5-0 out of 5 stars A little pricey but the last one you will ever buy
Let me start by saying that we have owned several Belgian waffle makers over the years. Some were less expensive electric models (yuch!) and the latest was a rather expensive non-stick cast iron stove top model. They all had one thing in common...the degree of browning on the waffle was always a guessing game.
We found the Waring Pro waffle maker being used by one of our favorite hotel chains that offers a free breakfast and knew that we had to have one. We watched a long line of people use it and everyone was very satisfied with a waffle that was done to a consistent medium brown, crisp on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. After purchasing the Waring Pro from, I can easily say that we are able to make even better waffles using the Classic Waffles recipe provided with the machine. While not the quickest recipe to make, these have to be the lightest waffles you will ever eat with DEEP pockets to trap any topping you want to put on them.
The Waring Pro has to be commended for its consistency and ease of use. Unlike lesser machines, you are able to set the machine to your desired level of browning(level 4 is a good starting point)and the green light will indicate when pre-heating has been achieved. Add the batter with the enclosed measuring scoop, rotate the waffle iron 180 degrees and the beeper tells you when it's done. Simply the BEST Belgian waffle maker you can buy. Don't waste your money on several cheap Belgian waffle makers as we did. This is the last one you will ever need to buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
This waffle maker is the best. If you love waffles this is worth the extra bucks over a cheap department store waffle maker. Perfect, light and crispy waffles in no time, every time...and we haven't even tried it for breakfast yet. Stylish and efficient, easy cleanup, looks great on your counter. We haven't even bothered trying any of the recipes that come with it, just used a $2.00 Belgian waffle mix that is oh so good and easy to make. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far so good
This waffle maker was given to me for father's day, and we had perfect waffles right away.

I was surprised just how fast it made waffles. We had outgrown our original because our family has grown to five. With this model, we couldn't eat them fast enough. I imagine the balance will change when we get teenagers in the house, but I was impressed. The beeper on this unit made it so I could pour the batter, sit down and eat, and only get up when the next one was ready. There was no need to monitor the baker, or even to peak between the top and bottom to check if it was done.

The non-stick surface worked well.

One nice consequence of the rotation feature is that the waffles cling to the upper iron when the baker is opened. This means that gravity helps you remove the waffle, making it easier.

So far I have no complaints.

By the way, we made a family buckwheat recipe and it worked well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Waffler
After losing my old General Electric waffle maker in the divorce (a 50's model still churning out great waffles, sob) I was looking for a replacement waffler. After reading several other reviews on traditional waffle makers I saw the review on this one and thought I'd give it a chance and was floored. It's all they said and more. I actually had to turn it over to see that it was made in China not USA. I don't think this thing can make a bad waffle. Even the first one (batter was too thick and I missed the beep) which stayed in way too long was good!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's not just a waffle's a dream maker!
My family and I travel quite a bit and fell in love with waffles from a certain COMFORTABLE INN and we asked the staff for info on the waffle maker and the waffle mix. They directed us to for both, however we found the waffle maker cheaper here at Amazon. The mix is incredibly good too. One secret I would like everyone to keep in mind is that the waffle maker comes with directions that say to spray the maker with nonstick spray, however the folks that make the waffle mix said never to spray it, but to add two tablespoons of melted butter to your mix and it will not stick. Well we have never sprayed our waffle maker and we have never had a waffle stick! It only takes about 2 minutes to make each waffle and we fed my husbands squadron using it and they were blown away by the quality and taste! One night we had waffles for dinner, the kids thought we had gone insane but they loved it! I told you this waffle was a dream maker, well I brought this waffle maker as a Valentine present for my spouse and thanks to the delicious waffles, we had the most wonderful night of waffle making you could believe! We highly recommend this waffle maker as a great morning after treat too. BUY IT!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I remember
It looks like the waffle maker that my mom used for all those wonderful breakfasts growing up. I've had the waffle maker for almost a year now, and after another disappointing round of waffles this weekend, I had to submit a review.
I'd agree with other reviewers that the unit does not get hot enough. I've tried several different waffle recipes, including good ole mom's and each time the waffles are flat as pancakes and soft. I've given up trying to cook pancakes, even with the heat turned up full blast, they never brown.
I've always been a fan of this type of waffle maker, but based on my experiences, I'll be looking for a Belgium waffle maker and stick with my stovetop griddle for pancakes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap piece of junk
First off, it's a GRIDDLE and waffle baker, not a grill. And second, it's so poorly made that it's frightening to use. Mine fell apart while it was burning hot the first time I used it. I wish I hadn't wasted my money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Hard to Find Waffle Iron!
It is increasingly difficult to find waffle irons made with stainless steel and that can actually make more than one waffle at at time, which you need for a family. I couldn't find a place to rate the seller, so I hope this will do. I am very pleased with the product and the transaction!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best quality...
My mother has had her B&D Wafflemaker for years and it's fantastic. She bought me this one as a gift, but I have to say the quality is not nearly as good as it used to be. The chrome is very thin and the plates don't always line up easily and lock snugly into place. I had to bend the clips in the front so they wouldn't touch each other and cause the plates to come loose.

I don't agree with other reviewers that it doesn't get hot enough or bake waffles well. As long as you have a good recipe and keep them in long enough (until they stop steaming) then they will come out crisp and yummy. I don't recommend the receipe that comes with the unit- the batter is too thin. I have also used the griddle side for grilled cheese and it worked fine. Be sure to season your plates well before trying to use jellies or cheese on them.

