Equipped with a UV germicidal light to help kill airborne microorganisms and a three-speed fan to continuously circulate air through two filters, this portable air purifier removes smoke, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, molds, bacteria, viruses, and odors. Helpful for asthmatics, allergy sufferers, and cold/flu patients, the purifier contains a true HEPA filter that is at least 99.97 percent effective at trapping tiny particles; a prefilter reduces odors. A digital readout displays air quality (good, fair, or poor), and the fan can be set to automatically adjust speed according to air-quality needs. Digital indicators show when filters need replacing. The purifier measures 19-1/2 by 14 by 8-1/4 inches and is recommended for rooms up to 350 square feet. Filter replacement is simple: open front, remove prefilter and/or HEPA filter, position new filter(s), and close. The purifier carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Quiter than Blueair
I have severe asthma and have been VERY pleased with the 04163 Hamilton Beach Air Purifier. I'm not sure what planet the negative reveiwers are from but I investigated all the options regardless of price. I went by Sears and looked at the Kenmore. The reviewer who liked it must work for Sears because it isn't even in the same ballpark as the Hamilton Beach. I briefly bought and returned a BlueAir which cost twice as much and is supposed to be the quietest. Instead it has an irritating high pitched whine that oscillates and would be better utilized as a torture device. The Hamilton Beach, on the other hand, is not only quiet, but the white noise it makes is actually soporific. I prefer to sleep with it on and it runs 24/7. I use to have a constant problem with mold in my master bathroom, but the Ultraviolet light on the Hamilton Beach has kept it from returning. The other day I chased my golden retriever into the bedroom with ear cleaner and to my surprise the automatic fan smelled it, and dealt with it, turning the fan on automatically to a higher setting briefly. I couldn't even smell it myself. To describe it's air cleaing capability, I will just end by saying this, the reason I am on this site is I am getting ready to buy a second Hamilton Beach for my office.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, For Its Price and Intended Purpose
Haven't had it for very long, just a couple of months, but I like it. I had a Honeywell room unit that was okay, but I had no idea how well it was working. With the HB, the air sensor gives you some idea of how well it's working. When first hooked up, the HB showed that the Honeywell was doing a good job of cleaning. At first, I thought maybe I should have just stayed with the Honeywell. I had initially stayed away from using the UV light, after reading that it didn't do anything. Wrong. When I finally switched on the UV light, a lot of my nighttime nasal congestion disappeared. That feature, plus the sensor, makes this model a 4- rather than 3-star product. (Keep in mind tthat this is a one-room unit and not intended for people with severe allergies.)

Seems to have a small but noticeable effect on keeping dust down.

Whisper Quiet ... isn't. But it's no louder than the Honeywell. I also selected Super Saver shipping, saved some money, and got it in five business days. If this unit lasts another year without problems, I'll buy another for another room in my house.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great but noisy
I have been using this product for a year now with great results. It really does seem to clean the air and has improved my allergies. The filters are extremely easy to replace when necessary. My only complaint is that it is noisy, too noisy for me to use when I am sleeping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Work great
My room used to be very dusty but since I purchased this product, the room is much cleaner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed
It has been 3 months since I received the air purifier, one word, WOW.

For over 3 years, I have suffered from postnasal drip and congestion every morning due to minor dust allergies. I have noticed this has progressively gotten worse over this period. In an effort to remedy this situation, I was more diligent in dusting and cleaning my apartment and I visited my doctor a few times over the past few years. I was prescribed allergy pills and steroids in an effort to cure me, nothing worked.

I finally decided to buy an air purifier as general means of breathing cleaner air. I selected this one based on the reviews and comments others reported and was not disappointed. Literally, the first night I used the purifier, it cured my postnasal drip problem. The morning after, my nasal passage was clear and dry. I could breathe!!! Now every night before bed, I turn on my purifier and every morning now, I wake up clear and congestion free. I have even noticed when I am away from my purifier/apartment, the congestion returns.

Now to review the product itself... I must say the gadget-lover in me, opted for the UV light and digital readout of this particular model. Honestly, I probably could have done without the UV light and digital readout. There have been nights where I forgot to turn on the UV light and still woke up fine, perhaps it may be more effective in the winter when there are more germs flying around. The only semi-annoying thing is the device does not remember the UV setting when you turn it off. With the digital readout, I think I could have done without it. As I said, I love gadgets and features like this. However, it does work though. For example, when I open my window, it quickly determines the air is much dirtier and reacts accordingly. How smart!!!

