Amazon.com Review

Grilling really can't get much easier than this. After assembling the grill (which takes only a few minutes), simply plug it in and allow about 10 minutes to fully preheat the surface while you gather your steaks, kebabs, or whatever's to be grilled. The electric heat has an adjustable range from low (for keeping food warm) to high (for searing steaks). The nonstick grill surface not only means you can use a minimum of added fat, but it also makes cleanup a cinch. The surface has a subtle slope, with channels that draw accumulated fat or other liquids into a tray just below the surface. The high domed and vented lid helps create a circular flow of hot air to ensure even cooking--particularly important for a large roast or whole chicken.

The grill can be placed either directly on a tabletop or atop its pedestal. On its own, the grill surface stands about 6 inches high; with the pedestal, it stands about 2-1/2 feet high, not counting the domed lid. The pedestal is plenty sturdy for cooking, but the grill still seems a bit top-heavy, so pay special attention if grilling in a high-traffic area or near kids. Because of the easy electric heat, this grill can be used outdoors or indoors--when using it indoors, though, be prepared for potential spattering, steam, or other side effects of cooking. --Cynthia Nims ... Features

  • Grill top measures 17 inches across for generous cooking capacity
  • No-fuss grilling made easy, for use indoors or outside
  • Grill can be used on pedestal (stands about -1/2 feet high) or on tabletop
  • Uses electric heat, with adjustable range from low to high
  • Sloping grate base draws fat away from food to collect in easy-to-empty tray

5-0 out of 5 stars backup grill
Originally I saw my mother's George Forman grill (smaller indoor one with lid). Then I saw my brother's Party Size grill. Both of them love their grill. I was able to taste the food from both and found it very tasty and easy to use. I decided to do some investigating on my own intending to purchase the party size grill, when I saw the indoor/outdoor grill. I was impressed with the fact that it appeared to be a bigger cooking surface and the price I found was within reason. I purchased it for the purpose of using it as an extra grill for a cookout I was having. No one used the gas grill at all. I have since used it indoors without the stand, making it convient on rainy days. It is the easiest grill to use and clean that we have ever owned. You can cook everything evenly, because there are no coals to level out. It can easily hold 4 to 5 steaks, 10 big hamburgers, and the list goes one. I am sure there are some drawbacks to those that swear by gas/charcoal grills, but my gas grill has found a permanent residence in our shed, while George sits ready to use at any time indoors or out on our back porch. I am so impressed, that I am purchasing one for my parents for Christmas, to replace the charcoal grill that takes for ever to heat up and messy to clean. I'm sure they'll love it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars No-fuss barbecuing!
Until last weekend, I was barbecue-challenged. I had a Weber charcoal grill that was almost never used, because I could never figure out how to grill a steak (or anything else) to perfection. I never knew how much charcoal to use, or when it was hot enough, and hated the messy cleanup afterwards. Then one Sunday I saw a flyer in the newspaper from a department store that was advertising the George Foreman indoor/outdoor electric grill for sale at only [money amount], plus there was a 20% off coupon. I read reviews of it at Amazon.com, and decided that there wasn't too much risk in buying it. The instruction booklet includes general guidelines on how long to cook different types of food, and what heat setting. My first evening, I grilled some swordfish, and it was absolutely delicious. The next evening, I grilled lamb chops, and these too were superb. Clean up was so easy since the grill is non-stick -- no spent charcoals to throw away! No need to buy propane gas! Just unplug! I think that even my husband, who has never cooked anything in his life, can learn to use it. The surface is large enough that you can cook for friends. I'm looking forward to barbecuing every weekend, even in winter! The only very minor negative: unlike a charcoal or gas grill, it can't be used in case of power failure (as we had in the Washington DC area recently after a storm).

5-0 out of 5 stars George is right. It actually does what he claims it will do!
I bought this grill 4 months ago and have used it several times per week ever since. I am a very lazy cook with 3 hungry teens and a hubby who eats like he's a heavyweight boxer. So, I needed something that would cook and clean-up as easily as possible. I can turn on the grill (it has an adjustable thermostat), take out a package of frozen chicken, hamburger patties, whatever, prepare it as usual, and the grill is ready to go to work. Dinner is on the table in no time. Its non-stick surface is just that, making clean-up simple and quick.
I am quite happy with the surface area, as I can easily fit 8 large burgers on at once. I live in the frozen north, so the fact that this grill will also work indoors is plus.
It's portable, reliable, easy to use and clean, and a bargain compared to other outdoor grills.
George put his name on a very good product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Someone please explain...
...who designed this grill and the packaging. I haven't seen anything better. Ever. My only complaint about this item is that the temp. control knob gets pretty warm when the unit is used for extended periods (but that doesn't happen too often - if it did I'd have gotten a bigger BBQ). That's it. Everything else about this unit is excellent. Cooks great, cleans great, stores great.

5-0 out of 5 stars fast food
We just got this indoor/outdoor grill and couldn't wait to try it. We just tossed on whatever was around -- leftover fried chicken, vidalia onions, cauliflour, and a zucchini. In as long as it took to pull out some dishes and set the table, a hot, fat-free (well maybe not the chicken) dinner was ready. If this is what we can expect from this grill, we're completely happy with it. Cleanup was a breeze. Tomorrow we'll try raw fish or chicken for fast food the way we like it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Champion of Grills
You will not find a better indoor grill anywhere at any price. This grill with its removable grilling plates that can be tossed in your dishwasher is the best of the rest. It has a sleek design, plenty of room for burgers; with its floating hinge you can cook steaks and chops too. The grilling plates come off and reinstall very easily. If you liked the earlier Foreman grills for the way they cooked, you have to buy this one for the ease of cleaning. You can enjoy your favorite foods grilled all year long!

5-0 out of 5 stars Removeable Grill Plates Makes Cleanup Very Easy!
I had the old small George Foreman grill and I liked how food came out using it but since the grill plates weren't removeable cleanup was a chore so when I found out about a George Foreman grill with removeable grill plates I immediately set out to get one and I'm really happy that I now own this grill, it is not the one with the timer but I really didn't need that anyway and I'm just happy that I can take the grills out and wash them in the sink and I just feel it is more sanitary then the old grill and not being able to put it in the sink and give it a proper clean I worried about bacteria buildup but now with this new grill I just take the grill plates out and wash them in the sink and cleanup is a breeze and I don't worry about bacteria and I very highly recommend this grill!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Knock Out Punch
This is the best grill out. It is so easy to clean which was my major complaint with the old Geroge Foreman grills. I had the old one but almost never used it because of the inconvenience with cleaning the cooking surface. Since purchasing the GRP4 I now eat at least one meal a day cooked on it. Now the only fast food I eat is cooked on this grill! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This smaller version of George Foreman's famous "as seen on TV" Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine is perfect for preparing quick, low-fat meals for one or two people. The double-sided grill surface heats in less than five minutes to an even temperature perfect for grilling most foods. The high grill grooves and slight angle allow fat to run off the grill as food cooks, and the nonstick surface requires little or no additional fat for cooking. The plastic, grooved spatula works well to scrape off any bits that may have stuck to the surface.

