Amazon.com Review

Outdoor lounges are excellent for barbecues, afternoon lemonade breaks, and summer tanning sessions. Crafted from beautiful Western red cedar, this chaise longue is 62 inches long and features hidden steel-rod reinforcements to help it endure years of outdoor use. Sealed with a clear preservative to weather rain and snow, the cedar with mortise-and-tenon joinery will last for years to come. The seat is wide (24 inches across) and offers three angles: fully upright, reclined, and almost completely flat, encouraging hours of outdoor leisure. Assembly was relatively easy thanks to wing-nut tightening, but the cryptic directions slowed us down, and it took 45 minutes to get the chaise together. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! A place to put your coffee
Even without the pull out tray this would be a great lounge chair. I bought two and the wood is of good quality -- no severe rough spots or splinters. The corners are champhered (sp) so there are no sharp edges. The ends of post and rails are sanded round.

The hardware is either brass or galvanized. The staples used look to be stainless steel. There are very few staples -- a construction shortcut some furniture manufacturers use.

The slats are countersunk into the rails. They will not come out. The wood is thick and sturdy: legs, back, slats and rails.

The finish was a oil base stain. The manufacturer put a card in the package with the brand so I could buy more to keep the cedar looking top notch! I liked the look so much I am going to wash the deck and stain it too.

All the screws were there. All the pieces fit together. I for once did not need to go to the hardware store to complete assembly.

I assembled each chaise in about an hour with a Phillips head and slot screwdriver, a Crescent wrench and a hammer. I am a lightweight when it comes to hand tools, so I did get out the drill and pre-bore 4 screw holes.

And they recieve the 100% comfy rating from the cat Checkers. She was making herself at home before I could even get the first one put together. (And as been out there every day since!)

It gets the same rating from me too! The foot of the bench and the back are slightly curved -- which makes it very comfortable for naps in the sun... Best of all, there's a place to put my coffee!

4-0 out of 5 stars I'll be outside...
I wasn't surprised to learn that my Chaise Lounge chairs were back ordered. At this price and no charge for shipping, I imagined the whole country waiting for theirs! It was easy as pie to track the shipping status so I knew when to expect them. There aren't many times I've assembled anything but I found this easy as well. I'm pleased with the quality of the wood used. All the bolts and washers and so on were present. It is light enough to move from the shade of a tree to the sun on the deck. The back support is a tad short even at five foot four. It did not stop me from having a well deserved nap. The dog is lovin' it as well but he thinks it's a sofa and we need to cuddle...it's too hot! Looks great, feels solid, totaly functional slide out table for a number of items. You'll like it!A five star rating if it came put together.

2-0 out of 5 stars Chips & Dents Easily
What this product makes up for in beauty, it lacks in sturdiness. We found that it took several tries to receive a lounge that was neither chipped or dented, and eventually returned our.

1-0 out of 5 stars poorly made lounges
I purchased 2 of these and yes they assemble very easily. However, both of them have broken after less than 2 months. One of them split on the backside where you lay it down. My son leaned back and it just cracked!!! (He weighs 50 lbs!) The other cracked several days later the same way. There was no force and it was being lowered slowly. What a shame, the placement of the bolts seem to be a contributing factor.

1-0 out of 5 stars poor quality
The wood is cheap jointed pieces pretending to be solid wood. The main frame of the chaise gave way at one of these jointed areas the very first time the chaise was used. I am awaiting a refund. It's a pity because the design of the chaise is very nice and if it had held together it would have been a good buy. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Completely wireless and simple to install, this home weatherstation tracks and stores data about more than 20 weather conditionsand displays them on a touch-screen LCD monitor that measures only 8inches wide by 5-1/2 inches high. The instruction booklet accompanyingthe weather station is easy to comprehend, making the stationaccessible to children, as well as adult hobbyists, gardeners, campers, and fishing enthusiasts. There are three outdoor sensors, each poweredby a solar cell: an anemometer that attaches to a building, fence, orroof to measure wind speed and direction; a thermo-hygrometer tomeasure temperature and humidity; and a self-emptying rain gauge. (Atleast six hours of sunshine are needed to operate the solar cells for24 hours. Each sensor has a backup battery-power unit that requires twoAA batteries--not included.) A 4-1/4-by-2-3/4-inch baro-hygrometermeasures indoor temperature, barometric pressure, and humidity, andmounts on a wall or stands on a desk. (It requires four AAAbatteries--not included.)

The touch-screen monitor keeps track of the indoor and outdoor sensors, and also displays local weather/barometric pressure forecasts.Additionally, it has a calendar/clock, an alarm that sounds whensensors detect conditions beyond parameters set by the user, a memorybutton for retrieving past data, and an AC power adapter. (Its backupbattery-power unit requires four AA batteries--not included.) Thesystem can support three additional remote sensors and can interfacewith a PC. 3-0 out of 5 stars Careful !!!
I purchased this unit. Works fine, communicates with software package purchased separately, HOWEVER, it does NOT have the atomic clock feature of most Oregon Scientific clocks. The clock update feature is one way only, from weather station to PC. I have atomic clock software on my PC, so I cannot use this feature. Oregon Scientific customer service said that the self-adjust feature was supposed to be included in the units, but was not, and that they had no plans to fix it. Otherwise, the performance is great if you remember that this is a burst transmission and not continous.

