The brilliantly simple design of the Hamilton Beach commercial manual citrus juicer is as classic-looking as it is effective. Created with rack-and-pinion gearing that allows you to exert up to 2,000 pounds of pressure with very moderate work, the unit extracts maximum amounts of juice from oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes. Pith, pulp, peel, and oil are left behind in the strainer cone, which is removable for easy cleanup. Between juicings, the juicer's handle stays in the "up" position, which makes it easy to quickly add more fruit. A swing-out drip cup at the bottom is adequate for small citrus fruits; it also swivels to the side to make way for glasses up to 5-1/2 inches high and swings back into place to collect drips. Designed for rugged use, the juicer has a heavy-duty metal construction with acid-resistant chrome and enamel finishes. It is suitable to a heavy-duty café kitchen or a high-volume coffee counter, and its Sure Grip non-skid base keeps it still while protecting the countertop. Measuring 7 inches wide by 9 deep, it stands 19-1/2 inches high. Hamilton Beach includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd bought this grater MONTHS ago!
I purchased this after spending 2 hours zesting limes for a gourmet cookie recipe with the traditional potato-peeler+ food processor method. The most time consuming part is carefully scraping way all the white pith on the inside of the peel. The pith is very bitter and can ruin your recipe. This zester did the same job in 30 seconds and didn't even touch the pith. Just pure, perfect lime zest with no effort. Totally worth its weight in gold. Now I can make those cookies again without my hands cramping up after hours scraping the peels. Who has time for that?

I've also started using it for grating parmesan. Definately takes Ceaser salads and pasta up a notch. I'm purchasing several more as gifts for my friends. Would make an incredible (and cheap) holiday/birthday gift for anyone, even the casual cook. Please note that the size of the grated zest or cheese is very fine and not ideal as a garnish. Parmesan or Romano grated with this tool melts quickly into the pasta, and doesn't lend much to the presentation. Tastes great, but hard to see. If you're looking for a garnishing tool, this is not it.

5-0 out of 5 stars an absolute marvel
This tool takes the place of several little gadgets in my kitchen. I had a little handheld zester that worked fine, but was somewhat difficult in trying to get the maximum amount of zest from a lemon or lime. Not a problem for this tool. A few quick rubs around the fruit, and you have lemon/lime zest confetti.
Grated cheese? This tool gets the cheese so fluffy and light that it melts in no time, and is much easier to use than my traditional grater. I'm a little nervous about using it for things like nutmeg or dried ginger, but that's just because I don't know if it can be done. For anything soft, like fresh ginger, garlic, cheese, zest, this is perfect. The shreds are probably too fine for things like zuccini, so it won't COMPLETELY replace your box grater, but it sure makes fine shredding a lot easier.
The only (MINOR) drawback is that it can be difficult clean, espcially since the pieces can get very small and melt or stick quickly, and the ridges on the underside can capture things and make it difficult to get to them, but aside from that, this is a wonderful product. BETTER than a zester or grater.

5-0 out of 5 stars I must admit that I was a bit skeptical
I resisted buying the microplane grater for quite a while, despite the glowing reviews I was reading everywhere. I finally gave in and wow! I'm not easily impressed by new gadgetry and I already had several graters.

This grater is incredible! I grate a lot of Parmesano Reggiano, and those that use it a lot know that it's a bear to grate. If it's even slightly old, it gets crumbly and it's tough even when super-fresh.

The microplane grater really reduces all hard cheeses to the finest angelhair-like strands with almost no effort at all. I was truly amazed by it.

In my opinion, though, it doesn't work well at all for zesting. If you want to zest citrus, stick with a traditional zester. No matter how careful I am, it always takes off too much pith. I found it didn't work well for grating onion, either. Onion isn't easy to grate in any case, but this reduced it to juice..had to use my fine box grater.

But as I said, for cheese, this grater is the best!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is the best kitchen item ever...It works really well, and makes grating & zesting much simpler. I am from Russellville, AR, where the makers of this dandy gadget are from. I can't believe I am from the town that made this great tool, but I am. Good job to them for helping out all cooks everywhere. These are sharp tools though, so don't let the kids play with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow , worth its weight in gold!
I used this recently for an orange sweet bread recipe. It works so effortlessly. I have avoided fresh Lemon and orange peel in the past because grating it was very time consuming. And sometmes you went too deep and added unwanted bitterness to your recipe. The fresh peel tastes sooooo much better and with the microplane it is really easy. I can't wait to try fresh ginger root. This opens a whole new realm of easy and tasty possibilities. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good work out!
If you don't want to work for your fresh juice this isn't the juicer for you.

