Classically shaped (center-tip style, with curved back and edge), this knife comes in handy at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In the afternoons, when no one is looking, it'll slice open a package. 5-0 out of 5 stars A superb knife
I received this paring knife (included in the course fee) when I took a Wusthof knife skills course at a local shop. It's everything a knife should be - sharp, solid, well-balanced, and a comfortable fit in the hand. Wusthof got the proportions of the classic-style handle about right; not too fine, not too chunky... just right for comfort and control. After the course I gave it to my mother, who was surprised at its sharpness. (I already owned a Henckels Pro-S 3" paring knife, which has a slightly longer handle... IMO the two knives are similar in quality.)

This is also the knife that inspired a friend who finally bought one to exclaim, "I'm surprised you didn't say, 'You call that a knife????? THIS is a knife!' when you were using my (old, stamped, serrated) knives!" She now understands my addiction to forged German steel.

As always, it's best to try several knives in person and see how they fit your hand before buying, but it would be hard to go wrong with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wusthof Classic 3 1/2 inch paring knife
This is a great addition to any kitchen. I think it will last for the rest of my life! Soon I hopefully can add more of this brand to our kitchen. I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality makes a difference
I've got a cheap-o chef's knife and I've got this little 3 1/2" Wüsthof paring knife. It's a testament to the quality of the Wüsthof that I'd rather use it, even for big knife jobs like chopping vegetables or cutting meat. The quality of the blade more than makes up for the lack in size.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy one of these and never need another
I strongly advise people to get GOOD knives. You don't end up with a drawer of junk, and you will grab for this one probably more than any other in the kitchen. This is my workhorse, and I love Wusthof knives. I've had a set for 20 years, and only replaced my paring knife because it was missing from my set after a move. I do everything with this, peel vegetables, cut dice, slice or dice onions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Knives!
This is the best paring knife we have ever used. I strongly disagree with the overkill knife theory! This is the first knife my wife reaches for cause she said it is her favorite one.
Every individual has different likes and dislikes. These knives are expensive, but you get quality and a very well made knife with a lifetime guarantee. Just try one & it should make you wonder why a person would want to use those cheaper brand knives as long as you can afford to buy Wusthof. ... Read more

Reducing kitchen cutlery down to the basics, this cutting duo offers a perfect start to any knife collection. Falling somewhere between a cleaver and a chef’s knife, the 7-inch Santoku knife functions as a kitchen mainstay. This all-purpose blade can be used for chopping, dicing, and slicing. The cutting edge features small oval-shaped grooves designed to trap air during use and prevent food from adhering to its sides. The accompanying 4-inch pairing knife offers the control and dexterity of a compact blade ideally suited to skinning, mincing, and chopping smaller items.

True to the Henckels name, both knives feature high-quality steel construction with added strength and stain-resistance thanks to a unique Friodur ice-hardening process. The blade sharpness cuts with minimal effort and will last for generations with regular maintenance. Secured by three steel rivets; a full, visible tang runs the length of the black synthetic handle and contributes to the Professional "S" series’s traditional look. A steel bolster protects knuckles during use and both pieces are dishwasher-safe--although hand washing is recommended. Manufactured in Germany; both knives are covered by a lifetime warranty. -- Amy Arnold

The 4-inch fine-edged blade on this knife features slightly curved surfaces on both the back and the cutting edge, terminating in a sharp point. The pronounced tip makes this a great choice for peeling and cutting fruits and vegetables and preparing meats. The blade is strong and firm; this is one of the most versatile knives around and a must for the kitchen of any would-be chef.

Part of the popular Four Star series, this hand-honed blade is made with Henckels's Sintermetal Component Technology (SCT), which allows three different grades of steel to be combined to form a single piece, fusing together the blade, bolster, and tang. What does this mean in layman's terms? A strong, high-quality knife that will last a lifetime.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm cookin' for a livin'...
This is the perfect size for a versatile paring knife and the 4 Star line is the most underrated line on this sight. When a rookie comes to work in my kitchen and asks me what line of knives to invest in I send 'em here for 4 Starz. These are the knives I started with in 1979 and I still use an 8 inch chef's.
A bargain in price, indestructable, sharp, easy to keep sharp, attractive and built since 1976...timeless.

