5-0 out of 5 stars Great Braun Electric Kettle
We were recently in England and saw friends using an electric tea kettle that was different than any we had ever seen in the U.S. I had to have one. When we got home I found this lovely Braun electric kettle and purchased it immediately. It does all we expected. It has a large capacity so you don't have to refill it constantly. It boils very, very quickly and shuts off so I don't have to watch it. I love being able to take it to the sink to fill it without dragging the cord. It's very easy to clean because it detaches from the base. I like the large handle grip and the water window on both sides. We use it for everything instant including soup. How did we get along without it?

5-0 out of 5 stars Clean Design, Very Functional
I got this after destroying a ... Alessi kettly by accidentally letting it boil dry until the plastic parts melted...

I was about to spring for one of the Zojirushi megabuck dispensers, when I spotted this unit. I have always liked Braun (more consistently good than Krups or Cuisinart) for their design and ergonomics. This pot doesn't fail to impress. This baby is FAST; It boils water at 1 minute per 8-oz cup (or faster, if you start with hot tap water). For a single cup of tea, this is about as fast as you can select a teabag and prepare the cup! BTW, this actually holds 7 cups, not 6 as described.

The design is very nice and clean-looking. The base is especially well-designed, since you can put the pot on rotated in whatever way is convenient. This is apparently a big win over the Krups kettle. The "mineral filter seems like overkill, but it does prevent splashing of the boiling water, and causes pouring to be very smooth. Cleanup is brain-dead simple (pour out the excess water after use, and flip the top open to allow evaporation). Pot itself does not get too hot to touch, and the handle stays completely cool. Automatic-off features work under all sensible scenarios: when it reaches full boil, when the top is opened for any reason, when lifted off the base, or when the pot is empty.

As for the Zojirushi dispensers? They may be useful if you want a lot of water (up to 5 liters for the big ones) held at a controlled temperature. But for most home uses, this need is rare, and otherwise deosn't justify the ... price tag.

For me, the Braun is one of those are kitchen appliances that took a while to see the need for, but now I couldn't live without. A real time and hassle saver!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply a better kettle
Not only does this improve upon the standard stove-based kettle, but it improves upon the previous generation of fixed-cord electric kettles.

The separation of kettle and corded base allows the former to be taken to the sink (or refrigerator if you're boiling pitcher-filtered water) without bother. It makes pouring at the table or in another room easy, as well. The cord can be wound inside the base so that only the needed length is exposed - neatening your countertop. The base has a "360-degree rotational connection," which means that you don't have to align the kettle in any particular way when replacing it. No buttons to press, no connector to snap.

The handle and kettle shell stay cool, obviating the need for a hot pad when picking it up, and the single control is as simple as can be: press it to start and it turns itself off when the water boils. If you forget about it, you needn't worry about boiling away all the water and leaving yourself with a burnt pot. (It will also turn off automatically if the pot is empty, the lid is opened, or the pot is removed from the base!)

The anti-calcification filter reduces scaling and thus the need to run a vinegar solution to clean out the buildup (something most people never do with their stove-based kettles). The design allows you to easily see the entire inside of the kettle, so you can keep an eye on things.

For those who regular drink tea or other beverages made with stove-boiled water, an electric kettle is a real convenience. This Braun kettle is about as convenient as they come.

1-0 out of 5 stars short and not so sweet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just About Perfect
We got this as a summer substitute for the Zojirushi hot pot that keeps boiling water always available, because our airconditioner didn't appreciate the constant heat (although we continue to love the Zojirushi "in season"). The Braun is perfect. A full pot of 7 cups boils in 5 minutes and then shuts off. It's light, not ugly, and has a red light indicator on 2 sides. Best of all, the platter is perfectly designed, so that you don't have to orient the pot one way or another when you sit it down. The whole thing pretty much stays out of your way; even the cord length is adjustable. Perhaps the only thing missing is a bell or ring-tone that tells you when it's done. Small detail. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great idea but needs some work
I've had the Hot Shot machine for about 7 years now, and it still works great. I like that it is compact, that the heating coils aren't exposed, and that it shuts off automatically at boil. Obviously the longevity is excellent, but I have always had some issues with it.

