 ounces of liquid, twist the stopper a few turns and pour through a no-drip slot (there's one for righthanders, another for lefthanders) without removing the stopper. Fine threading ensures the stopper seals tightly, while the exterior has a handsome satin finish. The smooth interior cleans with sponge or cloth, and preheating or prechilling with hot or cold water is recommended. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps it at temperature and in the thermos!
I have a busy schedule, so I have found myself running out of the house with my coffee in an insulated mug - keeping it in hand as I make my way to the subway, since it doesn't have a sealed lid. After about a month of this charade, I decided to buy a thermos - a coworker had given a stellar recommendation to purchase a Thermos Nissan. I don't regret it one bit. I bought the 750ml model, and it fits upright in my messenger bag - but I have also had it completely horizontal in the bag without any worries about leakage. And the coffee is piping hot! Just make sure to prep the thermos with boiling water before you put the coffee in, and you're good to go all day. This is the best thermos on the market - bar none - except maybe for their Titanium model - but that's like [$$]! Unless you're some sort of uber yuppie, stick with the stainless model and use the extra [$$]towards detailing your Volvo!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great thermos for coffee or tea
When I bought this bottle I had pretty high expectations because of previously owning a similar one, and having been issued a much larger one of the same type from the Army. The Nissan Travel Companion met my expectations completely. It will keep coffee hot for 48 hours if you need it to and are leaving it full for that time. The time degrades from that to about 8 hours if you are drinking the contents. If you fill the bottle with hot water, let it sit for a few minutes, to heat up the inside of the bottle, and then fill it with your coffee, it will stay hot for as long as you leave it full and unopened. Sounds silly, but try it.

Most days, I actually want to drink some of my coffee before the day has passed and the thermos works well for that too. I make a pot (7 cups will fit) in the morning, rinse the bottle out with very hot water, and I drink my coffee throughout the day. It is very hot for most of the day, into the evening. If a cup or two remain at the end of the day, they will not stay hot into the next morning. It only works for more then a day, if you leave it completely full, and don't open it until you want to drink it.

The bottle is well made. I've had it for almost 6 months now and use it every day. I even use it on weekends so I can turn my coffee pot off. It keeps the coffee fresher and just as hot as leaving it on the heating burner.

I only recommend this thermos (or any stainless steel bottle) for black coffee, tea, or hot water. Add your cream and sugar or whatever afterwords. Vacuum bottles are not dishwasher safe and it is dangerous to put food stuffs in it because you won't be able to get it completely clean. Coffee and tea can be rinsed out without a problem.

Summary. Keeps fluids hot for up to 8 hours of normal use. Up to 48 hours of full quantity storage. Very durable and drip proof. Not dishwasher safe, and should not be used with soup, cream, milk, or sugar.

Conclusion. Is day old coffee still "day old" if it is still piping hot?

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent thermos
I bought the Nissan travel companion based on the reviews on Amazon and have no regrets whatsoever. I have been delighted with it. My friends were amazed when I told them that the steaming-hot coffee I was pouring in the late afternoon had gone in at 6 a.m. The stainless steel construction seems sturdy and gives the bottle a classy look. Plus, how often are you going to purchase a bottle that says has pouring instructions in Japanese on the stopper?

5-0 out of 5 stars great thermos!
I wanted for something on the go or for around the house. It keeps beverages hot for hours and after 8 hours, it kept it the same hotness as when I put it in!! Could even still see the steam! The cup is nice too and I haven't had a problem that I burned my self. It keeps drinks cold too which is what I wanted too. I can keep it in my car in the holder but since its so high, its not too good to keep it there so I keep in on the seat and so far no spills. It slim and I like the pouring lid so you don't have to take the whole lid off - great thermos and for $20 - a great bargain!!

5-0 out of 5 stars It was well worth it when it cost $30....
It was well worth it when this thermos cost $30, but for $20 it is a steal! I bought it out of necessity for a thermos; its usefulness and function exceeds my expectation. I keep it on my desk, and I find that coffee is still hot well into the afternoon. And it's the perfect size, holding just about half a pot of coffee.

Kudos to Nissan for an exceptional product! ... Read more

Morning coffee still steams at the end of a long workday when stored in this briefcase bottle from Nissan. This larger version of the popular FBB500 bottle holds enough cocoa for a small family, and is easily stowed in a daypack or briefcase. With a 2-3/4-inch bottom that fits most vehicle drink holders, this lightweight mug makes hot coffee, tea, or chocolate available on the road. Hot beverages stay hot for at least 1 hour. Cold beverages stay chilled for several hours. Twist the finely threaded stopper tight, and the mug won't leak even if it's knocked over. Twist it about a quarter-turn and drink out of either side--lips on both sides make it easy--without removing the stopper. Made of stainless steel and tough plastic, with a rubber inset inside the handle for comfort and a rubberized ring around the body for a firm grip, the mug is handsome and virtually unbreakable. 4-0 out of 5 stars This mug is nearly perfect.
First, let me start by saying I absolutely love this mug. It fits in cup holders. It has a great, ergonomic handle. It seals completely air tight, and does an incredible job as preventing splashes and spills. And, it keeps drinks hot or cold for an INCREDIBLY long time.