Some have mentioned problems with the gears but a quick spritz of WD 40 on mine and it's worked fine since I've had it.

It'll squeeze small grapefruits to small limes and everything in between.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second Opinion
Hmmm, now that I have received the second juicer, it turns out that it has the spring loaded arm. I felt this one would have parts that could break in the future (the spring in the arm). It turns out that I like the spring loaded arm, it makes the task a little bit easier. Going back to my first Metrokane juicer, the manual arm style that I swore by, now seems to be a little bit of a hassle. Also, this new one is COMPLETELY polished chrome "looking". The only caveat is that the base seems to be a polished steel "covered/molded" PLASTIC! (I hate plastic!) So, the one made entirely of steal is virtually unbreakable, but a little taxing as far as effort is concerned. The spring loaded arm version is, in comparison, more cheaply made, but a bit easier on the arm. I use both and am keeping both. Whichever one you would like to have, remember... FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE RULES!!! :o) Enjoy!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheap metal
When I first got the juicer, I absolutely loved it! Finally, fresh O.J.! Worked well, was able to juices 10-20 lbs. of oranges in minutes. However, I did get the feeling there was still plenty more left in the halves. Then one day the gears felt "sticky", and then on one more pull of the arm the metal body just cracked and broke! Right where the arm attaches to the body it just cracked apart. This was not mechanical. it was just poor quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Far from being "professional"
Nice looking chrome gadget but we found it to perform poorly. The holding glass is small and tilted very easily. The halves stucked to the cup on the lever. You have to remove the fruit halves with your fingers (very impractical and messy). The cranker does not produce enough leveler pressure often leaving plenty of juice in the halves, no matter how hard you push. If you push to hard the stability of the juicer is not good. There are no suction feet to hold the machine in place. Can't recommend it. Far from being a so call "professional" equipment.

1-0 out of 5 stars hard to handle for old people.
no directions to maintain or use came ith the juicer.did not seem to extract all the juice, but left pulp all around the edges.I want to return it when I learn how.Your return thing is down. thank You for asking. Lou Borczak ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb knife
I received this paring knife (included in the course fee) when I took a Wusthof knife skills course at a local shop. It's everything a knife should be - sharp, solid, well-balanced, and a comfortable fit in the hand. Wusthof got the proportions of the classic-style handle about right; not too fine, not too chunky... just right for comfort and control. After the course I gave it to my mother, who was surprised at its sharpness. (I already owned a Henckels Pro-S 3" paring knife, which has a slightly longer handle... IMO the two knives are similar in quality.)

This is also the knife that inspired a friend who finally bought one to exclaim, "I'm surprised you didn't say, 'You call that a knife????? THIS is a knife!' when you were using my (old, stamped, serrated) knives!" She now understands my addiction to forged German steel.

As always, it's best to try several knives in person and see how they fit your hand before buying, but it would be hard to go wrong with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wusthof Classic 3 1/2 inch paring knife
This is a great addition to any kitchen. I think it will last for the rest of my life! Soon I hopefully can add more of this brand to our kitchen. I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality makes a difference
I've got a cheap-o chef's knife and I've got this little 3 1/2" Wüsthof paring knife. It's a testament to the quality of the Wüsthof that I'd rather use it, even for big knife jobs like chopping vegetables or cutting meat. The quality of the blade more than makes up for the lack in size.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy one of these and never need another
I strongly advise people to get GOOD knives. You don't end up with a drawer of junk, and you will grab for this one probably more than any other in the kitchen. This is my workhorse, and I love Wusthof knives. I've had a set for 20 years, and only replaced my paring knife because it was missing from my set after a move. I do everything with this, peel vegetables, cut dice, slice or dice onions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Knives!
This is the best paring knife we have ever used. I strongly disagree with the overkill knife theory! This is the first knife my wife reaches for cause she said it is her favorite one.
Every individual has different likes and dislikes. These knives are expensive, but you get quality and a very well made knife with a lifetime guarantee. Just try one & it should make you wonder why a person would want to use those cheaper brand knives as long as you can afford to buy Wusthof. ... Read more

Reducing kitchen cutlery down to the basics, this cutting duo offers a perfect start to any knife collection. Falling somewhere between a cleaver and a chef’s knife, the 7-inch Santoku knife functions as a kitchen mainstay. This all-purpose blade can be used for chopping, dicing, and slicing. The cutting edge features small oval-shaped grooves designed to trap air during use and prevent food from adhering to its sides. The accompanying 4-inch pairing knife offers the control and dexterity of a compact blade ideally suited to skinning, mincing, and chopping smaller items.