For one thing, mine leaks. (My original one did not but my previous roommate's boyfriend stole mine and replaced it with his leaky one, he had his about 6 months before I got mine.) I've always had to keep a cup under it or make sure I empty it.
Secondly, it's too easy to trigger the heat button unintentionally, which can damage the coils if there's no water in it, and since it leaks you can't leave water in it.
Also, it,s not that convenient to fill, filling a cup with water and pouring it in can be a bit messy unless the cup has a pour spout. It also only makes about 12z or so at a time.

I'm certain the manufacturer would advise me to drain and unplug it when not in use, but that's not the point. We all like to do what's convenient for us. I recently got the Bodum Mini Ibis (also available here at and I'm much happier with its features and the way it works.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for the "instant" set.
I have had a Sunbeam Hot Shot in my kitchen for years and given many of them for gifts. We use it almost daily. All it does is heat a mugful of water to boiling. We use it for instant coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate mixes, spiced cider, instant oatmeal, ramen noodle soups and just about anything else that all you have to do is all hot water to. We have worn out several but they do last for years. This is one of our most used appliances and an excellent gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Convenient and easy to use!
I had a Hot Shot for many years. I never had a problem with it, and we used ours for everything. Water for tea, coffee, cocoa, instant soups and oatmeal, and other hot drink mixes. The water boils so fast that the only time I use a kettle is if I am making a pot of tea. For a couple of cups of tea, filling the Hot Shot twice is still faster!

I did find that some mugs don't fit under the dispenser, and some mugs dribble when you pour into the compartment. Also, sometimes with a mix like cocoa, when you pour the water into the cup, the inside of the cup area gets dirty. However, I solved all these problems. I got a 2 cup glass measuring cup. It fits perfectly under the dispenser, pours with no drips into the water compartment, and will leave no mess behind. Simply measure the water you need, pour it into the dispenser, dispense the water back into the measuring cup, and pour it where needed. I leave the measuring cup in the Hot Shot when not in use.

I had my Hot Shot for seven years and it worked like new until I accidentally melted the cord. If I hadn't done that, I am sure it would still be working. My new one works fine, too, and I wasn't going to buy one until I quickly remembered how long the kettle took!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot item from Hot Shot!
Works great. We use it to make hot cocoa and soups. It takes less than a minute to heat up and just press a button, you're ready! We bought another one to put in our camper and its uses are endless.

4-0 out of 5 stars So handy..
This little item is GREAT for kids. I didn't like the younger kids & teenagers constantly trying to boil water or the teakettle on the stove because of experiences of the hot unit being left on and the smaller children handling hot kitchenware. This solved all problems as they love herbal tea, hot chocolate, instant cup-a-soups (the fave!) name it, they've found things to make with it. It's safe, shuts itself off and lets them make their snacks in a snap. Worthwhile!

Oh yes, the $17.99 price is GOOD..I purchased mine from the JC Penney catalog before Christmas @$29.95 which included 2 cheap mugs of which one is already broken and a small, undrinkable, stale chocolate mix. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tea with a twist
Oh my, I have wanted one of these for ages. Europeans have been using them for decades, but couldn't seem to find a modern, user-friendly electric kettle. This is the best; it boils as quickly as the ad suggests. Jug plugs into the base, so you can remove it from base once water is boiled. It switches off automatically (a big plus for those of us who forget that water is boiling on the stove ... mea culpa), and voila, your hot, hot water is ready for your favorite tea. I've started to drink more tea since I purchased it 6 weeks ago. This isn't another kitchen gadget, it is an absolute necessity for the kitchen; it is a life-changing purchase. Yes, okay, I like it. But you can see why, can't you?