All in all the wafflebaker works well, but the quality could be much better (especialy for the price!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and clean- Try a Grilled Ham & Cheese!
This product has been so much fun in the kitchen and works great. Grill 4 sandwiches at once. Oh boy are they GOOD! Easy to remove grilling plates make clean up a snap. (Very important for that melted Cheese over the edge!) Makes 4 waffles at a time. This is not a product to let your children use. The outside lovely chrome surfaces get extremely hot when in use and take a while to cool off after use. Try a Black & Decker citrus juicer if the kids want to help. They will enjoy that very much, and you'll have fresh juice to go with your waffles! :-) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best waffle maker on the market!
I've owned three or four waffle makers and none of them compare to the quality of this gem from Cuisinart. If you're picky about waffles--and why shouldn't you be?--then spend a little extra on this model and get effortless results. Here's what makes this a GREAT wafflemaker:

1) An accurate thermostat--no surprises when you open the lid
2) A consistent heating surface--avoid hot spots or undercooked waffles
3) A variable timer--essential if you have more than one waffle color preference in the family
4) Smart design--it stores on its side, taking up a LOT less space in your cupboard
5) Easy to clean exterior--cleans up with a damp paper towel
6) Dependable non-stick finish--unlike cheap waffle makers, the nonstick finish on this model does not wear out
7) Cool-touch lid--never burn your hand on a waffle maker again

I am genuinely thrilled with my Cuisinart waffle maker and I believe it's an absolute bargain. If you're used to spending big bucks on store-bought waffles--or if you have a cheap, junky waffle maker at home--treat yourself to this nice little unit. It's a low-cost luxury. Plus, you'll have a fun time making waffles (and impressing your family and friends!). Bon appetit!

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep Looking!
I bought this iron in April of 2003 and it broke yesterday (June 2004). I was in the middle of eating breakfast and the light just turned off and the iron won't work anymore. I was so mad that I got a hammer out of the closet and hit the machine a few times. DON'T BUY THIS WAFFLE MAKER! The price is nice and I did enjoy it - but I don't intend on buying a waffle maker every year. It was so disappointing and I'm very surprised that a cuisinart product would quit so soon after I bought it. I'm going to buy a higher quality machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars After two years, still making perfect waffles
I'm not sure what the others who wrote here are doing wrong. All you have to do is follow the directions. Use a half-cup measuring cup and pour in just that amount. You do not need to spread out the batter. Just close the lid. As for sticking, even nonstick surfaces need a little mist of oil every once in awhile. I give mine an EXTREMELY light spray maybe once every third time I pull it out to use it. It makes wonderful waffles and I never have problems with sticking. And it wipes clean, when cool, with a paper towel, if necessary. I use mine at least twice a week and have had it for two years. Very true-- the outside gets hot and will burn you, so it may not be the best choice if your young kids are actually helping you make waffles. My 4-year-old son sits on the counter next to it, though, and knows not to touch it.

My only gripe about the wafflemaker is that the shape isn't conducive to freezing them and popping them into the toaster. You can pull them into little triangles, but I wish I'd picked something that makes a smaller waffle.

Highly recommended-- especially for the price. The indicator light and the five browning settings take the guesswork out for you. No more opening the lid to check the waffle.

5-0 out of 5 stars This product works very well
I just can't believe why some people actualy rated this product with one star. It works very well, it doesn't stick AT ALL. Believe me, this is the good waffle maker. I will use this product forever.

1-0 out of 5 stars Best $30 product thrown down the garbage chute, ever!
This product is by far the worst purchase in my life. I'll admit, I didn't do any research on waffle irons but how can you not trust a name as widespread as Cuisinart? a very competent chef, with years of experience in professional and personal capacity, I consider myself capable of making waffles. In fact, I've MacGyver'd waffles in a bind on a camping trip with tent rods! No Joke! But this product makes everything about waffle making awful. Most notably:
1. Non-stick my foot. If you've ever wanted all your waffles sliced down the middle across their plane, this is the one for you.
2. Easy cleanup my other foot. Break out your chisel and toothbrush, because you'll need them.
3. Thrown down 20 stories of garbage chute, this produces the most wonderful acoustical symphony $30 can buy. The brushed stainless surface perfectly matched and resonated with the rusty, raw clanginess of sheet metal. Musical indeed.

Do yourself a favor and just ignite $30 on your own. Don't go through the hassle of purchasing this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!
I recently bought a really great ice cream machine and I happened to be browsing the internet and I saw this waffle cone maker. At first, I thought, "O.K., not another gadget!" but after reading several descriptions of the machine I decided to buy it. Thank God for going with my first mind!! This machine is incredible. After reading the brief instructions, I mixed up my batch of waffle cone mix (Chef's Choice) and set out on my adventure. Spraying a small amount of olive oil onto the heating pads (I always spray oil for the first time of each use) I poured my first coaster-sized amount of mix onto the machine; closed the lid and waited for the appropriate time to elapse. After opening the lid, out came this good smelling circular cone. Immediately, I lifted the cone using a rubber spatula; used the cone roller as indicated and Viola!! A great cone!! Not to mention the wonderful smell permeating my house!!
It took me two tries to get the right amount of mix to make the perfect cone. I had some of the mix slide out the sides of the problem, just wipe it off. When making your cone fold a small amount at the bottom before you begin rolling the cone; or pinch the bottom of the cone when rolling so that your ice cream will not come out at the end; or put some melted chocolate, butterscotch or caramel at the bottom and let it get hard...a tasty plug!!
The only thing I can think of that would make this one package complete is if the company would supply a rubber spatula, the towel (they mention using) or perhaps a pair of cotton gloves to help roll the is hot!! However, I really use just my hands. I get a better feel of the roller this way. And, please do not let these couple of items dissuade you from purchasing this machine. That would be terrible. We should all, hopefully, have a rubber spatula and towels!!
Cleaning the machine is a breeze. The non-stick heating pads are greatly appreciated.
I highly recommend this machine. What a great addition to any household that loves ice cream!!
Be Blessed!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Customer Lure
This is the best way to draw customers into our ice cream shop. They smell the waffle cones baking and we can't sell enough. Is there some way to guide me to a source or supplier who sells the waffle cone mix. The ice cream store I worked in 2 years ago bought the mix and all you had to do was add water. I can't seem to find out who sells it. It's quick and you can mix up any amount at a time instead of a full recipe. I would appreciate your help. Your cone maker is wonderful!
Thanks, Judith K. Tooker