True to the Henckels name, both knives feature high-quality steel construction with added strength and stain-resistance thanks to a unique Friodur ice-hardening process. The blade sharpness cuts with minimal effort and will last for generations with regular maintenance. Secured by three steel rivets; a full, visible tang runs the length of the black synthetic handle and contributes to the Professional "S" series’s traditional look. A steel bolster protects knuckles during use and both pieces are dishwasher-safe--although hand washing is recommended. Manufactured in Germany; both knives are covered by a lifetime warranty. -- Amy Arnold

The 4-inch fine-edged blade on this knife features slightly curved surfaces on both the back and the cutting edge, terminating in a sharp point. This is the perfect size for a versatile paring knife and the 4 Star line is the most underrated line on this sight. When a rookie comes to work in my kitchen and asks me what line of knives to invest in I send 'em here for 4 Starz. These are the knives I started with in 1979 and I still use an 8 inch chef's.
A bargain in price, indestructable, sharp, easy to keep sharp, attractive and built since 1976...timeless.

Buy this one, an 8 inch chef's, an 8 inch bread, a 5.5 inch boning knife, a 10 inch steel and the Santoku. Add more as needed. Buy 'em now!

5-0 out of 5 stars The right knife for a lot of jobs
While the shorter paring knives are more commoly seen, this 4" paring knife is actually a better choice for many jobs. In our kitchen it gets many times the use of either the 3" paring knife or 6" utility knife. If I could only have two knives to do everything, I would choose this 4" paring knife and my Kershaw Shun granton edge Santoku. I use both of these more than any of the rest of our knives.

The Henckels Four Star is a well regarded premium German knife line whose pros and cons have been covered endlessly over the years, so I'll not revisit them. While I love the razor edge of my Kershaw knives, I prefer the more rugged durability of the Heckels Four Star for my paring and utility knives.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have
Excellent weight and shape, strong blade, very versatile. I've had this knife for twelve years--and for several of those years, in my poor-student days, it was the only knife I owned, apart from a couple of cheap hand-me-down steak knives. High tech from tip to handle, Global knives from Japan created a sensation when they burst onto the world's culinary stage as an alternative to traditional European-style cutlery. Blades are made of hard molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and "face-ground" with a long taper rather than a short bevel so edges remain sharp longer than even the best high-carbon stainless-steel knives. Edges also are ground at a more acute angle than traditional European-style knives and arrive from the factory razor-sharp. Although Global's original knives have thinner blades and are lighter than traditional European-style knives, Global also makes a European-style "heavyweight" line for cooks who prefer hefty cutlery--like this 3-inch paring knife for cleaning and peeling vegetables and fruits. Global also dispensed with bolsters on most of its knives, including this one. Most Global knives have hollow handles, but the handle on this knife is solid.

Stainless-steel handles are Global's most striking feature. They're molded to fit the hand and dimpled to resist slipping. Smaller around than many European-style handles, they're easy for small-handed cooks to grasp and seamless for sanitation. Global recommends using a ceramic sharpener or a diamond steel instead of a metal sharpening steel for its knives, supplemented by a synthetic whetstone, a ceramic whetstone, or a Shinkansen sharpener. Global also makes a sharpening guide rail so blades can be honed on a whetstone at the proper angle. Global knives should be hand washed to protect edges. They carry a lifetime warranty against defects and breakage. --Fred Brack ... Read more

If there's one item most of us can't get along without in the kitchen it's a paring knife. It's a simple tool but necessary.

Pluses for this knife are the three inch blade - longer and it may not be manageable and the non-slip handle. Show me the person who can pare vegetables and fruit and keep their hands dry, thus an easy to grip handle that won't slide is a good safety precaution.