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Solid Product
I shopped online for a while to get an electric tea kettle. We were tired of having the old kettle take up one burner of the stove all the time.

We are very pleased with the kettle. Unlike some of the others, it is set up so that you don't have to worry about how you place it on its base. You just fill it, put it down on the base and press a very ergonomic trigger button on the handle. The kettle turns itself off when the water is boiling. All in all, pretty idiot proof. The water boils very quickly--it's much quicker than heating water on the stove.

The only question we have is how the heating element will hold up. The metal element inside the kettle is starting to get some mineral deposits on it, and it's unclear how this will affect the kettle. (Probably all electric kettles have this issue.) Meanwhile we are quite enjoying it.

I also purchased the 4 cup version for my office and that has worked out quite well also. I don't have to make my tea with the water that comes through our crummy old office coffee machine anymore!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Kettle!!
I make coffee or tea every day, and this kettle gets some hard use at my house. I love it, the handle stays cool when the water is boiling and it doesn't release that much steam out of the spout. It pours extremely well, it has never dripped. I even use it for cooking as it boils water faster than in a conventional pot on the stove. I highly recommend this kettle!

5-0 out of 5 stars This thing is great.
Finally, a product that does what it's supposed to and does it well! Simple to use, works great, looks nice and only cost $20. Great!

A handy workhorse for homes where tea is a staple, this 3.0-liter Micom pot from Zojirushi boils water then keeps it hot. Equipped with a handy electric dispenser, the unit requires no pouring and makes it easy to fill mug after mug or add a quick shot of hot water to a bowl of oatmeal or ramen. A micro-computerized heating system monitors water temperature precisely and includes a re-boil mode and three keep-warm settings of 175, 195, or 208 degrees F. In addition, a dechlorinating mode helps reduce chlorine and odors, while a descaling mode cleans the interior pot. 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than a tea kettle!
I just received this for Christmas, it's something I've wanted for a while. Ever since my tea kettle died of old age, I've been boiling water for tea with a regular sauce pan and what usually happens is I forget all about it and only remember after it has been boiling for a while. Also, I didn't like the long wait for hot water. I want instant gratification! And now I have it with this Zojirushi dispensing pot. It's perfect since I'm an avid tea drinker, consuming several pots of tea each day.

A long long time ago, I used to have the "air pot" style dispensing pot where you just press on the top and it pumps out water. This one is a much newer design and dispensing is handled electronically. What I like is the "safety" feature which was lacking in the old "air pot" styles. You have to press the "unlock" button before the "dispensing" button which prevents accidentally dispensing hot water. You can set this to keep water at 205°F, 195°F, or 175°F. You can also set it to give you hot water in 7 hours, but this is a feature I really don't need to use. I'm using the 195°F which seems to be a good middle ground for making black (requires hotter water) and green (requires lower temp water) teas. This is also handy for making instant noodles, oatmeal, hot chocolate. Also handy when needing hot water for a dish I'm cooking, or making chicken/beef broth for a dish I'm cooking. This is very convenient ... no more waiting for hot water! (This beats getting a replacement tea kettle because with a tea kettle I still have to wait for it to boil/whistle, and it usually whistles shortly after I've sat down and gotten comfortable.) This pot will automatically reboil when it feels the temp has dropped too much. The water level gauge is easy to read, the lid lifts up easily for refilling (also removes easily to make pouring water out and cleaning a cinch). Another nice little detail is a removable power cord. It makes me feel a bit "safer" being able to remove this before cleaning out the pot in the sink.

I am confident that this will last me a long time. My in-laws also have a Zojirushi water dispensing pot and it has never failed on them. And I know people who have other Zojirushi products and have had no problems with them. So I feel comfortable with this brand, and I may look into getting one of their rice cookers.

Oh, I have to mention one more nicety of this dispensing pot. The base will swivel around (think lazy suzan style), making it easy to rotate it without scratching your kitchen counter top.

