Zyliss, the Swiss maker of quality kitchen accessories, has refined the garlic press into a streamlined kitchen tool. There's no need to tediously peel garlic before pressing any longer--just place the whole clove into the press and squeeze. The peelings remain in the receptacle and garlic bits and juice are pressed out. The press is easily cleaned with the accompanying cleaning tool, which is conveniently stored in the handle so it won't be misplaced. Just match up the cleaner pegs with the holes in the garlic press to remove remaining peelings. Also, its aluminum construction makes this item dishwasher-safe. --Pamela Zytnicki ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fresh Garlic in a Squeeze
Nothing tastes better than freshly pressed garlic, better than the bottled, or (yech) powdered stuff. But it was always a mess to cut up your own, and then your hands smelled like garlic for several days ( I liked the aroma, but my co-workers didn't like that type of perfume). This garlic press changed all that.

It can't be any easier. Simply place the garlic clove (might have to be trimmed, the holding well in not all that large) into the press, and squeeze. The garlic and juice are extracted, and the skin stays in the press. Clean up is easy, just match up the cleaning jig, stored in the handle, with the extraction holes and push out the skin, rinse and wash. It is even dishwasher safe.

The Zyliss Garlic press has kicked up my cooking by the ease and usefullness of this great little gadget, fresh garlic is only a squeeze away, without the messy cleanup.

5-0 out of 5 stars 100% Satisfied -- that's pretty rare these days...
With super-generic kitchen products having flooded the market in the last 10 years, it is refreshing to be able to find a product that actually does its job, and does it well. While I will never be able to pronounce the brand name as long as I live, I won't be ashamed to show this product off to my family and friends.

The fit and finish of this product is absolutely super. No funny scratches, grooves, or inconsistent surfaces. The entire product feels as smooth as the inside layer of a Teflon frying pan, and the weight of the product inspires confidence in its durability. The plastic cleaner tucks away nicely/securely, and with one or two presses under the faucet, cleans up the mess in seconds.

There is *absolutely* no need to peel the garlic, as you will only get pressed garlic -- no peel at all! If you're going to press 3-4 cloves, don't bother digging in there to get the peel after the first one -- just leave it in. Press all of the cloves, then rinse, and you're done.

It's important that the garlic press work quickly and efficiently, since it's less work for you, and you don't end up squeezing out the important garlic juice out of the garlic -- leaving you with just fiber...

Ultimately, this is everything you want from a garlic presser -- it works, it's easy to use, it's a thing of beauty that will last, and perhaps most importantly, is a dream to clean up. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Garlic-lover's best friend!
I have owned numerous other garlic presses and never felt compelled to spend over $10 for one until a sales clerk finally convinced me to try a Zyliss. WOW! I threw out the last of my remaining cheapies. I never imagined such a difference was possible. I know I will never again trust a different press. YES... it is THAT good. Why?

1. Other presses I have owned did not work adequately unless the garlic was trimmed and peeled. This one eats up unpeeled cloves and strains them perfectly every time.

2. Other metal presses I have used have broken through in the area of the straining holes after a period of time due to fatigue of their poor materials. This is a svelte lightweight that weighs a small fraction of other presses. I expected it might not hold up at all. It turns out it is made of a very strong aluminum alloy that one might imagine being used in aircraft. It is quite thin, but it feels SO rigid I don't think I will ever have to replace it.

3. The included cleaning tool makes getting strands out of the holes a snap. The tool is stored under the hinge out of the way, but is easy to get to when you need it.

4. In the end, what I get most out of it is the simple pleasure of using it... I look forward to its every use. Instead of crushing and squirting inconsistent pulp, the Zyliss passes garlic crisply and perfectly in one quick motion accompanied by a satisfying 'crunch'. I know it seems a bit weird to obsess over a garlic press, but for one who truly enjoys and is serious about cooking it is like that favorite pan or knife without which cooking would not be the same. This press works so beautifully, it will actually inspire you think of garlic-laden dishes to prepare... just to use it again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Press, So-So Cleaner
This press is the best i've found -- it handles garlic with ease and even ginger! I'd had two presses break under the strain of the mighty ginger root, but this one held fast! Unfortunately, the cleaning piece is a bit iffy -- its prongs are easily bent and reduce the efficiency. However, this is a *minor* inconvience. Buy this, and press away!

