Amazon.com Review

This ice-cream scoop has sharp metal edges that cut perfectly round balls from even the hardest ice cream, frozen yogurt, or sorbet. The handle is ergonomically designed for holding with a fist while keeping hands and wrists from feeling strained. For safety, the handle is made of non-slip plastic that provides a secure grip and insulates hands from the cold temperature of the scoop. For long-term durability, the handle is coated with UV protection to prevent it from ever yellowing. This ice-cream scoop is comfortable for either righties or lefties to use and is covered by Zyliss under a five-year warranty from the date of purchase. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Like an old-time scoop that grandma might have. But this one has a unique scoop design that has the benefits of a blade and a scoop in one. Perfect weight and balance as well. Very well done.

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty close
my family loves ice cream before bed nightly. i have amassed quite a collection of scoopers and scrapers but this item feels different from the get-go. it weighs something in your hand, a heft that makes the job easier. the actual scoop might be a bit larger but it makes for a pretty presentation. way to go zyliss!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
When I first got this product, I thought how good could an ice cream scoop be. I have 3 other ice crean scoops, two plastic and 1 metal. This award winning scoop surprised me (pleasantly) in two ways: 1. because of the heaviness and the solid metal scoop (specially shaped), any ice cream - hard or soft, just comes out of the container sooo... easily. I couldn't believe how easy. and 2) again because of the heavy metal scoop design, the ice cream, for some reason, just easily rolls of the scoop. I don't have to shake, nor do i ever warm the scoop in water. I am sure if you do dip the scoop in warm water before use, it will be even better, since the thick metal will retain heat longer.

Finally, the ergonomic design feels so comfortable, it makes the gadget fun to use. I never thought an ice cream scoop would take up so much space in a review from me. But believe me , it is worth the money and more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Scooper
Hard ice cream iis sometimes difficult to scoop. The Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop does the job.

You know B-R. These people use scoops for a living. Bad scoops make bad business, and so they need what works. They put their name on this one, and it works like it should.

More than just a glorified spoon, it has one of those things which pops the ice cream out. If you've never used it, you'll find that feature very handy.

I came in contact with a variety of scoops at an event at which I was a scooper. Lots of people. Lots of ice cream. Speed makes a difference. The Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop will meet your general ice cream scooping needs.

I fully recommend the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Scoop.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the real deal. Everything else is a toy.
This is the best scoop ever! Do not confuse this with the flimsy scoops you purchase from the grocery or department store-- you can just throw them away! Its real heavy and the teeth cut though the ice cream like butter. Plus the release button on top allows you to perfectly place scoops onto your cone-- no other ice cream scoop has that.

Btw the secret to making perfectly round ice cream scoops is rinsing the scooper after every scoop. That way the ice cream never gets stuck/freezes in the scoop. Don't fall for the scoops that claim to be "non-stick" or the microwavable ones-- not worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Winner
This is the best ice cream scoop made! Makes a nice round ball of ice cream that easily releases. Handle is easy to hold if you have trouble with carpel tunnel or arthritis. Have tried many types of scoops, but this one is the one that really works. Purchasing this as a "stocking stuffer" for everyone this upcoming holiday season.

2-0 out of 5 stars close but not the same scoop used in stores
As a former Baskin Robbins owner for 20 years I can attest to the fact that this is NOT the scoop used in BR stores. Our 25+ year old scoops are still bright and shiny-- and solid stainless steel, very heavy. Also, there is no name inscribed in the actual scoops. The newer "real" scoops used today have a serrated edge. But the operation of the scoop can't be beat-it is the best designed scoop there is. But this resale item is merely a cheaper version of the real thing (which currently costs over $25 from the only approved smallwares supplier BR has and can only sell to BR stores!)