Buy this one, an 8 inch chef's, an 8 inch bread, a 5.5 inch boning knife, a 10 inch steel and the Santoku. Add more as needed. Buy 'em now!

We be givin' the max...5 mojo*z

5-0 out of 5 stars The right knife for a lot of jobs
While the shorter paring knives are more commoly seen, this 4" paring knife is actually a better choice for many jobs. In our kitchen it gets many times the use of either the 3" paring knife or 6" utility knife. If I could only have two knives to do everything, I would choose this 4" paring knife and my Kershaw Shun granton edge Santoku. I use both of these more than any of the rest of our knives.

The Henckels Four Star is a well regarded premium German knife line whose pros and cons have been covered endlessly over the years, so I'll not revisit them. While I love the razor edge of my Kershaw knives, I prefer the more rugged durability of the Heckels Four Star for my paring and utility knives.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have
Excellent weight and shape, strong blade, very versatile. I've had this knife for twelve years--and for several of those years, in my poor-student days, it was the only knife I owned, apart from a couple of cheap hand-me-down steak knives. Now I have a block full of Wusthof-Trident (a gift) but this Henckels is still the knife I use the most.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite knife
I keep signing onto this site because I'm hoping my favorite knife will go on sale. I love the one I have so much, I'd like to buy a couple more. This is a great knife, my favorite, the one I use most.

Amazon.com Review

High tech from tip to handle, Global knives from Japan created a sensation when they burst onto the world's culinary stage as an alternative to traditional European-style cutlery. Blades are made of hard molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and "face-ground" with a long taper rather than a short bevel so edges remain sharp longer than even the best high-carbon stainless-steel knives. Edges also are ground at a more acute angle than traditional European-style knives and arrive from the factory razor-sharp. Although Global's original knives have thinner blades and are lighter than traditional European-style knives, Global also makes a European-style "heavyweight" line for cooks who prefer hefty cutlery--like this 3-inch paring knife for cleaning and peeling vegetables and fruits. Global also dispensed with bolsters on most of its knives, including this one. Most Global knives have hollow handles, but the handle on this knife is solid.

Stainless-steel handles are Global's most striking feature. They're molded to fit the hand and dimpled to resist slipping. Smaller around than many European-style handles, they're easy for small-handed cooks to grasp and seamless for sanitation. Global recommends using a ceramic sharpener or a diamond steel instead of a metal sharpening steel for its knives, supplemented by a synthetic whetstone, a ceramic whetstone, or a Shinkansen sharpener. Global also makes a sharpening guide rail so blades can be honed on a whetstone at the proper angle. Global knives should be hand washed to protect edges. They carry a lifetime warranty against defects and breakage. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars INDISPENSABLE IN THE KITCHEN
If there's one item most of us can't get along without in the kitchen it's a paring knife. It's a simple tool but necessary.

Pluses for this knife are the three inch blade - longer and it may not be manageable and the non-slip handle. Show me the person who can pare vegetables and fruit and keep their hands dry, thus an easy to grip handle that won't slide is a good safety precaution.