5-0 out of 5 stars Great appliance!
My kids love waffle cones but they cost much $ at ice cream parlors and the store. Bought this waffle cone maker & its easy to use - just throw the cone ingredients in a bowl, stir, put the batter in the pan and 1 minute later you have a delicious fresh waffle cone. Could'nt be easier & I've saved lots of $ having cones at home instead of at the ice cream stands. Fun to make with groups of kids too!

This product is easy to use right out of the box. I got this a couple of days ago and have used it twice. The recipe booklet includes 3 recipes that are easy to follow. I have tried two of the recipes to rave results from my family. You can have fresh ice cream cones any time and they taste better than the supermarket cones in the box. These cones are a little smaller than the fresh waffle cones sold in the ice cream shops. The only thing you need to remember to do is to grease it well and often even though the waffle baker is non-stick some batter does get stuck in the grid of the waffle baker. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I Heart This Waffle Maker
I bought this waffle maker for my friend and we both enjoy it. The red light/green light cooking system works well and is easy to understand. The six different settings allow you to make any kind of waffle from gooey to fluffy to dark and crispy. The non-stick surfaces make it pretty easy to get the waffles out and make it easy to clean. My only word of caution is that the metal outside does become hot when cooking, so watch your fingers and definitely supervise children. It also comes with different batter recipes. I think the heart shapes are more fun and cuter than the regular circle waffles (but what can I say, I'm a girl). I would definitely recommend this product if you want a simple, cute waffle maker that's easy to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classy, easy to use!
This is great. I love the brushed stainless steel. It looks really classy. The heart shaped (or flower-shaped if you keep it whole) is fun and good for special occasions as well as every day. These make good sized waffles- most kids could eat one whole one. Also, the recommended batter amount makes a waffle that is more thin than thick. That is good, because they are more on the crispy side and less likely to be doughey.

The only problem (and it's a slight one) is once you put the batter in after preheating, the waffle maker doesn't register that there is batter in the maker until several moments later. You need to make sure to press down the lid firmly and just know that it will resume a red light and recognize that it is cooking in a few seconds.

There are several fun recipes included with the maker, from chocolate to whole-wheat waffles. The recipe for basic waffles is delicious! This waffle maker been a great purchase for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Waffles Every Time!
There isn't anything I don't like about this Waffle Maker.

It uses a red light/green light system to tell you when the waffles are ready (other than a noisy timer like other waffle makers). What I liked best about the Cuisinart is that it had 6 setting for lightness/darkness. I like my waffles on the dark side, so I was glad my waffle maker gave me this option.

With it's non-stick surface the waffles come right out, and clean-up is a snap.

The heart shape is fun for kids too! I'd never go back to a regular square or round shaped waffle. You can pull these apart into individual heart shapes or leave them together for one large flower shape.

You'll want to make Waffles every morning with the Cuisinart Heart-Shaped Waffle Maker! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Killer waffles, and they don't stick
The difference between Belgian and regular waffles is the depth of the hole in the waffle; Belgians are very deep. This makes for a light and crisp waffle. (In contrast German and American style waffles are more tender and flexible.)

This waffle iron is nicely compact and absolutely perfect for making delicious waffles. But I don't like the included recipe. Instead, I use this one:

2 egg whites, whip stiff
Mix next ingredients and fold egg whites into the batter:
2 egg yolks
3/4 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. butter melted (waffles have a lot of fat for crispness so they are a out.)
pinch of clove powder

Note that traditional Belgian waffles are made with a yeasted dough and can be done the night before. Toppings can be ice cream and chocolate sauce, powdered sugar, apple butter, or cherry pie filling, heated, with whipped cream, or just whipped cream and powdered sugar.

Either way, this waffler is just great for a party or fancy brunch.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
I purchased this waffle maker based on reviews and so far have only been completely satified with how the waffles turned out about 50% of the time. The back "burners" do not cook the waffle through as well as the front one when I use a thick batter and that part comes out doughy no matter how high I set the heat. A thin batter works better but I can still tell the differnce in the back portion of the waffle. I am disappointed with it and will probably purchase a different one at a later point. Next time I will not throw away the box until I've made sure it does what it's supposed to! If that wasn't the case I would rate it a 5 because it is easy to use, doesn't stick as long as it's been sprayed w/cooking spray prior to use, it is fast and the tones tell you when it is ready to use and when it is done. Perhaps mine is defective.

5-0 out of 5 stars The King (or Queen) of waffle irons!
This thing is heavy duty. Not your typical 14.99 cheapy from the local discount store. And it's well worth it! We've used it many times, cleanup's not a problem and when you want to make something special for a treat, it's easy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Kitchen Addition
I gotta be honest, I bought this as a Mother's Day gift for my wife. She's probably thinking it's the greatest gift she's ever gotten because now I'm constantly asking her if she wants me to whip her up a batch of waffles! It stores easily and clean-up has not been an issue. There is a small rim to catch overfilling accidents and so far it's kept the spills to a minimum. Learning curve is very gentle. The "Waffle Tone" actually does a very nice job of telling you when it's done. The waffles themselves are very good and I was extremely pleased with how evenly it cooks both sides. You cannot tell the top from the bottom. One recommendation is to go easy on the spray/oil/grease. The non-stick surface works very well so too much additive causes the waffle to not brown/cook quite as evenly. Very little practice required to get it right.