How many times have you bent a cheap spoon in a rock-hard pint of ice cream? You need a sturdy scoop like this one to get the job done. The comfortably wide 6-inch-long handle makes for a more powerful grip, and the capacious bowl is almost 3 inches deep--big enough for the most ambitious helping of mocha chip. There's no release lever to get the ice cream out of the scoop, but otherwise, this is the perfect tool for that anonymous midnight raid on your icebox. I scream, you scream.... --Mary Park ... I love this scoop. At first I was surprised how big it is, but it feels great in my hand and works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great KitchenAid product!
Ok, I absolutely LOVE this ice cream scoop. The design is perfect for scooping (the front is higher, it scoops soo nicely in to round little balls), and the handle is thick and heavy, which makes it much easier to control, especially when scooping thicker ice creams. So far, this is my favorite ice cream scoop - I've had absolutely NO complaints about it! And as with most of my other KitchenAid products, it goes in the dishwasher with no problem! ... Read more

From the outside, this looks like an average ice cream scoop. It's crafted from durable, polished nonstick aluminum, has a classic design, and fits comfortably in your hand. The secret ingredient, however, is so radical that Zeroll products have been displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City: The handle is filled with a permanent, safe defrosting fluid that responds to the warmth of a hand. Hence the scoop cuts into even the hardest ice cream--and the ice cream will slide right off. So, stop bending spoons and start enjoying your dessert! --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Shipping prices are ridiculous
$9.95 on shipping for this item. I wish I would have realized that before I purchased, but it was in a large order. Give me a break. I won't buy from them again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best
I have one of these ice cream scoops too (I have quite a collection, but I am a self-proclaimed icecreamaholic) and while I do like it, it's far from my favorite. I personally like the KitchenAid scooper much better.

This one is good too though, and does slightly melt the ice cream which helps in scooping. I run mine through the dishwasher all the time and never had an issue. The nonstick surface is also really nice, it makes the ice cream slide off the scoop easily in to the bowl. Also, the feel of the handle is nice, though the grip isn't as good as some other scoopers - mine is slightly slippery while my KitchenAid scooper has a much firmer grip! I still give it 5 stars, it does its job well!

1-0 out of 5 stars Wait 'til it ages a bit...
I've had one of these for almost a decade and love the way it handles ice cream. Unfortunately, as the finish ages, the dark color from the scoop is transferred to the ice cream: a most undesirable effect.
Seriously, just buy the regular, not-nonstick version. The real secret is the conductivity of the anti-freeze solution and the aluminum that encases it. The solution readily transfers heat from your hand to the handle, to the liquid, which warms the scoop ever so slightly after you scoop. By pre-warming the handle & liquid in lukewarm (NOT HOT) water for 90 seconds, you'll allow the scoop to release the scooped ice cream faster. Also, that 90 seconds actually lets the ice cream temper before you scoop. The end result: no-longer rock hard ice cream that you can readily scoop and virtually drop in a dish or on a cone. Note: if the surface of the scooped ice cream retains a liquid appearance for more than a few moments or (Eek!) if liquified cream runs off of the ice cream, you've over-heated the handle. Don't worry, just a bit of practice...

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Grade
I used these scoops for the two years that I worked at Brigham's (an ice cream parlor) while in high school. For those two years of daily use and abuse I never had a complaint with the usefulness of these scoops. They were even run through a commercial dishwasher every night.

I have one in my kitchen now that the shop had retired nearly twenty years ago and it still scoops better than anything else that I've used.

They do work best when you wet the scoop before starting and rewetting from time to time.