My only beef is the capacity of the mug. For me, 14 oz of drip coffee isn't enough to do the job in the morning. However, it is perfect for drive-thru latte stands, so it really depends on your preference for capacity. I actually bought the 20 oz mug for drip, and use the 14 oz mug when I know I'm getting espresso. A bit indulgent, I know.

If the capacity of the mug is sufficient for you, then you can't go wrong with this mug. But, if you need a little more java to get you going in the morning, I recommend a larger capacity Nissan Thermos mug.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best coffee mug I have ever tried
My fiance spent a lot of time looking around for a coffee mug that would work for me, and he picked marvelously! The best features of this are the most important ones: convenient size for car drink holders, holds enough volume to be worthwhile to bring it with you, keeps coffee very hot for a long time (I can fill the mug and cart it to the gym with me and 2 hours later, drink it and the temperature is perfect!), is comfortable to hold AND DOES NOT LEAK when closed!! There are very few products I love the design of enough to write about, but this is one of them. I know I sound like a hired Nissan advertiser, but it really is worth the [money]. I use it everyday.

5-0 out of 5 stars Takes a lickin' and keeps on keeping coffee hot!
I've left this coffee mug on top of my car, driven off, backed up to retrieve it and STILL it holds up! OK it has gotten a dent or two, but it is still fully functional.
PLUS all the positives the other reviewers mentioned - really is spill proof (not just spill resistent), keeps coffee really hot, goes in the dishwasher, comfortable handle, etc., etc., etc.!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I finally found it
I love this cup. Yes, it's expensive and it is slightly small, but it is the ONLY travel mug I have ever used that doesn't leak even a little bit - and I've been searching for years. I finally plunked down the money after apilling coffee all over a white skirt. I use it every day, which I can't say about any other mug I've used. And it's not that small. 14 oz is a decent size.

5-0 out of 5 stars The PERFECT Travel Mug
I have had my Nisson Travel Mug for several years - I use it literally everyday and take it with me everywhere I go - even when I travel (we won't talk about my coffee addiction). My mug is still going strong, absolutely does not leak, and is worth every penny! ... Read more

For easy-sip, no-spill commuting, this thermos offers an ingenious solution. A lever opens the sip-hole with a light squeeze of the fingers. Relax the fingers and the hole closes. Bingo! 5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible, Indestructible Mug
I work for a small town municipal authority as a water system operator and spend most of my days outdoors where the quality of this tumbler has really shined. I used to buy cheap tumblers that would only keep coffee hot for an hour or so, not the four hours I usually get from this one, and the others were constantly drenching me when the 'no spill' lid would pop off. I bought my first Nissan four years ago and still have never found anything better. My original mug has been dropped off of trucks, run over, frozen solid, banged, dented etc. etc. and it still works as well as the day I bought it. Granted after four years the handle broke and I have to push the button but the money I paid for this tumbler would have been spent many times over on replacing inferior models. This product is a lifesaver when I'm working in cold conditions and worth every penny!

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps hot stuff hot for hours
This particular Nissan model keeps cold stuff cold and hot stuff hot for *hours* (which is great if you like to drink your coffee or cocoa slowly over the course of a long meetig or classroom seminar), the plastic rim protects your lips from scalding when you go to drink hot liquids, and the narrow body with the rubber grip makes it easy to hold, even for very small hands. I also like the non-spill lever (note it is NOT a handle, and don't try to hold the cup by the lever!) and it keeps the liquid in the mug for all but the most extreme upturns.
The one downside to this model is keeping it clean--I find I have to wrestle it a bit to clean it. The narrow body sometimes poses a challenge for handwashing, and I usually soak the mouthpiece overnight in soapy water. You do have to pull the white ring out to get it really clean. But, franklyu, most of the commuter mugs require special handling to reduce bacteria build-up. All in all, I think it is a good buy. I've enjoyed drinking my daily coffee out of this model for years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple mod takes this tumbler beyond "Ultimate"
This is a great tumbler. I love it's sturdy construction and how it seals in warmth for so long. My only gripe is that it is a little bit too small for me.

The solution is to put the top from this tumbler on a "Nissan 18-Ounce Stainless-Steel Insulated Travel Tumbler"! These two have the same size threaded tops! Then you can have an 18-ounce tumbler with the "Ultimate"-style spill-proof spring lever top.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for hot and cold.
I would never have believed I'd think so highly of a cup, but I love this tumbler! I mainly use this for my AM coffee, and it stays HOT for about an hour, then warm for another hour. Doesn't seem long, but our usual coffee mugs only kept my coffee hot for about 15 minutes. I love this so much I travel with it. On an overnight flight to Europe, I filled it with iced root beer before boarding. After landing 10 hrs later, although I'd drunk all the soda, the ice cubes hadn't melted yet! This was definitely worth the money (especially since I bought it on sale). I gave one to my brother as a gift, and now his family fights over who gets to use it each day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Got a 2 pack at Costco - Great Mug
I just gave one to my wife for Christmas this morning and has already worked impressively. I see the price everywhere at around $24 but I got a 2 PACK AT COSTCO FOR $19.95. I'm going to go back and buy several more just to have on hand as gifts. Incredible deal!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect
I have lived with this mug for months, now, and I love it. It fits into my car drink holder (which many mugs do not), and I like the lock back device which keeps the drinking hole cover out of your way (I have a beard). The tapered shape and nobby rubber grip feels comfortable and secure in the hand. The cap isn't leak proof, but it screws on tightly enough to prevent spills unless you knock it over, at which point liquid can seep out of the drinking hole.