This odd-looking contraption peels, cores, and slices a basket of apples for a tarte, a crisp, or fritters in less time and with less effort than can be done by hand. The old-fashioned apple peeler has a suction cup bottom to keep it steady on a work surface and a clamp to secure it to the edge of a counter or cutting board. To use, skewer an apple on the end of the apple peeler’s three-pronged fork with the tines positioned around the core of the apple. Next, swing the arm that holds the peeling blade toward the apple so it’s just grazing the skin. Start turning the apple corer’s hand crank and the machine simultaneously removes the apple’s skin and core while cutting it into narrow slices that are perfect for pie and desserts or dehydrating. A release button helps you to easily remove your finished apple from the fork. This apple peeler/corer is made of sturdy aluminum and weighs four pounds. Progressive provides an extra blade with the tool and covers it under a five-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll be making apple pie in no time
This is very similar to the more expensive Pampered Chef apple peeler. You can peel and slice apples in no time with this handy device. It is simple to put together, and easy to clean. In a manner of minutes you can slice enough apples for a pie, cobbler, or your favorite fried apple dish. This is so much easier than slicing and then peeling the apples. Its great for making snacks for those who hate apple peels. This will help you make uniform cuts so everything looks nice as well as it tasting great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Time saving and fun
This apple peeler is fun to use. It is the first one I have ever owned and really appreciate the time saved over doing the same job by hand. I baked an apple cake today which called for four peeled, cored and sliced baking apples. The apples where ready within five minutes! I would recommend peeling both ends of the apple before doing the rest on the peeler, as the peeler cannot reach that last 1/2" or so at either end. Other than this minor "flaw" it peels, cores and slices perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grandma's apple pie is your friend....
This thing is genius. I am highly incompetent in the kitchen and only bake pies because I like to eat them.

Sadly, I am also lazy, tending to result in my having to wait for extended periods of time between eating pies I've baked using Grandma's tremendous recipe.

(You see, I am very busy. The time constraints heinously imposed by apple peeling are simply too much for me.)

It's all over now, though. Now, with the peeler, I eat pies. I eat a lot of pies. The peeler is genius. I just bought one for Grandma and Uncle Ed.

I may marry the peeler.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get peeling!
I don't know why I waited all of these years before getting an apple peeler. This saved me so much time-I had a half bushel of apples peeled, cored and sliced in about 15 minutes. My 2-year-old daughter loves to turn the handle and it makes peeling apples something we can do together. I have already ordered another one for a gift and several of my friends are ordering one. It peels any size or shape apple and the only problem I could identify is that you have to manually peel a tiny bit off the top of the apple where it misses it-no big deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have to say...
I had a small problem with this apple peeler, as I bake apple pies quite a bit. The blade bent, and would no longer core and peel fully. Well..I contacted Progressive, and they immediately had me send it back to them. They found the problem, let me know what it was..then sent me a new one, no questions asked. I love this I was quite happy and very impressed. The point is..if you have a problem, they will remedy it immediately. Buy this it works great, saves lots of time and you can rely on Progressive 100%! They stand behind their products..and don't look to blame you for any malfunction, as many companies do. :) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good everyday knives
I got these knives 2 years ago and still have yet to sharpen them. They work great for every little thing I have to cut. The red knife is great for slicing through muffins or small loaves of bread, my husband likes it for cutting sandwiches. The little blue knife is great for peeling potatoes or apples and the other two do all kinds of various cuttings. I would definitely buy them again or give them as gifts. I also like the colored handles not only for the colors sake but they are easy to remember which knife is which when the handle is the only thing poking out of the cup I have them standing in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift idea!
I bought my married-with-kids sister a set of these colorful knives, and she absolutely loves them. She even bought sets for their vacation homes on the coast! They're inexpensive and are great for gift giving.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but don't expect too much!
I bought these knives on a special. I got what I paid for. I would have given 2 1/2 stars if that was an option. If you have more than one person cooking at the same time, it is nice to be able to grab a knife for some quick work rather than doing time share. However, these don't hold a candle to the real deal. Oh, they are colorful :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty and Pretty useful
I bought my first set of these as individual knives in a little shop in Salzburg a few years ago. I have wanted more ever since. The twingrip series is our favorite series of Henckels knives. This set is pretty, and they're always dirty, because we use at least one of them in preparing nearly every meal! I am ordering several sets -- for me and for gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely comfortable and useful set of knifes
I found this set of knifes to be both extremely comfortable and quite useful in and out of the kitchen. They appear to be ergonomically designed for comfort and fit (with excellent tactile feel), and they do not slip when paring or peeling wet fruit or vegetables. Plus their colors make them easy to locate as well. I am buying another set for our neighbors. ... Read more

One second is all it takes to yield perfectly cut fruit slices with this tool by Oxo. Also a great tool for pears, the apple divider's soft, oversize rubber handles relieve and absorb the pressure from your hands for a nearly effortless cut. Positioned at an angle upward from the blade base, the handles ensure that hands and fingers have ample clearance from tabletops and cutting boards. Stainless steel makes the blades easy to clean and dishwasher-safe.