3-0 out of 5 stars Instruction Manual is poorly written.
You have to read between the lines a lot when assembling this unit. Not too difficult if you have some mechanical knowledge. So far so good, time will tell on its longevity when in operation.

4-0 out of 5 stars weather station
It took about 4 hours to complete the installation. It worked right out of the box as advertised. You need tools and experience with building and installing electrical type projects i.e. Heath Kits. If you like tinkering around. This is for you. If you want instant stuff forget it. It is wireless but will not jump out of the box and set up it's self up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Do your homework
The Oregon Scientific WMR968 is a very inexpensive but complex weather instrument. I have been researching home weather stations for over a year now, and just purchased the WMR968 from Amazon.com when the price dropped by half. At the current price it is worth the extra trouble to get it to do what it should do. At this price, you have to expect to do some extra fiddling to get it to perform. If you really want a weather station that is going to perform perfectly, time after time, right out of the box, keep looking. This isn't the one for you. But, on the other hand, for those of you who like me have very little cash to spend on a home weather station, this is a good buy.

Only beware! As is noted in these reviews, and on many other consumer review web sites, the manual that comes in the box is trash! Do not use that manual to set up and tune your WMR968. Please, please, please, go to the Radio Shack website and download the manual for the Radio Shack Cable Free Weather Station with AccuWeather, and use that one, it is excellent! The Radio Shack weather station is identical in all respects to the one sold under the Oregon Scientific brand name, except that, for some reason, it has a real manual written by a real American, and it has all the information you need. Note, that the manual that comes with the Oregon Scientific weather station has 9 pages. The Radio Shack manual has 36 pages.

My advice: if you decide to take the risk and purchase the Oregon Scientific WMR968 from Amazon.com, like I did, read all the consumer reviews, even the nasty ones. You should know what might happen to you. Gather up as much information as you can. I have found several exellent tips on setting up and tuning the WMR968 on this and other web sites. Another suggestion: join and contribute to a weather station bulletin board, such as WeatherMatrix.net. Share your knowledge and experience with others. Finally, don't be tempted to cut corners when setting up your weather station. The sensitive electronics are not tolerant of abuse. Do your best to make sure everything outdoors is weather-tight.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre Product
For the price, this product has turned out to be extremely mediocre. I decided to purchase the weather station as a gift based upon the outstanding reputation of Oregon Scientific. While, the indoor/outdoor temperature gauge as well as the barometer have worked flawlessly, the rain and wind gauge have never worked correctly (not from lack of trying).

Based upon a price of $400, I expect all the instruments to function flawlessly (assuming proper installation, of course). This simply hasn't happened. There are any number of less-expensive competing weather stations on the market that offer the indoor/outdoor temperature gauge and barometer. I spent the extra money on this product for the additional features of the rain and wind gauge. Since these features have never worked properly, I would not recommend this product. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A world-class collection of nonstick cookware, Emerilware bears the signature of celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse (Bam!) and was created in partnership with renowned cookware maker All-Clad. Durable, heavy, and beautiful, Emerilware combines the contemporary style of charcoal black hard anodized-aluminum with the contemporary ease of nonstick. The exceptional thickness (5 mm) of the hard anodized-aluminum and three layers of tough nonstick provide better heat retention and scratch-resistance. Ideal for low-fat, healthful cooking, Emerilware carries a lifetime warranty against defects.

This 10-piece set of Emerilware will win the hearts of Emeril fans and other serious cooks. It consists of an 8-inch fry pan, a 10-inch fry pan, a 2-1/2-quart saucepan with lid, a 3-1/2-quart saucepan with lid, a 3-quart sauté pan with lid, and a 6-quart stockpot with lid. The 18/10 stainless-steel lids display a gleaming mirror finish and fit tightly on the pot and pans' flared lips, which prevent drips when pouring. The long handles have indented thumb rests and are rounded for comfort. Cast of stainless steel, the polished handles are riveted for strength, stay cool on the stovetop, and are oven-safe. Emerilware should be hand washed. --Fred Brack

5-0 out of 5 stars I listened to all the other reviewers!
I needed new pots and pans, so I started looking around and everyone I knew was getting or already had Calphalon. I came on Amazon to figure out what kind of Calphalon to buy....like the professional or the cheap kind like at Target. After reading the reviews, I decided to give the Emerilware a try since everyone raved about them. If you notice the Emerilware reviewers have given it five stars! And now, it's been three months that I've been using my Emerilware and I just wanted to thank the other reviewers for pointing me in the right direction! I love this cookware. This is truely a sturdy, quality product and my cooking even tastes better. You can't put these in the dishwaher, but you don't need to...one little wipe with the sponge cleans them right up! So for all you brides out there or people like me who've worn out their pots....don't take the easy way out and get what everyone else has.......get the Emerilware!