Meats and fish are the obvious choices to take advantage of the Grilling Machine's fat-reduced grilling, but vegetables and tofu dogs work well too. The double-sided grill means food cooks twice as fast, leaves attractive grill marks, and generates surprisingly little smoke. --Julija Gelazis ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The George Foreman Grill really does "cut the fat" from food
This is easily the best "As Seen On TV" product ever made (I'd like to see Ronco top this marvelous machine). As I am writing this review, I am eating boneless skinless chicken breasts that were made on the George Foreman "Champ" Grill". They are so good that words cannot describe how good they are...just sprinkle some "Mrs. Dash 'Table Blend'" on the chicken breasts before you cook them, put them on the grill, and have a great chicken dinner (only other thing you have to do is find something to go along with the chicken [maybe some white rice]). Cleanup is so easy it's ridiculous! The nonstick surface allows you to clean the grill surface with a soft clean cloth or sponge (dampened with warm water, of course), and the drip tray can go in the dishwasher. Just yesterday I prepared some turkey burgers (from Wampler Foods) on the grill, and it is amazing how much fat will be drained from turkey burgers (even though turkey meat has less fat that ground beef [which is what hamburger patties are made of], it still has fat). The George Foreman Grill really does "cut the fat" from food!

5-0 out of 5 stars "As Seen on TV" and really works!!
I got my first George Foreman grill when I was in college and living in a dorm. It is a GREAT tool for students especially, because it allows you to make all sorts of chicken, steak, burgers and other food on a "grill" right from your dorm room (or dorm kitchen). It really is a lifesaver!

I'm out of college now, and I bought the bigger version of the George Foreman grill! It's GREAT about cutting the fat, as most of the grease drains off in to an easy to clean plastic container. The plastic container can go in the dishwasher, and the grill itself has a really good nonstick surface which cleans easily with a damp sponge or rag.

It also cooks pretty fast, quicker than a conventional grill I think. I cook a few chicken breasts on it in about 10-15 minutes (depending on how big they are), and it heats up super fast - so no worrying about charcoal and starting fires! It's insanely easy to use, teenagers and slightly younger kids could probably use it with no problem. I highly recommend this grill - it's worth every cent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great grill, wish I had a larger version
I have used this machine a couple dozen times now, and with great success. Fish, burgers, egglplant, greenbeans, chicken breast...
-- Meat, cooked from both sides, is done very quickly (Ignore the hamburger packaging that tells you to cook for ten minutes)
-- You'll enjoy watching the excess fat drip into the small drip-tray instead of sticking to a metal cooking pot that you'd have to scrub clean later.
-- Eggplant came out soft and delicious. Green beans were crispy and juicy.
-- There are no temperature settings. There is not even an on/off switch. Plug it in to pre-heat & cook, unplug it when you're finished. The only thing you need to control is the timer on your microwave. (I overcooked tuna steaks when I first got this grill, so that they were a little dry. Since then, I have learned to shorten the cooking time).
-- Cleanup: the best part. Clean with a wet paper towel or damp sponge. Especially easy while still warm. Use NO abrasives. (I use nothing other than the water that dampens the paper towel.
-- Smoke: Yes, there is a bit of smoke and steam that escapes, especially when I'm cooking beef & I lift the grilltop to add more seasoning. I usually grill by the window, so it's not a problem.
-- Size: the one drawback. If you're cooking for two, it's not easy to cram more than hamburger patty on this thing. Consider a larger one.
-- Price: note that there's a special shipping fee. The total price was still lower than that offered at my local store, though.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst for your money
You have to chop up food to a tiny portion. You can't closed the lid even if you only have a small amount of food on this grill, and you can cook a better tasting food on your frying pan then on this grill. It does get some fat out but not all. The drip catching tray is very small, so you may have to move it to adjust it. The plastic cheap looking scrapter does really nothing to get the food off. I ended up taking mine back to the store. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY AWESOME FOR THE COOKING IMPAIRED
I dont cook. Boiling water is a major project for me. Therefore the george foreman grill has been a real Godsend. I love my cheeseburgers and was forced to take whatever the fastfood restaurants were dishing out. Now i have CHOICE in what level of fat is in my cheeseburgers, thanks to the george foreman grill. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I remember
It looks like the waffle maker that my mom used for all those wonderful breakfasts growing up. I've had the waffle maker for almost a year now, and after another disappointing round of waffles this weekend, I had to submit a review.
I'd agree with other reviewers that the unit does not get hot enough. I've tried several different waffle recipes, including good ole mom's and each time the waffles are flat as pancakes and soft. I've given up trying to cook pancakes, even with the heat turned up full blast, they never brown.
I've always been a fan of this type of waffle maker, but based on my experiences, I'll be looking for a Belgium waffle maker and stick with my stovetop griddle for pancakes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap piece of junk
First off, it's a GRIDDLE and waffle baker, not a grill. And second, it's so poorly made that it's frightening to use. Mine fell apart while it was burning hot the first time I used it. I wish I hadn't wasted my money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Hard to Find Waffle Iron!
It is increasingly difficult to find waffle irons made with stainless steel and that can actually make more than one waffle at at time, which you need for a family. I couldn't find a place to rate the seller, so I hope this will do. I am very pleased with the product and the transaction!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best quality...
My mother has had her B&D Wafflemaker for years and it's fantastic. She bought me this one as a gift, but I have to say the quality is not nearly as good as it used to be. The chrome is very thin and the plates don't always line up easily and lock snugly into place. I had to bend the clips in the front so they wouldn't touch each other and cause the plates to come loose.

I don't agree with other reviewers that it doesn't get hot enough or bake waffles well. As long as you have a good recipe and keep them in long enough (until they stop steaming) then they will come out crisp and yummy. I don't recommend the receipe that comes with the unit- the batter is too thin. I have also used the griddle side for grilled cheese and it worked fine. Be sure to season your plates well before trying to use jellies or cheese on them.

All in all the wafflebaker works well, but the quality could be much better (especialy for the price!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and clean- Try a Grilled Ham & Cheese!
This product has been so much fun in the kitchen and works great. Grill 4 sandwiches at once. Oh boy are they GOOD! Easy to remove grilling plates make clean up a snap. (Very important for that melted Cheese over the edge!) Makes 4 waffles at a time. This is not a product to let your children use. The outside lovely chrome surfaces get extremely hot when in use and take a while to cool off after use. Try a Black & Decker citrus juicer if the kids want to help. They will enjoy that very much, and you'll have fresh juice to go with your waffles! :-) ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This commercial-style panini grill is the only one that makes restaurant-quality pressed sandwiches and also grills meats for healthy, low-fat dinners. The Uno panini grill has a large 11-by-9-inch grilling surface that can press about four large panini sandwiches made on the traditional Italian foccacia or ciabatta bread, sear four boneless chicken breasts, or grill four servings of vegetables. The cooking surface heats up quickly and stays hot because of its cast aluminum construction and because the heating element is embedded directly beneath the grill top and bottom. For safety, a red light comes on when the appliance is plugged in and remains on for the duration of your cooking time. An adjustable control offers seven different cooking temperatures and a green light illuminates when the appliance has reached the desired heat.