5-0 out of 5 stars Razor sharp and beautiful balance
Having been a Sabatier fan all my life, I was a little skeptical when I saw some of my chefs using these Japanese knives, but having handled them I decided to try one at home. I love this knife. It is beautifully balanced and takes an edge easily. I use it all the time and will get around to getting some larger ones when I can afford them! Right now, this is my all purpose knife for all veg prep and sundry general slicing and paring. It is no good for chopping, though they make plenty that are. Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good everyday knives
I got these knives 2 years ago and still have yet to sharpen them. They work great for every little thing I have to cut. The red knife is great for slicing through muffins or small loaves of bread, my husband likes it for cutting sandwiches. The little blue knife is great for peeling potatoes or apples and the other two do all kinds of various cuttings. I would definitely buy them again or give them as gifts. I also like the colored handles not only for the colors sake but they are easy to remember which knife is which when the handle is the only thing poking out of the cup I have them standing in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift idea!
I bought my married-with-kids sister a set of these colorful knives, and she absolutely loves them. She even bought sets for their vacation homes on the coast! They're inexpensive and are great for gift giving.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK, but don't expect too much!
I bought these knives on a special. I got what I paid for. I would have given 2 1/2 stars if that was an option. If you have more than one person cooking at the same time, it is nice to be able to grab a knife for some quick work rather than doing time share. However, these don't hold a candle to the real deal. Oh, they are colorful :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty and Pretty useful
I bought my first set of these as individual knives in a little shop in Salzburg a few years ago. I have wanted more ever since. The twingrip series is our favorite series of Henckels knives. This set is pretty, and they're always dirty, because we use at least one of them in preparing nearly every meal! I am ordering several sets -- for me and for gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely comfortable and useful set of knifes
I found this set of knifes to be both extremely comfortable and quite useful in and out of the kitchen. They appear to be ergonomically designed for comfort and fit (with excellent tactile feel), and they do not slip when paring or peeling wet fruit or vegetables. Plus their colors make them easy to locate as well. I am buying another set for our neighbors. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A member of the stylish Shun Classic line, this durable paring knife deftly handles intricate dicing and trimming tasks alongside its requisite peeling and skin-removal role. The paring knife’s compact size makes it easy to handle and thus a favorite when control and precision are a priority. The tool features a narrow sloping blade measuring 3-1/2 inches in length with a piercing tip.

Leveraging a 90-year history of superior workmanship, Shun knives are precision-forged in Japan by renowned blade manufacturer KAI. Using technologically advanced processes, a VG-10 "super steel" core is clad with 16 layers of high-carbon stainless steel to produce a rust-free Damascus-look blade. The Damascus detailing not only enhances the knife’s aesthetic appeal, it also prevents morsels from sticking and avoids crushing or damaging foods. Forming a comfortable D-shaped hold, a fused blend of hardwood veneers and resin comprise the unique ebony Pakkawood handle. A traditionally offset stainless-steel bolster protects knuckles while a steel end-cap finishes the piece. Although dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. 5-0 out of 5 stars Henckels 4 star gets 5 stars
About 5 years ago I got into cooking stir fry a little bit and found that cutting carrots, onions and many other vegitables was quite a chore with the cheap selection of knives that my kitchen was stocked with. I had to get sometimes near paper thin slices of various ingredients and there was no way even the best knife sold by Target could stack up to the task. I went to a real cookware store and purchased this knife and the 14" chefs knife for starters.

The first slice through an onion I knew where the extra money goes, some of it is for the name, but the rest is all quality. These knives will amaze you with how well they feel with their perfect balance and with a little work, you can get the blade sharp enough to shave with. When I held the chefs knife balanced on a tomato and just pulled, the weight of the knife sliced through it with a clean stroke. The paring knife is handy for so many more things than just paring (which it does quite well), I've used it more than once as a steak knife. For some reason I cant stand serrated edges anymore.

Cut all the coke cans you want with your Ginsu, but leave the real jobs to a real knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars How a 3" knife cost me $300!
My 3" paring knife broke. I decided to replace it with the Henckels 4 Star model. What a mistake! It is beautiful, sharp, extremely well balanced and obviously well made. Naturally, the rest of my knives took great offense, and I promptly ordered the whole set of 4 Star knives, block and all. At least I'll get a free set of Henckel's steak knives!

5-0 out of 5 stars A CUT ABOVE THE REST
It seems that everyone's kitchen drawer holds more than one paring knife - ours certainly does, and this small knife by Henckels is a favorite.

The three inch blade makes it perfect for paring whether it be a garlic clove or potato.