5-0 out of 5 stars Emeril hits a home run!
Emerilware by All-Clad has a sturdiness to it that shouts quality the first time you pick it up.
*The heavyweight thickness of the aluminum retains heat well and distributes heat flawlessly so there are no hot or cool spots.
*The quality of the multilayer nonstick material is comparable to Calphalon Commercial Nonstick, which is very, very similar although perhaps a little lighter in weight.
*The price for this set on Amazon can't be beat! It's priced the same here as the substandard lines of cookware available at [local store]!
*Lifetime warranty by a quality company means you can buy with confidence.
*Stay-cool, sturdy metal handles can go into the oven and have a handy and comfortable notch for your thumb.
*The combination of matte grey anodized aluminum bottoms and stainless lids and handles make a stunning design statement for your kitchen.

Folks concerned about the heavyness of the Emeril pans should check them out in the store, and compare to the Calphalon Commercial products, which also carry a lifetime warranty and have excellent cooking characteristics.

This particular set would be an excellent starter for a couple. Families and entertainers will need to add at a minimum a 12-inch frypan and an 8-quart stockpot, also available here at Amazon.

Enjoy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Unimpressed
On initial purchase of my Emeril skilliet, I was quite pleased with the significant mass of the skillet, its' handsome looks, how evenly it gained temprature, and yes, how well the nonstick surface released. Though the skillet was never touched with a metal implement, never in a dishwasher, always allowed to cool naturally ( meaning not immersed in water right from the stove ), after only 4 months of use is sticks badly! Considering the care it received, I can only assume that this may be the result of abrasions caused by spices or the one i received was a lemon. I am clueless, but know in either case I am unimpressed and the product has miserably failed to meet my expectations for what I expected from this caliber of product. Hence, why I am here today shpping for new skillets. I read many good reviews here, and I wish all the best of luck. Maybe if you don't use them as frequently as I do, you will have years of service. I however, wont purchase another.

4-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT PANS, LOUSY LIDS
I purchased this set and am very satisfied with the pans themselves. They cook evenly, do not stick and clean easily. My complaint is that the stainless lid handle becomes so hot that a pot holder is required to remove them. I certainly did not expect this problem from a set of this 'quality'.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lagasse Let Me Down
I purchased this cookware set as a Christmas gift to myself in 2002. I was initially very pleased and enjoyed the durability and ease with which items could be cooked. But now after a year and a half I'm very disappointed in the skillets. They are hard to clean and even with a good cleaning food is sticking to the nonstick surface. I would expect this from a lower quality product from a warehouse store but these carrry Emeril's name. Also, I watch, "Emeril Live" frequently and he doesn't appear to be using this cookware set as much as his stainless. ... Read more

This self-cleaning litter box eliminates most odors whilekeeping the litter pleasingly fresh for tabby. It's ingenious indesign: a cat entering the box triggers a sensor; the sensor sets atimer that counts off 10 minutes; then a rake runs through the litter, scooping out clumps and depositing them in a plastic container at thebox's end; the container is automatically sealed until the next catvisit, when the raking cycle opens the container for another deposit.(Four reusable/disposable containers are included.) The litter box canbe plugged into a wall socket (AC adapter included) or operated oneight D-cell batteries (not included). For safety, the rake stops and reverses at the slightest touch if anobject gets behind the rake while it's returning to its home position. If a cat re-enters the box before the initial 10 minutes have elapsed, the timer automatically resets. The litter box is made of hard plasticand measures 23-1/2 inches long, 16-1/2 inches wide, and 8-1/2 incheshigh. For proper operation, it requires premium clumping litter butdoes not need as much as a nonautomated litter box of the same size. For cleaning, the litter tray can be detached. 4-0 out of 5 stars One cat owner
I own one cat and she's not all there, so I thought this box would help. My roommate made me get it. I love the fact that I don't have to touch the litter. It's in my bedroom, so I turn it off at night since it has a very loud motor. A lot of time though the urine clumps get stuck in the rake and I have to get them out myself, so we are back to the old way of doing things. I know it's not the litter, because I tried two of the 4 they recommend. I can't find the Littermaid litter in the store, otherwise I would try it. I found to fix the urine problem, I turn it off until it has time to absorb into the litter and then turn it back, I haven't had a problem since. Nobody knows I have a cat since the odor control of this box is wonderful!!!! That's my favorite part about it. I love this litterbox, even though it's not perfect. I wouldn't go back to the old method of cleaning by hand. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, does what it says!
I've had mine for almost 2 years, and I must say it makes owning several cats much easier and more enjoyable since I detest litter boxes.

Only a few points must be followed to keep it enjoyable.

First and most important, make SURE you use one of the better clumping litters. There is a list in the instructions of what to use and what NOT to use. (you waste less litter, so the cost of the more expensive litters is a wash)
If you use the wrong litter, you'll have a clumpy smelly mess on the rake you'll have to dig off (it's like glue...first hand experience here), and the machine will jam because the clumps will also stick to the base and not allow the rake to do it's job.