5-0 out of 5 stars Garlic has never been easier to prepare!!!!!
This garlic press is amazing. It's very sturdy and will last a lifetime. It's larger size is easy to handle and does the job right.

What I really love about this is that you can leave the peel on the garlic and just pop it in the press! I love garlic but I hate the smell left on my hands after peeling and handling peeled garlic. This is such a strong press that there is almost NO garlic that hasn't been pressed out. The only thing left is the peel and the skin!

This gadget is also super easy to clean. The cleaning aid that comes with the press is very easy to use and cleans it quickly and completely.

I highly recommend this product! It's fast, efficient, and it nicely priced. It's worth every penny. ... Read more

Here's an electric appliance that provides a food processor's principal function--chopping and mincing--at a bargain price. Add compactness and ease of use to the price, and the sum is a handy, inexpensive tool for one- and two-person households, where efficiency is more important than large-scale, elaborate food preparation. At 135 watts, the motor is powerful enough to chop or mince vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cooked meats, and bread. The tough plastic bowl holds 3 cups and is calibrated in cups, ounces, liters, and milliliters, and the bowl, lid, and stainless-steel blade are dishwasher-safe. 1-0 out of 5 stars I returned the item- as soon as I tried it
I "tried" chopping slices (small ones) of green peppers and was disappointed as the chopper wasn't powerful enough to do that simple job. <br /> Looks nnice but....

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
For the price it works fairly well. Don't fill past the 1/2 full level or take a very long time on high to get the food smooth. If you don't want the food smooth, only chunky/chopped, then this is a good product for that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is it worth the price?
Within three months of receiving this item (as a wedding present)
one of the hinges on the lid fell off. The unit still functions properly, but I would think twice before spending [the money].

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for small jobs only
This food processor is tiny and is great for chopping veggies and mincing garlic. The blades attachment, however, did cause a small leak when blending liquids. Also, you can't leave it running for more than a few seconds, because the motor starts to emit a burning sound.

Overall, good for quick kitchen jobs and it's a bargain...I mean, those manual Zyliss food choppers cost that much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
I was so excited at the prospect of having a 3-cup mini chopper. I thought it would be ideal for hummus, which I hate to scrape out of my blender. However, it was very disappointing. On either speed, it just seems to chop what is in the center, so the stuff on the inside stays on the inside and the outside stuff stays on the outside--unchopped. If I wanted to take the lid off every two seconds and move everything around, I'd use the blender, no? I nearly pureed some red pepper, trying to get it all chopped. I have a 2 cup mini chopper (Procter-Silex, I think) that is really much better at consistent chopping. I never had to take the top off of it. Unfortunately, the bowl got warped in the dishwasher (even though it claimed to be dishwasher safe) and the lid does not fit tightly now, making an occasional mess with liquids and crumbs. Still, even warped, I find myself using the old one instead of this new one--it is really that bad!! ... Read more

More health-conscious cooks are discovering the nutritional benefits of flax seeds. Rich in omega-3 fats, flax seeds are known to promote better cardiovascular health and to give the immune system a boost. In addition, flax seeds have huge concentrations of lignin, a phytonutrient that many health experts believe has anti-cancer properties.