Instruction book has a few recipes which are pretty good. Standard pancake mixes have a waffle option on them that works really well and takes half the time to prepare (just add egg and oil to the regular mix). I added a little vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar and..........well, I'm getting hungry again.

Very good choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This waffler makes perfect belgians every time and I don't think I can live without it.

Let me get two small complaints out of the way. The dial has numbers from 1-6 on 1/4 of the dial, but the dial turns entirely, so it is a little confusing. Just make sure you line it up with one of the numbers. Secondly, it has a loud beep that dies off at the end. It sounds very odd and I don't know if it is defective, or if that is the intended "waffle tone". But despite these complaints, I highly recommend this model.

Once hot, on setting 4 it takes about 2-3 minutes to cook each waffle. And it doesn't take long to get hot.

A few tips:
* Buy Krusteas Belgian waffle mix
* Buy one of those plastic handled scrub brushes for two dollars at walmart and give it a quick brush after using it. I find that using it dry cleans it up nicely and gets in the crevices. It also gets rid of some of the old brown oil that can build.
* Definitely use pam or some spray. You don't necessarily need to put it on before every single waffle, but definitely before the first one. I forgot to do this one time and i had to chisel the pieces out.
* Strawberries and whipped cream. The frozen stawberries are good enough. Pecans and syrup. Blueberries... Endless possibilities.
* Try adding chocolate chips right on top of the batter after you pour it on the iron.

Use it for dinner and invite some friends, they won't be disappointed! ... Read more

This unusual rotating waffle maker is sure to elicit admiration from brunch guests. Made of brushed stainless steel with black accents, the unit not only looks elegant but cooks professionally. After ladling the batter into the deep nonstick bottom plate, the top is firmly closed. After ten seconds, by means of the insulated handle, the waffle maker is rotated upside down and allowed to cook for the remainder of the required time (recipes and times are included in the user guide). The result: two perfect 1-1/4-inch-thick Belgium waffles, crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. A dial features variable browning settings, and two lights indicate when the waffle maker is on and when to add batter. Two curved fixed legs keep the maker upright and a drip tray fits between them to collect any batter overflow. A release button on the handle allows it to collapse for storage. Measuring 7-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches, the cook plates can be wiped clean or conveniently removed and placed in the dishwasher. With the handle collapsed, the waffle maker measures 13 by 8-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches and is covered by a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Restaurant-style Waffles!
I recently stayed in a Seattle hotel whose brunch buffet featured a do it yourself waffle bar. The professional waffle maker featured a rotary system that intrigued me--you poured in your batter, rotated the cooking plates, and when the light came on, rotated it back and removed your waffle. This rotary gizmo seemed to make the waffles cook very evenly and crisply.

I set off on a quest to find my OWN rotary waffle maker. I purchased this Krups waffle maker and have been very happy with it. While not quite as heavy duty as the restaurant version I used in Seattle, this is a FINE waffle maker. Here are some of its features:

1) Very well made. Very solid. All parts fit precisely. It has a heavy, durable quality that makes me think it will last me the rest of my life.

2) Easy to clean. The cooking plates remove for easy cleaning. The drip pan snaps in and out very easily and keeps batter from oozing onto your counter.

3) Fun and easy to use. Your brunch guests will be wowed as they watch you rotate your waffle maker! It really does a superior job at making waffles. All the recipes I've tried so far have come out great (even the recipes in the owner's manual--more on that later).

Note that the editor's comments concerning the lights are not quite correct. There are two lights on the top of the unit. One glows red while it is heating, and the other light glows green when the unit is ready to use. The light does NOT come on when the waffle is finished cooking, which makes sense because while the waffle is cooking, the lights are ON THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT WHERE YOU CAN'T SEE THEM! However, it doesn't take long to figure out how long to cook the waffles after a test one turns out too brown or too light.

4) Easy to store. The handle folds up so you can pop this into a cabinet.

The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is the owner's manual. Maybe it's a translation problem (I assume the original was in German), but the recipes are bizarre.

First of all, American cooks will be disconcerted by the fact that amounts of flour, sugar, butter, etc., are given by weight, not volume (grams, not cups). But anyone with a kitchen scale can adjust to that. But there are other problems.

One of the recipes doesn't give a quantity for salt, it just says "add salt."

Another recipe doesn't give a quantity for sugar, butter, or flour, just says "add same weight as eggs." I weighed the five eggs (255 grams) and added that much sugar, butter, and flour. The recipe thus contained about two cups flour, two cups sugar, and two cups butter with no other liquid than the five eggs. Made kind of a thick, gritty batter that looked more like cake batter than waffle batter. The waffles cooked perfectly, but boy were they strange!! Kind of gritty from all that sugar. I hate to think how many calories they contained!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very happy
I looked for a long time before I decided on this one, and I am very happy with my choice. Things I like are as follows:

1)Makes great (I've used it on 6 separate occassions so far, average time per waffle has been less than 3 minutes)Waffles have come out of non-stick surface perfectly every time

2)Easy clean up (non-stick is just that in this case, and stainless drip tray also cleans up very easily)

3)Compact... for a rotary waffle maker, handle folds down to further compress its footprint on your countertop

4)Solid construction, this thing is solidly built without being unweildy, seems like it will last a long time ... Read more