The plastic handle stays cool during cooking and pushes straight down, as on a professional panini grill. The floating top adjusts to any thickness of sandwich so you can feel free to stuff your paninis full of meats, cheeses, and veggies. The ribbed grill plate imprints the typical marks onto meats or bread and, for healthier cooking, drains any fats from meats into the grooves and out of a side spout to a waiting grease tray. A high-quality nonstick coating on the cooking plates ensures that food lifts off easily and that the Uno panini grill is easy to clean.

While the high-polish aluminum exterior on this appliance is beautiful and durable, it also heats up to the same temperature as the grill’s interior. The plastic-coated handle offers some protection from the heat, but cooks still must exercise caution to prevent burns from the lid or sides of the handle. The Uno panini grill stands upright for storage but is still fairly large and heavy so cooks will want to ensure that they have adequate space for it.This product is covered by VillaWare under a full one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great for panini, not as good for meats
I have owned this Villaware Uno Panini Grill for about a month, and use it constantly. I bought it as a George Foreman substitute, and use it primarily for chicken, fish, and burgers. Although it does a very good job on all of those meats, I have spent an inordinate amount of time cleaning this machine. With meat, as opposed to a sandwhich, cleanup is a bit more involved, and since you can't get some of it wet - complications arise. Could someone please invent a machine just like this one, but with removable grill plates?

The other thing to be aware of is the temperature gage. Paninis seem to require a hotter surface, while meats sear instantly on the lowest temp. Be careful with steaks if you like them rare to med-rare. It is easy to overcook them. At times, i'd like to slow down the cooking a little, but this is not really a major problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars BEST for sandwiches
I had lusted after this little baby for some time and finally bought it when I found a great deal on it. It makes the most amazing sandwiches, which you can custom-tailor to your tastes. I also used it for a rolled flank steak, stuffed with mushrooms and cut into thick slices. Each slice cooked perfectly at medium heat, although like all steaks, it requires a watchful eye to prevent overcooking.

My experience with vegetables was similarly good. Peppers, onions, eggplant slices all cook in minutes with good result. I have not tried chicken breasts, but from reading the other reviews, imagine that the results will be similar.

One negative: fish can be a tricky business on this grill. I cooked an ahi steak for only a few minutes and it was overdone. I bought a stovetop grill pan specifically for fish after that (well, I confess I do throw a little bacon on it too from time to time).

I am quite satisfied with this panini grill, and love my homemade paninis. I found that a sliced kaiser or hoagie roll works well, as well as thickly sliced Italian or sourdough bread. My favorite sandwich?: thickly sliced bread, olive tapenade, roasted red pepper slices and sliced fontina. Who said heaven isn't right here?

3-0 out of 5 stars Design Flaws = Dried Out Food
In this sturdy and heavy panini grill -- appearing to be from the same factory as the similar Krups unit -- I wish to point out some design problems:

The VillaWare #2160 Uno Panini Grill no only cooks quickly, but more importantly, it cooks with almost no fat. The bottom grill is slanted so that fat drips off the surface. This may sound good at first to some low-fat eaters, but this feature leads to quickly cooked, dried-out foods -- meats and fish in particular.

Additionally, the grill is NOT easy to clean as others have claimed. The experts at a local cookware shop warned about this problem, and even encouraged me to purchase another Italian unit instead. The scraper that comes with the VillaWare is essential, but the scraper doesn't do a complete job of penetrating the grooves, leaving one to spend additional time trying to remove fat and food residues from the bottom grill side. I finally lifted this heavy machine above a sink, and carefully sloping it in a particular fashion, sprayed water across its surfaces to loosen the built up substances on it. Probably not recommended, but a necessary procedure in this user's judgement. The top grill's slots are not as deep and therefore easier to clean with a wet wrag.

The Krups unit has more shallow grills, which are level, leaving the cooking oils that you have applied to the food before grilling, on the surface of the grill. This allows moisture to be retained in the food because the outside surfaces can be seared with a bit of fat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Want an awesome kitchen gadget??
I pondered buying a Foreman grill until my eye caught sight of this baby. I compared the two grills and by far the Villaware is a better quality grill. I have other Villaware gadgets and this unit is built the with the same high quality standards. I looked no further and bought it on the spot. What an amazing little grill! Yes, it makes great (make that fantastic) panini, but it does so much more. I grilled marinated chicken breast and it cooked them so fast (to my amazement) that I overcooked them. Now that I am aware of the cooking speed, chicken breast comes out juicy. It seers in the juices, so unless you don't pay attention (as I did), it is hard to screw up. Don't underestimate the power of this grill!

Cleaning is a snap - yes, it has that handy dandy comb which does a great job cleaning. What I find very helpful is to pour some hot tap water over the grill once you're done cooking and have unplugged the unit. It loosens the residue and makes the final cleaning extremely easy. This grill shares top billing with my Kitchen Aid and Magic Mill.

The unit is sharp looking and slick. It has a lock on the cover which allows the unit to be stored on end. It takes up very little counter space (yes, I like to look at it all the time..). The fact that it doesn't have a power switch is not an issue for me. In fact I consider it a safety feature (hence the 5 stars). It is also quite heavy and sturdy.

My favorite panini (so far that is....) is from Lidia's Italian-American show. Take a can of tuna packed in olive oil, a can of chick peas drained and lightly smashed, ½ chopped onion, salt, pepper and some additional olive oil. Mix it all together, spread between thick slices of Italian bread and grill in the mighty Villaware. Delizioso...... Buon appetito!

5-0 out of 5 stars NICE!!
This has got to be the best grill out! I just about bought a Foreman grill, until I happened across this grill in a store. I quickly rushed home to see how it was reviewed on Amazon, and to check Amazon's price.
I used to work at a store that had a deli that made Paninis, and ate them all the time. Love em, love em, love em!
I've had it for 2 months, and still use it 3-4 times a week.
Once you buy this, you will never eat another "regular" sandwhich again!
It's easy! All you do is make your favorite sandwhich while the maker is heating up, spray with a little bit of olive oil (or whatever oil you like), and put your sandwhich in the grill, pushing down on the sandwhich every once in a while to create that melding of the flavors I love so..... mmmmm...
Oh, and what sandwhich isn't made better by bacon!?! It literally takes less than a minute for bacon to cook (just make sure you've got your drip tray in place), and it comes out perfectly flat and ready to put on your sandwhich.
Plus! Look how much cheaper it is to eat sandwhiches made at home, rather than those you buy at McRonald's or BurgerStink. Now, not only is it cheaper, but it tastes soooo much better!!!
Words of advise:
*Make sure temperature selector is at highest setting for the best paninis.
*Wait until after you've grilled your sandwhich before adding stuff like tomatoes, lettuce, or other stuff you don't want to get soggy- they will be heated, too (although, I happen to like the way the lettuce tastes after it's been cooked with the sandwhich).
*Oh-my-gosh, these sandwhiches taste sooo much better with thinly sliced RED onions, red wine vinegar, deli style mustard, and the new fancy smancy mayonases (such as the chipolte or sun dried tomato).
*Use a good bread. I like to get a nice loaf of Italian and slice it on a bias, so as to get a longer sandwhich. The bread will smush down, so I like to cut the slices a little thicker, also. Plus, if you use a crusty bread, it just adds that "little extra" to it.