Second, use plastic bags from the grocery store to mold around the waste recepticles...it makes removal easier, and the recepticles last a long time. (I still have some of the original 12 that came with the machine 2 years ago)

Third, you may want to keep a piece or carpet or plastic floor runner under the unit to catch the extra litter that will fall around the unit. (I have my unit in a carpet covered wood box because I have a dog who likes litter boxes...especially when there's a cat in it, and I keep a plastic runner at the opening of the box...it works great and I just vaccuum or sweep the runner when nec.)

If you follow those simple rules...you'll love this unit!!

1-0 out of 5 stars poop thrower
I got more flicked in my face in 1 month then in 15 years in the veterinary business.
Emptying the poop containers flicks sand and poop in you face and mouth. Also, litter rake would clump and youhad to clean it by hand. The plastic must have been poop bonding material because you could never get it clean. After 2 weeks , it started throwing poop clumps acrosss the floor.

Somehow the rake got stuck and preassure woud build and thwack! Poop and urine would fly.

don't waste your money

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Designed
I read all the reviews saying this thing sucked, and I thought, Well I'm an engineer, I can handle it but I was Wrong. I even got the older model LM500 hoping that it would work, but it didn't.
In the automatic rake thing, there are several plastic parts put, not glued or secured together. The first couple of times the rake went offline (because of excessively large dump - this happened at least 4-5 times per day despite filling litter to lower than the mark and using premium litter etc), the little plastic parts would pop out and the rake would go offtrack. Once this started happening, the plastic pieces would pop off every time. I tried glueing it, rubberbands, etc. Nothing worked.
I feel really stupid for having read all the reviews and still buying it. Look at the content of the reviews. People describe intimately what is wrong with the product (rake broken, off track, etc) and how they tried to fix it. This should tell you how involved the owner got to try and get it to work. For me this meant getting cat piss all over myself, litter in my eyes, and messing with it everyday until the day, only three weeks after I got it, when it refused to work whatsoever.
Now I have this gigantic plastic piece of cat piss smelling garbage sitting around that I have to repackage and mail back. This is just not worth it. My brother has one, and it works, but it's just luck of the draw whether you get it to work or not. But judging from all the negative reviews, odds are against you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
I have owned three of these things. None of them worked. The first one died after three months. The second one worked for six months and died; after waiting several months for their warranty people to get back to me, they finally replaced it. The third one never worked. I tried several times to get a hold of their warranty department, but they never responded to me. I finally threw it away. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good rice for average rice eaters
We eat rice often. We've had a Faberware cooker for years that finaly died. Wouldn't get another as it cooked the rice unevenly with 'burned spots'. The Zojirushi costs lots more, but is well worth it. This unit cooks all of the rice perfectly every time. We like the size, it delivers 2 to 5 cups of cooked rice, and it delivers the same high quality rice for any batch size.

I wish we could leave it pluged in, but there is no on/off switch. The overall quality seams very good, what you would expect from a [price] machine.

If you eat rice frequently, and enjoy high quality food, this is an excellent machine and is well worth the cash.

5-0 out of 5 stars You won't know how you ever cooked rice without it!
For years I've wished that I could cook "perfect rice". This little "Zo" has made it possible for me to prepare perfect Sushi-style rice (sumptuously sticky and moist) as well as the perfect cafeteria-style rice (no two grains stick together, and the rice is firm, almost al dente). And the absolute best feature is the impossibly non-stick surface of the cooking pot. Every grain of rice falls out of the pot! Cleaning my previous rice cooker was so repulsive and difficult that I soon stopped using it. You can use a damp paper towel and clear water to clean this Zo!!

The recipe is simple -- measure rice, rinse, add water, soak, press the button, let it steam for 15 minutes after the cook cycle has finished, then stir to release the trapped excess steam. PERFECT! The Zojirushi will keep your rice warm for hours, but who can wait that long to eat it? Not me!

If you want to avoid the very tiny bit of browned rice on the bottom, the secret seems to be rinsing the rice for a ridiculous amount of time, at least 5 full minutes.

I heartily recommend this item.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rice Without Pain
I purchased this unit for a rice-eating roommate after having to scrape the results of a bad attempt from the bottom of a pan. She had a decent system, but not decent enough to get a truly consistent result. I thought this would be a "use it until the charm wore off" appliance (to be placed next to the ice cream maker).

It felt wonderful to be wrong. We enjoy perfect rice at least twice a week...more if we have some leftovers and need a starch. She's made just about every type of rice (including wild rices and pilafs).

Clean-up of the rice container is a no-stick snap...but there are nooks and crannies around the rim/seal of the top.

My roommate just interjected when asked for her comment, "What more could you want - PERFECT RICE".

Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Makes very good rice
I had a problem with delivery where the first unit arrived with a bashed in product box, and the second arrived without even being double boxed. However, I'm happy with the product, and it makes good rice, and the keep warm function works well too.