People have noted that the purifier is very noisy. I think this is a purely subjective matter. I live in NYC on a ninth floor apartment off the East River on the FDR Drive. I am accustom to a certain amount of noise. I am subject to varying levels of car and wind noise 24/7. Concerning the purifier, I typically run it at low speed each night (I only run it at night). It is positioned at the foot of my bed. IMHO, using the lowest speed is no noisier than running an air conditioner at low speed. After a couple nights, it became white noise and is hardly noticeable to me now.

As far as size goes, I was a bit surprised how large it is but considering the size of the HEPA filter. It is not that bad in comparison. I am sure the larger size helps in better coverage of a large sized room.

The only negative I could come up with is the price (I paid about $140) but, given my success with the purifier, I cannot really claim this as a real fault. After 3 months, I am still on the original HEPA filter. The carbon filter I actually rinsed off the dust with some running water a couple times. It is a bit of a messy process but seems effective. I recently ran the built-in test on the filters and it passed. The replacement HEPA filter is a bit pricey; I think it should cost a lot less. They run about $40 to $50 each while the replacement carbon filters run three for $10.

Overall, I am very, very, very happy with my purchase. The money I paid was worth it. I can breathe!!! However, if can settle for the smaller size and/or without the digital readout, just get a lower-end model which sells for much less. The most important feature is the HEPA filter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent night
We live in Hawaii and like many people here suffer terribly from allergies, especially when the Kona winds are blowing from the big island, bringing the dreaded "vog" (volcano smog) with them. On top of that, my husband is allergic to our two beloved cats (the cats and I decided to keep him anyway) and I was allergic to his subsequent noisy snoring, so I purchased this item. I must admit I thought it might wind up just being another gadget lying around the house, but I am very pleased to report that it is an extremely useful device that has made our sleep significantly more peaceful and restful. We keep it on automatic most of the time; it's a tad noisy at night if it kicks into high gear, so occasionally we switch it onto whisper quiet before we sleep. I'm so glad we bought it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who suffers from allergies or has pets that they don't want to banish from the house. I also like the streamlined design of the Hamilton Beach model, the others looked too heavy and obtrusive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great purifier for the price!
I recently purchased this unit with hopes of reducing dust and other particulates in my bedroom. For reference, I live in Manhattan where the air quality is sometimes not the greatest.

Summary: Great unit for the price. Super ergonomics and clear displays make this unit a winner!

Positive aspects

1. Inexpensive price. Good value for the buck compared with many other filters on the market.

2. Good ergonomics. I actually liked the fact that you can monitor filter lifespan and air quality on a clear to read LCD. You can also see if the anti-germ UV bulb is working by seeing a glow out of a darkly tinted (for safety!) window on top.

3. Easy to set up! I had this puppy up and running in under 10 minutes. Pretty foolproof installation makes this one a keeper.

4. Great filtering technology. The unit can automatically adjust to the air quality in your room. Very nice! Also, I noticed a change in the air quality within 1 hour of operation.

5. Small form factor. After all, no one wants a huge unit in their bedroom!

Some minor complaints:

1. Power cord. I wish the power cord were a bit longer so that I could have greater placement flexability. Not a big deal.

2. UV bulb. Replacing the UV germicidal bulb is tad bit expensive. Again, not a big deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great, but doesn't seem to last
This air cleaner has to be one of the coolest air cleaners out there. So far, I have not seen any in this price range that automatically adjust to the air quality. I like that it comes with a guage to let me know when I need to change the hepa filter. The gauge and a cleaner for the air sensor each have a special storage spot, so they don't get lost.

The one I have now is the second one I have bought, but the third one that I have had.

The first one worked for about 9 months, then the motor started to squeak. I called Hamilton Beach, and they asked me to send it in for warranty service. I got a brand new one back. I was about to have to change the filter in mine, so it worked out kinda nice. The new unit lasted about a year, then the motor just stopped. It was out of warranty by this point, so I went out and bought another.

Now I have had my third unit for about 6 months, and the motor died again, so I am going to have to call Hamilton Beach again, and probably ship it out.

I would think the motors should outlast the HEPA filter, but it hasn't been the case. I am a smoker, so it cycles from low to high quite often, but I wouldn't think that should be a problem.