Well, what are you waiting for!?! You'd be a fool not to get a panini maker! LOL! I almost slapped down a wad of cash (20-30 more than this one, bought at Amazon) on one of the Foremans, but this does all they can do, plus makes THE BEST sandwhiches! We used to eat at the fast food places all the time, but we haven't been to one since we bought this! Even scrubway!! 6 grams of fat?? I can do better than that with tons more flavor!
I haven't seen a better price than on Amazon, either. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Grilling burgers, chicken, fish, steaks, and Italian-style sandwiches (panini) with no fuss or mess is easy with this handsome, chrome-clad, countertop grill. The top and bottom grilling plates make cooking twice as fast as in a pan, impart appetizing grill marks, and, with their nonstick coating, release food easily and wipe clean with a cloth.Key to the grill's professional performance is a floating hinge system that automatically adjusts to a food's thickness for even grilling top and bottom. The grill's handle stays cool during operating, indicator lights show when the grill is on and when the proper cooking temperature has been reached, and the latch locks for compact, upright storage. The grill carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Krups Panini machine is the Greatest!!!
I love this machine. It's hot, it's fast, and it makes the crunchiest thin sandwiches in minutes. I use the olive spray on the outsides, and either ham, turkey or chicken slices, or grilled veggies, all with a little cheese on the insides. Thin tomato slices with some mozzerella and basil leaves are also great as well as a little brie with just about anything. Use your imagination. I like the idea of the small, gourmet style sandwiches for today's eating. The flatter the bread, the better but the pain rustique bread at Costco works quite well too. Just measure each slice about 2 1/2 inches wide, cut it in half horizontally and fill. Or the straight grilled slices make great crostini and I just top it with an olive spread or a tomato, garlic and basil bruschetta, or a tuscan white bean spread with rosemary. Make them any size you wish. Guests love them with a nice Chianti either for an appetizer or a snack. I will keep my grill for panini and not use it for meat. It's easy to clean; I usually wipe it with a paper towel. It's truly a quality piece of work and I'm totally satisfied with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 Steaks, 7 minutes.
I got my Krups grill for Christmas, I have wanted one for quite awhile. It makes perfect panini, and grilled cheese, but last night for New Year's eve we tried 2 bacon wrapped (1 1/4 inch thick) beef tenderloins. My rule of thumb with steaks (rare to medium rare)is about 3 minutes per side at VERY high heat. I have a Weber Genesis grill (outside of course) and in about 15 minutes it can reach over 500 degrees. Unfortunately this Krups does not come with any recipes (Other than the non-Krups, but delightful cookbook that does come with it.) so there is some guess work involved. But since it does also get VERY hot, and since the lid (Unlike George F's plastic) is HEAVY, I figured
about 3.5 minutes for the steaks. They turned out perfect!
Perfect crossed grill marks, just make sure you preheat until the light goes out.
I highly recommend this product, even considering the one
voice that expressed concern about the lack of a grease drain.
I will just not cook foods with high grease. Simple.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hot Panini
This grill was a recent purchase after returning from a trip to Italy. While the grill heated quickly, I did make contact with the hot side of the top handle (Ouch).
The sandwich prepration and grilling went realitively smooth. To cleanup the grill when done was a challenge. When I cleaned the top grill plate, most food particles fell to the counter top. The lower grill plate proved to be even more challenging. There is no way to remove the lower grill plate, so I placed the grill on it's side to let the food that was cleaned off drop to paper towels placed on the counter.
I will probably use it only for sandwich making, I cannot posibly foresee grilling meat in it and trying to remove the resedue from the bottom of the grill.
Instructions on how to prepare other foods such as meat and fish with this universal grill were zero.

2-0 out of 5 stars Loved it, but mysteriously dead
I have owned this panini grill for about 9 months and used it regularly. I loved every sandwich and grilled meat that I cooked in it. But one Saturday, I plugged it in as usual to make my favorite grilled cheese and it was dead, although it had worked perfectly well the day before.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GRILL!
After reading the reviews I decided to buy this panini maker.
I just got it 2 days ago and I have already used it 4 times. It makes great paninis, quesadillas and grilled cheese sandwiches in minutes. My only complaint is that the handle was cracked at both ends. Because it is heavy I don't feel like paying to send it back. The cracks do not affect the performance but it it a little annoying. Not sure if it is because Amazon did not package it well or if it was the manufacturer's fault. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gotta have it!
I got the George Foreman Contact Roaster for a Mother's Day gift. I love kitchen gadgets and could not wait to add this one to my collection. The first thing I cooked in it was the egg casserole (recipe in the booklet) and it turned out great. The second thing I made was a 3 lb. chicken. The aroma as it cooked was amazing. It was moist, tender and juicy. It took an hour and a half to cook. I would suggest NOT to line your roaster with sliced onions as I did to enhance the flavor of the chicken. The onions carmelized, then burned and got stuck in the drip hole. It was not very easy to clean that out. The roaster is also a bit small. I wish I would have requested the larger model as we are a family of 4 (soon to be 5) and I can see us outgrowing this appliance long before it wears out. I love to create recipes and cannot wait to see what I am able to concoct to cook in this roaster. It is very versetile and does not heat up the kitchen. It is smaller than the crock pot I used to have, and I probably will never buy another seeing how much fat this machine drains from meats. I will never again cook a chicken in a crock pot and let it sit in all that grease! The booklet that comes with the roaster is easy to read, although there are not many recipes in it. The little cleaning tool is great, it works very well and the additional drip tray comes in handy in case you have a very fatty cut of meat or you want to cook a second item right after the first is finished cooking. All in all, a wonderful appliance and highly reccomended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handiest thing in the kitchen
In addition to being an avid reader, I enjoy cooking. This appliance is the best thing on my counter. The first night after it arrived, I roasted a whole 4-1/2 pound chicken. I slid some fresh sage and rosemary under the skin, placed it in the cooker breast side down, added some baby potatoes and sliced onions, set the timer, and ignored it for the next hour. The wonderful aromas coming out of it were hard to ignore, but I resisted the temptation to open it up during the cooking process. My chicken was thoroughly done but moist, tender, and very flavorful. Although I had pulled out the abdominal fat, about 1/4" of grease dripped out into the tray during cooking. That was fat that didn't end up in my body. Last night I roasted an inexpensive pork roast along with some whole carrots and created a delicious dinner. I highly recommend this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars GEORGE FOREMAN GV5 CONTACT COOKER
I REALLY LIKE AND USE IT EVERY DAY. THE ONLY COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE IS THAT WHEN THE TIMER TIMES OUT IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF, I BOUGHT A DIGITAL HEAVY DUTY TIMER FROM HOME DEPOT AND NOW THE OVEN SHUTS OFF AFTER A PRESET TIME INTERVAL. IF YOU DON'T KEEP AN EYE ON THE COOKER IT WILL ALLOW THE FOOD TO OVER COOK. MY REMEDY TO THE PROBLEM COST TWENTY DOLLARS...NOW I LOVE THE COOKER.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy and Fun to Use
What I like about this Contact Cooker is that it's perfect for roasting chickens (less than 5 lbs), roasts, and whatever else you can fit in the cooker's cavity. It heats up in less than five minutes and is ready to go when you are.