Because flax seeds are so hard, it is necessary to grind them for easier digestion. This grinder from Oxo stores whole seeds in its lower glass bottle and then tips over to grind them right from its built-in mechanism. The grinding mechanism is made out of a durable ceramic that won’t rust, corrode or affect the flavor of the seeds. The grind can be adjusted to five different positions from coarse to fine. A soft grip around the grinder cushions the hand while grinding and marks within the lid let you measure out the proper amount of flax seeds from 1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon. When the bottle needs refilling, a button on the grinder’s side easily releases the entire top. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Only good for seasoning, not for reasonable quantity
I bought this grinder so that I can get fresh flax seed meal every time I need it instead of buying prepackaged flax seed meal from health food store. I was very disappointed that it works like an ordinary seasoning grinder. It is fine if you want to only sprinkle a little on top of your food. But, if you plan to get 1 to 2 oz of flax seed meal a day as recommended, forget it, because you will have to be very very patient and work hard too -- just keep grinding and grinding for at least 15-20 minutes. I think this device is stupid. Why charge so much? I can get a spice grinder for a few bucks. It is not designed for handling a reasonable amount of flax seed. When I set it to coarse, flax seed comes out almost intact. When I set it to fine, only bits come out and broken flax seeds are attached to the surface of the teeth of the grinder.

5-0 out of 5 stars finally! an easy way to add flax seed to your diet
flax seed is one of those healthy foods that I have wanted to add to my diet - but until the OXO Grinder could not figure out how. Now with this Grinder I add a few tablespoons of ground flax seed to my breakfast (cereal, yogurt or smoothies) to get all the nutrients I need. It is so easy, and convenient to keep this nice looking grinder on my table for quick use. Finally!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product!
I put flax seed in my cereal every morning and love this grinder. Since I only eat the daily recommended allowance of 2 tablespoons, it's perfect. However, if I had grind a large quantity, I would not use this. It's a convenient item and none of that annoying noise from the electric ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars OXO Spices - The Best
This is an absolutely wonderful product!!! I was searching for a flax seed grinder when I found OXO grind its. I purchased 3 different grind its to try including the flax seed grinder. They all came with easy-to-use instructions and I had no trouble figuring out how to use them. I absolutely LOVE all of the grind its I have purchased. I plan to keep adding these to my collection. You really should try them.

This tool makes dicing onions so quick and easy you won't have time for tears, it cuts sticks of many other vegetables, and makes short work of hard and firm fruit for fruit salads. Just lift the upper side, place a halved or quartered vegetable or fruit on the channelled food platform, and bring the super sharp blade grid down with one smooth firm stroke. For rough dice of solid vegetables or fruit, line up the sticks with the grid before cutting again. The tool rinses clean or goes on the top rack of the dishwasher and stores flat. For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. For ease in resting the grater on the counter while in use, there's a hard acrylic frame around the metal. The frame also prevents scratches to your countertop. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the slightly curved grating surface makes it easy to use with oddly shaped chunks of chocolate. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing.
Get ready for some serious gushing. You really need this.

It's hard to describe how much better the microplane is than any other cheap, old-fashioned, knuckle-scraping box grater, or even most of the competing "modern" graters. The cheese goes where you want it to, you don't break a sweat, and there's nothing awkward or strenuous about the action. You have the handle in one hand, and the cheese (or what have you) in the other, and you just rub smoothly back and forth. No effort required. This is really one of those kitchen gadgets that makes you wonder where it's been all your life --- I never even stopped to think about how much of a chore grating was until I got one of these. I got one for my mother, grandmother, sister, and mother-in-law, and they're all equally amazed. (Well, maybe not quite as effusive about it as I am, but they really like them)

After two years of owning my microplane, I use it as much as ever. I can't tell you how delightful it is to have effortless grated cheese every time I serve pasta. The construction is solid, and it doesn't dull. One of these days, I'm going to get around to buying the rest of the microplane line -- the zester (which I think is their original product and looks just like a rasp), the spice grater, and the different grades of this style. But for now this does the trick in every situation. I love this thing like I've never loved a kitchen gadget.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Kitchen Hand Appliance!
This is the best grater I have owned, and I am a kitchen wizard (nothing makes me happier than a good day of cooking - well, almost nothing).I have used it for all my holiday cheese grating, and have been surprised at how effortless it is. It saves your fingers unlike the tripod grater or plane graters. The light delicate flakes are great in baking, in salads and as garnish. I'l repeat EFFORTLESS EFFORTLESS EFFORTLESS. I hadn't believed others who said how easy it is to grate with this but they are right! Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another rave review...
Microplane also makes a fabulous zester (all cooks know that the words fabulous and zester are contradictory but not so in this case!). Same overall shape as this item but narrower, with smaller holes. The company calls it a grater-zester. Many people who reviewed that item use it for grating cheese as well.