When this filter works, it works great.... It helps keep my place from stinking from the smoke, and helps my allergies. The customer service has been great so far too. I just wish the unit would last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I bought this machine to help me with my allergies. It has worked tremendously and I highly recommend it. Running the purifier in the bedroom overnight has allowed me to sleep peacefully. The purifier is also excellent in the kitchen at removing any odors from cooking.
The machine is louder than I would like. On the lowest setting it can still be heard but is tolerable, and after a while you don't notice it. On the highest setting the noise is deafening and forces me to turn it to a lower setting. However, on the highest setting it is very fast and effective at cleaning the air in an entire room.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does it all
This air filter is designed amazingly well. It can even be placed against a wall. The air enters through the front passing through a carbon and hepa filter, then the air exits through the top on its way back out into the room. Before the air exits, it passes by an ultraviolet light which kills mold spores, bacteria & viruses (a must for the au courant hypochondriac). It is very quiet & has a sensor which automatically & temporarily increases the fan speed to clean the excess pollution from the room. It even has a digital display to let you know it's working. This air purifier has everything you need and all for under $150. After owning it for two weeks, I bought a second one. If you have allergies (and even if you don't), buy one and your nose and lungs will most definitely thank you. ... Read more

With a larger than average surface area and powerful heat transfer system, Delonghi’s Magnum radiator quickly and quietly fills an entire room with heat. Its automatic timer control has 96 different settings, and includes a room monitoring thermostat, so you can set the unit to your desired temperature and know that you’ll stay warm. Horizontal thermal slots keep the heat circulating. High efficiency diathermic oil is permanently sealed and never needs refilling. The Magnum’s clean, Euro design is compact and safe, with no sharp edges, and a double insulated exterior. It’s movable, too: four corner wheels, and a handle that stays cool while the unit is operating, let you easily position the Magnum anywhere you need the heat. Additional safety features include thermal cut off to shut off the radiator once the desired temperature is reached, and anti-frost protection to keep the unit heated to at least 35 degrees F. Amazon.com Review

The Soleus Air MS-20A ceramic wall heater is a modern, electric version of the old-fashioned freestanding gas heaters that used ceramic bricks to hold and radiate heat. The MS-20A uses less ceramic material to achieve greater heat production than those dinosaurs did, and it has a few other improvements, too. First, the heater's PTC ceramic element --PTC stands for positive temperature coefficient-- allows for more rapid heat transfer to the desired temperature setting. There's also a built-in fan and a 7-1/2-hour timer. And because the MS-20A is electrical, there's no dangerous open flame burning off the oxygen in the room. Oh, and the best part--remote control. Settings on the MS-20A can be adjusted without ever getting up from bed or from the comfy chair.

The MS-20A wall heater is made of sturdy, heat-resistant off-white plastic with black and gray accents. It's designed to mount on a wall, so the shape is obligingly oblong, and it's only 7 inches deep so as not to stick out too much into the room. A touch-pad control panel with light-up indicators offers settings for Off, Fan, Low (750 watts), or High (1300 watts), and a range of timer options. The timer can be set in configurations of 1/2, 1, 2, or 4 hours; they can all be selected to total 7-1/2 hours if desired. The small remote is very simple, with only three buttons: Select, Timer, and On/Off.

Always unplug heater before cleaning; use a soft cloth, dry or only slightly moistened, and towel or allow to air dry afterward. Do not allow water to drip on or enter fan housing. Keep heater away from combustible substances such as paint thinner, etc., and do not cover it while it is in use. The 120-volt Soleus Air MS-20A ceramic heater measures 25 by 9-1/2 by 7 inches, with a 6-foot power cord. The remote takes two AAA batteries (not included). Detailed mounting, care, and caution instructions are included. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great product for a great price
I live in an old house with no central air & heat, so we heat room by room. This heater is perfect and being able to wall mount is a must with kids around. It's very safe and you can mount it high enough that kids can't reach. Have tried other wall mounts, but this one is best by far. Heats a 12x12 room quickly and well (and with door open to that room, knocks the chill off of adjoining one), even on coldest of nights. Timer is very helpful too. The fans blow well, so circulates air very well.

Only product improvement I could recommend is ability to use an air filter in or on it.

Purchased one to try. Will purchase more for other rooms. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Does it seem hot in here or is it just me ?
Let me get the negatives out of the way first;

The day WindChaser decided to design the connection for the body and the head/motor, all their engineers were out playing golf. There are 4 screws that you use to connect the head assembly to the body, screws that don't seem to be metal, and when you set these screws in the holes you can't get at them to tighten them. I tried a stubby Phillips and about 1" above the screws is a plastic shelf that blocks straight down access. I wound up having to use a Phillips screwdriver bit and some pliers.