The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip, flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands while still providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets, the handles are slip-proof--wet or dry--as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I bought 3 different apple dividers; this one was best
I recently needed to cut a mountain of apples for a party. I knew that not all apple dividers were created equal and I wanted to have the best one. So I went out and bought three different ones to test before the big day. I wasn't crazy about the OXO's looks (I preferred the sleek stainless steel model I found for triple the price at Williams Sonoma), but in terms of utility--and honestly what other criterion should an apple divider be rated on?--the OXO divider was hands down the best. It slices the apple into 8 slices rather than 12. The fact that it cuts fewer slices makes the divider easier to use. Also the center hole for the core was just slightly larger than on the other two models I tried and that made it so that I needed to do fewer touchups with the knife on the OXO sliced apples. Also, the greater ease of cutting made it easier to cut straight slices, rather than wavy, uneven ones. The rubber handles are good because if you must cut a lot of apples rather than just one, the slipperiness of the juice can become an issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable, easy to use--apple consumption way up at out house!
I love this thing! It's durable, easy to use and clean, and it's offset design protects whatever surface you are using it on.

Since we bought it we now buy twice as many apples as we used to. The kids now snack on fresh apple more often and junk food less often. This alone has made this one of the best return to investment ratio products I've ever bought!

(My kids are middle-high scholl age--I'd be a ltiile carefuil with younger kids using it--the blades are sharper than they look.)

I just orderd a second one to keep at my office for quick & healthy afternoon snacks!

Frankly, I feel no home should be without one of these!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Slicer
It is very sturdy and the blades are sharp. I used to have an all-metal one (not OXO), but it would bend when I pushed down on it. The OXO slices through the apple quickly and easily, and the rubber grips are easy on the hands.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great tool
I love this item, and the apple consumption in our house has gone up quite a bit since we got it. This tool makes cutting an apple very easy and fun, and so more apples are eaten each day.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted
This tool is _almost_ perfect, from the comfortable grips to the well honed blades. Unfortunately, the plastic body is simply not durable enough. After about 6 months, the plastic cracked beyond repair.

If Oxo would replace the plastic body with one of metal, I'd buy another, even at twice the price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional look, easy to use
This peeler has a lovely matte steel finish-look, is not so lightweight as to be dangerous (it has good heft), possesses a thick handle to prevent you from losing your grip, and peels carrots and cucumbers (and other veggies/fruits) in record time. This is a great buy, and just think - you won't have to pull out that embarrassing rusty old peeler next time you have friends or family in the kitchen watching you work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful way to peel!
This new aged vegetable peeler is what every cooker needs. It peels the vegetable in no time at all allowing you to get on with the rest of the cooking you need to do. It doesn't eat the whole vegetable nor do you have to wash it by hand. When your done cooking your gormet dinner and it's time for the pile of dishes to be done, just toss in the peeler along with the rest of the dishes and relax. It is a wonderful product that most people should have in their kitchen!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Peeler to Beat All Peelers!
For years I've been looking for a peeler with a comfortable grip. This peeler has that. It also has a very sharp blade and great control while you're peeling. The blade just glides down the vegetable with ease. I'd recommend this peeler especially for people that have arthritis because it's so easy to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality value.
This handy and attractive zester comes with very sharp holes set at the perfect angle to make zesting rinds virtually effortless and give you more peel without pith on lemons, oranges and even the toughest of citrus skins. The built in channel knife for garnishing is a convenient addition you can use on chocolate and other foods to produce the perfect decoration every time. Its sharp blades never seem to need sharpening, and its hefty body fits comfortably in the hand, making it require less force to operate than the more traditional zesters do.
Like the rest of the products from the OXO Good Grips line, this one is a great value of superior quality, unsurpassed durability and flawless performance. Its ergonomic design and big, pressure-absorbing, outstanding non-slip grip, complete with an oversized hole for easy hanging, allow you comfortable, daily, wet or dry use. Its injury-free, elegant, stylized, standard OXO shape will fit perfectly with the rest of your OXO utensils in the kitchen or in the bar.
Its easy-to-clean, simple construction and dishwasher-safe, hard-wearing materials make this a tool that you will be able to depend on for years, and its stainless-steel metal parts will permanently keep your rust worries away.
After submitting this product to over two years of normal use, mine it's still just like new.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love It...
Not only is the OXO Good Grips Lemon Zester fun, easy, and comfortable to work with, it also seems to deliver more peel (without pith) than I have previously derived from other methods.
It is easy to scrape around any unwanted spot. I also like the size and shape of the zest obtained.

4-0 out of 5 stars good product
I find I have to *push* hard to get thru thick orange and lemon rinds. I have found that the microlane grater is easier and more versitile... The handle feels odd to me... and too big as a grip.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard to imagine how they could improve it
This is among the best of the OXO tools I've owned. It has exceptional sharpness and is a pleasure to use. Any serious cook who uses zest should strongly consider this tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Oxo product