But for me, THIS is the cheese grater. It has any type of cheese begging for mercy in mere seconds, as the grater-zester does with the dreaded citrus, nutmeg, ginger, etc. True, the company says its zester will grate hard cheese -- and THIS grater can also make zest (although larger and coarser than the grater-zester creates).

Both items are well-made, sturdy, easy to hold & balance, and *VERY* sharp. My personal opinion and experience: try both.

5-0 out of 5 stars perfect cheese curls
this grater cuts cheddar, colby etc cheeses into short curls that melt or blend perfectly into sauces, omelets, or toppings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hasn't rusted yet!!!
I bought this grater along with the fine grater about 6 months ago. I LOVE IT!!! It does the job flawlessly. The one thing about which I was concerned was RUST! I have hard water with a lot of iron and sulphur. Other so called "stainless steel" items rusted within months. These 2 graters show absolutely no sign of rusting! They're the real deal! They remain sharp, rust-free, easy to use, and they just so happen to be attractive hanging on my utensil bar! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Never do manual again
This thing is fabulous. I got CHEAP too at a huge statewide store. I like my fresh onions grated very fine, this thing does no prob. I highly recommend I just love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most useful kitchen gadgets I own
I received the Ergo as a Christmas gift. At first, I really didn't think it would see much action - we'd just purchased a higher-end combination blender/processor with a gift certificate, and planned on using it often.

Six months later, and guess which has spent more time out of the closet? The Ergo. It's so very light and simple and surprisingly effective, and, unlike the blender/processor, you can store what you've chopped in the fridge right in the container! The plastic foot/lid is pure genius. I love the unit's compactness and clean, solid design.

Cleanup is a breeze. Even though the top isn't submersible, I've had no problem wiping it thoroughly enough with a soapy wet cloth if I take care of it directly after chopping. The other parts are all billed as dishwasher-safe, but it takes our family of two about three or four days to fill the dishwasher, and I use the chopper more often than that.

My cute little Ergo has become a true kitchen essential. I'd be one very unhappy cook if someone were cruel enough to take it away!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value.
This is my 3rd mincer/chopper. I've been using this for almost 3 months, a few times a week, to chop veggies and mince small amounts of meat, as well as occasionally milling rolled oats (so they'll cook faster). It has done a great job with all these foods, even the meats! The blades are nice and sharp, and the design is simple and comfortable. The one complaint I have is with cleaning: while the blade and container are very easy to clean, the lid/motor is NOT since obviously it isn't submersible. The manual directs the user to simply wipe it clean, but if you've just minced some meat, soap and hot water would be much more ideal, to say the least. Perhaps in the future B&D could incorporate some kind of snap-off liner for the lid, that could be removed and washed well. Right now I spray it down with rubbing alcohol and wipe it down a few times.
I would have given this unit 4 or 5 stars otherwise, because it's cheaper than most others I've seen, while still doing a great job (I realize my sanitary methods sound obsessive, and they are...I worked in a lab for years doing bacterial culture, and let's just say that I've seen what's out there, and I don't want it in my food!)

5-0 out of 5 stars love it!
my boyfriend and i were amazed at how effortlessly this little gadget chops things. as a person who has killed the motor in two cuisinart mini preps, i really was glad to see this chopper goes and goes with no sign of losing power. and the price -- amazing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Designed as though lives depended on it.
This impressive piece of hardware feels like anything but a kitchen tool - more like surgical or scientific equipment.