2-0 out of 5 stars I expected something easier to use/ = to clean
The included "Operating Instructions" are a joke and practically useless.
It does cook absolutely perfect rice,
BUT cleaning is a pain:

1) The inner pan has a rolled rim which catches and retains water when washing it. Don't put the pan back in the cooker unless you are sure that there is no trapped water left in the rim for dripping into the main body and onto the cooking plate.
2) One needs to also clean the dew collector and the steam vent apart from wiping down the inner main body rim from the liquid that does not reach the dew collector. Instructions tell to not remove the reverse stopper valve when cleaning the vent assembly: I did not intend to remove this stopper valve - it just fell out under a gentle stream of warm water from my faucet...Don't loose it - down the drain!
3) The stationary lid needs wiping + cleaning ASAP, otherwise one collects additional grime [See 4)].
4) Be aware that the area between the steam vent + the slots in the lid does trap really nasty stuff you can't see nor reach easily when cleaning. Pay attention to these hard to reach nooks and crannies....
5) It's easy to miss the moment when the unit switches to the "keep warm" feature, - the click is barely audible, unless you stand next to it. As the recommended 15 minutes of steaming are essential for a good result, it is disappointing that you need to keep watching the unit visually for light changes. Am I asking for too much if I'd prefer a louder click or even a ring?

Saving grace: It does produce the most delicious and perfect rice.
My next rice cooker will again be a "simple" version with a glass lid + less extra parts to clean. ... Read more

This counter-high refrigerator is the perfect size for use in an efficiency kitchen or as a second fridge in a TV/entertainment room. It stands 33-1/2 inches tall and is 18-5/8 inches wide and 19-7/8 inches deep, offering just over 3-1/2 cubic feet of cold storage space. Three adjustable wire shelves in the main compartment and three door shelves offer ample room for soda, beer, and snacks, and a crisper below the bottom shelf keeps fruits and vegetables fresh. A freezer compartment runs across the top of the shelves to hold frozen meals or ice cubes in the included tray. The thermostat operates via a dial control, making it easy to adjust the temperature to your preference.

This refrigerator has a contemporary-looking coated stainless-steel door that is resistant to fingerprints, and a textured black finish on the sides that wipes down easily. The door hinge is reversible and can be adjusted to swing out in whichever direction is more convenient. Two leveling legs ensure that the refrigerator is stable even when resting on a slightly sloped floor. 5-0 out of 5 stars i like it
this is the fridge i had when i went away to college, it's the largest one that most dorms will allow and it can hold more food than you should really need it to. gallon jugs fit well and it keeps stuff cold. the freezer is very good at making ice and freezing stuff. so long as you keep the thing clean you will have no problems.

and when it's not in a dorm room, you can use it outdoors at a bbq (much better than a cooler). ... Read more

I absolutely love my KitchenAid mixer.I like to bake and always use my mixer.I use it to mix cake batters and knead dough.Cakes come out perfect every time. The mixer is a necessity for every baker's kitchen. It is a durable product and will last a lifetime. The mixer is well built and well designed.Cleanup is easy too.Just remove the bowl and beater and wash by hand or in the dishwasher. The mixer comes with one bowl, kneading hook, flat paddle beater and whisk-type beater. There are also many accessories available for the KitchenAid mixers.

I recommend the KitchenAid mixer for every kitchen. The more you use it, the more you will love it.

I have owned my mixer for serveral years. How I raised my five boys without it is still a question. I love the fact that I can walk away while it is mixing when recipes call for long periods of beating.I also love the durabilily of its moter. We live in hurricane country and my husband knows that if we have to leave in a hurry "turbo tillie" gets a frount seat pass.Cannot live without it.<br /> Jan<br /> Surfside Beach <br /> Texas

I love this mixer! We got it as a wedding present and I have just gotten around to using it after 5 months.I was real scared at first because I have used hand mixers before and stuff goes everywhere...but this one is awesome! I can't wait to make Christmas cookies!!!I love it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars So much fun to use!
I have always wanted a KitchenAid Stand Mixer, but always believed it was meant to be a wedding gift.I was so excited to get it as a wedding gift from my mother-in-law.I had to use it immediately!

I've used it to make a couple of cakes and it was so much easier than the old way using my hand mixer. It was quick and easy cleanup and fun to use.Plus, the cakes tasted awesome!

I also used it to mix hamburger meat with bread crumbs and egg.It was a lot easier than doing it by hand--not as much of the messy egg on my hands.

It was the best wedding gift I got.My husband didn't understand why, but it is awesome!I love it.

I recommend getting another bowl and lids.I do a lot of cookie baking and it is nice not to have to transfer bowls when starting a new batch.