Secondly when I pulled the WindChaser out of the box the plastic was cheaper and more flimsy that I'd have hoped. However, it's not like I'm going to be playing contact sports with it either so for what it's designed for it works fine.

Positives;

I really do think this heater rocks. On the low setting you can feel heat from 6' or so away. On the high setting you can feel heat 10' or so away. This thing really puts off the heat ! I've tried it several times on high and have to turn it down after a few minutes. And the feel of the heat is wonderful. It feels as if you're in front of a roaring campfire. If you had a tape playing of campfire noise, and this thing in front of you with your eyes closed, you'd swear that it was a real fire. It's soothing and comforting and just wonderful.

The noise.... What noise ?! When you have it in oscillation mode it's freaky, you expect to hear a fan going, but it's seemingly dead quiet as it pans the room. Very cool.

Another thing that has amazed me is that the wire protection frame on the front of the dish...only gets warm. I can't figure it out. Even after it's been on a long time on the low setting I can touch the grate and expect it to be really hot because of the high heat it's emitting and the grate is just warm. This was a pleasant surprise since I have 3 little kids. After the unit has been on for a while I can touch every part of it and nothing is hot ! Which gives me wonderful peace of mind. To burn yourself you'd have to stick your fingers through the grate.

So, in conclusion, I would highly recommend this heater. The silence of it and the feel of the heat coming off the dish is well worth the price of admission.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall a good unit
Overall, this is a good personal heater. It's silent, creates no bright light to blind you, and has excellent warming capacity even at several feet away on the low setting. Only one thing keep it from being great: no tilt control at all. Despite what looks like a tilt control, you can't point the unit up or down even a fraction of an inch. A call to WindChaser tech support indicates this is a "feature," but I disagree. ... Read more

Doing double duty, this heater warms up a chilly basement orenclosed porch and then switches to fan-only mode to cool off a hotbedroom. Blowing fan-forced air, the upright heater makes a noticeabledifference in the air temperature within 30 seconds but is extremelyquiet in its delivery. In addition, its space-saving dimensions (13inches tall by 4-1/2 inches wide) make the heater barely detectable inthe corner of a room.

The heating portion of the unit has two settings--750 or 1,500watts--and an adjustable thermostat to maintain the preferred roomtemperature. Both controls are shielded by a pull-out plastic cover toprevent you from accidentally turning the heater on. Other safetyfeatures include a power light that reminds you when the unit is on anda caution light that indicates overheating, in which case the heaterautomatically shuts off. Other conveniences are an ergonomic recessedslot in the back for carrying the fan heater and a hidden storage areaunderneath the heater for the cord. This WindChaser fan heater iscovered by a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for - this is not so bad...
Despite the reivews of others, I was looking for a cheap way to heat my office, and this has done the trick so far. Yes, this is a cheap - cheap prodcut; all palstic parts, could easily break if you don't pay attention. It does the job. It can heat my 12'x12' office from 57 degrees to 73 degrees in about 1/2 hour. This does not put out high heat - but it does put out good consistant heat. You are getting what you pay for here. For under $25.00 people should expect so much from a product like this. Stay warm!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so hot
Doesn't put out much heat. I have to sit right on top of it. And my dial broke immediately, too. It pushes right beyond the highest setting, in which case I get no heat at all.

1-0 out of 5 stars The machine NEVER turned on.
The machine was advertised as new, but I obviously got used and not working. The fan never blew. The only thing that worked was the Caution light. I'm sending it back and hoping to get a guaranteed working product in return for my money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so hot
Doesn't put out much warmth. I have to have it about 6 inches from my ankles. Never overheats me, but occasionally it overheats itself. The dial immediatly broke so that it can be accidentally turned beyond the last setting, in which case the heater doesn't turn on at all. I'm now looking for a replacement. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Freestanding heaters come in several different varieties; hot-air blowers, natural gas burners, and circulated-oil warmers. Then there are reflective heaters, which use electricity to warm a metal screen that then reflects heat out into the room. The Soleus Air MS-12 reflective heater has a few advantages over other types of heaters; it doesn't burn up oxygen like a natural gas heater, and it doesn't stir up dust as would the blower variety. And it's practically silent, without the ticking and pinging common in some of the other heater types.