I've owned several cheaper garlic presses and rarely used them. The amount of time saved in the kitchen was lost when trying to clean the gadget.

By contract; The Rosle press works flawlessly and cleans easily. This is the only Rosle tool I own - most of the rest seem either over-engineered or impractical.

The genius lies in the flip-up press plate that allows you to instantly clear the plate and load another clove.

Bottom line: This is a tool that will get used, since it works flawlessly and stays clean easily.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Press Yet
This is a heavy duty garlic press, that has held up over time. I like that it doesn't get discolored, presses garlic easily, and cleans easily, due to the feature that swings the "grill" out when you twist the handles back. Just rinse/pull away the garlic skins and flip the handles back together. I highly recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Depressing
What a disappointment, this was supposed to be the best garlic-press available, yet upon pressing just the second clove of garlic it bent, slightly yes, but now the snap-close feature no longer works so when it is hung on a hook it falls open. If it cost $10-$15 I would probably keep it as it does do a great job of pressing garlic and it is easy to clean but at $35 I expect it to be prefect. So I am returning it. It is truly a shame as if they just made it with slightly thicker steel it probably would be the finest press available. Depressing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Is it wrong to love a garlic press?
I just got the Rosle garlic press a few weeks ago and I love it. It's easy to use and easy to clean. It has a nice weight to it. It feels like a tool that will last many years. I had obsessively read all the customer reviews on Amazon for various garlic presses and I decided to spend the extra cash on this model. Completely worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I bought two....
I saw this in the catalog - and decided to get one. It was a bit pricey, but I figured it might be worth the money (a bit of a gamble).

This is THE BEST garlic press I have used yet. Granted, that only covers 14 other presses, but this one is the best. period. First of all - it is nice, heavy stainless steel. There are no parts to lose - this thing is engineered better than my little german VW diesel golf.

The handle folds all the way back, exposing the grate for easy cleanup. The press mechanism itself is mechanically assisted - that is to say - it is a small lever - it multiplies the force to crush the clove, so you don't have to squeeze as hard. The pins on the hinge are nice, HEAVY pins. This thing isn't coming apart like those cheap aluminum ones.

Handles are solid stainless steel - this thing is great.

If you are even thinking about getting a different one - think again. Then get this one instead.

You won't be dissapointed.

The ONLY thing that could be improved on this press would be if I could buy them at a cheaper price.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another replacement
Years and years ago, someone gave my mother a salad shooter. She was so impressed - and Mother knew everything "kitchen" - she bought me one. I don't even know how many years I had it, but she has been gone for 6 years, and it was long before that. Well, last week, it was grating some potatoes for me, and it just gave up the ghost. For some reason, I'd never considered that that could happen! My beloved salad shooter was no more. Well, guess what! I came right to my computer and ordered another one, which, thank goodness, came today.
Maybe I should stock up in case they stop making them! How does anyone cook without a salad shooter?

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Present Ever
When these first came out about 12 years ago, my son gave me one for a Christmas present. Needless to say, I laughed when I opend it, expecting a sweater. However, once I used it, my feelings quickly changed! Through these last 12 years or so, the salad shooter has been one of my most used kitchen appliances. I was broken hearted when it finally cracked after years of use. However, after a ceremonial placement in the garbage, I have ordered a new one to fill the void. If you ever shred cabbage, cheese or anything else, this is the tool for you! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the right person
For a person with good or even fair knife skills this is really just one more tool to wash but for the right person this is a very helpful tool.

I bought this for someone with limited use of one of her hands. Chopping was a hard thing, even using a knife was difficult. This is very helpful to her. I can see this also being good for getting when your kids help you in the kitchen.

Dry things like nuts or hard drier vegetables (broccoli, celery, etc) chop faster and more evenly because they dont *stick* to the blades. things with a higher water content (like onions and mushrooms) tend not to drop back down as well, but may stick a bit on to the blade...so you may end up with some large chunks and some teeny bits. Overall this isnt a huge problem and for the person who really benefits from this, this is really not much of an issue at all.