This dandy waffler is a hoot and turns out perfect waffles every time. The clever ready light signals when the waffler is ready for the batter and again when the waffle is cooked just right, so there's no guesswork. The waffler also comes with a terrific little booklet that gives clear directions and some tasty recipes to get you started. It should only take you a waffle or two to get the hang of how much batter to pour into the grid and how to smooth it evenly over Mickey's face and ears. To lift out a perfect Mickey, be sure to loosen the ears first and work down the waffle from there. And always flip it over onto a plate: the bottom of the waffle is Mickey's best side. When your waffle feast is done, cleanup is a snap; the silicone nonstick surface really works. If a bit of batter does stick, just dab on some cooking oil and leave the waffler overnight. The next day it will wipe clean with a paper towel. The waffler was designed to stand on end for convenient storage, but we think it's a knockout and should be displayed on the kitchen counter for all to see. --C. Whitney-Ward ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hit With the Kids!
Using this waffler has become a Saturday morning tradition at our house. Cooks evenly, produces nice waffles. The only drawback is that it takes awhile to cook a family batch of waffles, so we use an additional (regular) waffler as well, to speed things up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it
This product is a lot of fun.

A bell would be nice to tell you when it's done but no big deal. Shouldn't be walking out of the kitchen with something like this on anyway. You do hear a click when the light turns on.

We use a large water bottle to dispense the batter. That way you can squeeze it out of a small opening and distribute it evenly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
For my birthday my daughter gave me a Villaware Mickey Waffler. The waffler was intended to replace our well used Vitantonio Model 1950 Mickey waffler. Our family grew up with that waffler and used it for many years.

The Villaware waffler is quite a disappointment. The issue is not its operation. The issue is the image of Mickey that is formed in the waffle. The image is very shallow, resulting in a waffle that doesn't even look like a waffle. My daughter had one of the waffles, and even she was disappointed with the waffler. I had previously hesitated to return it because it was a gift from her. It has now been returned.

This is a wonderful addition to my Disney collection but I use this one. It makes the waffles - from pancake mix in a box - and everyone is perfect. I use spray (pam) no oil and there is no sticking to the surface. Now I need the larger one, (5 grands), but I use the chefs suggestion, keep them in the oven until all ar ready. 5 thumbs up ... Delicate, lacy designs and subtle sweetness make pizzelles excellent accompaniments to a rich coffee or cappuccino. With intricate patterns, these 3-inch cookies look difficult to make, but a child would have a great time printing them out: you just pour in the batter, close the lid, remove, and enjoy. 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Little Pizzelles
When we found out that there are actual pizzelle bakers, we decided to try one out. We actually made a batch as soon as the item arrived at our door. The pizzelles made with this pizzelle baker are a little smaller than the store-bought kind, but that just means less crumbs and pizzelle pieces to clean up AND a lot more pizzelles in less time. We made 30 pizzelles in fifteen minutes, including mixing the ingredients and cleaning up! The relatives will love their pizzelle packages this coming winter -- the baker comes with several recipes to ensure everyone's tastebuds are satisfied.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works very nice
The works great! We have used it for a couple of weeks now and we haven't had any trouble. Our old one that was made by a different company wasn't very durable and was pain to deal with. However this is very easy to setup. Just plug it in and start mixing the batter. Then spoon about 1/2 to 3/4 a tablespoon onto the iron and lightly press down. After about 35-45 seconds, lift the iron and pullout the pizzelles. It takes a little time to get good at it, but once you get good, they'll become your favorite snack! It comes with a recipe book too!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good performance, but serious design flaws
This made in China small appliance was bought by my husband as a replacement for a ratty looking electric pizzelle maker that is almost as old as the hills. But as your grandmother used to say, pretty is as pretty does. The rating I gave for this--3 stars--is a compromise. For its performance when all goes well, I would give it 4 stars; for what I regard as its serious design flaws, 2 stars, since I'm in a good mood.

What's good about this is the performance, as other reviewers have written. Like the little girl in the nursery rhyme, "when she was good, she was very, very good, but when she was bad, she was horrid."

And when is this item bad?
* When your recipe is just a little too rich, and the slight amount of excess fat runs down the side, smoking the kitchen up just enough to set off the smoke detector. (If this had a channel around the margin of the plates, like my old electric pizzelle maker, or at least a channel around the lower plate, this disaster would be avoided. The fats would collect in the channel, you'd soak them up periodically with a paper towel, and all would be well.)
* When your family member offers to help and doesn't measure precisely the amount of batter--and the excess oozes out and down the sides--which are definitely NOT non-stick. (Again, if this had a channel around the margin of the plates, like my old electric pizzelle maker, the inconvenience of such clean ups would be avoided.)
* When you are trying to develop a lower fat, heart-healthy version of those beloved pizzelles--and they stick and/or burn. The non-stick isn't meant to be THAT non-stick. Further baking comes to a complete halt while this cools down and gets cleaned.
* When you step away "for a moment" to check the front door, or to answer the phone, and come back later than expected, to find the contents smoking and burnt. An on/off switch would be helpful; this one turns off only when unplugged.

I never did find a way to remove the panels. (My old one not only allows you to do that, it reverses to make regular waffles.) Perhaps you will be luckier. I also bought one of those pricey little scoops that measure and release exact quantities of batter. (The scoop helped.) In the end, I returned the new one and am sticking with the old. (The little measuring scoop is great with that one, too.)

BOTTOM LINE: If this is your first electric pizzelle maker, you won't have the option of sticking with the old version. I've tried, but still haven't found one with the two features I'd like--removable panels and a channel around the margin. At least be aware that this one has limitations, and perhaps think about spending the money for one of those scoops that measure precisely. And be sure to unplug it if you walk away for any reason!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy pizzelles just like my grandmother used to make!
I recently got married, and my sisters purchased this for my shower. Our mother's family is Italian, and pizzelles were always a treat when we were growing up. As I got older, I made them myself using my mother's old iron, and as a bride, I wanted to have my own. This iron is very easy to use and makes perfect pizzelles. After the iron heats up (about 7-8 minutes), it makes two cookies in about 30 seconds. You may have to adjust the amount of batter used as well as the cooking time in order to get the perfect shape and doneness, but the results of this trial and error are well worth it. The pizzelles remove from the iron easily with a spatula; I experienced no sticking, and clean up was a breeze. Highly recommended!