5-0 out of 5 stars you'll never put it away!
I received the KitchenAid Ultra power Stand mixer for a recent wedding present and already find myself using it everyday. I have just returned from three years in West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer and the preservatives in American foods were bothering both my husband and me. I now use the KitchenAid mixer for everything from wheat bread to mashed potatoes and stiff-but-not dry egg whites. It lives on the countertop. The only problem is that it is difficult to add flour while the beater is down--not much room. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This rice cooker cooks up to 5-1/2 cups (enough to feed five to ten people or more) of a variety of rices--white, sweet, porridge, and mixed--for accompanying stir-fries, stuffing peppers, or rolling sushi. The LCD screen is easy to read and the push-button controls are simple to program once you’ve mastered them. After loading your rice and water into the inner pan and choosing the type of rice you are making from the menu, the microcomputerized "Fuzzy logic" temperature control system calculates the exact cooking time (usually between 45 and 70 minutes) and programs it for you. The Fuzzy microchip combined with the unit’s spherical heating system, which cooks on all sides of the inner pan, ensure perfect rice every time without burning or overcooking. You can also set the timer manually in 30-minute increments for cooking times of up to 13 hours. When cooking is complete, the cooker beeps eight times and automatically shifts into a Keep Warm mode, which keeps rice warm for up to 12 hours after cooking is complete. An Extended Keep Warm function warms rice for up to 8 hours at a lower temperature and reduces the chance of rice drying out or becoming discolored or odorous. If rice is still not eaten by then, there is another opportunity to give it a warmup of between 5 and 15 minutes using the Reheat key.

The inner pan has a nonstick coating for easy cleaning and the lid’s stainless-steel underside also wipes clean much effort. The rice cooker has a plastic handle for transporting it from cabinet to counter and a retractable cord for easy storage. This appliance comes with a spatula and spatula holder and is covered by a limited 1-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Bought 2 in last 2 months
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I've purchased 2 in the last 2 months and they both died - I don't know how it happened but water got in the LCD display and fried it. Makes great rice but at this rate, I'd spend $1,500 a year on rice cooking. Forget it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Miracles in Technology - Perfect Rice
I purchased this machine from a local cooking supply shop, after doing some online research. The person who sold it to me told me that it was useful for little more than making really good rice. As I found out from research - that is simply not true. 'The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook' by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann (ISBN 1-55832-202-7) gives you excellent recipes that are wonderfullly suited to this device. It's the manual you wish you would have gotten with this device.

5-0 out of 5 stars Luxury "Sushi" rice cooker smarter than some people!
Having live in Hawaii for several years -where excellent rice is the norm (even at McDonalds)- I feel confident that most finicky rice lovers will be pleased with this cooker. If your favorite rice is dry, instant, or like Uncle B's- don't get it- mainly because this cooker excels at creating moist somewhat sticky rice that can be scooped like ice-cream (in fact- in Hawaii- they will ask if you want "two scoops rice"--but then again they love Spam (ugh!))

Pros: Excellent rice just right for two. No burnt rice on the bottom. Stay warm feature is great. Easy to use once you figure out the manual. Fun good looking high-tech gadget! Makes other visiting cooks really jealous. Well made (makes other rice cookers look like pathetic pieces of low end junk!). Makes porridge- which I have yet to try. Has a limited countdown timer. A cross-cultural and intellectual experience too.

Cons: Rather large and bulky. Hard to figure out how to work it, since the manual was probably translated poorly form Japanese and refers to 2 models. My DVD player is far easier to "figure-out" and I have an IQ of 166! Rather small to cook other veges with the rice since it is not only small, but they warn you not to cook anything but rice--I guess it freaks out the fuzzy logic. The manual is rather Obsessive-compulsive and claims that you should treat the inner bowl with tender loving care- don't even wash your rice in it, for it may scratch it! I prefer to live dangerously and not only clean my rice in it, but I sometimes sin and add non-rice objects (like carrots).

Conclusion: High Tech Excellent "Sushi-type" rice maker- but rather pricey and limited to rice. Definitely NOT for rice pilaf. Obtuse manual.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really, really good rice.
I've made rice regularly for many years, using a steamer or using the stove. I thought I knew what well-cooked rice was. But when I eventually bought this machine, I learned what I had been missing. We are talking about wonderful texture and flavor. Yum.

The machine is very simple to operate (basically you push one button), and it'll keep your rice warm for many hours with no change in the texture, which seems remarkable to me. You can just leave it on, almost indefinitely, rather than putting your rice away and reheating it later. This is surprisingly convenient if you eat rice more than once a day.

However, you have to rinse the rice quite well or it will come out sticky. In addition, the machine doesn't come with instructions for brown rice, so I'm still figuring out the right method for that.

Also, the controls are confusing and hard to use -- an amazing achievement for such a simple machine. I could not make it any more confusing if I tried!!

My Taiwanese friend tells me that in most of her friends' households there, a machine like this is in use all day, every day. It's that useful -- assuming you eat rice all the time.

However, if you eat rice only occasionally, this machine is overkill. For a small fraction of the price you can get a Black & Decker Handy Steamer, which makes good rice (though not as good as this) and is just as easy to use and more versatile. So do you really, honestly, want a single-purpose rice machine, considering the cost and the space to store it? If you really do, this one's a nice choice. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Beginning in the 1930s, two successive generations of busy cooks used pressure cookers to prepare family meals. The next generation, with memories of valves dancing and hissing on stovetops, snubbed pressure cookers. Now pressure cookers have come back, those old valves replaced by modern versions that ensure safety while delivering the speed, ease, and nutritional benefits of pressure cooking.