It really does what it's supposed to do, which is keep my coffee hot. This is especially true if you follow the instructions and rinse the mug with hot water prior to putting the coffee in. It stays hot enough for me much longer than it takes me to drink 18 ounces, although I do not like my coffee scalding hot.

I find that I use this at work and home for a desk mug, as well as using it as a travel mug, as it is easy to carry around, and it has its own rubber coaster on the bottom. It holds a LOT of liquid.

Two minor negatives: You can't microwave it (but you wouldn't need to, would you, unless the coffee was already cold in the pot?), and you can't put it in the dishwasher. I usually rinse it with hot water daily, and give it a hand wash in the sink when it needs it. Note that the outside is stainless, but the inside will stain. I truly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tumbler
I, like many college kids, cannot survive without caffeine of some sort. This tumbler does a great job of insuring that I have hot coffee until I'm done drinking it. Everybody else has commented on its great insulation abilities, but I'd like to add my own experience. I like to have my coffee slightly hot, but not tongue-burning hot. So I always add a couple of ice cubes. Well, I got my coffee to the perfect temperature at 7:30 this morning and headed off to class. I sipped on it all during class and work, and the temperature stayed perfect. When I finished my coffee at 12:30 this afternoon, it was STILL the perfect temperature. Absolutely fabulous.

As for the other features: The outside of the tumbler stays cool to the touch, and the rubber bottom keeps it from slipping around. However, because of it's design, it could tip over if you knock against it. So don't plan on putting this on your dashboard or floorboard of your car or anything like that. It is the perfect width at the bottom to fit into most cupholders. The rubber around the middle of the tumblers makes for an easy non-slip grip, and the top screws on easily and tightly. My only complaint is that the snap top for the sipper hole does not "snap." It just kind of closes, but it isn't securely closed. So, don't go putting it in a briefcase or backpack, because it is likely to leak onto your stuff. I havent actually tried this, though (and I don't plan to), so I could be wrong. Although it isn't spill proof if you hold it upside down or on its side, it is spill proof while you drink. THe rim of the lid is much higher than the base of the lid, so it prevents coffee from spilling all over you while you're sipping it (unless you're an extraordinarily untalented drinker). When you flip the top open, you do need to hold it open or it might flip down onto your nose - this happened to me and I wound up having to wipe drops of coffee off my nose.

It's super easy to clean - just like any other tumbler.

so, overall, I would completely recommend this to anybody who needs a travel tumbler that does keep coffee the perfect temperature. If you need something leak-proof, however, because you plan on putting it into your brief case or something, I would recommend getting a different Nissan thermos.

2-0 out of 5 stars I expected more
First of all, the odd shape prevents it from being used in my cup holders in my car (Honda Civic). It's too skinny and too tall. Secondly, it's not spill proof. I'm not even certain that it's spill resistant. If it tips over you're going to get liquid everywhere.

That being said, it does keep my coffee hot. It's just such an impractical design that I wish I had something else. I've searched and can't find any 18-20oz cups that keep coffee as hot that are also spill proof.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love it, just bought another
Bought one for my spouse. She drinks a lot of tea and she likes it at a certain temperature. She often makes a large mug but then she wears a path back and forth to the microwave keeping the tea hot. She's only been using this Nissan tumbler for a few days, and she loves it. It has changed her whole work patterns and tea drinking experience. Now she can make a large tumbler of tea, enjoy it through the day, and not have to keep running back to the kitchen to heat it up. The one possible down side is the tumbler work too well. If you pour boiling water into the tumbler to make tea, it will TOO hot to drink for a long time. For coffee it would probably be fine, but for tea you need to let the tea cool down before you cap the tumbler. She loves this tumbler, and I just ordered myself one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best tumbler.....period
I've owned two of these for years and they're still as functional as they were when they were new. They've been abused - dropped, washed in the dishwasher, knocked over - and the only difference is the dents that have been caused. They still maintain a tight seal and keep beverages very hot. I've given them as gifts to lots of people and everyone has always been super impressed with their insulation quality. I'll sometimes use a plasitc tumbler outside to save on the abuse my Nissan has taken, but it's not worth having your coffee get cold in 15 minutes - especially in the winter. I'll never buy an insulated tumber other than Nissan!!! ... Read more