The MS-12 reflective heater is made of sturdy, heat-resistant black plastic and matte-finish gray metal; it has a protective steel grill over the reflective honeycomb of metal mesh that radiates the heat. It's compact--only a little over a foot tall--hence the "Personal"; it's just the right size to place near a comfy chair in a chilly room to create a cozy, personal bubble of warmth. If a slightly wider distribution of heat is desired, the MS-12 oscillates from side to side with the turn of a knob. The simple control consists of a knob on the side of the heater that can be set to Off, High (800 watts), Low (400 watts), and Swing (oscillate). There's a tip-over safety switch on the underside of the heater, as well as an automatic shut-off mechanism in case of overheating.

Always unplug heater before cleaning; use a soft cloth, dry or only slightly moistened, and towel or allow to air dry afterward. Do not allow water to drip on or enter fan housing. Place heater 3 feet from flammable fabrics such as curtains or upholstery. Keep heater away from combustible substances such as paint thinner, etc., and do not cover it while it is in use. The 115-volt Soleus Air MS-12 reflective heater measures 14 by 14-1/4 by 6-1/4 inches. Detailed care and caution instructions are included. A handy appliance for all seasons, this WindChaser heater warms a chilly room in winter and cools it down on hot summer nights. The unit also includes optional humidification and oscillates to distribute warm air or improve room circulation. Operated with soft-touch buttons or the handy remote control and regulated by an electronic thermostat, the heater blows cool, warm, or hot air at either 1100 or 1500 watts. The 15-hour timer is convenient, enabling you to shut off the heater after you go to sleep or to work. All the controls are shielded by a transparent hatch to prevent you or a curious child from accidentally turning it on. Adjustable air vents let you control vertical air flow, and an air filter helps freshen up the atmosphere of your home.

WindChaser is especially thorough with safety devices on this model, programming in automatic shut-off after 20 hours, automatic humidifier shut-off after 6 hours, and overheat thermal cutoff protection. There's also a safety tip-over switch that cuts power should the heater get bumped or knocked over. The heater comes with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Bright!
My heater just arrived & I gotta say.....it's making me want to confess to crimes I didn't commit....lol. I can't complain about it's warming qualities because I'm already warm & toasty. Get one if you don't mind the brightness....or buy some shades. I bought this because it's quiet but hope tonight when I try to sleep it won't make me "come to the light Laurie.....come to the light!".

3-0 out of 5 stars Be Sure To Buy Some Sunglasses With It!
It is everything it says but if you have it oscolating in front of you it is like a spotlight! The Halogen reflects off of the parabolic dome and blinds you everytime it faces you. If you like it dark when you watch TV at night this is a very bright night light. If you're just going to put it in the corner and not have it face you it's a great heater. We returned it in spite of all of its other great features.
if you want parablolic try the coil based heaters like Holmes or the Windchaser models. They are not as efficient but they aren't so bright either. ... Read more

This solidly constructed, stylish-looking dehumidifier features a powerful reciprocating compressor and castor wheels, which make it easy to move from room to room. Drying out musty bedrooms, bathrooms, or kitchens doesn't take long with the dehumidifier's ability to extract up to 30 pints of moisture out of the air per day. An indicator warns when its 6-1/2-liter-capacity water tank is full, while automatic overflow protection shuts the device down until the water bucket is emptied. For efficiency, its humidistat sensor automatically maintains desired humidity levels, and for added convenience, its upward dry-air outlet allows for drying clothes. An easy-access carbon filter fits neatly in the back. The unit measures 16-1/2 by 12 by 26-3/4 inches. --Catie Unger ... Read more

This heater/fan from Windchaser pumps out warm or cool air to adjust the temperature of the surrounding atmosphere with speed and efficiency. Compact yet powerful, the unit features two heat settings--750 watts and 1500 watts--as well as a cool fan function. Its large coils heat quickly, and the wide-blade fan disperses the warmth effectively. Best of all, a thermostat function lets you set the fan to cycle on and off in order to maintain a chosen temperature. Though this function is not as precise as digitally programmable heaters, it is effective and lets you control the atmosphere consistently without having to continually monitor the heater. Suitable for desktop use or wall-mounting, the heater has a simple dial controls and cool-touch housing, though the front of the grille will get hot during operation. Indicator lights light up if the power is on or if the overheat protection shut-off has been activated. Measuring approximately 9 by 8 by 5 inches, the fan comes with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more