The only thing I need to be careful about is where to put the dispensing pot since there is a steam vent on the top. I don't put it directly beneath any kitchn cabinets, just in case the steam might damage the cabinet over time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars quick reply to "Looks pretty but doesn't turn off quickly"
I found the reviews here very helpful and accurate, and now that I have this kettle wanted to pay back a bit. The comment that the kettle doesn't turn off quickly is right, as indicated in the review titled "Looks pretty but doesn't turn off quickly." BUT you may like this feature, depending on how you make tea. Part of the idea of the long boil is, I think, that you can just pick up teh kettle and pour your tea while the kettle is still boiling the water. This is what I find myself doing.

I like it because with my other electric kettle I find I often end up hitting the button after it boils to boil it again quickly right before I pour my tea.

Just an added thought.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice
Since I've never owned an electric teakettle before, I can't say that this is the definitive best. If you own one of those kettles that you put on the stove, this one beats it no contest. There is no more guessing if your water reached the boiling point, because it turns off when the water reaches 100 C (I can't remember the number in Farenheit); also, it takes drastically less time to reach the boiling point in the first place. For myself, I get to enjoy my tea that much faster and I have a ready to use source of hot water to add to meals that I'm cooking.
This kettle is one of those gadgets that have become indispensable. It is fairly expensive, but even though I've only used it since November 2003 (about two months now), it's worth every penny.
The only disadvantage I can see is if you're in the midst of a power outage. Obviously, you'll want to break out your non-electrified kettle that takes forever to heat up. Otherwise, keep that relic in storage, because you won't be needing it.

1-0 out of 5 stars There's a better choice
Take a look at the Melitta Express Kettle. It shuts off soon after it reaches the boiling point. Has a tip type of lid which latches to prevent burns but is easily opened. Costs $30 less than the Chef's Choice and is very attractive. I have had mine for about 6 months and it still looks perfect and operates wonderfully. Heats water very fast. Has a interior water level guide. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up near the top in most searches on Amazon or I am sure it would become a big seller. You can get it at Target, so you have instant gratification.

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks pretty but doesn't turn off quickly
This kettle looks pretty but doesn't turn off once it boils. This means it dumps steam into the room for at least two minutes, fogging windows and generally dampening things up quite a bit. Also, the round grip on the top is made out of plastic and feels shoddy, as does the turn on switch. I wish I had returned it but I am slow getting things into the mail and the 30 days passed before I knew it. Oh well, it does boil water!

5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding
An electric kettle seemingly wouldn't wear out, but that is exactly what happened to our previous one after only one year of use. This one has already beaten that. Additionally, it holds the water at a boil for a bit of time, rather than shutting off as soon as the boil is reached. This means that the water stays hotter in the kettle. ... Read more

Stylish looking and highly mobile, this electric cordless kettle from Breville lets you serve hot beverages unfettered. The unit's disc-shaped base conceals a powerful 1500-watt element and features 360-degree swivel, so accommodation on the countertop is easy. The kettle holds 1.9 quarts, and the water level is easily visible through a translucent side window. The sleek curves and mirror finish of the stainless-steel body create an air that is both handsome and efficient. Breville looks after details, too--like the illuminated on/off switch, the safety locking hinge lid, and the tidy cord storage in the base. A safety feature cuts power automatically to prevent overheating or boiling dry, while a removable scale filter simplifies cleaning. The kettle is perfect for taking tea into the sunroom or making fresh coffee on the picnic table. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Big Disappointment
After looking around for the best looking electric kettle that boils water quickly as well as holds at least 2 liters of water (1.9) in the case of this kettle, I finally decided to get the Breville Nova cordfree. There are many positive reviews that I agree with their praise of the kettle's performance, however, I have not read a review that brings to the fact, that once the water boils, the outside surface of the kettle is DANGEROUSLY HOT. The fact that the pot is stainless steel with no insulation barrier is cause for concern, especially if you have small kids that run the chance of burning themselves badly if they happen to touch it. I would now consider a platic based kettle over a stainless steel one.