Virtually unbreakable, this lightweight, vacuum-insulated thermos travels to work or your favorite recreation spot. On arrival, and for hours afterward, coffee, tea, or soup will still be hot. Or lemonade, pasta salad, or a sports drink will still be chilled. Compact (7 inches high) and shapely, this thermos has a "waist" for firm gripping indented in its satin-finish exterior and tough, nonslip, black plastic top and bottom. There's a choice of two twist tops, one for coffee and another, with a stainless steel strainer, for tea--each has a sip-hole, and a cap twists onto either to prevent spills. Fine threading ensures tops and cap seal tightly, while the smooth interior cleans with sponge or cloth. Preheating or prechilling with hot or cold water is recommended. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great insulation, even brews a nice cup of tea!
This is a great product- leak proof with amazing heat/cold retention. For tea drinkers, I just thought I'd add a better description of how the tea lid works. It is actually not a strainer for leaving the tea leaves in the cup (the tea would be so bitter!), but an ingenious way of brewing tea! You put hot water in the cup, then screw on the strainer, add the loose tea leaves, screw the top lid on, and turn the cup upside down for a quick brew! (Since it is leak-proof, you actually can turn the cup upside down easily) After brewing, you just turn it right side up and replace the strainer holding the spent leaves with the sipping lid, and voila- a quick and pretty decent cup of tea! Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect Tea Mug from a tea mug enthusiast
I own several travel mugs and this has got to be the best tea mug I've ever used. The insulation does keep the tea extremely hot for hours. If you leave the cap off, it does cool a tiny bit, but it'll still be about 2 hours before your beverage is no longer scalding hot and drops to a drinkable temp. The outside is completely cool to the touch even if you have boiling water inside. The mug is also quite durable and the plastic on the bottom and top protects the metal from getting dented should you drop it. There's also a nice groove in the mug for you to wrap your hand around to prevent it from slipping.
The mesh could be finer but the mug is still my favorite. It's the first one I reach for if I'm drinking a hot beverage at any time, even if I'm not traveling. Linger over your cup of hot tea as there's no chance of it going cold before you finish the cup.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I am extremely impressed with the near-flawless performance of this tumbler! Heat or cold retention is EXCELLENT (I've never owned a Thermos Nissan product before, so did not know what to expect, but this thing keeps tea scaldingly hot for hours, and takes several (8+) hours for ice cubes to melt.) The shape of the tumbler is excellent...fits in the hand comfortably. The screw-on "closed" cap is great for sneaking this thing into a library or computer lab without worrying that it'll spill inside your bag on your computer or papers. My ONLY complaint (thus 4 stars) is that the tea strainer is: (1) made of a metal screen instead of nylon mesh, and (2) is not of a fine enough weave. With the way this thing keeps stuff hot, you might take a few hours to drink your tea...and if there's a significant amount of tea dust in it (that slipped through the coarse weave of this tea filter), your tea is going to be quite bitter near the end. (I might install a nylon filter inside the metal screen.) All in all, not a bad purchase at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything is great but the size
This thing is great for making tea and coffee - as advertised. The mug and the tea/coffee-making accessories are very well made and the design is well-thought out. I wish it was a little larger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Years of Daily Use
This baby stays HHHOOOOTTTTT....I love it. You simply can't go wrong if you love your coffee or tea hot for a very a long time. I use it every morning, even bought a spare just in case, but the original is like new after all this time (one little dent, but no leaks). I throw it in the dishwasher every night, never preheat it and it just stays piping hot for hours. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For that second cup you need three or four hours later...
...this is the perfect flask. Small enough to drop into a b-case or carry bag, this bottle is just right and made to last. I bought Nissan's stainless-steel, insulated French Press for making coffee on camping trips and overnights in hotels that lacked decent coffee services. I was so impressed by its design and construction that I jumped at the commuter's bottle here. Glad I did!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes the Trip into Manhattan easier
When I purchased this item, I was skeptical of the results. I've had others that leaked (even though they were leak proof), others that didn't keep my coffee/tea hot for more than 20 minutes, and still others that just weren't big enough to quench my coffee thirst or wake me up. I realized that I needed something new, I needed a larger travel mug that was actually leak proof and kept my drinks hot. I finally found it. The briefcase bottle is large enough to give me hot coffee for the entire 1 hour trip into work. Its refreshing to see steam come out of the top of the lid when I open it up (not like the other poor saps who have luke warm coffee on the train).

Nothing brews coffee or tea better than a French press, but it isn't the most convenient preparation technique, especially for ever-hurried commuters. That's why the Bodum stainless-steel travel press/tumbler is so ideal. Simply add hot water to your freshly ground coffee or whole tea leaves, and you're set. Plunge the press after another four minutes--a process you can employ on the bus, at a stoplight, or in the passenger seat--and you're ready to enjoy coffee or tea brewed in the finest manner. The coffee grounds or brewed tea leaves are safely pinned to the bottom of the mug, so you can slip open the cover to enjoy your beverage. The tumbler's vacuum-insulated, stainless-steel construction also gives it another advantage over traditional glass French presses, as it will preserve the temperature of the beverage for more than an hour. The tumbler includes a santoprene grip that encircles the exterior, letting you handle the press even when the water inside is piping hot, along with a spill-resistant lid. --Rivers Janssen ... This press worked great, but only for about a month. After that the press disc would not stay attached to the end of the plunger when I was pressing...