This waffle baker really works. Pour in the batter, close the lid, and flip once--either sideways or front to back--and in five minutes two thick and fluffy Belgian waffles are ready. It's amazing. The flipping creates an air pocket in the center of the waffle that's pure chemistry. There are also several features that make using this device almost foolproof (though there is a slight learning curve). A well-written recipe book is included that provides some delicious waffle recipes and great baking tips, even if you're using a prepackaged mix. The indicator light is also great: it turns green when the baker is ready for the batter, eliminating guesswork. And the nonstick surface is super--when your waffles are done (five minutes is a good benchmark, and the lid should lift easily), they peel off the grid smoothly. Cleanup is easy, too. A covered hinge and a batter channel prevent messy spills, and the nonstick surface wipes clean with a sponge or a soft brush. Best of all, the waffle baker stores upright. All in all, this is a dandy addition to any kitchen. --C. Whitney-Ward ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars really very good
Only have used it a few times, but its easy and almost foolproof.
I'm only using Aunt Jemima or Hungry Jack pancake mix for now. Tried adding 2 small bananas to the basic recipe. For that, I needed a spray-on oil, like Pam. Little booklet does warn you that recipes with extra sugar may require spraying.

Wish it had a timer, like some more expensive ones. But maybe a timer wouldnt really help. Depending on what's in the waffle, it might take a different amount of time to cook. With bananas thrown into the most basic Aunt Jemima mix, I found the waffles required a bit more time. But u cant wait til the steaming stops before removing these banana waffles. I guess the bananas will keep on steaming , long after waffle is already quite golden. Even tho I've experimented a bit, there's nothing about this machine that's gonna fool u much. It stores upright, everything is basically good.

The booklet does tell u to start with simple stuff and experiment later. If u have a huge family, maybe u would be better off with an iron that makes 4 at a time. Anyway, overall, I'm quite pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Waffles!!!!!!!!!!!
I was a bit apprehensive about buying a waffle iron that suggested "flipping" the unit for the fluffiest waffles. Actually, the process is very simple and the finished product is great. Waffles are evenly cooked and are a perfect golden brown. Indicator lights seem to work very well. The non-stick finish makes clean up a breeze. I would highly reccommend this appliance to anyone looking for a waffle maker which allows them to make wonderful restaurant quality Belgian waffles at home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for a crowd!
I used this for the first time this weekend...I used belgian waffle mix and they turned out great! No sticking, no guesswork, and my guests liked the ability to eat the "stix" rather than a huge waffle if they just wanted a little bit more. It cooked consistently and the waffles were very easy to remove. This one is a keeper! Even a guest was interested in getting one for her own home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Waffles, Great Price
We have had this for about 6 weeks now, and used it 4 times. Each time it has worked quite well. The recipe book is very helpful, both with new kinds to try and general hints for making the waffles. We make double and triple batches so we have plenty for quick breakfasts out of the freezer during the week. As has been previously posted, make sure you understand this does not have a timer or indicator light for waffle completion, so you will have to time it yourself, and watch for the cessation of steam as an indicator of "doneness". It is not hard to use, and turns out a light, fluffy waffle every time you follow the directions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Waffles, Easy to Use
The signifigant other has deligated all waffle making to me since I got this Flip 'n Fluff baker. I have not had a problem with sticking as I have used a very light application of Canola Oil spray from the start. On occasion the waffle will fall off the top plate before the lid is all the way open. Otherwise a slight nudge with a plastic fork works.

I have been using Bisquick & the waffle recipe from the box with minor modification. I substitute melted butter for the oil & add one teaspoon of Vanilla Extract for flavor enhancement. The box recipe is for 12 standard waffles, I got 8 belgian with a little batter left over. Now I tripple the recipe & store the extra batter in the refrigerator. Allow the batter to come to room temprature before use. Ihop & Denneys eat your heart out.

As the stove is not being used, I put a small amount of water on the plates, stack them, place in the microwave for 50 seconds & have hot plate centers with cool rims for handeling, dump the water in sink, wipe & thay are ready for the waffles. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this wafflemaker!
The appearance of the wafflemaker is great...silver, shiny, modern motif. The bright red and green lights, as well as the bell that rings when the waffles are done are great thoughts, too. HOWEVER...I've now tried 2 of this model. Both have failed miserably in making a burned every waffle, no matter the setting. The other cooked only one side of the waffles ( and we tried various recipes). I would not recommend this one, gang, until the bugs are worked out!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this waffle maker but ny kids love it more
My wife bought this for me on Fathers Day and we have used it at least three to four times a month since we got it.
This is one nice Waffle maker, built very sturdy. I've never had a waffle stick, just set the automatic timer that lets you know when the waffles are done, reach in with a plastic fork (don't want to scratch the non-stick surface) then pop them loose and they come right out. Not like my old waffle maker where I had to spray it every time I used it.
Just be sure to follow instructions when you first get it about how to treat the surface.
I would definitely recommend this product 5 stars + + + + +.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it!
I won't repeat the detailed reviews below, but they're right on target. This machine is a wonderful addition to my breakfast (and dinner and dessert!) options. I remember my mother struggling to use (and store) the old waffle iron when I was a kid. That kept me from getting one until now. The VillaWare works great. The waffles don't stick, it's easy to clean and it stores upright. What more could I ask for?