If your not going to wash this right away, at least rinse the little bits off of it so they don't dry on the unit or it will be very hard to clean (personal experience).

This is a great thing for the person who could benefit the most from it

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick and Easy
I really love the color. I bought a red one to match my red kitchenaid kitchen and my mom bought the blue one. We both love it. It chops things up fast without having to plug it in. The only bad thing is the cleaning. Its best to clean it right after you use it. Otherwise, the food gets stuck and it is a little harder to clean in the grooves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Multi Food Chopper
It's going to be great because it's KitchenAid.....
I'm just not happy because it's blue. From the picture I ordered it from, and the fact you didn't get to choose the color I assumed it was going to be BLACK!! So much for assumeing. We all know what that does to you!! ... Read more

This revolving spice rack takes the challenge out of keeping herbs and spices organized. On the countertop or in a tall kitchen cabinet, it holds 16 clear glass jars prefilled with a variety of seasonings. Measuring 10-1/2 inches tall and made of natural wood, the rack maintains jars on their side, so it's easy to read the label printed on the cap. Each rack comes with a different set of common herbs and spices, such as basil, dill, and parsley, plus unique custom blends, such as pizza, Cajun, and fish seasonings. --Lynne Sampson ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Spice rack, but what is with some of the spices.
I think that overall this is a great product. It looks great and has a very practical design. The only problem that I have with it is that some of the spices are not practical. Personally, I would have preferred some others instead of Corriander & Mustard Seed. However I have found identical glass jars for as little as $.69, made my own labels and just filled them with the spices I preferred. All in all I would recommend this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Functional
We have had this spice rack for several years. It has held up well and we have used most of the spices. I have yet to figure out what a couple of them are for though... It is a nice sturdy wood and it fits nicely back under the upper cabinets (it isn't too tall). It would look/work great in almost any kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars good stuff
We recieved this as a wedding gift and love it. My husband loves to cook and mix different spices, and it's great to have them all in one space rather than separate containers cluttering up shelf (or counter) space. Any spices we don't use can also be easily replaced and re-labeled.

5-0 out of 5 stars No broken caps here!
I received this as a wedding shower gift recently and it has been great. I had no caps broken as others did and it matches nicely with any kitchen decor. A good buy with a decent variety of spices.

This large garlic press quickly squeezes out up to three cloves of garlic at a time or one clove of elephant garlic for making pesto or homemade broth and doesn’t even require you to peel the cloves. The plunger is designed to press out the maximum amount of garlic and juice so little goes to waste and to prevent peelings from slipping through the press. The ergonomically designed handle provides better leverage during pressing and more comfortable squeezing. This garlic press comes with a cleaning tool with prongs for cleaning out the holes and a flat end for scooping out peelings. 1-0 out of 5 stars Just another garlic press that does not work
Does not work because the holes are too small. I tried to press one pealed garlic and I used all my strengh still no crushed garlic came out of it. I asked for my husband's help and he almost broke it because he was pressing it so hard. This time just a meager amound of garlic came out of it most of it stayed jamed inside the press.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and clean
Using a Garlic Press is a great way to partake in teh pleasures of Garlic, but the cleaning of these things is the downfall. The cleaning device that accompanies this press makes the cleaning almost a breeze.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best garlic press available
I've used many a garlic press in my culinary career and most of them were terrible. This one is sensational (if such a thing can be said about such a humble implement). Easy to use and clean, it produces maximum garlic output even from unpeeled cloves. I'm buying a new one because the cleaning tool fell into the clutches -- jaws, actually -- of the puppy and perished. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent press...has a tendency to break though.
An absolutely brilliant garlic-press. Wide-handled for ease and, dare I say it, power. It feels like you can crush steel in the press. The flip side of the press is affixed with a plastic push (the red part visible in the photo) which makes removing the remnants of the garlic clove very easy. The only downside, as one other reviewed aptly pointed out, is that the hinge tends to break after time. Truthfully, I've only broken one and that was after I tried to press three large cloves at once. So, after having said that, perhaps you should take my "tends to break" comment with a grain of salt (or garlic as the case may be).