I love coffee made with the French press method, so I thought this travel press would be great. It was for 3 days. The lid's threads were stripped in 3 days.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Tea
Similar to a French Press, you put some coffee or tea in the bottom of the mug, add water, screw the cap on, wait for your beverage to steep, and push the plunger down to trap the coffee grinds/tea at the bottom of the mug. It keeps beverages hot and fits in my car's cup holder. The bottom is padded with rubber to prevent sliding. Despite the price, it's definitely a mug I'd buy again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lasted longer than my marriage
Noticed this mug while searching online for a French press/travel mug. My wife (soon to be ex-wife) and I bought a pair of these about 14 years ago. Used almost every day, they have performed flawlessly. This is a true vacuumed sealed unit and keeps coffee hot and drinkable about 4 hours with the drinking lid, longer if you use the full cover lid. Mine has been dropped numerous times over the years and has survived well.

In all this time, there are only two drawbacks I can think of. It's diameter, although very stable, it won't fit cup holders in many vehicles. And, if run through the dishwasher, a small amount water will sneak through the little hole in the bottom cover. Not a big deal, but it can dribble out on you while dinking (it can be removed to dry off).

Unlike my wife, this travel mug has remained true to me all these years.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wish it was better..
When it comes to thermal retention, this cup has far surpassed all other thermos mugs I have tried. I am a steady all day coffee drinker so I like to pre-treat my mug with hot water prior to filling it up with the nectar of the gods. I am continually amazed at the cups performance for the 5 years I have owned it.

I do have a gripe..These last couple of years I have noticed that if I thread the sipper lid one way, it leaks significantly. Probably wear on the sealing ring. I thread it for left handed grip but am now suffering the same problems. I just may resign myself to bying a new cup is all.

4-0 out of 5 stars great cup but watch out for the leaks
I drive truck for a living and was always buying coffee in a paper cup. I found I always got heartburn as I had to drink it so fast to enjoy it hot. Then I found this mug. It keeps it warm up to 6 hours. Great... no more heartburn. I ended up buying one for my wife, and my boss bought one for himself and his wife. The only problem is, that as the cup gets older, the seal starts to leak. My first cup is in the cupboard it leaks so bad and I now use my wife's cup. Lately it has started to leak also. I wish you could buy replacement seals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot, stable, and big
I am shopping for a new travel mug as I just left this 7+ year old mug at my kids school and I can't wait for it to turn up somewhere. This mug is absolutely the best. 7 years and no drips, unless the gasket is not seated correctly. I just wish I could have an even bigger mug so I can take more coffee with me in the morning. I'm looking at the bigger Thermos, but I loved this one so much, my decision is a tough one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Worked great for six years!
Unfortunately, I've had it seven. For the past year it's been dribbling into my lap. I wish I could fix it, cause I really liked this mug 'til it started leakin'. It fits the large cupholder in my truck, it's fairly splashproof, and I can even put on the solid lid and carry it in my motorcycle saddlebag. Sip-lid leakage seems to be a common problem, so I'll probably shop for an alternative. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Coolest bottle ever!
As a college student, I am always going from one place to another with my back pack, and carrying water bottles has made a mess and the water didn't stay cool for long. This bottle is awesome because I can carry my drink in the early morning and still drink it cold early at night because the ice cubes I placed in it have yet to melt. I placed the ice cubes in it this morning at 9:30 am. The cubes are still intact and it's 5:50 right now. I drank the drink, but the cubes are still in there and aren't even melted! The outside container does not change temperature, so it stays comfortable to the touch. My car loves it, too, because it doesn't drip or form condensation. And when it rolls over, it rolls over. No drips, no mess. I wish I had this a long time ago, seriously!

5-0 out of 5 stars Slightly Different Use
It doesn't do what I wanted. It does something else even better:

Didn't know about the progress made in recent years at keeping cold, cold and hot, hot. Now I'm totally converted to thermal everything since I purchased a carafe to use as a tea pot and a thermal travel mug for drinking that tea. All day, I have a fresh cuppa, like the first cup in the morning.

I decided to add a piece to the set -- something to keep the milk cold on the counter. I selected the Nissan 1-pint bottle with straw.

As it turned out, this isn't suitable for use with dairy products (or carbonated drinks). But on the day the package arrived from Amazon, I was laid flat with a back problem. This bottle arrived just in time.

It's comfortable to hold, doesn't release condensation onto the tabletop, and it's easy to sip while supine without spilling a drop. I certainly couldn't do that from a regular cup or even a sports-pak plastic bottle without lifting my head which, at the time, wasn't an option.