The cooker comes with a removable insert which I used most of the time so the meat can roast in it's own juices. It also makes it easier to collect the juice for gravy, just make sure to use pot holders.

The only cons I have are:

1. The insert tray handles stick out of the sides of the cooker. It gets hot and can burn you if you're not paying attention. Plus, an unknowing person may accidently try to pick up the cooker thinking their handles for the cooker itself. It can be a potentially very dangerous situation when the cooker is being used.

2. You don't have a choice to the heat settings. Heck, it took me a while to find out what the cooker's heat setting was. It's a permanent 325. But, since you're cooking using all sides of the cooker, the temperature is quite practical for all meats.

3. The cooking cavity is not as big as I would like it to be. It's fine for anything less than 5 lbs and not overly large. Great for family meals of 4 or less - but don't expect to fit a pork shoulder roast or Thanksgiving turkey. It also doesn't allow room for me to slip in a temperature probe very well.

The Pros:

1. Easy to clean. The teflon coating clean up really nice. The insert tray take a little more work to clean, but it's not too bad.

2. Fast warm up. It's ready in less than 5 minutes.

3. Doesn't radiate heat as much like your oven would. A big plus, especially in the summer time.

4. Less mess overall. I use less pots and pans. What a relief.

5. Just about foolproof if you follow directions. Even though I like using temperature probes to keep tabs on my food, it really isn't necessary to do so.

This is a really nice cooker to have. Lots of pluses to having it, especially when you start using it. You'll discover the benefits yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars George Foreman Contact Cooker
I love this cooker. For a family of 2 or 3 this is great. Just the right size. It easily cooks a 5# chicken. I put a pork roast in the roasting pan and it came out so tender and juicy. Fixed wings first by putting in the bottom part and getting rid of some of the grease then put them in the roasting pan, then added barbeque sauce. Great. Would recommend this to anyone. Especially someone watching not to eat alot of grease. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Every home needs a panini grill
But not necessarily this one. I bought this grill from Amazon in March. I use it alot, and even considered giving it 5 stars, but I have a couple of issues with it.

Compared to the other panini grills I have seen (Villaware, Krups, Wolfgang Puck), the DeLonghi has fewer, more widely spaced ribs. This design makes it easy to clean with a cloth, and no cleaning "comb" is provided. However, a drawback to the wide spacing is it can allow your panini to squish down into the valleys where all the oily stuff goes. You would be surprised how much oily goo a peperoni and mozzerella panini can make, especially if you brush the outside with olive oil, butter, or mayo before grilling like I do.

A minor annoyance: when it is stored upright on its back, it teeter totters on the lid's power cord. IMO, a high end appliance shouldn't have such a glaring design flaw.

Even though I like the DeLonghi alot, if I were buying another one, I would try the Villaware.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great grill, great price, and great results
This grill is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have used it for both panini sanwiches and grilling meat and have had great results.

No on/off switch though, kind of a hassle, but compared to old wolfie's grill, this is top of the line.

clean-up is easy, temp control is a plus and very fast cooking time. 1" chops in 8 min WOW!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny
I have hoped by now that I would see a review on the DeLonghi Retro Panini Grill CGH800 and have been looking since October 2003. I have read other reviews on competitor's models, but to date no one has written in on this wonderful unit so I feel I should.

I had a bad experience with another Panini Grill, also comparable in price but with handle breakage problems. In the reviews for the one I had purchased prior there was another with the same problem. I was hesitant about getting another, but I loved the concept and was willing to try another brand with high quality standards. In November I purchased this product.

The unit is very heavy and well made, and the handle is strong. I have made many Panini sandwiches and everyone is excellent. The grilling of the sandwich takes about 4-5 minutes and produces wonderful grill marks and the contents inside are very hot. I have used homemade bread, French bread, rye bread, pitas (which I feel are too thin) hoagie rolls and even store bought rolls all proving wonderful.

The combinations of sandwich fillings for Panini's are endless. I serve a large Panini with a bowl of soup for an easy weeknight dinner and a change of pace from the many recipes I make on other nights. We really look forward to each and every one and I am not disappointed in this product.

I want to comment on the non-stick - it is absolutely wonderful! Cheese or anything that may ooze out just comes up with a piece of toweling, nothing ever sticks. I have not grilled meats on it as I have three sizes of another well-known grill, but have grilled zucchini along side the sandwich. With the excellent coating I would not hesitate to cook meats and I like the fact that it has a trough for the grease to drip into the cup that is provided.

I also have not used anything but the highest temperature on the control as I only use this grill for Panini sandwiches, but I am sure that it would be perfect with something that needed a lower temperature. Also an additional plus, --it certainly would be ideal if my husband was not finished with something I served first and the thought that I could keep sandwiches warm and not burn the bread by turning the temperature to a low (keep warm) setting for sure is a wonderful addition to this product.

The product is pricey, but if you want quality and long life --this product is worth the investment. I am very happy with my purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Toss your Foreman grill NOW!
The Hamilton Beach Meal Maker Express is not only better designed and more sturdily made, it has more features, and BETTER features. After owning and using this marvel regularly for two years, I do nothing but rave about it to everyone I know.

Fast easy meal for one: 2 frozen chicken thighs, sliced onions and bell peppers. Set the cooker/timer for five minutes, flip chicken (I usually slice it into fajita strips at this point), move onions/peppers around on grill, add some salt and pepper, set timer for 8 minutes and DING! Dinner's ready!

Of course, cooking non-frozen food is quick and easy, too. And, if you've got a lot of mouths to feed, simply lay it flat and get twice the cooking surface.

As others have noted, cleanup is a breeze - just toss everything into the dishwasher if you're lazy (like me). And the grease collector is INSIDE the grill, so you'll never spill the grease all over your counter and floor, as so often happens with George Foreman's crummy shallow-grease-dish-on-the-counter design.

If you're looking for a superior countertop grill, you won't regret replacing your Foreman with the Hamilton Beach Meal Maker. It simply can't be beat. The price is right, too! ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Buying my 2nd
This used to be available as the G.E. Contact Grill. For whatever reason they discontinued it and Hamilton Beach took it on.