2-0 out of 5 stars Tried it, and returned it
This was my second waffle iron, first one a different brand. I did not like this one, it has a "waffle tone" that sounds like the smoke alarm going off, it went off when it preheated, when the waffle was ready, when the waffle iron cooled a little and reheated, it went off way too often. Made all of us nervous. Waffle quality did not come out great, either. Disappointed, still looking for a belgian waffle iron instead. But will definetly not buy one with that awful waffle tone.

My wife likes Belgian waffles and I like the ordinary kind. We had been using a sunbeam waffle maker that we got for a wedding present and a Black and Decker Belgian waffle maker that we'd picked up in the Eighties. Both of these were getting pretty ratty. I replaced them for our 30th anniversary with a Hoffritz HZBW4 4-Slice Belgian waffler and a Villaware 2001C classic waffler. I liked the looks of the Hoffritz, but couldn't find it in a regular waffle. Anyway, we've been using them for a couple of months now, and here's the take on them:
They're both great, but I like the Hoffritz better. I like the digital controls. It takes a little longer to cook a waffle than the Villaware, but just long enough to take care of the waffle from the Villaware before the Hoffritz signals it's done. They both have audible "ready" signals and lights. The Hoffritz is quite a bit larger than the Villaware. They both look good. They both cook great waffles. The Villaware has kind of a tacky mechanical lever for setting how "done" you want your waffle; this lever does not ratchet, so it is easy to accidentally change the setting. This is the main reason I don't give this product a "5". The Hoffritz has a button for a "crispy" waffle; I haven't noticed that it does anything different when set; set at "3" it makes the waffles crispy like my wife prefers. I like my waffles less crispy; I've been using the Villaware set at "5," but I think I'm going to try jacking it up a little, as the waffles are pretty pale, although "done". The outside of the Villaware seems to get hotter than the Hoffritz; and stays hot a lot longer; maybe because it's made of cast aluminum rather than the Hoffritz's stainless steel. I read a review of a waffler where the person was complaining about the outside getting dangerously hot. As far as I know that's true of all wafflers, and neither of these are an exception. Bottom line, they're both imminently satisfying, if I had to choose between the two, I'd want them to make a Hoffritz that cooks "regular" waffles. ... Read more

From whole-wheat waffles with fresh fruit to buttermilk waffles with syrup to chocolate waffles with whipped cream, waffles are as healthy or as decadent as you choose to make them. But one thing is constant: the difference between homemade and frozen waffles is like that between sirloin and shoe leather. There's no longer any need to be afraid of making waffles, because Villaware's heart waffler practically makes them for you: an auto-light tells you when to pour the batter and when to remove the waffles, and an auto-thermostat controls the temperature so you don't risk wasting first attempts. The nonstick coating reduces every recipe's fat content, justifying more butter, syrup, and whipped cream later, and a spill trough helps keep mess at bay. The darker-colored nonstick surface also enables better waffle browning. The nonstick surface will not easily scratch, but should be cleaned with a soft cloth or waffle brush with plastic bristles. As an added bonus, each waffle is in a cute heart shape. --Laura Cuthbert ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Far from perfect...
I already had an electric waffle iron made by Salton that was turning out great looking and delicious tasting *round* waffles. But because of the rave review I read here (plus it was nearing Valentine's day), I gave in and bought this Villaware heart-shaped waffle iron.

And sure it worked - but not as good as I expected for this price. As it has five different temperature settings (supposedly gives you control over how soft/crisp you want it), I tried out three: At "2" the batter was not yet set in the middle when the "waffle tone" sounded. At "4" it was too browned even for my husband's taste. I can only imagine how runny "1" would be and how burnt "5" would be - seriously, why do they give you five settings when only one of them work? At "3" the waffle tasted close to the way I like it, but even then, like all the other settings I tried on this, the color was uneven throughout the surface of the waffle. There were patches that were very pale and spots that were a medium brown.

The other bummer is this: It is impossible to make perfect heart shapes. I tried different consistencies in the batter and really attempted to fill in the scalloped edge, but as it cooks, the batter rises unevenly and when you divide the finished waffle into five little hearts, they're always a little crooked.

So - while this one certainly works and may thrill people who have no prior waffle making experience or are simply less demanding, its relatively high price only brings extra features (heart shape, temp control, "waffle tone" alarm...) that are unnecessary and don't work well. I find my cheaper Salton model... still works much better.

My humble advice: Go for a simpler model without all these bells and whistles, all you need to look for is a good quality non-stick surface. The doness can be easily controlled by how long you cook the waffle (the amount od steam is a good indication). I will stay loyal to my old waffle iron from now on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Foolproof
Makes perfect waffles everytime. Love the look and the taste of the waffles.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waffles are too thin / flat
As a romantic, I purchased this heart shaped waffle maker. The flaw is that the waffles come out too flat, with not enough indentation and texture. The waffles were more pancake-like than waffle-like.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yum
great machine, alarm is not to loud, waffels are wonderful. Kids and wife enjoy the heart shaped waffels, well worth the money. I almost rated it 5 stars.......

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect waffles everytime - even for beginners
I had never made waffles before, and after reciving this as a wedding gift, I knew that was the time. It couldn't have been easier. I set it at about 3.5 and it lets me know when it's properly heated, lets me know when my waffles are done, and it's no mess! I couldn't be happier with it.
The ONLY downfall is you can't surprise someone with breakfast in bed because the alert is pretty loud, but it sure keeps you making perfect waffles! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars booklet
I like the machine, but it arrived without a recipe booklet/manual. If anyone can help, please e-mail.