I boiled the first pot and that was it. I dried it up, packed it, and sent it right back to Amazon.
I rate this kettle 5-Stars for looks and functionality and 2-Stars for safety for an overall 3-Star rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elegant
By far the best looking kettle on the market and it looks even better once you get it home. It also has the largest capacity of all kettles I've looked at and it boils superfast. The auto-off feature is great as I have kids in the house and you never know what's going to happen leaving the old tea kettle on the stove. Worth the price

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Piece of Australian Technology
I am very, very picky when it comes to house wares and kitchen appliances, and before deciding to take my chances on this Breville electric kettle, I had spent probably too much time researching different brands of electric kettles online (Braun, Krups, Cuisinart, Bodum, etc.). I was inclined to getting the Braun kettle that has received so many rave reviews on Amazon, but the few complaints about it petering out, and being made of plastic, made me continue my search for a kettle. If it's going to cost almost $50, I wanted a kettle that could boil more than 6 cups of water, last longer than 3 years, and be made of stainless steel. After typing in all sorts of descriptors on search engines, I finally came across the name Breville, and checked out the manufacturer's Web site. After seeing this Nova kettle's product specifications, & contrasting it to other makes & models featured on Amazon, I took my chances with this kettle, and have been completely obsessed with it ever since (& I am fully confidet it will continue to function well even after that "just-bought-it" glow fades away). It has more than I had wanted, all in one: concealed heating element, REMOVABLE water-scale filter, a window to see the water level (not that annoying floating ball), larger 1.9L capacity, auto-shut-off, 360 degree accessible base, great looks, & VERY FAST! Plus, I noticed that the water in the kettle continues to stay heated for quite a while after it has boiled and the kettle has shut itself off. The only thing some people may find unfortunate is the rather shorter-than-expected length of the electric cord. But for all the other pluses going for this product, I think it's a negligible quality. I had never heard of Breville before, but I hope they venture out into other high-quality kitchen products, with the same caliber of quality. So, the verdict is: 5-stars, and a Perfect-10 as a kitchen accessory. And, I am guilty of spending FAR too much time shopping for house/kitchen stuff! So, I wanted to write a review to save others from wasting the same amount of time I did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent affordable kettle!
This is the most frequently used appliance in my kitchen. It boils water very quickly, with a cool touch outside, and a nice "ding" when the water has reached boiling, and it shuts off. It is useful when cooking, for adding hot water to recipes and for making both single and pots of tea. it also takes up less countertop space than other models. After over a year of daily use, it is still working just as perfectly as on day one, and I would recommend this product highly.

I have used two other electric kettles- the bodum (after a few months of use the lid broke, thin plastic) and a black and decker (nice chrome finish but the outside get HOT and there is no signal tone that the water is ready)

For the money and for the features, this is an excellent product, sturdy, functional and reliable.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE small kitchen appliance to have!
I bought this electric kettle for my college freshman son about 10 months ago, and it has performed flawlessly. Arriving at his dorm in only 3 days after ordering, this appliance was quickly accepted into the college lifestyle, having been voted by he and his 2 roommates as one of the "Top 3 Indispensable Items" in the room (following the TV and the refrigerator). This pot provides them with a quickly renewable (3 minutes ...max.) supply of boiling water for coffee, cocoa, soup, dried ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese, and anything else they have been able to come up with. Well engineered and assembled, it has proven to be incredibly sturdy and versatile, having weathered more than a few "mishaps" and never failing to perform. This kettle has it all...water level window, warning bell, "stay-cool" exterior, rotating base, automatic shut off, built in cord wrap, and an easily cleanable heating surface. My son says that this is the one thing that he is sure to be bringing back to his room next year. If you have a need for boiling water...FAST, and don't/can't have a traditional stove/tea kettle arrangement, or don't want to waste resources, this is THE kitchen item to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent kitchen item
We use this kettle multiple times daily, and have been nothing but pleased with it. Easy to clean and use. This is one of the most useful items in our kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Item!
I first purchased a kettle like this one while living overseas. I have been using electric/cordless kettles for 5+ years now and I can say that this is one small appliance I use everday...several times a day. It is portable, easy to use, and convenient. Whether it is for an office, dorm, or kitchen this is a great buy. The brand is reputable and mine has been going strong for 3 years now. The water viewer makes it easy for measuring and the stay cool exterior is great for little hands that may get too close. It takes up very little counter space which is a plus and once boiled, the water stays warm for quite sometime. I cant imagine my kitchen without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This kettle has lasted me two years already. It is perfect in every way a kettle needs to be. Most importantly it is quick, reliable, and ever so convenient. I recommend using filtered water in it because you will never have to clean any deposits if you do. Otherwise you will clean it almost every two to three weeks with everday usage. Enjoy and feel safe in buying a quality product. ... Read more