Just thought I'd mention it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This bottle is my new best friend....
The bottle was one of my "Gold Box" deals; otherwise I may have never seen it and that would have sucked! When I noticed it had a 'permanent' straw, I was convinced to give it a try. I prefer drinking from a straw, even placing straws in soda cans. This bottle is comfortable to hold and never collects condensation on the outside of the bottle to make it slippery! On average, 5-6 medium ice cubes will take approximately 4-6 hours to melt when bottle is refilled with cool water. I drink a lot more water now than ever before! This is a GOOD thing!! The bottle is very easy to clean and the upper straw piece and bottom tube are easily detached and reattached. Mine came with an extra straw set. Although too large for my car's cup holders, I found that I can lay the bottle on it's side in the passenger's seat and it does not drip or leak. You will not believe how cold it can keep your beverage. Great for using when working in the yard under the hot sun. Now I have to get my husband one, too!! You really do want this bottle!! It's GREAT!!

5-0 out of 5 stars great water bottle
based on the previous reviews, I purchased this bottle. I've been using it for a week and can report that this bottle is worth its cost. It does NOT sweat, it fits into my purse, and it keeps ice cubes solid over night. Do not hesitate to purchase this product. I'm thinking about buying one for hot liquids also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brrrrrr!!
I purchased this Thermos because of past experience with Nissan products. I wasn't disappointed either, this thermos keeps things COLD!! I use this by my bedside for those times in the middle of the night when ya feel like something to sip on. I fill it with my favorite beverage (not carbonated) and some ice and when I wake in the morning, the ice is STILL frozen!! Ya just can't ask for anymore than that IMO. I love the feel of it in the hand and the stainless steel construction inside and out makes for one rugged unit.

Sure, I could have spent more but WHY?? This is a great thermos and a very good addition to my hiking supplies.

5-0 out of 5 stars 8-Hour Fizz
I've been using the 1-pint carbonated bottle for a couple of days and its 1-liter big brother for a couple of weeks now, and have found them to be almost perfect for keeping soda cold and fizzy. Fill them up, drop in a single ice cube, and you'll have cold, non-flat soda for at least eight hours. They come with a double screw-top: the smaller top section unscrews for drinking, and the larger (red section in the 1-pint version) for filling and adding ice. Full-size cubes won't fit without some re-sizing, but the slice-shaped product of refrigerator ice-makers fits perfectly. The drink opening is about 3/4" in diameter, while the fill opening is about 1 1/2" wide. The only slight drawback I've encountered is that it takes a couple of tries to completely fill them from a 2-liter Coke bottle because of foaming, but that problem is common to all stainless-steel containers. The top includes a safety gasket, similar to the safety gasket in some pressure cookers, for those who ignore the instructions and leave the bottle out in the hot sun for extended periods with highly-carbonated beverages. Finally, the bottles are intended ONLY for cold beverages, as use with hot beverages apparently can result in leakage and scalding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Bottle!
While looking for a way to have a cold drink without paying obscene prices for water at my university, I stumbled upon this container. At first I did not know what to think about its effectiveness in maintaining a very cold bottle of water, but I purchased it anyway. After receiving the 16-ounce version from Ebay, I quickly realized that my water remained relatively cold for at least 1 day. I was shocked and amazed that such an inexpensive item could maintain such a low temperature for a long period of time. Yet problems occurred. For one, the opening is way too small to fit any kind of regular sized ice cubes, sometimes a metallic taste is observed in the water if not washed for a few days, the rubber around the bottle begins to slip off if you spill water on it (as I have many times trying to aim for that little hole), and finally it is not leak proof. Those are not such grave concerns since I put in extra small ice cubes, try to wash it often, better my aim at small openings, and not keep the bottle upside down. In addition, by not being leak proof I mean that during the day one may notice that the bottle would have some kind of ring of water around the mouth even when closed, but at least the whole thing did not sweat out water just as a regular water bottle would. Nevertheless it is sturdy since I have dropped it several times and have seen no dents or scratches and it is an added bonus for this container to keep soda crisp. For those that want a quick and handy water bottle that is perfect in every way, this is not it, but it comes close. I recommend going for something with a bigger opening and a guarantee to be leak proof, however if the issues above do not seem so dreadful, this bottle will be fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
This bottle is attractive, easy to clean, just the right size and best of all, it REALLY works. Carbonated beverages stay carbonated for hours and hours. The contents stay cold and bubbly for what seems like forever, the outside doesn't sweat and it fits in a car or carseat cup holder. I love it and I will be buying several for gifts. This tumble offers easy-sip, no-spill commuting. Virtually unbreakable, this lightweight, vacuum-insulated thermos travels to work or your favorite recreation spot. On arrival, and for hours afterward, coffee, tea, or soup will still be hot. Or lemonade, iced tea, or a sports drink will still be chilled. It's compact (7-1/2 inches high) and handsome. A band of soft, nonslip black rubber encircles the tapered, satin-finish exterior, ensuring a firm grip. Top and bottom are black plastic. Fine threading ensures the twist top seals tightly, while the smooth interior cleans with sponge or cloth. Preheating or prechilling with hot or cold water is recommended. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Without a doubt, the best travel mug ever made
I have owned many travel mugs, and most of them ended up in the garbage can. The Nissan travel mug is, without a doubt, the best one I have ever owned. It is worth every penny of its selling price. It will keep your coffee hot for hours.