With a user friendly handle it fits neatly into your hand, and is easy to grip for lengthy chores.

Pop it in the dishwasher, and it's like new.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite knife
This is the best for fruits and vegetables! It is the perfect size and blade length for my hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just a Kitchen Knife; This is a piece of Art

Tough polypropylene handles with full, visible tangs and the traditional threerivets distinguish Classic knives from Wüsthof's other cutlery lines. OtherwiseClassic knives are identical to other Wüsthof knives, embodying all the virtues thathave earned the German manufacturer world renown. The principal parts of aWüsthof knife--blade, bolster, and tang--are forged from a single piece of high- carbon stainless steel, and the blade is precisely tapered from bolster to tip and from backto hand-honed edge. Blades and beautifully formed bolsters are not as thick as someknives'. As a result, despite their heft, strength, and durability, Wüsthof knives arepleasingly delicate and marvelously balanced in action. With its wicked little curve and pointed tip, the 2-3/4-inch blade of this knife (sometimescalled a bird's beak knife) peels fruits and vegetables with delicate precision, removesblemishes, and shapes them as desired. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best small knife you can have
This is my favorite small knife. It is excellent for peeling round fruits, I can peel an apple with this faster than with a peeler. It will cut pickles into sandwich slices like cutting through butter. Keep this knife sharp and it will not let you down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wüsthof Bird's Beak Knife
This Wüsthof-Trident Classic Bird's Beak Paring Knife is in my top ten list of most-used kitchen cutlery. I like this handy little curved knife for peeling and paring most fruits and vegetables, except potatoes, which I prefer to peel with an OXO peeler. If this knife is kept sharp, it can even be used to take the rind off of citrus fruits. If you like to make decorative food items or garnishes (like radish roses and carrot curls), or watermelon baskets or sorbet-filled oranges and lemons, then this is the knife for you. (A small fluting knife also comes in handy, too.) I hone mine with a steel frequently, and I also have it sharpened professionally as it doesn't sharpen well with the Chef's Choice electric sharpener. If you buy a set of Wüsthof knives, and this one isn't included, you'll want to add it to your collection. Also, I hand-wash and dry this knife and keep it stored in a wooden block. ... Read more

For peeling a Granny Smith apple or a fruit with a tougher skin, the swivel peeler by Oxo is an essential tool. Its rotating, flexible stainless steel blades contour to almost any surface. It's got an oversize handle opening for hanging storage, and its built-in potato eye remover lets you carve out blemishes without digging. The blade size and excellent handle make the paring knife equally essential. With a sharp, tapered stainless-steel blade, it's designed for smaller jobs, slicing through fruits and paring vegetables with ease. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. How can these products be so reasonably priced, while being so practical and easy to use? I am just amazed by each product this company turns out.

Secretly this type of peeler is my favorite since it is more ergonomic. You can't go wrong with a paring knife for everything from peeling apples to slicing olives. You will love this set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dads Are Tops
The Good Grip potato peeler that I have was given to me by my dad several years ago. Dad helps mom in the kitchen because of my mothers illness and he is always looking for kitchen gadgets that makes work a little easier for them. He bought a Good Grip peeler either through a magazine ar a store. He liked it so much he thought I ought to have one. I love my potato peeler and matching paring knife. I think these are the most comfortable kitchen tools that anyone could use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for smaller hands
After getting the paring knife as a wedding present, I fell in love with oxo's handles. For mother's day last year, I purchased this set for my mother and my mother-in-law. Both have small hands and greatly appreciated their ease of use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent function and feel!
Basically we have folks in the house who suffer from arthritis
and fibromyalgia. These kitchen tools: parer and peeler work
better than hoped! Though they don't look all that impressive, they do function swiftly and comfortably. The slightly larger
than average grip works well on fingers often subject to pain
when pressure is applied. And the sharp ends do better than most
high-priced kitchen tools! We love it. We are here to buy more
and pass something 'great' on to friends and family that we
really like. The price is excellent, here. We paid far more
at a major brand competitot---more for each piece than the price
of the combined here. OXO tends to sell off shelves quickly. I
have no idea why we didn't think to look at Amazon.com.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical & Affordable
I really like this set. The nice is practical for everyday use.