Smart move. I've had my G.E. model for nearly four years, using it almost every day. I've now literally worn it out. I'm buying the Hamilton Beach.

It has worked perfectly. Remember, adequate preheating for at least five minutes is essential.

Steaks, burgers, chicken, shrimp, scallops, kabobs, salmon steaks or filets, veggies, even grilled ham & cheese sandwiches. They all turn out great.

Clean-up is a breeze, because, unlike others, the grids are removeable and just go into the dishwasher, as does the recessed grease collector cup. What could be easier?

I honestly don't know what I would do if I didn't have this gem. In fact, I think I'm going to buy two this time. You know how these companies are. They just love to discontinue good products!

One small complaint: On my G.E., when the timer bell rings, the knob doesn't turn quite far enough to turn the unit off, as it should. I have to give it that extra little nudge so that the red light, and the heating elements, shut off. But that didn't happen until I'd used it about a 1000 times.

I hope whatever caused that has been corrected.

Otherwise, Happy Grilling, everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beach Meal Maker Express
This grill KNOCKS OUT BIG GEORGE FOREMAN'S. This grill is a pleasure to use. It cooks steaks, burgers, chicken to perfection. I love the timer feature. But without a doubt the best feature of this grill in addition to its ease of use is how easy it is to clean. No scraping or having to use a roll of paper towels to clean this grill up. Simply pop out the grills and into the dishwasher they go. They come out crystal clean. NO MESS!!! This is a BEST BUY item for sure!

5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!
When I made my purchase I didn't realize how quick and easy it would be to prepare dinner! Frozen chicken breasts, steaks, pork chops - in or less than 10 minutes!! It is unbelievable and I would highly recommend it to everyone! Cleanup is so easy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love this grill
I'm very pleased with how easy cleanup is on this grill. After use I just take a paper towel over the cooking surface to get the excess food particles & leftover grease off. After it's cooled remove the cooking sections & stick them in the dishwasher or just hand wash in a minute or 2
The right side doesn't cook as hot as the left side so halfway thru cooking I just switch the food around. My biggest complaint is that when grease flows into the drip pan it also seems to get under the grill somewhat & tends to burn there. To help eliminate this I fold a piece of aluminum foil over the drip opening.
Overall, I'm satisfied - It makes great hamburgers & chicken. ... Read more

When the weather is too cold to stand outside over the gas grill, fire up the Perfecto indoor grill instead. This electric grill has an embedded heating element and a special M-shaped grill design so the entire surface area heats up and grilling results are more consistent. Its adjustable, detachable thermostat has five temperature levels and can be adjusted low for grilling corn or other vegetables and higher for steaks or shrimp. The grill surface itself is nonstick, so less oil is required for cooking and swordfish steaks flip nicely without sticking. A nonstick splatter shield surrounds the edge of the grill to prevent walls and countertops from getting greasy and a drip tray below the grill’s surface catches any juices. Both the cooking surface and tray remove easily for painless cleanup. For the most tender and juicy meats, the tempered glass lid fits over the grill to retain moisture while still allowing the chef to check on meat’s progress. For safety, the Perfecto has cool-touch handles to prevent fingers from burns and an indicator light to show when the grill is heating up. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to outdoor grill
This grill was everything I hoped for. It heats up quickly and cooks as fast as any outdoor grill (i don't know why the other guy had a problem with his pork chops - I can do a medium size steak in under 10 minutes using the cover). Salmon steaks, hot dogs, burgers and everything else also come out great. I was also pleasantly surprised that it didnt generate much smoke at all. I think it's an excellent product for someone who can't have an outdoor grill. The only thing is I don't pay for my electric and it might use a lot of electricity due to its high voltage.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sorry Delonghi.....Not A Good Product!!
I did my homework and I thought I was buying a great table top indoor grill to cook chicken and steaks to replace a different brand that had just died on me. Well, I was very disappointed when I used it the first time and "tried" to grill pork chops. It took forever (much longer than the manual stated) and I had the temp setting at the highest. They finally did get done but were not very tasty and dried out because I had to cook them so long. My opinion is that because the grill is open on the bottom to the drip pan and the eating element is underneath....much of the heat goes down and not up to the food on top.
It was, however, easy to clean which was good because I packed it up and shipped it back the next day.
Sorry Delonghi, back to the drawing board.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst excuse for a grill anywhere
I have used a number of Foreman and Hamilton Beach contact grills. I bought this because I thought with the heat control I could sear then cook.

WRONG>

This is the absolute worst grill on the market. It simply does not get nearly hot enough to sear or even cook on the highest setting...say 20 minutes for a rib eye. Ludicrous.

Look elsewhere...I am throwing this monstrosity away!

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This Grill
Do not buy this grill. I tried to give it zero or negative stars, but the system would not allow that. The grill does not perform as described. It does not get hot enought to sear or brown the meat. I grilled a couple of pork steaks on the grill for over 30 minutes and they never got browned. Instead, there were light brown streaks where they contacted the grill and the rest of the meat just turned an unappetizing dirty gray color. Also, despite the length of time the steaks were on the grill, parts that were not in contact with the grill were not completely done. The manufacturer will undoubtedly say that a person should put the cover on the grill, but then the meat is being steamed rather than grilled and will not brown. And, I am not at all sure I will be able to return it, because I have used it and it was not shipped by Amazon, but by one of the marketplace merchants.

5-0 out of 5 stars buying another for family
I have to say I have an older model of this grill without the glass cover, somthing I wish I had. In either case, the grill has served its purpose in my home. When winter comes we cook just about everything we would cook on the gas grill on this. Best part is, unlike cooking steaks in the oven, the grill doesn't smoke the steaks and set off the fire alarms!

I also put everything in the dishwasher so clean up is a cake walk.

We like it so much we are getting another one this year as a gift for a family member. ... Read more

Popular in Europe for generations, the raclette grill lets you grill your favorite meats, seafood or veggies right on top while plates of cheese bubble below. Everyone can gather around and cook his or her own. Once all is ready, the warm cheese is poured over the grilled food then eaten. You can even use the raclette to make homemade crepes or potato pancakes just by flipping the grill - it becomes a flat griddle. The Cuisinart raclette comes with an adjustable temperature control knob and includes eight steel raclette plates with heat-resistant handles, metal holders and eight heat-resistant spatulas for scraping the cheese from the plates. ... Steaks, burgers, hot dogs, fish, pork chops, French toast, sandwiches, hash browns, vegetables... The list goes on and on of foods and meals this compact countertop grill can cook on both sides simultaneously. A recipe booklet makes that clear, and even shows how a version of beef stroganoff can be prepared between the grill's top and bottom cooking grids in minutes. When the whole family sits down for a meal, or hungry friends turn up, the top opens flat, doubling the cooking surface to 216 square inches. (Each grid's effective cooking surface measures about 12-1/2 by 7 inches; closed, the grill--made of hard, bright, black plastic--measures 16-1/2 by 13 inches overall.) Other fine features: fats drain into dishwasher-safe drip tray for healthful cooking; timer shuts off grill automatically when cooking time elapses; dishwasher-safe, nonstick grids remove for easy cleanup; and cord wraps into bottom for storage. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beats George's Hands Down
We subscribe to Consumer Reports and read all about these types of grills. The George Foreman and the Hamilton Beach MealMaker Express Grill seam to be the most popular but the HB beats ALL the competition hands down!
Many people who already have the George Foreman grill all have told us they hate it because it's so difficult to clean. With the removable grills on the HB model, this problem simply does not exist. We love how fast this grill cooks chicken and steak. The best part is that the meats are so juicy and delicious.
I highly recommend the Hamilton Beach MealMaker Express Grill.