The scoop might be expensive, but it will probably be the last scoop you or your childen or their children will ever need to purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
For years I've been fed up with lousy ice cream scoops and vowed to someday find a really good one. When I saw this one I thought, "Wholly cow, how can someone justify spending [such an amount] on an ice cream scoop?" Well, I bought it anyway and I do not regret it. It is wonderful; even better than I had hoped. It cuts hard ice cream like butter and is beyond sturdy; it should last generations. Negatives are that it can't go in the dishwasher and high price. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars this baby is sooo solid
How much can you say about an ice cream scoop right? Well not that much other than to say this thing works GREAT! I mean really really great. It weighs about a ton and it cuts through the most rock solid dairy product like it was made of Kryptonite. And it cleans up so easy. Just a quick rinse and its back in the draw ready to go. Other features include a nonstick coating that quickly and easily releases all forms of ice cream and frozen yogurt, including soft serve, and a relatively flat back surface for clearing out square containers as well as round. In addition, the scoop includes a comfortable, ergonomically sound nonslip handle with a hanging hole, as do all other Good Grips products. 5-0 out of 5 stars My wife and I are in love...
...with this ice cream spade. I gotta warn you though, it's not for the weak or the timid. But if you're serious ice cream lovers like we are, despise those ball scoopers and other cheap, almost useless excuses for an ice cream scoop, this is the ticket. Heavy, strong, sturdy, but stylish and comfortable, too, this may be the best 10 bucks we've spent this year. It will work better than any other ice cream scoop you may have. It it quality and I do not ever expect it to break. This makes it scoop very easily, while keeping all ice cream not in immediate contact with the scoop firm. A terrific tool!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't do everything, but isn't bad.
I started using the flat ice cream scoops a few years ago, and while they DO work better scooping ice cream away from the sides of the box, I kinda miss the nice round scoops! Anyways, this particular scoop is pretty good, although slightly TOO flat - ice cream slides easily off the edge if you're not careful! It does scoop all ice creams I've tried very well and I have no complaints, though I doubt the liquid handle thing did much. My only issue - it can't go in the dishwasher! It does clean easily though, but I prefer to toss stuff in the dishwasher when I can!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Made Relic
This ice cream spade is well-made, looks good, & gets the ice cream out of the box better than most scoops. I like the retro design (it's fashioned after the original 1930s model), but I have three minor complaints. First, the spade is a bit too flat & sometimes the ice cream will roll off it. Second, the handle (which is filled with some sort of liquid like anti-freeze) suposedly helps to melt the ice cream by conducting the warmth of your hand down the handle; this feature just doesn't work. For it to work, you'd have to grip the handle tightly for 15 minutes before using it, to warm it up, but even then there wouldn't be enough heat generated from your hand to make this concept work. Third, probably because of the liquid in the handle, it's not recommended for the dishwasher (no big deal, just wash it like they did in the 1930s, by hand!). Also, the price is a bit too much, even though it's a high quality product. I would recommend the Kitchen Aide spade over this one; it's half the price & does the job just as well or better.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!
Our 'iron test' for any ice cream gadget is a very well-known brand of nonfat frozen yogurt. For some reason in the freezer it gets hard enough to make a patio out of, but the Zeroll spade goes right through it. Not sure the liquid in the handle really helps, probably more the excellent design -- i.e., handle size, leverage, heft, etc. At any rate, the liquid seems to keep the handle from getting icy-cold while scooping, which is nice for arthritic hands. PLEASE note that the box says on the back but in much-too-small print : DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER. It rinses off perfectly after use in ordinary tapwater so no problem. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Heavy, sturdy, and stylish, this ice-cream spade has a die-cast head for strength and durability, an enamel-like handle for beauty, and dishwasher safety for convenience. The spade's head is 4 inches long and 2-3/4 inches wide for digging into the hardest ice cream, and its handle is shaped for a firm grip and has a hanging hole in the end. The spade measures 9-1/2 inches long overall. KitchenAid says the first year of the spade's lifetime warranty against defects is "hassle-free," with a replacement shipped at no cost and without question if a defect is detected. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A SUPER ICE CREAM SPADE!
No one will ever know how many years I've spent trying to dig rock hard ice cream out of its container. Our size of choice is a 1/2 gal. container (Rocky Road, preferably, and the traditional scoop is almost useless - it just makes little nicks.

For a while, in desperation, I popped the container into the mircrowave for about 45 seconds to "loosen" the edges - it was still a chore. I found that a soup spoon worked better than the scoop.

Then, a friend who knows our penchant for a bowl of the creamy treat before bedtime gifted us with this ice cream spade. It's a perfect tool for serving ice cream. I'm able to dig it into the straight-from-the-freezer container and fill our bowls.

Sometimes, it's the little things that make life a joy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Why use a scoop when you can use a SPADE
This is one great tool. I have this as well as the scoop and they are both great items. I like the spade better since I LOVE ice cream and it makes it easier to fill the bowl quicker. The style is great and the functionality is superb. Now that Kitchenaid is making tools and gadgets, I am finding myself getting all new sorts of items I never knew I wanted or needed. I'm even replacing other brands of tools with Kitchenaid ones. ... Read more