5-0 out of 5 stars VillaWare 5230, marvelous!
After searching for a product to make pizelles, I purchased this one, as it could do three things and the price was great. It arrived promptly (even though I live in Hawaii, and ordered for Christmas, late). Its easy to use, way easy to clean. Makes delicious, fast waffles. Making a sandwhich was kind of messy, but it cleaned up by just rinsing! FAST/EASY/SIMPLE/GREAT QUALITY/NAME BRAND.
Amazon rocks!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Concept - Very Poor Quality
I love the idea of a multitasking machine but the quality is just not there. I have returned two of these bakers because they were cracked on the inside accross the screw holes which caused the plates to fall out. The second one I purchased was not only cracked but the latch would not stay closed. I used the first one to make waffles and pizzelles. They baked very slowly, much slower than the recipes/directions indicated and only the bottom (which gets hotter than the top) would get crispy and brown. VillaWare has a long way to go to perfect this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars There's got to be a better waffle iron out there
I liked the idea of having 3 machines in one. I never got a chance to try the pizzelle maker because it broke before I got around to it. The sandwich feature seemed to be the best part, but it was not deep enough for anything other than square, storebought squishy bread if you wanted to close it. This is actually what led to its demise. They do warn you not to force it closed, but when you have an 11 yr old in the house sometimes warnings are not heeded when a grilled cheese sandwich is on the line. She pushed on it, the plastic housing broke setting the hinge off and exposing the wires. It is amazing though that this item is not as strong as a grilled cheese sandwich! The real disappointment though was that the waffles took forever to make and when they were done the bottoms were browner than the tops. It does not seem to be capable of making crisp waffles either. The advice that one wait for the steam to stop is useless as they are still not done. Also, there is no color setting, no beeper, and the cord storage is awkward.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does all 3 well
Despite the previous review I love this item. It makes crispy waffles with nice deep wells for syrup. It's pizzelle plate is perfect. In 100 seconds you can pop off a soft pizzelle, and either lay it on a rack to harden or drape over a custard cup for a shaped one. Recipe is tasty and easy to vary. Only needs one change in the recipe book--tell people that these cookies harden after they're baked--within 10 seconds actually. Everyone love the results with this cooker. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect waffle every time!
I've tried many different waffle irons over the years and this, by far, is the best one. I've used it several times so far and every single waffle, no matter what recipe I use, comes out perfect. Nothing sticks and when the "done" tone sounds, it's ready!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like a fresh waffle, buy this!!
The Villaware Perfect Waffler 3000 is absolutely terrific! I'd been living on Eggo Waffles so long that I'd forgotten how delicious a freshly made waffle could be. This machine heats quickly (the tweet-tweet whistle is a nice touch) and in just minutes, a crispy waffle is ready to eat. I like that I can change the darkness (and crispiness) of each waffle and that the tweet-tweet tells me that it's done if I'm preparing other breakfast items simultaneously. No burnt waffles for me ... Mine are "perfect" everytime just like Villaware claims. When I wear this one out, I'm buying another one just like it. I must say, I LOVE this waffler. Anyone who doesn't like this machine must have gotten a defective one. Mine's just fabulous and my family agrees ... The price is great, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this Waffle Baker
Just bought this one. I love the fact that the temperature settings are easy to adjust, the knob is large and firm enough that you can tell what you're doing. My kids love the "tweety tweet" sound when the waffles are done. There is a light to watch, but you don't have to! Easy to keep clean. Non-stick is great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great waffles - annoying beeps
I think this is a great product - by the time you are pouring the batter in for waffle #3 on the first day, you have mastered the details. It is easy to use and makes wonderful waffles - however the beeps are just so discordant and loud that one wonders why the manufacturer could not have found a more pleasing sound. I definitely would not use this early in the morning!

5-0 out of 5 stars A long search finally ended
I have literally been looking for years for a good waffle maker. That search ended with the Villaware 3000. I agree with the other reviews that say that the Villaware delivers perfect waffles from the first (even the initial throw-away waffle). Gone are my past frustrations with waffles sticking and pulling apart. I have used the waffle iron several times and have not had a hint of a problem yet. In light of the criticisms of the sound and volume of the ready tone, when I first used the waffle iron I braced myself and stood back a little. While the tone is high-pitched, anyone who would toss the waffle iron out on that basis is perhaps just a little overly sensitive. It allows you to go to another room and not have to stand watch over the iron as it cooks. And while the dial on top is a little loose when the iron is cold, it does have reference numbers and it does have limits on how far it can be turned in each direction (it does not spin endlessly). The dial can definitely be used to make a difference in how dark the waffle is. I highly recommend this waffle iron. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe mine is defective?
I purchased this waffle maker based on the positive reviews written here. I made ten waffles with it - following all instructions - and not one was cooked properly. The top never cooked or took on any color. Once I put enough batter in so it overflowed (to make sure I was using enough to get it up into the top grids), but the top side never cooked well at all. The bottom side was perfect, but the top never browned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just about the best I have found
I have the model with the round knob on the top. This unit looks like it may have replaced the one I have, moving the temp control to the front. Otherwise, it is the same. I have used many waffle makers from the cheapest B&D to the fancy new Villaware. I keep returning to a pair of these that I have. Strong heating elements, thorough and fast cooking, non-stick is holding up great and very even cooking. Nice crispy waffles. The lock down is the key as it forces the batter to rise up into the upper pockets where they are cooked evenly. This IS THE ONE, trust me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Waffles for breakfast!
We had our first waffles this morning, using the Cuisinart Belgian Waffler. Couldn't have been easier to use, and the waffles couldn't have tasted better! The non-stick coating releases the waffles instantly. The reason I rated it four stars instead of five, is that if the batter oozes out of the waffler, clean-up is a bit harder. ... Read more