Great for a dorm room or office, this cordless kettle lets you enjoy tea, coffee, or even dried soups at any time and without a range. And it's detachable from its power base for convenient pouring. 5-0 out of 5 stars It's not like the teapot calling the kettle black
I've owned Russell Hobbs auto-off teapots and the older Cuisinart auto-off corded teapot. This is a third generation pot for me and I love this one best! There is a tiny light on the bottom front which let's you know when it is "on", the hidden element is another nice feature which makes cleaning tough calcium deposits from water much easier. The best feature by far is that it's cordless so you can carry it over to another location like I need to do when mixing jello or preparing microwave oatmeal. It's got a nice new design too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and attractive
I have been through two plastic electric kettles in the last few years. Both of them eventually fell apart as the plastic became brittle. Long before that the white plastic became yellow. This stainless steel kettle is well worth the little extra you pay. If you've never had an electric kettle you don't know how much time you're wasting waiting for water to boil!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Handle
We used this kettle everyday for about 2 years and were very happy with it, until this week, when my husband was pouring boiling water from it, and the handle fell off. There's no sign of rivets or screws being used to secure the handle to the kettle. It looks like they just superglued it on, which can be very dangerous. Like I said, we've had this particular model for about 2 years, so maybe the manufacturer has redesigned the handle on its more recent products. If not, for safety reasons, I would not recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super fast, have tea anywhere
I love this tea kettle. It's super-fast, and because it's electic, you can keep it anyplace and enjoy tea--or whatever else you need to brew with hot water.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best...
I am a tea snob. I am not ashamed to say, I want my tea the way I want it. This kettle is perfect in every way. It's easy to fill from the spout. It is functional in pouring - well balanced. It heats a full kettle in around 5 minutes to boiling. The base houses a wrap around function so you can make the cord as long/short as you want. Oh, and it's darn attractive too ;)

In short: It's perfect. You like tea made the correct way? Get this kettle. Well worth the funds to purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars From the kitchen to the dining room table
Elegant styling and cool-to-the-touch bottom means I can heat water, pluck the kettle off the base unit, and put the it right onto the dining room table without a hot pad. This is fantastic for hot after-dinner drinks at a party. The base unit and kettle have a 360-degree attachment which allows the kettle to be connected to the base at any rotation making it easier to find a home for it in your kitchen. The base also has 'feet' so that the cord can come out of any side making it easy to located and keep the cord hidden. It's a small detail, but it shows the thought that went into the design.

In addition, this teapot as all the advantages that a dedicated electric kettle has over a stovetop model: auto-shutoff (start it, jump in the shower, hot water is waiting when you get out), generally faster to boil water, and it doesn't occupy a burner nor get covered in grease splatters. The downside is that it's yet another appliance taking up counter space.