4-0 out of 5 stars George is hotter but Hamilton Beach still wins
When i first got the grill, i was very disappointed. Whilst it's larger and has the removable grids, it was not as hot as my old George Foreman and it seemed as if my foods were steaming. However, after several months, i've discovered a few secrets to cooking on it and am much happier.
1. preheat it for a minimum of 5 minutes, maybe 8.
2. don't overload it all at once
3. if your food is very lean (or skinless) it won't sear well right away. Marinading will help. Also, if you spray your meat with Pam or drizzle alittle olive oil on it (sounds gross but what the heck) it'll help sear it.
Bottom line is: Even though my old George cooked hotter and faster, my new Hamilton Beach remains champ due to ease of cleaning. I love the convenience of popping out those grids!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best grills out there
We're on our second Hamilton Beach grill and we love its simplicity and versatility. As a dad who does most of the weekday dinners, this grill has helped me go from Good to Great, at least in the eyes of my wife and 3 picky kids.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is that in our experience, the nonstick coating wears off rather quickly, and it then becomes a slight pain to clean. I'm willing to concede that could happen because we might use it three times a day (breakfast sausage, lunch hot dogs*, dinner salmon) and four or five days a week. In any case, you can order replacement grills by mail -- no web orders :-( -- from the company for about $13 each.

Do yourself and your family a favor: get THIS grill AND a good book (like "Grill Power") on how to marinate and grill steaks, chops, chicken, lamb, fish, shrimp, scallops, etc.
You'll wonder why you didn't do so a long time ago.

*Even if you're not a hot-dog lover, once you've had them or kielbasa grilled, not boiled, you'll never want to go back.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the BEST
I have never owned this kind of grill before - I don't know how I lived without it before. I use it every day - It's fast, easy to use, easy to clean and makes great tasting food. IF YOU ARE ON THE ATKINS DIET - or THE SOUTH BEACH DIET or any diet in which you have to prepare a lot of protein - chicken, fish, meat, etc - then this is a MUST HAVE grill. It makes that food taste fabulous with nothing added. And you don't have to cook it for an hour. Grilled Chicken breast takes 5 (five) minutes! Same for hamburger or steak. Not having time to cook is no longer an excuse for me to eat junk food.

This grill is GREAT. I cannot say enough good things about it.
I bought mine some months ago from Amazon - and though mine still works great - I came back to get another one as a backup - just in case anything ever happens to this one. I use this grill every single day - and sometimes twice a day.

And it's totally non-stick - it's even more non-stick than most non-stick pans. I'm not sure how they did that - but I'm impressed. GO FOR IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Could not live without it
I have had mine for several months now and use it frequently. It is excellent for meats and fatty fish (salmon and the like) and does a good job of cooking vegetables, hot dogs, and other sausages as well. I have cooked frozen prepared chicken wings without defrosting them and have gotten excellent results.

Cleanup is generally easy. I get off some of the gunk with a soft brush under running water and then wash the grills in the dishwasher.

When this one breaks, I shall get another the next day. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price!
Ordered and received this product during the holidays; Despite previous reviewers comments, I have no complaints about packaging...it arrived all in one piece. Maybe Amazon improved upon their packaging method? I've been using this panini maker for a month, and I've been very happy with it. Bread grills evenly, and the ingredients inside the panini heat sufficiently (cheese melts etc.)The finished panini always look professionally prepared. I have prepared several different panini using varied ingredients and breads, and all have come out great! One hint...bread should not be too soft or sliced too thin. Rather than brush the outside of the bread with oil as the directions indicate, I just spray both sides with cooking spray...it works fine and is not too greasy!
Only reason I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is because the grill grates are not removable and so clean up is a bit of a hassle. But...don't let that stop you; this a a GREAT product for the price!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product at a good price!
Bought this panini maker for my husband who loves any type of melt sandwich. This thing grills your bread to perfection, no matter what type you use and the top grill cover presses down on your sandwich to make a true panini. It is large enough to accomodate 4 regular-sized sandwiches or 2 very large ones and it is so easy to clean. The product is very heavy and a bit large to store, but we have been enjoying all sorts of sandwich recipes (from the panini cookbook Amazon sells). You definitely get plenty of bang for your buck and I'm glad we didn't spend any extra money for a different product. This one is perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great panini maker
I agree with all of the positive reviews on this panini maker. I debated whether or not I really wanted to get another appliance, and thought I would take it home and try it out to see if the sandwiches it made were as good as the ones you could order in restaurants--and boy, are they ever! No second thoughts on this item--I'm hooked. Not only are the sandwiches as good, they're better. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves good sandwiches--they don't get any better than this. Very easy to use and clean as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars For The Money
My son has the $80 Krups model and raves and raves about it. I was going to purchase this model but after reading the great reviews for the $39.99 Breadman I decided to go with this one. I am so happy that I did. Unbelievable for the price. We made toasted cheese sandwiches the first night and they were as good as any restaurant could make. Don't waste your money on the higher costing models. This will do exactly what you want for half the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Call me ITALIAN!
This is an excellent machine in all respects, and very surprising because the price is so reasonable. I liked it so much, I bought two: one for home and another for the office. Now, I'm a hero [not a sandwich] both at home and at work! ... Read more