In short, a very good and affordable press which you will enjoy for a long time. I've bought many for friends and family I love it so much.

Lastly, to the reviewer from NY below who is amazed that the handles (which CAN be pulled off by the way) absorb water in the dishwasher...here's an idea: try washing it by hand. If you are unable to wash it by hand, just pull off the handles...they easily slide back on.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'll buy a new one every year if I have to
I love fresh garlic and always add 2-3 times the number of cloves called for in recipes. However, as everyone knows, it's a pain to peel, chop/mince, etc., and that has kept me from using it as much as I would like. I've tried several inexpensive presses over the years (as I couldn't afford anything else) -- none worked well, and they all quickly broke. Two years ago I broke down and purchased a Tupperware garlic press.... It's very sturdy, cleans easily, and does a great job compared to others I've used. I was so impressed that I bought it as a gift for 2 garlic-loving friends since that time.

THEN....THEN...THEN I bought the OXO on a whim while in a kitchen store to keep at a second home.

My love affair with my Tupperware press has ended. I've read the other reviews that warn of the durability problems with the OXO press, and I don't care. Pressing garlic with this thing is absolutely effortless -- as is clean-up. In combination with my little "green plastic tube garlic skin remover" (have no idea what it's called, but if you use a lot of garlic, you must get one -- got mine at Williams Sonoma), I actually find pressing fresh garlic fun (yes, my life is a bit dull), and contributed three garlic-filled dishes to our family Easter dinner this year.

I fugure I can buy a new one every year for the next 4 years for what I spent on the Tupperware press; it's that easy to use -- really -- you won't mind replacing it (hey, don't buy coffee on the way to work for a few days, and it's paid for).

1-0 out of 5 stars press was a mess!
i had the same problem with our OXO good grips garlic press as many others here.

1) the rubber handles needed to be taken off everytime we put this in the dishwasher.
2) the red, plastic, cleaning attachment fell off of it too.

so because of these two reasons it was a pain to get washed every time we used it. then yesterday, it broke and i had just bought it a year ago. it snapped in half! overall, it was not a pleasant experience. the next one i buy will have less attachments and a heftier construction.

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks sturdy, but it's not
I liked the stocky construction of this press when I bought it. It seemed solid. But, it has a few problems.

1. the rubber handles slip--this is a minor problem.
2. liquefied garlic oozes out the sides--this is often the part of the garlic you want, so you scrape it off--kind of annoying.
3. it leaves a large part of the garlic uncrushed
4. after only a few months' use, the hinges break completely, and into the trash it goes