So there are a few complaints: the Krups teakettle has a wide base so it does take up more of your counter than other models. We originally bought it for heating water upstairs, but found it far to big for our small bathroom. Other problems I have are that the handle is directly over the main opening making it somewhat awkward to open the lid and fill the pot. As another reviewer pointed out, the water level indicator is only good for full/empty measurements. I generally lift the kettle to see if I need to add water. I would like some audible sound when it finishes boiling. I've gotten so used to the start-it-and-leave-it that I often come back 20 minutes later having totally forgotten I was making tea.

Anyhow, the problems I have with this teapot are mostly trivial and are so far outweighed by the advantages that I give it 5 stars and recommend it highly. It's a great gift for the tea-lover in your family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy and attractive
This is my first electric tea kettle and I have to say that I'm in love. The water heats quickly, the kettle has a large capacity and the automatic shut-off makes it easy to see when the water is done. It is also a very nicely designed appliance (that's, of course, not a reason to buy kitchenwares but it is nice when they look good.) It's easy to run and the cordless feature (the kettle goes on a small hot plate) makes it very convenient to carry around. I also liked the strainer feature.
I only have two problems with this kettle. It is a little bit noisy so don't be alarmed at the boiling sounds. The gauge that shows how full the kettle is is hard to read when the kettle is held at an angle, such as when you would be filling it under the tap.
Other than these minor problems, I am enjoying this kettle greatly and, short of a power outage, I can't see myself going back!

5-0 out of 5 stars quick and easy
I didn't know why I needed this over my tea kettle but a few people I know have them and I love my gadgets and appliances so I tried one and we have enjoyed it very much. This kettle came recommended to me and I love it... just an easy press of a button and the water is ready in about 4 don't have to come back to the room to shut it off, it does that by itself and keeps the water hot for quite a while. If you want to warm up the water after that it only takes about 45 to 60 seconds. ... Read more

Italian-made and sleek in structure, the DeLonghi Metropolis electric teakettle boils water in mere minutes. Better still, the powerful 1500-watt heating element is concealed in a flat disk base that allows for 360-degree rotation and easy cordless serving. Crafted with a stainless-steel interior, the kettle rests comfortably on the base and turns on with a simple plastic depressor button. 5-0 out of 5 stars we've retired our stovetop teakettle
This was a splurge after my husband and I visited London -- all the B&B's there had some kind of electric teakettle. Those guys know their tea, so eventually we broke down and got this one. We love it! We'd gone through many teakettles, even the whistling kind, because my self-employed hubbie tended to start working and completely forget that he had something on the stovetop. This teakettle brings water to a full rolling boil in about 5 minutes and then turns itself off, bringing the water to a perfect temperature for a great pot of tea -- without overboiling and removing too much of the oxygen from the water.

I also find when I'm cooking spaghetti that it's a lot faster to boil water in this teakettle and then transfer the water to the cooking pot. The kettle is easy to fill and clean, and it lifts smoothly off the base. The exterior stays nice and cool. My husband was leery about the cost compared with a regular teakettle, but after a couple of weeks of using it he says it was worth every penny. This would make a wonderful wedding or housewarming gift. People who have been using a traditional teakettle and want to make great coffee or tea at home will find this an excellent buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great kettle!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Cost
I bought this kettle for the sole purpose of making tea in my dorm room. For that it works great. Just put in some water and flip the switch (a handy light comes on to notify you that the kettle is in use). When the water's done boiling the kettle really does shut itself off. One other nice thing is that the cable that you use to plug this kettle into the outlet actually does detach (AC adapter style). This allows to you to use this as a pitcher, rather than keeping it plugged in all the time. The only real problem (hence the minus one star) is that you have to really make the sure the top is sealed because it doesn't seal tightly by itself. One thing to note, this uses a submerged coil to boil the water meaning that you must boil at least 1.5 cups of water in order for it to work.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice design but 675 functionality needs much improvement
This is a review of the Chef's Choice 675 International Cordless Electric Hot Pot. Before I purchased it, I read the reviews here at Most of them sounded positive so I thought that this electric kettle would work out for me was a good value. However, I didn't use it many times before the problems with this 675 electric kettle became apparent.