PEELER
I like how the handle on the peeler is larger than on most peelers. It is much easier to hold. It is great for carrots, potatoes, chocolate for fondue, etc.

KNIFE
This knife is great to use on just about anything. Whether it's slicing an apple or cutting a sandwich in half. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent knife, and a perfect fit
While visiting friends in KC, I happened to try their Henckels 4-star knives and was amazed at their sharpness, balance, and comfort. I immediately decided I NEEDED to get a set of these knives.

I quickly settled on the 4-star chef's and fillet knives, but tried paring knife after paring knife without finding one that really felt right. The 4-star handle is great on the big knives (where one grips the handle with the entire hand), but didn't feel right on the paring knife; it felt like my pinky was in limbo, not meant to be on the handle, but not meant to be off it, either.

Then I tried THIS knife. The Pro-S 3" paring knife just felt *right* - it fit perfectly, it had just the right heft, and it was far more agile than the longer 4" knives. I've had it for six months and it performs exactly as I expected it to; this knife is just a joy to use.

I love the thing, but you'll probably want to do exactly as I did, trying a number of high-quality knives to find the one that feels right to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Henckles Pro 3 inch Paring knife
I love my paring knife! I cook a lot of fresh vegetables and find this knife to be wonderful for peeling and cleaning them all. I have small hands and have trouble finding a knife that fells right and fits my hand. The knife is sharp, well balanced and comfortable to hold. I would recommend this product to everyone who loves to cook. ... Read more

A member of the stylish Shun Classic line, this durable paring knife deftly handles intricate dicing and trimming tasks alongside its requisite peeling and skin-removal role. The paring knife’s compact size makes it easy to handle and thus a favorite when control and precision are a priority. The tool features a narrow sloping blade measuring 4 inches in length with a piercing tip.

The super-sharp 4-inch cutting edge and ergonomic handle make this a top-notch paring knife. Forged in Solingen, Germany, of a combination of ice-hardened carbon and stainless steel for edge retention, rust-resistance, and durability, this versatile little knife ends up doing almost all the knife-work you'd rather not--or can't--do with your chef's knife: peeling, cutting, shaping, and prepping fruit, veggies, and meat.

When it is finally time to sharpen the slim blade of this knife, worry not, for it lends itself well to both a sharpening stone and steel. Once you've achieved the edge you want, a few quick sweeps along a steel each time you use the knife should keep the edge in fine condition. The ergonomic polypropylene handle lies comfortably in your hand, facilitating strain-free use; the metal bolster acts as a finger-guard; and the blade, bolster, and tang are fused into a seamless piece for easy handling and balance. The absence of rivets and recesses in the synthetic handle allows for dishwasher use. Finally! Still, the best way to care for this knife is to hand wash it with a mild soap, rinse it well, and then immediately wipe it dry. --Marcela Broussard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you only buy one knife
I received this knife for Christmas last year and it is by far the best knife I have ever had. It is the perfect size for all cutting needs in the kitchen. I have litterly used it every day and it is as sharp today as it was the day I received it. This is the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys the kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars The last paring knife I'll ever buy
When you get the feeling that you can cut through anything and you end up using the product to do just that you know it's the best. The knife was made to hold in my hand not someone elses. I'm confident it won't slip. I don't have to push and saw with this blade and I've used it as my general kitchen utility knife. When it's dirty I don't have to baby it I just stick it in the dishwasher and it gets clean without me worrying about it getting damaged. I couldn't ask fo anything better and in a world where value is harder and harder to find this is a steal you can fall in love with. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Paring Knife
Outstanding for the price. Sharp and easy to sharpen when needed. Offers enough flexibility for quick and easy pealing and fluting. I utilize this little guy for de-boning chickens as well. I've de-boned quite a few with a much more expensive MAC knife specifically made for poultry de-boning, and I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of this knife. And the great thing is that it is no major loss if my wife accidentally throws it in the sink or dishwasher (a different story with my chefs knife though!)