I did find this press cleans up fast and easily. That's its main strength. But, overall, I was unhappy with the longevity of this item.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great products and great customer service from OXO!
Unlike more cheaply-made versions, this garlic press feels firm and weighty in your hands, and it does an excellent job of producing finely minced garlic. The red rubber fingers ensure that the piece cleans easily and thoroughly. I did experience a problem with the garlic press, however: recently, the red cleaning fingers would no longer line up with the holes, and after I continued to use it this way for a few more weeks, the press eventually broke in two. Luckily, when I contacted OXO via email, they told me that they stand behind their products 100%; they sent me a new garlic press free of charge, and I received it in less than a week. You can't lose with OXO! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This aesthetically pleasing herb-chopping bowl is perfectly designed for its function. The slightly scooped bowl holds a handful of fresh herbs while you gently rock the curved mezzaluna ("half-moon") blade to chop them to the desired fineness. The matching curves of bowl and knife work perfectly to turn what can be a tedious task into a pleasing one. The modest size of the bowl (9-1/2 inches square) means that it's easy to pick up to add the herbs to your cooking. Don't be tempted to wash the bowl or blade in the dishwasher: the natural wood and oil finish require careful cleaning by hand with a mild soap. (Other extremes of moisture and temperature should also be avoided.) The bowl can be easily stored on its side, but it's so handsome, you may want to keep it out. --Sherry Smith ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a must have for herb gardeners!
I bought this for my husband (the chef in our home) last year and he still raves about it. We use a lot of fresh herbs in our cooking, and this tool has made it much easier to mince them *safely*. It cleans up easily and looks great too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Chopping herbs has never been easier
I saw this exact Mezzaluna chopper in an article about herbs in a recent issue of Cooking Light. It seemed to be the perfect alternative to chopping herbs on a flat surface. With the Mezzaluna you don't have to keep gathering the chopped herbs back to the center of the board, they fall back to the center naturally. Your fingers aren't in danger of being chopped off in the process either, because you don't have to hold the herbs while you chop. Just rock the *very sharp* curved blade over the herbs. Achieving "minced" has never been easier, or faster. This chopper is of *excellent* quality, and worth the price! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great spice rack!
I just received my spice rack and I love it! It looks very nice and the price is a bargain. Other places sell just the rack without the spices for a much higher price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great rack and jars, awful spice variety
I received this as a wedding gift, after selecting it for my bridal registry. I knew that the spices were going to vary, but 12 of the 16 spices were duplicates! I ended up with 2 each of dill weed, caraway seed, oregano, italian seasoning, celery salt and mustard seed, and 1 each of parsley, savory, rosemary, and thyme. (sing along...) It would have been nice to have paprika, basil, garlic salt/powder,seasoning salt, salad seasoning, or bay leaves. 2 jars of mustard and caraway seed is too much, and I am a trained cook. The rack is beautiful and is nice and bottom heavy so it won't tip over, and it turns effortlessly. There is a note on the back of the re-order sheet that says "spices are packed due to availability at the time of packaging." that's fine, but at least give me 16 different items! I will most likely buy new spices and blank labels at the dollar store.

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this rack!
One of the first pieces I bought for my new kitchen. It looks great with my other chrome accessories and I used up several of the spices quickly. The bottles are bigger than most of the itty-bitty spice racks on the market and the spices fill them all the way. It spins well and even with my clumsy kitchen fingers, I haven't broken a bottle yet in the 11 months I've owned my set even after a few hit the floor.

3-0 out of 5 stars The spices are fine, but Kamenstein isn't consumer friendly!
I took these out of the box last night, and made an interesting discovery. I pulled out the rack, and opened a box of spices and put them in the rack. Everything fine so far. Then I open another box, and they have black plastic lids. I open the last box, chrome again. So I've got a rack that looks like I picked it up at the ghetto shop.

So, I figured what the heck, no big deal. I'll call them and they'll say, "Oh, our mistake, we'll mail you the matching ones, no charge. You can just send us the others."
Well, they might say that but first you have to contact them. Their order form does not have their phone number on it (though the column for phone on the ordering slip is marked "Required"). I spent the last hour searching for Kamenstein on the web and can't find them. I mean, I can buy their products, but can't find a website or contact info.

At this point I'm going to have to try to track down their mailing address for ordering new spices that was on the enclosed reorder form so that I can see if there is a phone number linked to it.

*****Final Thoughts*****
The spices are fine.

I'm sure it was just a fluke that the wrong color was included. I also figure that once I get in contact, the "ugliness" of chrome with black plastic will be fixed. But I can't understand why a company would hide itself away like this. I couldn't even find info when I searched pretending to be a distributer who wanted to by in mass quantity!

5-0 out of 5 stars Chrome Spice Rack
Excellent purchase. Maybe I cook a little bit more than most, but this spice rack contained about 95% of what I consider to be common spices in everyday cooking (garlic salt, parsley, oregano, basil, etc.) and I liked the extra spices of "Pizza seasoning" and the "Italian seasoning"...great additions to cooking spaghetti and pizza. Our kitchen has black and chrome appliances. This goes great!!! I really recommend it for the price. Spices are expensive. ... Read more