1) There is a "thumb" switch on the top of the handle that you have to press to make the spring-loaded plastic lid open so you can add water. When you press the lid down, the lid is supposed to "snap" and stay closed, flush to the top of the kettle. The lid on my 675 kettle didn't stay completely closed straight out of the box and the "gap" problem only got worse after each subsequent use.

2) The pot is supposed to auto switch off quickly after the water boils. The auto-shutoff sensor is in the plastic lid and works when the heat builds up. Unfortunately, the greater the gap between the lid and the top rim of the kettle, the longer it takes the auto-shutoff feature to work. If the plastic lid does not stay down, then the auto-shutoff feature will not work.

3) The spout is small and shallow so boiling water isn't directed into a narrow stream when pouring. Instead, unless one is very careful and pours very slowly, boiling water spills over either side of the shallow spout and could miss your cup and hit the counter or table or floor.

Plus: Looks great; stainless steel; large capacity, cordless; heating element in corded base; easy to clean; good location of on/off switch which glows orange when on.

Minus: Boiling water splashes while pouring unless you pour very slowly. Lid switch failed to keep lid completely shut then broke completely after only a few uses. Auto shutoff was progressively more delayed with every use. It didn't work as soon as water boiled, no doubt related to the plastic lid not staying completely shut, so leaving it unattended was a potential hazzard.

Final: I like the Chef's Choice brand of appliances but they need to improve on the design of this 675 kettle to make it more functional and dependable. I found out that my cousin has had a Chef's Choice International 685 Deluxe Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Teakettle for two years and has had no problems with it, even with heavy use. The 685 is a cute, cordless electric kettle in the classic teakettle shape with a stainless steel lid and body and a black plastic side handle. It has all the good features of the 675 but is more dependable so that's what I will buy next.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!
Soon after receiving the 675, the spring that holds the lid in place was no longer working, and the lid popped up once the water came to a boil, causing the automatic shut-off to NOT SHUT OFF. I have since removed the spring. The automatic shut-off works now. The spout pours wider than a mug, causing dangerously hot spillage. I've just purchased a different brand and hope for better than this delivered.

1-0 out of 5 stars At first good, but now bad
Really loved this at first - quick heating, and didn't have any of the spillage issues other people mentioned. Now, after 6 months, the auto shut-off no longer works. I don't have any warping of the cover - it is still flush with the top of the unit. But yet, it doesn't work. I've probably used this an average of once a week since receiving it. Very disappointing.

1-0 out of 5 stars stoped working after a month
This thing stopped turning off after a boil, a month after I bought it. it's lid isn't really sealed so the vapors come out.
nice design - nothing more.

2-0 out of 5 stars One pot can be so much fun
We bought this tea kettle because of the great reviews. Unfortunately we can't agree. It's cordless, looks cute and is from metal - so much for the second star. As mentioned in another review, the spout leaks water left and right, so when you pour yourself a cup of tea, boiling water spills past the cup on the table and potentially on your lap (ouch). You can circumvent this problem by opening the lid, but the button on the handle for this ceased to function right. Also, the lid sometimes falls off while cleaning and requires advanced technical skills to put back (at least my wife and my mother can't ever put it back once it falls off). But wait, this is not it: The plastic lid deformed over time, leaving a crack for steam to escape, which jeopardizes the automatic shut-off feature. Now the thing never shuts off unless you hold down the lid (which is stupid since you can as well just switch it off). I haven't tried what happens if you forget that it's on and leave the house for the day - and I don't want to find out. And as if that weren't enough trouble, it always shuts itself off about half a minute after switching it on. So I switch it on, go away, and when I come back, it's off and never boiled. When I switch on the second time though, it stays on, but, as mentioned earlier, stays on forever. No, I am not making this up - one pot really can be so much fun... ... Read more