4-0 out of 5 stars only a little drippy
I've had my Nissan 14-Ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Travel Tumbler for going on six years now. I've dropped it, come close to running over it with our truck, taken it camping with me nearly everywhere I've gone, and filled it with nearly every consumeable liquid imagineable. Through it all, it has only gotten one dent (completely my fault) and the gripping strip in the middle of the cup has started to lose a little of its ability to "stick" or stay in place on the metal.

In terms of its ability to keep hot things hot and cold things cold, I'm utterly impressed. Following the directions for prewarming with hot water, I've had freshly brewed coffee burn my mouth more than 4 hours after being placed in the mug (geographically, Houghton Michigan to Mackinaw City Michigan, USA was my test run area). I suspect if I'd not opened the mug up to drink anything, it would have kept hot for a good deal longer (but I'm a coffee addict, so I haven't been able to wait any longer to test this theory). If you're going to make tea, consider making some using the no-string bags instead of the standard string-attached bags. It's possible to brew your tea with the string still on, but it's a little tough to screw the lid back on with it hanging out and to be honest, it opens you up for a second source of leakage. There's no metallic aftertaste in what you drink, a frequent problem with cheaper mugs, and the taste of your drink doesn't linger in your mug after proper cleaning. If your spouse doesn't like coffee but you do, you can easily share this mug without residual flavors leaking in to whatever you're drinking.

I only have three complaints about this version of the Nissan mug, and two are about the latching mechanism. First, the flip-latch leaks a bit. I like the fact that the flip-latch is easy to open and close with one hand. It's very useful if you're in the middle of negotiating rush hour while driving a manual transmission automobile. However, other mugs offer a sort of pressure-related leak-proof seal. This one does not and the flip-latch results in leakage if the cup tips over while you turn or if it somehow manages to fall on its side. The leakage isn't much, to be honest, but it's enough to require cleanup.

My second latch complaint is personal. If the liquid sloshes inside my mug and there's a small amount on the flip-latch when I open it to take a sip, I invariably end up wearing a small dot of liquid on the end of my nose. It's not a horribly long nose or even oddly shaped, but the latch touches it just enough that I sometimes look rather foolish if anyone is watching me drink.

My third complaint is about the shape of the cup. Aesthetically the design is very pretty and the brushed aluminim easy to clean, doesn't show fingerprints, and is darn near scratch proof if you don't drag it along rough pavement. However, the bottom of the mug doesn't fit into any cup holder in my car. It fits well enough in my truck cup holder. But in my car, it's just big enough that the stable, non-slip base padding makes it just a bit too large to fit. I end up wedging the cup between my legs while driving or setting it on the dashboard and praying I don't have to make any sudden movements or sharp turns. A slightly narrower bottom would fix this problem quite handily.

Wishfully thinking, I would have liked to see this mug have a handle. The middle grip strip is very nice and the whole mug feels comfy in your hand, but I like the choice of a handle. And as luck would have it, Nissan has another model with just such a feature. If you like a handle on your mug, consider getting that model instead. I'll be sticking with mine for a little while longer, though.

5-0 out of 5 stars ordering another one
I've had this mug for several years and it's by far the best travel mug i've had. It's narrow enough to fit in my wife's terrible cupholders on her VW, and heavy enough to not tip easily. It absolutely has never spilled a drop in the many years I have been carrying it. I'm getting a spare because my wife is jealous. :)

3-0 out of 5 stars looking for a better tumbler
I've owned this tumbler for several years and I ready to replace it for several reasons. The primary reason is that I'm tired of coffee dripping down my nose. If coffee splashes on the flip-top lid while closed, you unwittingly get a blob of coffee on your face when you go to take a drink. The flip-lid is also not that secure, and the entire lid is getting increasingly difficult to screw on correctly. I also find it hard to unscrew once it is secure. It keeps drinks very hot or cold, so I've haven't any complaints there. It looks as if some newer models have better lid designs.

5-0 out of 5 stars great tumbler
I keep this in my office for tea. I find the 14oz capacity perfect for 1 teabag. It keeps the tea hot for hours. When I first got this tumbler, I made the mistake of brewing tea at 4pm, I didn't take a sip since, and when I am to leave work around 6, the tea was still too hot to handle!

Cleaning can be a bit troublesome due to the rubber ring, but since I don't use any dairy in my tea, I just deep clean it once a week. ... Read more

Printed on the insulated, virtually unbreakable, plastic carafe of this Frenchpress coffeemaker is the slogan "Give up bad coffee for good!" 5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible
I bought this to use in the car if I'm running late and don't have time for coffee at home, but I love it so much I use it all the time. The coffee is great, and I haven't had any of the problems some other people have had - the coffee keeps very hot, there are no leaks, etc. If you just need a single cup of coffee and don't want to be bothered putting on a pot, this is perfect. It's great for traveling, too - I throw it in my bag with enough coffee for the trip and no longer have to worry about insipid hotel coffee. I'll be buying another one as my husband has started using it for tea, so it's useful for that, too. All in all, one of the best impulse buys I ever made.