This heavyweight, stainless-steel beauty is a fine example of contemporary engineering and style. Its mirror finish gleams, and its black handles--including a loop handle for two-handed lifting--stay cool. Pressure-cooking traps steam to heat foods at temperatures higher than boiling. An aluminum disk in the base, sandwiched by stainless steel, speeds the process even more through fast heat conductivity. It's safe on electric, gas, ceramic, and induction stovetops. Little water is required, so nutrients, flavor, and color are not boiled away. Vegetables emerge vibrantly colored from the steamer insert. Stews, soups, beans--even meat loaf, pork chops, and desserts such as bread pudding--come out tasty and nutritious. (A booklet containing dozens of recipes is included.) You can brown meats in the pot before the lid is locked on, or use the pot without the lid. The stem of the operating valve shows high and low pressure so you can adjust heat for different foods. After cooking, the pressure can be reduced slowly (just let the cooker sit for a while), normally (press the pressure indicator), or quickly (run tepid water on the lid's rim).

Safety measures abound: the lid twists onto the pot; a rubber gasket ensures a tight seal. A vent releases steam if pressure builds too high, as does a valve that also locks the lid when any pressure whatsoever is inside the cooker. Cleanup is a bit involved: hand wash the pot, gasket, and lid with a mild detergent, then lightly oil the gasket. Normally the valve is self-cleaning, but if food passes through it, disassembly is required. Minor cleaning inconvenience, though, should not overshadow the major convenience of pressure cooking. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best presure cooker I have ever used!
I purchased the Kuhn Rikon 7-Liter Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker because I wanted to cook the meals my father (Hungarian) had made whilst I was a child. Namely, goulash... And gee, is this a lovely item! Sure, you need to regulate the heat, so did he (and his grandma). This one is _so_ much easier though....

With this model you don't have the steaming and the hissing, moisture leaving your dinner. This baby is so _very_ quiet.. I have made so many meals with this cooker, and my wife loves it. Regulating the temerature is easy, the two bars (high and low pressure) are so very easy to read. Just adjust the heat.

I had an electric stove top first, it was harder to use with a pressure cooker. Now I have gas, and easy easy....

Of course, I needed to cook more than goulash...Great value, more than yes! Quick cooking, good cooking. Do yourself a favour, this is a great buy...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great pressure cooker!
I bought the Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker after the New York Times called it 'the Mercedes Benz among pressure cookers'. And even though I haven't tried any other cookers (so I can't compare) I am totally happy with it. I'm actually spoiled, I got two of these! I use them all the time! I usually make recipes out of the cookbooks 'Great Vegetarian Cooking Under Pressure' and 'Complete Vegetarian Kitchen'. Both books are by Lorna Sass. She is an expert on pressure cooking and gives a lot of nice helpful pressure cooking recipes, tips and charts in these books.

If you want to buy a flame tamer for your cooker (highly recommended), please get the Kuhn Rikon one! It's a bit expensive, but the two other ones I tried ended up in the trash can.

I also recommend buying an 'Ohsawa Pot'. When you make rice straight in a pressure cooker it is very sticky and can get stuck to the bottom. With this pot (which you place in the pressure cooker), you get absolutely delicious rice (especially brown and wild rice turn out great!).

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this pressure cooker
It is every bit as good as they say it is. It's very easy to use. No jiggle, no hissing, just a little sound to let you know the pressure is coming up. Just two little red lines that are easy to see. 1st. line is for low pressure, 2nd. line is for high pressure. Not only does it work like a dream, it looks like one too. If all you have every owned is a jiggle pressure cooker, please give this one a try. I'm sure you will be impressed with this 2nd generation pc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I recently purchased this pressure cooker and have found it to be extremely easy to use. I have never used a pressure cooker before. You will love this one. The size is perfect for most recipes. The instructions are clear and the book includes good recipes to get started. I am very impressed with the quality of this product and I am equally impressed with how quickly I was able to make delicious dinners. So far I have made pot roast, spaghetti sauce, turkey breast, risotto and chicken soup. Each recipe was easy to make--one would think I was cooking all day.
You will enjoy this pressure cooker! I ordered this on a Wednesday from Amazon and received it on Friday--what superb service!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the investment
This is the second pressure cooker that I've owned and I am extremely pleased with it's performance. If you have not used one in the past, it is well worth the investment of money and time to learn how to use it. I did a lot of searching before deciding on this model, mostly due to the inordinate number of positive reviews. I was not dissapointed. You can make wonderful meals quickly, easily, and for less money that with conventional cookware. The last cooker I had was an older style with a jiggle top. It worked, but was not convenient to use, so I did not use it very often. The Kuhn Rikon is so easy to use that I've been using is several times per week and plan most of my menus around the pressure cooker. I am already thinking about buying others in different sizes. I find the 7 liter a good size for most uses. It will easily accomodate soups and stock but is not too big to use for smaller meals. For the few people that have not had good experiences with pressure cookers, I urge them to try again. It is not hard to master and the rewards are well worth it. The Kuhn Rikon is easy to use, safe, and will quickly become the primary pot in your kitchen. If you are new to pressure cooking, it is worthwhile to buy a pressure cooker cookbook at the same time. I liked Pressure Cooking for Dummies by Tom Calamita. ... Read more

Bringing a touch of the British Isles to the American tabletop, Lenox's Tartan dinnerware integrates a tri-colored plaid ribbon into its festive holiday pattern. The ivory background of this fine china provides a beautiful backdrop to its colorful wreath of seasonal fruits, berries, holly, nuts, and ribbon. This intertwined detail surrounds each plate's perimeter in broad range of reds, greens, golds, browns, and blues. Adding a touch of elegance and enabling the set to serve formal meals, a 24-carat, gold band surrounds the plate's outermost edge.