This large, oval electric raclette grill makes it possible for eightpeople to enjoy a festive meal of Swiss-style melted cheese or foodssuch as kabobs, burgers, or fajitas. The grill is a two-level cookingunit with a pre-set thermostat. The 13-1/4-inch-long nonstick top functions as a griddle to fryfood and toast bread. Underneath the top is a heating element thatfunctions as a broiler to melt cheese--or to brown food--placed ineight, wedge-shaped, nonstick trays and slipped onto the base's chrometop. (Traditionally, the cheese is mellow, nutty Swiss raclette, whichis also the name of the meal.) Including its handles, the ruggedplastic base surrounding the chrome top measures 17 inches long. Boththe base and its top wipe clean. The nonstick cooking plate removes forcleaning as easily as the nonstick trays. All this and more isexplained in the instruction/recipe booklet. 5-0 out of 5 stars Raclette Heaven
We visited Germany and while there had the pleasure of eating off the raclette grill. We enjoyed it so much we ate off of it again before leaving. When we arrived back in the states I looked everywhere for this grill. I finally visited amazon.com and found the grill. Upon receiving the grill our son came over while we were using it and wanted one along with a few other friends. This is a great item. I would recommend it to everyone who likes to have fun meals.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good price
I found this while looking for raclette grills to replace my Stöckli 4-person grill, which has been outgrown despite having served us well. This appears to be an excellent buy. Most raclette grills do not have temperature controls since the process is to grill the cheese and then serve it over your cold meats (sopressata, bressaola, coppacola, anchovies) and potatoes (www.raclette-suisse.ch has more recipes for those new to this dish). Raclette has become a pizza substitute for us since my wife is gluten sensitive and there are lots of ways to enjoy raclette. One barrier to the enjoyment of this in the US has been the price, which this grill provides a very good inexpensive grill that is good for parties or large families.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a true raclette grill
I was very diappointed with this grill. The set does not include any scrapers to scrape out the cheese, or any tongs to help you grill your food on the top grill. I was hoping for more from T-Fal. It's also very compact, which is great for storage, but horrible if 8 of you are trying to use the grill at the same time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Buy!
Like others writing reviews on this raclette grill, I discovered the tradition on my last trip to Germany. I was so happy to find this one at Amazon for the lowest price available.
The best part is that it is manufactured in France. Others on the internet were "manufactured in China, using Swiss technology". The Chinese ones were also triple the price of this T-Fal model.
I am extremely happy with this model, and feel that it would make a great wedding gift as well.
It does not have an adjustable thermostat, but you don't really need one. It also heats up quickly which is nice, and is quite easy to clean.

5-0 out of 5 stars T-Fal Raclette Grill
I've owned my T-Fal Raclette grill for seven years, just bought two more this year, 2003, for gifts. Price is great, serves the purpose and had $$$ left over for a Raclette cookbook! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Grilling is one of the easiest ways to eat healthier; fats and oils drain away from foods, and flavor is concentrated by the high heat. The George Foreman G2 is a freestanding, countertop combo grill and griddle that offers year-round, indoor grilling. Not only is the G2 great for grilling burgers, chops, and sausages, but it can also make crisp grilled cheese or panini-style sandwiches. The flat griddle accommodates eggs, bacon, pancakes, or hash browns--an ideal brunch station. Both griddle and grill are nonstick, which means even less fat is needed. And the G2 is nice-looking, too, with a silvertone metal grill lid, steel grill handle, and sturdy black accents.

The powerful 1500-watt heating element can heat the spacious grill and griddle to sizzling for frying bacon or searing meats, or it can be turned down to a low keep-warm setting. The variable temperature knob--marked for minimum, medium, and maximum temperatures--easily adjusts to any temperature at or between those settings. The grill surface is tilted very slightly down toward the front; the removable drip tray fits under the front grill edge to catch any excess fat that drains away during cooking. An accompanying heat-resistant spatula is safe for use with the nonstick surfaces; use only soft utensils such as nylon or wood. Safety features include a stay-cool grill lid handle and nonskid rubber feet.

The accompanying spatula, cleaning tool, and removable drip tray are dishwasher safe. Let grill and griddle cool completely before cleaning. To preserve the nonstick coating, do not use steel wool or other scouring pads on grill and griddle, and avoid abrasive cleansers. Use soft-bristled cleaning brushes to help clean between the grill ribs; the enclosed cleaning tool is also designed to fit between the ribs for loosening food buildup. The G2 grill and griddle is not immersible. The George Forman G2 grill and griddle measures 27 by 16 by 6 inches, with a 100-square-inch nonstick grill surface and a 115-square-inch griddle surface. Amazon.com Review

Some sandwiches are just better toasted, and the Breville Maxi 2-in-1 panini press allows that all sandwiches might be. With its flat cooking plates and adjustable depth, the press does everything from reheating grilled cheese to creating café-quality focaccia sandwiches. A floating top plate and ten depth settings let you tailor use to your preference, recipe, or ingredients, and create consistent results whether sandwiches are wafer-thin or packed full.

A 1500-watt appliance, the press has a sturdy structure with high-powered wiring concealed in the heavy metal arms to keep operation safe. Warm up and ready lights make the cooking process more efficient, and the Quasar Rockcote nonstick plates wipe down well while letting you cook with little or no fat. Helpful details range from the hidden cord wrap to the non-skid feet, and the whole unit can be stored flat or on its side in tighter spaces. As with other Breville devices, the power cord has an unusual and helpful plug design with an easy-grab fingerhole. Sized for up to four full-scale sandwiches at a time, the press is suitable for sliced or bakery bread and comes in handy from breakfast on through to late-night snacking. It also looks good on your countertop in a matte black and gleaming chrome finish. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy packaging continues. . .
I wish I could rate the grill itself, but never got to try it. The handle was broken when it arrived, due to the poor packing, actually no packing at all. The box was simply removed from the warehouse shelf and thrown in the mail; so disapppointing. The box wasn't even taped shut! Judging from other comments, Amazon has done nothing to correct their no-packing policy. I doubt that I will re-order this product from Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars A revelation
We had never really spent much time on heated sandwiches. This machine changed all that. It's an efficient, easy-to-clean (just a wipe), high quality product. The flat, nonstick surface creates an even, broad crispness on the bread. Cheese or meat fillings get warmed easily. For even better heat/steam penetration and retention we often wrap a sandwich in a single layer of aluminum foil. The ability to set the lid height combined with the base's heat make this an ideal appliance when you reheat leftover pizza (if that's how you like to eat it). Had to puchase it elsewhere as it was on back-order at Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUT!!! ZERO stars for shipping and handling!!!
I think the product itself is great, and so I rated it 5 stars.I guess I was one of the fortunate ones, however. Despite shipping in original flimsy packaging, and shipping damage to the box, and UNTAPED box lids that were partially open...the unit itself arrived intact. I simply cannot believe that the package was shipped with the lids untaped. Both ends were literally half open!!! Most packages arriving from Amazon.com are well packaged, with proper packaging materials, but every once in a while something like this happens and it makes one wonder about quality control.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT SANDWICHES
I love this product. The Breville Panini Press can handle any type of bread. We just made proscuitto, goat cheese, and roasted pepper panini. Perfecto!! This product is very easy to clean after making a mess. We have yet to burn a sandwich. The floating plates make the job effortless. I would encourage buyers to take this product over the villa ware and krups panini makers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Aren't you listening? Great product...lousy packaging.
It's not the product that gets a "1"...it's the packaging! I ordered this item for my husband as a Christmas gift. It arrived with the handle completely broken, and the top dented. The item had been shipped in the manufacturers' display box, only...a flimsy box that was totally inappropriate for shipping purposes. I was so dissappointed, and a little annoyed at myself as well. Why was I annoyed? Because I had read earlier reviews of the product, including comments indicating that the product had been shipped this way in the past and that damage had resulted. I naively assumed that since complaints had been received, it would be shipped more safely and appropriately in the future. Obviously, I was wrong. Aren't you listening, Amazon??? ... Read more