I'm editing my review several months later to add some tips for those having problems. You don't need to screw the top on tightly, in fact if you do it will leak. Just turn until it stops. Also, I would suggest not cleaning the plastic container in the dishwasher as the very hot water can make it crack, even on the top shelf. The press itself is dishwasher safe. Last, make sure to use a coarse enough grind of coffee, otherwise it is difficult to press.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed
I was looking for a small french press and a travel mug so I wouldn't have to deal with a coffee maker, filters etc. in the morning and saw this. Perfect. Even less steps and clean up. I had no problem with the lid leaking and it kept the coffee nice and hot. Once the press was down there was no leakage back into the main cup, my main concern. I even turned it over once I finished my coffee to test the seal and the press kept all the grinds and liquid in place. No problems using this as a true travel mug.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sucks
Used this for about a week. There is a big design flaw in this product. When you add hot water, it tends to crack. The coffee gets between the layers. I mean a lot of coffee gets through the smallest crack. Couldn't even brew half a cup. Also don't try adding milk or sugar to the coffee in the tumbler. Sugar falls right to the bottom and you can't stir it, because the plunger bar is in the middle. Since I bought mine at a small store, I had to send multiple e-mails to Denmark or Sweden, wherever the hell their located. I brought the e-mail to the Bodum store that clearly said "Bring this to the store and we will refund your money. The moron at the store was like "well I can't refund it", I had to fight with the guy for 15 minutes pointing and pointing to the e-mail that says "refund the money" of course I can understand as this was just another person working retail until he got his big acting break. Love/Hate relationship with NYC. Nobody is who they think their not. Bottom line, Travel Mug is S%*t

4-0 out of 5 stars Just the ticket for a single serving of coffee on the go
I used to use a single serving glass coffee press but got tired of washing it everyday. I now own five of these, one for every work day. It's perfect for a single serving of good coffee on the go. And, owning five of them means I can rinse it out and wash them all in a full dishwasher at the end of the week.

I have used these presses for a couple of years now and have gone through a number of sets of them. They've lasted roughly a year or, sometimes, longer for me before finally cracking. The chance of cracking from adding boiling water can be greatly diminished by (as the directions say) adding a small amount of the boiling water and waiting a bit before continuing to fill the cup. Using course ground coffee minimizes chances of getting loose gounds floating in the coffee but it can also sometimes happen if you insert the plunger at an angle. I've never had any of the lids leak except when, on ocassion, I found I hadn't screwed on the lid completely. Finally, cleaning them in the dishwasher sometimes allows moisture to enter between the walls of the cup through the lip but this doesn't seem to cause any problems.

I would recommend the Bodum Travel Press, though if you plan on only using one of them on a daily basis, you may be better off with a more durable glass press and a regular go-cup.

2-0 out of 5 stars Grounds in my coffee..
I found this item be of lesser quality than I expected. I do not recommend drinking directly from the press becasue it leaves grounds in the coffee. In order to avoid drinking coffee grounds, pour the coffee through a strainer and drink it out of a separate cup. ... Read more

The Aerolatte Travel coffee press performs several functions at the same time. First, it brews coffee with a simple plunger action like a French press. Secondly, it has a tight-fitting lid with a no-spill drinking aperture for taking coffee on the road. Lastly, its insulated walls act like a thermos to keep coffee hot. (Incidentally, this last function addresses a common complaint about French press pots, which are usually made of glass and do not conserve heat well.) This is a great small gift for an avid coffee drinker.

The Aerolatte Travel coffee press is made from brushed stainless steel with a sturdy foot, lid, and handle. Its double-thick walls are insulated to keep coffee hot with a swiveling lid cover that opens for sipping and also helps conserve heat. A rubber seal around the edge of the plunger screen keeps sediment out of coffee. When not in use, the plunger handle lies almost flush to the lid.

The press's plunger unscrews from the lid for easy cleaning. Plunger, lid, and mug are all safe for the dishwasher. The 12-ounce coffee press stands 5 inches tall and has a 3-1/4-inch diameter (5 inches including the handle). The no-spill lid is not watertight and will leak if turned upside down, so exercise caution with hot beverages. An instruction sheet for using the coffee press is included. --Garland Withers ... Ingenious in design, this little thermos not only can be filled with hotor cold beverages, it's also the perfect size to insulate a can of soft drink, beer, or other beverage. In addition to keeping the can's contents cold, itrenders the can furniture-safe. Because the double-walled, stainless-steelvacuum construction prevents condensation from collecting on the outside, itwon't leave wet rings behind, and its nonslip bottom won't scratch a surface. The thermos also eliminates the annoyance of searching for a sippinghole--that's because the lid (recessed to prevents spills) is completely ringedby little holes so you can sip from any angle without looking.