I highly recommend this knife. ... Read more

The blade size and excellent handle make the paring knife by Oxo the premiere small tool for the kitchen. Designed for small jobs but useful for big ones, too, the sharp, tapered blade slices through fruits and vegetables easily while the tension-absorbing rubber handle takes strain off the hands, even with repetitive motions. Pairing the sharpness of a larger knife with the agility of a smaller one, the mini chef's knife is the perfect invention for smaller tasks.

The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. 3-0 out of 5 stars Shape of mini-chef is a pleasure.
I have used the mini-chef for cutting garlic and spices and mincing small quantities of tomatoes and onions. The shape is excellent. It handles like a parer, but allows me to pick up the minced veggies with the side of the blade, something one just can't do with a parer. I can't speak to the quality of the steel (yet), but I had to sharpen the knives before use, which says something about the workmanship--not up to Oxo standards.

1-0 out of 5 stars room for improvement
For the most part, I've enjoyed my Good Grips utensils. The mini chef knife was easy to handle and very sharp at first. However the blade became dull after a short period of very light use. Now it's even showing rust spots! I can only think OXO used poor quality steel in this knife for it to have deteriorated so quickly.

2-0 out of 5 stars Low Quality, OXO Knives Generally Poor Quality
This two piece knife set is one of the first knive sets I ever purchased. At first I thought the mini chef was great and the parer so so. In time, the handles came off both and I tossed them because the handles kepts slipping off and that's not safe.

Now, I love knives and have the finest forged German and French knives. I've come to appreciate knive quality and this is not it. These knives do not have a full tang or a bolster. They are pressed junk in an ergonomic rubber grib. It's like they stuck a cheap knife in a kitchen utensil handle.

Instead of this junk, look at a low end set of Farberware knives. Be sure and get the "FORGED" set. Most Farberware is not forged but the forged stuff seems to always win best buy in Consumer Reports. If you don't want to spend the 50-70 bucks for the Farberware Forged line go for some low end Sabatier pressed or drop forged knives (all made in China not France at this price range)or Henkels Eversharp (pressed but dishwasher safe) for probaby fifty to under twenty monetary units.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice way to start!
Why do I say these are a nice way to start? Well, they are great knives, but after using them I think you will want to progress to the OXO MV55-Pro.
I started with these and really liked them. Nice handles, good cut. But then I bought the Pro...and well, they REALLY live up to their name.
But these are a good inexpensive way to "try out" the OXO line.

1-0 out of 5 stars Paring knife is so dull I couldn't stand it.
Sorry to disagree with other reviewers, but my experience of the paring knife was that it's perhaps the softest metal I've ever seen used in a knife, and as a result, it's not very sharp and doesn't improve if you try sharpening it. My friend, a fellow cook who got it as a gift, doesn't like it; I hated it and would never choose to use it. There's a reason the price is so low. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Knife I Own
I bought a collection of Pro-S knives about a year ago and never thought this one would be the one I used the most. It is great for use as advertised - peeling, strawberries, etc. But what they don't tell you is how many other things it is useful; cutting chicken legs and thighs, cutting away the ribs from prime rib, and any task where you need to cut something you can't see. Mine dropped on the floor and the tip bent today - definately want to take care of this knife - and if it doesn't straighten out right I guarantee I'll be buying another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars the perfect paring knife
I used this knife at a friends house. The balance is great. You can tell this is a quality knife. The small tip end is great for coring strawberries. The slightly wider area by the base makes it nice for pealing thin skinned items such at potatoes. This is a must for anyone that picks strawberries to core and freeze. I liked it so much I'm purchasing one for myself. You can't get anything like this at local store. ... Read more