Comprising six 10-3/4-inch dinner plates and six 8-inch salad or dessert plates, the twelve-piece collection covers the basics for serving a first holiday feast. Glossy surfaces not only add to the dinnerware's aesthetic but also provide additional strength. Although dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended to preserve the gold detail. When not in use, the included chrome caddy enables convenient and compact storage. This two-tiered gadget houses the dinner plates on its bottom rack and the salad plates just above. Made in the United States, this collection is covered by Lenox's lifetime replacement policy. -- Amy Arnold

5-0 out of 5 stars The best waffle maker on the market!
I've owned three or four waffle makers and none of them compare to the quality of this gem from Cuisinart. If you're picky about waffles--and why shouldn't you be?--then spend a little extra on this model and get effortless results. Here's what makes this a GREAT wafflemaker:

1) An accurate thermostat--no surprises when you open the lid
2) A consistent heating surface--avoid hot spots or undercooked waffles
3) A variable timer--essential if you have more than one waffle color preference in the family
4) Smart design--it stores on its side, taking up a LOT less space in your cupboard
5) Easy to clean exterior--cleans up with a damp paper towel
6) Dependable non-stick finish--unlike cheap waffle makers, the nonstick finish on this model does not wear out
7) Cool-touch lid--never burn your hand on a waffle maker again

I am genuinely thrilled with my Cuisinart waffle maker and I believe it's an absolute bargain. If you're used to spending big bucks on store-bought waffles--or if you have a cheap, junky waffle maker at home--treat yourself to this nice little unit. It's a low-cost luxury. Plus, you'll have a fun time making waffles (and impressing your family and friends!). Bon appetit!

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep Looking!
I bought this iron in April of 2003 and it broke yesterday (June 2004). I was in the middle of eating breakfast and the light just turned off and the iron won't work anymore. I was so mad that I got a hammer out of the closet and hit the machine a few times. DON'T BUY THIS WAFFLE MAKER! The price is nice and I did enjoy it - but I don't intend on buying a waffle maker every year. It was so disappointing and I'm very surprised that a cuisinart product would quit so soon after I bought it. I'm going to buy a higher quality machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars After two years, still making perfect waffles
I'm not sure what the others who wrote here are doing wrong. All you have to do is follow the directions. Use a half-cup measuring cup and pour in just that amount. You do not need to spread out the batter. Just close the lid. As for sticking, even nonstick surfaces need a little mist of oil every once in awhile. I give mine an EXTREMELY light spray maybe once every third time I pull it out to use it. It makes wonderful waffles and I never have problems with sticking. And it wipes clean, when cool, with a paper towel, if necessary. I use mine at least twice a week and have had it for two years. Very true-- the outside gets hot and will burn you, so it may not be the best choice if your young kids are actually helping you make waffles. My 4-year-old son sits on the counter next to it, though, and knows not to touch it.

My only gripe about the wafflemaker is that the shape isn't conducive to freezing them and popping them into the toaster. You can pull them into little triangles, but I wish I'd picked something that makes a smaller waffle.

Highly recommended-- especially for the price. The indicator light and the five browning settings take the guesswork out for you. No more opening the lid to check the waffle.

5-0 out of 5 stars This product works very well
I just can't believe why some people actualy rated this product with one star. It works very well, it doesn't stick AT ALL. Believe me, this is the good waffle maker. I will use this product forever.

1-0 out of 5 stars Best $30 product thrown down the garbage chute, ever!
This product is by far the worst purchase in my life. I'll admit, I didn't do any research on waffle irons but how can you not trust a name as widespread as Cuisinart?

Easy...as a very competent chef, with years of experience in professional and personal capacity, I consider myself capable of making waffles. In fact, I've MacGyver'd waffles in a bind on a camping trip with tent rods! No Joke! But this product makes everything about waffle making awful. Most notably:
1. Non-stick my foot. If you've ever wanted all your waffles sliced down the middle across their plane, this is the one for you.
2. Easy cleanup my other foot. Break out your chisel and toothbrush, because you'll need them.
3. Thrown down 20 stories of garbage chute, this produces the most wonderful acoustical symphony $30 can buy. The brushed stainless surface perfectly matched and resonated with the rusty, raw clanginess of sheet metal. Musical indeed.

Do yourself a favor and just ignite $30 on your own. Don't go through the hassle of purchasing this product. ... Read more
